[Bug 777558] Re: gconfd continuously writing to disk at more than 100K/s

2011-05-17 Thread Paul McGarry
I think this may have something to do with gnome-wm.

My .xsession-errors is continuously being written to (it's now 853M in
size) with:

Window manager warning: Screen 0 on display :0 already has a window
manager; try using the --replace option to replace the current window
manager.

and gnome-wm seems to keep being respawned:

paulm@noobuntu:~$ pgrep gnome-wm
4109
paulm@noobuntu:~$ pgrep gnome-wm
paulm@noobuntu:~$ pgrep gnome-wm
4142
paulm@noobuntu:~$ pgrep gnome-wm
paulm@noobuntu:~$ pgrep gnome-wm
paulm@noobuntu:~$ pgrep gnome-wm
4252
paulm@noobuntu:~$ pgrep gnome-wm
paulm@noobuntu:~$ pgrep gnome-wm
4330

Executing:
killall gnome-wm

seems to have stopped the respawning and now gconfd is not causing
noticable IO

I too can confirm this. I've the same machine (XPS l702x aka XPS 17),
display (hd 3D), and graphics card (GT 555m). Same results on each of
the above suggested tests. All indications (OSD, /proc values, g-p-m
output) are that the brightness is changing, but the actual screen does
not change.(Haven't tried the reboot trick yet.)

[Bug 444500] Re: smb shares listed twice

2011-05-17 Thread staho
Nope, it does not seem so.
As for the labelled partitions (#442130): [cite]a workaround is to specify the
partitions by /dev/sdXXX[/cite];
and here with cifs mounts, the only way to get the duplicates off is not to
specify them at all.

BTW. There is a step up in Natty: one record in fstab (say:
//server/share /media/share cifs) is enough to get the duplicated icons
in computer://, thus testing is now easier. ;-)

[Bug 783918] [NEW] Brasero ejects CD before burning audio CD

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

This seems to have been reported a number of times previously, most
closely related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/529696?comments=all

This seems to have reappeared in Natty.

Brasero.log contains:
8--
 cat brasero-session.log
Checking session consistency (brasero_burn_check_session_consistency
brasero-burn.c:1739)
Unsupported type of task operation
Session error : An internal error occurred (brasero_burn_record
brasero-burn.c:2856)
---8
The /etc/libao.conf file contains:

8--
cat /etc/libao.conf
default_driver=alsa
quiet
---8

Recreation is simple.

1) Open Brasero
2) New Audio Project
3) Copy MP3 (or OGG) file into project
4) Attempt to burn
5) CD is ejected before burning.

On a side note, I can't used ubuntu-bug brasero or ubuntu-bug

[Bug 783929] [NEW] power management does not shut down system when ups is low/critical

2011-05-17 Thread Giorgos Akrivas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I have set it to shut down when UPS is low and also to shut down when
UPS is critically low. When on UPS power, the battery discharges. There
is a notification that UPS is critically low, but it does not attempt to
shut down. Then UPS battery dies and the system abruptly turns off too.

I suspect that the reason bight be that it monitors time until battery
empties, instead of monitoring percentage of battery charge. It seems
that the time to empty is incorrect, while percentage is correct.

My UPS is a Belkin

What you expected to happen: When UPS power is low/critically low, the system
should take action based on the power preferences (either hibernate or shut
down)
What actually happened: UPS power gets low/critically low and no action is
taken.
The minimal series of steps necessary to make it happen, where step 1 is start
the program.
1. Power Management Preferences|On UPS Power|When Power is low/critically
low|Shut down
2. Pull the plug so that system runs on UPS power

[Bug 625670] Re: Not all desktop items are themed

2011-05-17 Thread dualityim
I still experience the same problem in Natty using the Ubuntu Classic
environment. The behavior is slightly different though. After logging
out and logging back in, the icon theme is the wrong one, but the rest
of the desktop environment is still using the correct theme. After a few
seconds, however, the entire GTK theme reverts to the default one.
Changing the theme in Appearance Preferences fixes parts of the theme,
but the Gnome Panel remains unthemed.

[Bug 784007] [NEW] Nautilus, after upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04, opens ftp bookmarks in default web browser

2011-05-17 Thread Brett Alton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I'm sure this is a bug based on a library that Nautilus uses and not
actually Nautilus (so if someone who does triage could help, that would
be much appreciated) but after upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04 (on my
laptop and desktop), my computers will open my Nautilus ftp:// bookmarks
in my default web browser (Chrome).

So there's some switch that happens during the upgrade, possibly Chromes
fault, but I figured I'd report it under Nautilus because that's what
I'm using to open my bookmarks.

[Bug 784001] [NEW] XChat auto-join local language channel outdated and confusing

2011-05-17 Thread Alain Kalker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xchat-gnome

When starting XChat for the first time after installation, it attempts
to auto-connect irc.ubuntu.com on port 8001 and auto-join a Ubuntu
channel in the user's language, e.g. #ubuntu-nl .

The connection to irc.ubuntu.com is immediately redirected to
chat.freenode.net. This causes the server name displayed by XChat to change to
Freenode (note the case: not FreeNode !).
Changing server settings under FreeNode (to add server password, enable SSL
connection, etc.), has no effect, because they are made for the wrong server
configuration. Only looking closely at the beginning of the server output makes
this clear.
The reason for all this confusion is that XChat attempts to connect to the IRC
server defined in XChat at Ubuntu Server, hostname irc.ubuntu.com, port 8001,
which is not mentioned anywhere (anymore) in any current documentation I could
find (which all clearly mention FreeNode).

Also, enabling SSL connection for Ubuntu Server gives an error on
connect, because (after redirection from irc.ubuntu.com), the FreeNode
servers don't accept SSL connections on port 8001.

After looking around in the source package, I think the problem is with
the patch 04_autojoin_ubuntu_chan.patch . (Why hard-code this in the
executable anyway?)

I would like to suggest changing the patch to use the server
configuration for FreeNode instead of Ubuntu Server, or at least
change hostname irc.ubuntu.com to chat.freenode.net .

Kind regards, Alain

[Bug 784012] [NEW] Xorg freeze with Ubuntu Floating Ubuntu Screensaver when Power Managment set to put display to sleep

2011-05-17 Thread Jim J
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

While using the Classic Ubuntu Desktop with effects, I've experienced
Xorg freezes when returning to my desktop after the screen has gone
blank.

If I move my mouse or hit the keyboard, the Floating Ubuntu screensaver
will come back up but it is frozen, with no animations.

I can move the mouse and, as I've enabled CTRL-ALT-Backspace, I can
restart X.

The problem DOES NOT appear to happen when using the screensaver by
itself. After looking through my power management settings, it looks
like the problem is partially related to the Power Management being set
to put the display to sleep after a set period of time.

I've changed the power management setting to NEVER put the display to
sleep and have thus far not had the same problem any more.

So, to my untrained eye, it looks like there may be some bad reactions
between power management and the screensaver.

[Bug 784001] Re: XChat auto-join local language channel outdated and confusing

2011-05-17 Thread Alain Kalker
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xchat-gnome

When starting XChat for the first time after installation, it attempts
  to auto-connect irc.ubuntu.com on port 8001 and auto-join a Ubuntu
  channel in the user's language, e.g. #ubuntu-nl .

- The connection to irc.ubuntu.com is immediately redirected to
irc.freenode.net. This causes the server name displayed by XChat to change to
Freenode (note the case: not FreeNode !).
+ The connection to irc.ubuntu.com is immediately redirected to
chat.freenode.net. This causes the server name displayed by XChat to change to
Freenode (note the case: not FreeNode !).
Changing server settings under FreeNode (to add server password, enable SSL
connection, etc.), has no effect, because they are made for the wrong server
configuration. Only looking closely at the beginning of the server output makes
this clear.
The reason for all this confusion is that XChat attempts to connect to the
IRC server defined in XChat at Ubuntu Server, hostname irc.ubuntu.com, port
8001, which is not mentioned anywhere (anymore) in any current documentation I
could find (which all clearly mention FreeNode).

Also, enabling SSL connection for Ubuntu Server gives an error on
connect, because (after redirection from irc.ubuntu.com), the FreeNode
- server doesn't accept SSL connections on port 8001.
+ servers don't accept SSL connections on port 8001.

- After looking around in the source package, I think the problem is with the
patch 04_autojoin_ubuntu_chan.patch .
- Changing irc.ubuntu.com to irc.freenode.net
- (Why hard-code this in the executable anyway?)
+ After looking around in the source package, I think the problem is with
+ the patch 04_autojoin_ubuntu_chan.patch . (Why hard-code this in the

+
+ I would like to suggest changing the patch to use the server

[Bug 744929] Re: After auto-login, prompted to unlock keyring multiple times

2011-05-17 Thread Jason Pepling
We are seeing similar behavior. In our case, we have an 11.04 VM setup
to auto-login with Remote Desktop enabled for a remote user to be able
to access the VM. With this keyring issue, we're in a position where we
have to hold on to the user's password so we can enter in the keyring
password, as the authentication box pops up when the user tries to
connect to the machine. After the password is entered the user can
successfully connect.

I, too, am more than happy to try out a fix as this is a not an ideal
situation for us, but the only workaround we have for the time being.

[Bug 113399] Re: Evolution doesn't decrypt GPG crypted answers sent since Thunderbird/Enigmail

2011-05-17 Thread Noccy
I am still affected by this bug. From what I can tell some clients
insert an extra blank line before the pgp header if this might have
got something to do with it;

Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

-BEGIN PGP MESSAGE-

Compared to a message that does encrypt properly:

X-Evolution-Source: imap://*

-BEGIN PGP MESSAGE-

There is supposed to be an extra blank line before the first -BEGIN

by launchpad.

[Bug 445863] Re: Spell checking doesn't allow US English words when using English language

2011-05-17 Thread nutznboltz
I ran into this on a fresh installation of Natty via the alternate iso.
Took care of it this way:

Click on Applications in the Dock.
Type Language in the text field at the top
Click on Language Support (blue UN flag)
If you are asked about installing more software do it.
Fiddle with the controls until you have the language you want and click:
Apply System Wide.
Reboot or re-login?

[Bug 745245] Re: Seahorse cannot set up SSH keys for login servers

2011-05-17 Thread Human Ashrafi
I had exactly the same error. I solved it by reinstall gnome-keyring
since the autostart applications where somehow messed up.

dpkg --force-all -P gnome-keyring
aptitude install gnome-keyring

So I got my startup file /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-ssh.desktop
back and gnome-session-properties showed gnome-keyring-ssh in the list
again.

What I did before was to manually add the gnome-keyring-ssh with
/usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --start --components=ssh as exec command with
use of gnome-session-properties. This command seemed to work well since I saw
that gnome-keyring-daemon --start reported
SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/tmp/keyring-IzvzoK/ssh.
I have no idea why that didn't work and reinstalling gnome-keyring with the
missing autostart scripts worked. I guess I must have missed some extra Options
like X-GNOME-Autostart-Phase=Initialization, hence the ssh-agent was
registered to the system too late within the startup progress. And i don't know
why the files were missing in first place either.

[Bug 784083] [NEW] evolution-data-server cannot sync ecal against gpilotd

[Bug 784106] [NEW] Updating filename in window title on step too late

2011-05-17 Thread tabbernuk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

When I have more than one file open in Gedit and I switch between files
either using tabs or keys, the filename on window title bar refreshes to
a new value not right after switching, but much later. It seems that the
refresh occurs only if I switch to a new file again, so that I see
always the name of previously edited file in window title. This has been
an issue already in couple of latest Ubuntu releases, but as reporting I
use Maverick and Gedit 2.30.3-1ubuntu1.

[Bug 147943] Re: [MASTER] broken initial stacking (was: compiz hides quick loading windows at login)

2011-05-17 Thread aries
I'm using Elementary OS which is based on Ubuntu 10.10. I've upgraded
compiz to version 0.9.2.1 following an article on Webupd8. After upgrade
and restart, top panel keeps disappearing as soon as it starts for the
first time. It reappears by clicking the desktop. Also without clicking
the desktop, Its tooltips pop up if I move the mouse pointer to the top
left corner of the screen.

One interesting thing I discovered is that if I disable desktop icons
using ubuntu-tweak or gconf-editor, the top panel stops disappearing and
starts visible. I'm not sure it's related to compiz or not, but it was
ok before the upgrade.

I am also having the same issue. For me, also, desktop redraws are
incredibly slow (Clicking on an icon on the desktop until it becomes
highlighted and when dragging to get a selection box, the box takes
forever to draw).

Tried the above suggestions as well, with no success.

[Bug 781375] Re: contact lists is empty

2011-05-17 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

** Summary changed:

[Bug 774255] Re: Natty: Brasero crashes when adding a second song with Banshee

2011-05-17 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Got this error after booting into my fresh install of 11.04 using the alternate

[Bug 776924] Re: Theming service crash and reverting to GTK classic theme. (VMware Fusion as Host)

We need a backtrace in order to fix the issue, without it there's not
much we can do, thanks again. and if you have any questions just ask.

[Bug 738376] Re: mon propre nom gazel est bien enregistré par UBUNTU qui feint de ne pas le reconnaitre ... faut le faire !

2011-05-17 Thread OC
Launchpad user gazel seems to have mistaken the Ubuntu project page on
Launchpad for Ubuntu itself.
S/He seems to have hit a permission error on LP and simply says something in
the lines of what are you going to do now?. Title also contains some
complaint.

The whole thing is also nonsense to a French reader. Closing as invalid.

[Bug 784227] [NEW] Closing lid renders X unusable

2011-05-17 Thread pajgrant
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

When I close the lid on my thinkpad t420s and reopen it, I can't use X.
I can still move the mouse about but everything behind it remains
static. If I leave it long enough to go into a screensaver then I just
see the contents of the screen from before the screensaver went on. I
can see a text editing cursor over the bit where I'd type my password.
If there are buttons on the screen then I can click them but there are
no visible changes, but they have an effect. For instance I can stop and
resume music this way.

When I put the laptop to sleep and bring it back again the screen has a
black background, unless it's in one of the tty sessions, in which case
it shows that when I go back to X.

[Bug 784229] [NEW] [oneiric] g-s-d crashes on startup with appindicator enabled

2011-05-17 Thread Martin Pulec
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

Hi, I have problem with g-s-t backported to Natty from Oneiric via
gnome3 ppa. It crashes when enabled appindicator

as a configure parameter (--disable-appindicator), it is ok.

BTW, the relevant error message is as follows:
