[Bug 778898] [NEW] Power Manager Doesn't Show Battery Percentage on Compaq CQ61

2011-05-07 Thread Krishna
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Neither in Natty. Battery percentage is not shown by power manager. It just
shows estimating.
I have attached the screen shot.
Also sometimes the (estimating..) appears twice when clicking on the battery
icon..

I have been experiencing this problem from 10.04 onwards. Only Lucid
version works properly for me...

I have been using this by Forcing the gnome-power-manager in previous versions.
I am not able to downgrade package in natty...

[Bug 421261] Re: xterm background colour used to be black, now white

2011-05-07 Thread Julien Cristau
Figured this one out... Ubuntu's /etc/gdm/Xsession doesn't set
SYSRESOURCES (and USRRESOURCES) before sourcing
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/30x11-common_xresources, so
/etc/X11/Xresources/x11-common is never read.

[Bug 657357] Re: GTK Printing Dialog: Duplex printing on HP inkjets does not work

2011-05-07 Thread jpka
Still not fixed in Ubuntu 11.04 (at least for CLP-300 printer).
The solution is same: (may be helpful for new users)
1. system-config-printer
set up your CLP-300 with default settings.
make sure 600 dpi mode selected.
 close.
2. sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
 add line
deb http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/debian/ lsb3.2 main
contrib main-nonfree
3. sudo apt-get update
4. sudo apt-get install openprinting-splix
5. system-config-printer
 Make and model - Change
select CLP-300 and you'll see two option at right pane, select SpliX.
Now duplex is work.

[Bug 778414] Re: gimp crashes on starting (segfault)

2011-05-07 Thread Daniel Reimer
I found a workaround:

The bug seems to originate from the Oxygen GTK engine and only appears
at the first run of Gimp, some initialization function I think
(user_install_dialog_new ff. in the stack trace).

When I changed the widget style in KDE control center (GTK styles in
Application Appearance) from oxygen-gtk to simple , I could start
Gimp without a crash. After changing back to oxygen-gtk, starting Gimp
doesn't crash anymore.

[Bug 727498] Re: Ping not working in Nettools

2011-05-07 Thread Alfred Want
While command line ping works everywhere, to anywhere by name or
address, the Net tools ping fails on all six computers on the network
and even on 127.0.0.1 local host. I thought it was fine in 10.10 and
10.04 but am now wondering whether I actually used it under either.

[Bug 778968] [NEW] Whole system freezes when scrooling with middle mouse button

2011-05-07 Thread JohnC
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

The problem has occurred many times but does not happen all the time. It seems
to happens when large PDF files are being scrolled through usually with the
middle mouse button (but once using the scroll bar).
The system completely freezes (even the system monitor in the task bar stops
moving.
Keyboard and mouse do nothing and I have to do press the machine button to
reboot the system.
I have recently also experienced problem booting into the system where I end up
with Ubuntu booting, showing the splash screen but then the screen input goes

[Bug 38574] Re: Pb syncing treo 650 on dapper drake

2011-05-07 Thread Paul Martin
I hope this will be helpful. Modifying the instructions as mentioned earlier
for the hard link, I did the following:
as root:
# mknod /dev/m500 c 188 1
# chmod 766 /dev/m500

I was then able to use hotsync easily, since /dev/pilot was otherwise
created and deleted over my hard link. The new link doesn't get deleted.
I am using debian wheezy, but all other symptoms were practically
identical the ones mentioned above.

[Bug 697358] Re: regression in window list applet (wnck-applet) behavior

2011-05-07 Thread lores
Also, changing the size to another value and back to the original is a
tmp fix.

In my case, when the bug is in effect, the Show Desktop icon is as
small as if the panel had the size of 21 px, although it is 24 px.
Changing the size to e. g. 23 px and back corrects this.

[Bug 778997] [NEW] Malformed result expressions shown when working with complex numbers

2011-05-07 Thread Miguel Franco Martínez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

When showing the result of operations (complex numbers), if the real
part and the imaginary part are both positive, i.e. 5+7i, for example,
the result shown is 57i.

Other example: 5+8i + i = 59i, when 5+9i must be shown. When one of both
of the parts are negative, the result is OK. And if the result has two
or more digits, the result is OK too...

I think something strange is happening when trying to print the result

[Bug 779008] [NEW] The Eject CD dialog box should display an OK button instead of Cancel

2011-05-07 Thread Abhinav Upadhyay
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Just a small wishlist. The CD/DVD Creator shows a message box after
burning the disk that it could not eject the disk, so I should eject it
manually in order to continue the operation. But this message box shows
only a Cancel button, which doesn't give the right feeling, I mean it
feels like clicking Cancel might cancel the whole operation.

I suggest to replace the Cancel button with an OK button or at least an
OK Cancel one.

See the screenshot.

[Bug 767095] Re: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet for qt softwares (e.g. Skype)

2011-05-07 Thread Sebastian Bugiu
I noticed something interesting: sometimes the system boots up very fast
(most of the times) and sometimes it takes a while (not just a little
longer but a lot longer). When the system boots fast I get 1 px icons
and when it takes its time it shows the icons correctly (both Skype and
Vlc). From what I understand it's the metapackage ureadahead that does
this fluctuations in the time it takes to boot, and maybe it influences
the order in which things are loaded, thus leading to the gnome-panel
showing the icons correctly for that session.

Thanks for your help to make Ubuntu better by reporting this bug.

While the language is English and the formats setting German, the

Quite contary to how it should be, in other words. :(

For some people, like me, the dialog that is opened by Evolution on

option.

I agree with geoffrey about the need of a better integration of this
option in Unity.

sth. to my panel in order to work around the bug (e. g. change it's size

So I think your behaviour could very well be caused by 3rd factors, e.

[Bug 779071] [NEW] Cannot set default metacontact account

2011-05-07 Thread Elias K Gardner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

To reproduce: Create a metacontact by linking two contacts from
different IM protocols. Double click the new metacontact. A chat window
appears using one of the IM protocols (for me it is facebook others have
reported other protocols being used as default).

There should be a way to specify which protocol is default. I avoid
facebook whenever possibly so I now have to manually select the protocol
when contacting my metacontacts.

[Bug 691482] Re: Brasero Disc Burner wrongly named

2011-05-07 Thread Chris Wilson
@Glennz, comparing Brasero to Firefox or LibreOffice isn't fair since
the apps you mention are in a different league to Brasero.

There are generally two types of apps that the average computer user
will interact with. There are apps such as Firefox, LibreOffice,
Banshee, etc on which they spend the majority of their computing time
either working or playing. They become familiar with these apps to such
an extent that they prefer to use them over others similar ones.

The other type of apps are support utilities, like Brasero. Most people
don't burn CDs/DVDs on a regular basis, it at all, and are unlikely to
have developed an attachment to their disk burner they way they have
with their web browser. In this situation, it doesn't really matter to
them with the thing is called, as long as it does it's job.

Think of it this way - you care about the names of your colleagues but
not the name of the driver of the bus you're on.
