Re: [Bug 775089] Re: selecting resolution in monitors doesnt change resolution in log in screen etc
Hi Chris Thanks for your response I may not have explained the problem clearly. *first a little background: * From what I understand, ubuntu automatically detects your monitors resolution/resolutions and populates a list of choices. when you go into applications/monitors, you are then able to select one of those items from the list. My monitor is an acer with an aspect ration of 4:3. but what is happening in my case is that ubuntu is listing resolutions for both 4:3 displays as well as 16:9. and even though I have a 4:3 display, it is defaulting to a 16:9 so my install menu, grub menu, login screen, boot up screen and actual system defaults to this 16:9 aspect ration. unfortunately 16:9 is incompatible with my monitor, and so my monitor displays a large error message across the middle of the screen that doesn't go away. This blocks out a large portion of the display. the log in screen sits in the middle of the display also, and because it is being covered with an error message, I am unable to log in. If I select the correct resolution using applications/monitors, the error message goes away and I can then use ubuntu. *But here is the paper cut*- the grub menu, login screen, splash screen and exit screen remain at the original 16:9 aspect ratio resolution. when I choose my preferred resolution, it should carry that choice through to those four screens as well In the past I had to fix this manually by going into X11/xorg.conf and editing that file manually. Unfortunately this solution has not worked since 9:10, or there about. for more information, here are other people discussing this problem : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=359310 thanks once again On 25 May 2011 23:18, Chris Wilson notg...@lavabit.com wrote: Thanks a lot for reporting this. I changed it to incomplete for now. Don't hesitate to put it back to new if you think it's a bug. Guillem, what you describe is not what Stephan initially reported. Did my comment (#5) make you understand how it works? Or do you still believe it's a bu? (If so, don't hesitate to open a new report). Stephan, I was unable to reproduce that. That's why I put it back to incomplete, I want another reporter to put it to confirmed. Nicholas, regarding comments #2, I would suggest you fill another bug report (if no one exists for this issue). It might be related to this one, but it is not so obvious. [Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity
I've assigned the bug to the linux package too, since this seems more related to the kernel than to X or the gnome-screensaver itself (since the bug is shown also using xset dpms force off). I'm quite sure it depends on the kernel side, since few months ago I upgraded my maverick kernel with the natty one (just the kernel) and this bug began to manifest. It has still persisted when upgrading also Xorg, libdrm, Mesa and Compiz (yeah... I love hybrid systems :D). So I guess that it's mostly related to it. Could it be related to this: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27312 ? Plus, in my PC I've an hybrid-graphics (Intel + ATi). I actually noticed the bug only when using the Intel i965 card, while with I never got it while using my ATi evergreen card, but to be fair I've to say that I rarely enable this discrete card. ** Bug watch added: Linux Kernel Bug Tracker #27312 http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27312 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/762918 Title: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 379599] Re: System shutdown on 0% for 1 of 2 batteries.
I can confirm I'm still seeing this on a fresh install of Natty. I've got the ThinkPad x220 and the additional slice battery. At the moment the primary battery is fully charged and the secondary is discharging. cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state: present: yes capacity state: ok charging state: charged present rate:0 mA remaining capacity: 6618 mAh present voltage: 12852 mV cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state: present: yes capacity state: ok charging state: discharging present rate:953 mA remaining capacity: 4722 mAh present voltage: 11823 mV So from acpi's perspective both are detected correctly. Opening up the Power Statistics also shows them detected correctly. But the Power Management panel widget shows two batteries, both with the same time remaining. This always stays in sync as if it's only pulling data from one battery, and since it's dropping it must be the secondary. When the secondary battery gets down into the critical range, Power Management will erroneously see that condition on both batteries and shut the laptop down. Which is annoying enough, but there's also no option to do nothing when battery power is critically low. I'm forced to choose between suspend, hibernate or shut down. So if I don't happen to be watching the laptop when the secondary battery is about to run out I might as well not have it at all - any processes I have running get interrupted. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/379599 Title: System shutdown on 0% for 1 of 2 batteries. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

The reason I am reporting this a notify-osd bug is because the warning windows belong to /usr/lib/notify-osd/notify-osd (as indicated by xprop _NET_WM_PID): steffl@hangplace:~$ xprop _NET_WM_PID _NET_WM_PID(CARDINAL) = 1998 steffl@hangplace:~$ ps ax|grep 1998 1998 ?Sl 0:00 /usr/lib/notify-osd/notify-osd 10808 pts/0S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto 1998 steffl@hangplace:~$ xprop _NET_WM_PID _NET_WM_PID(CARDINAL) = 1998 steffl@hangplace:~$ ubuntu-bug 1998 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: notify-osd 0.9.30-0ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-8.42-generic 2.6.38.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-8-generic i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Wed May 4 14:38:20 2011 ExecutablePath: /usr/lib/notify-osd/notify-osd GtkTheme: New Wave IconTheme: Humanity-Dark InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala - Release i386 (20091028.5) MachineType: Hewlett-Packard HP Compaq dc5700 Microtower ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_US:en PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-8-generic root=UUID=fad4d800-d67c-4eb1-9590-8b58b476ba39 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 RelatedPackageVersions: xserver-xorg 1:7.6+4ubuntu3 libgl1-mesa-glx 7.10.2-0ubuntu2 libdrm2 2.4.23-1ubuntu6 xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7.1 xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.14.0-0ubuntu4 SourcePackage: notify-osd UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to natty on 2011-04-29 (4 days ago) WindowManager: metacity XsessionErrors: (Do:1983): Wnck-CRITICAL **: wnck_set_client_type got called multiple times. dmi.bios.date: 04/13/2007 dmi.bios.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.bios.version: 786E2 v02.04 dmi.board.name: 0A60h dmi.board.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.chassis.asset.tag: 187556 dmi.chassis.type: 6 dmi.chassis.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnHewlett-Packard:bvr786E2v02.04:bd04/13/2007:svnHewlett-Packard:pnHPCompaqdc5700Microtower:pvr:rvnHewlett-Packard:rn0A60h:rvr:cvnHewlett-Packard:ct6:cvr: dmi.product.name: HP Compaq dc5700 Microtower dmi.sys.vendor: Hewlett-Packard ** Affects: gnome-disk-utility (Ubuntu) Importance: Low Status: Incomplete ** Tags: apport-bug i386 natty running-unity -- Huge number of 'Disk Utility' notification windows https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/777452 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-disk-utility in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 777452] Re: Huge number of 'Disk Utility' notification windows
Turning off the notifications - is that supposed to be a solution or workaround? Cause I want the notification, just not infinite number of alert boxes. The alert boxes are the notifications, they belong to /usr/lib/notify- osd/notify-osd. So how is this not a notify-isd bug? I mean even if not used correctly the notifications (in the form of alert boxes) should not kill X server (which is what happens if it runs unattended for few days). A service that is so central to the usage of system (lot of programs use notifications) should be rock solid. Not kill X server at slightest misuse (more DOS attack than literally kill). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-disk-utility in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/777452 Title: Huge number of 'Disk Utility' notification windows -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 377175] Re: Volume Up button locks screen
Further information: I use the Keyboard (Cherry CyMotion Master Linux) in PS/2 mode on a docking station of an HP notebook. In /usr/share/hal/fdi/information/30-keymap-hp.fdi the scancode of the copy key (e00a) is mapped to screenlock. In the same directory, mappings for several other computer manufacturers are provided. And since gnome-screensaver listens on screenlock (which is identical to coffee), the screensaver is started when the copy key is pressed. I use the same keyboard on a different computer (non-HP) and there the behavior is not observed, since the manufacturer string does not match in 30-keymap-hp.fdi and the scancode (e00a) is not set. This is not directly related to the Macally keyboard since it is connected by means of USB, but somehow on kernel level keycode 152 (KEY_COFFEE) is likely to be generated, which completely bypasses the X11 key handling. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/377175 Title: Volume Up button locks screen -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 788870] [NEW] Album cover not shown in sound indicator applet when playing last.fm tracks
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox When playing tracks from last.fm in rhythmbox, the indicator applet menu shows a musical note symbol instead of the album cover of the track that is playing. Rhythmbox retrieves the covers for last.fm tracks correctly, since they are visible within rhythmbox itself, so it must be something in the communication with the indicator applet. The album covers for local tracks are displayed correctly, so it is not a general problem. [Bug 788894] [NEW] nautilus doesn't create interactive desktop in classic session
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus In a fully-updated Oneiric i386 system with no graphics acceleration, running nautilus 1:3.0.2-0ubuntu1 and (in case it's relevant, as may be suggested by output to stderr) appmenu-gtk 0.2.1-0ubuntu3, Nautilus doesn't create an interactive desktop when run in an Ubuntu Classic (no effects) session. The desktop is blank, contains no icons (even when there are files in $HOME/Desktop that don't start with .), and does not respond to right-clicking or to clicking-and-dragging). Until the large number of updates I installed earlier today (/var/log/dpkg.log attached), a Nautilus folder window would launch when I logged in. I had assumed that was occurring instead of Nautilus creating an interactive desktop. Now no Nautilus folder window is created. Running nautilus manually successfully brings up a folder window, but does not render the desktop functional. When Nautilus is run from a Terminal window, the following messages (each with a blank line after it) are printed 24 times after the initial Initializing nautilus-gdu extension message: `menu_proxy_module_load': nautilus: undefined symbol: menu_proxy_module_load (nautilus:1891): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to load type module: (null) However, those messages are also printed when I run other GTK+ applications from the Terminal (such as gedit), so they might not really be related in any way to this bug. I've included them in case they are. The Oneiric system on which this occurred and on which I am reporting this bug was created several weeks ago by changing nattys to oneirics in sources.list and running apt-get update followed by apt-get dist upgrade. But I was also able to reproduce this problem on an Oneiric i386 20110526.1 daily-live system running on a machine with identical hardware (also in an Ubuntu Classic (no effects) session). This bug has some degree of resemblance to bug 708525, bug 749703, and probably others, but those bugs seem to lack the necessary degree of specificity (at this time) to determine if they are similar in cause to this bug.
