[Bug 783130] Re: Missing users on Ubuntu login screen

2011-08-06 Thread LordFarquaad
I wonder if I haven't found a workaround: I think I didn't encounter
this issue since I added IncludeAll=true in the [greeter] section of
/etc/gdm/custom.conf

What's strange is that this file is almost empty: only the sections were
present. Then were is defined the rest of the configuration?

[Bug 821891] [NEW] Nautilus shortcut for new blank file

2011-08-06 Thread Klau3
Public bug reported:

Oneiric up-to-date
Nautilus 3.1.4

It would be nice if I could create a new file by pressing a shortcut like it is
already possible for folders (CTRL+SHIFT+N).
I suggest CTRL+SHIFT+F or M to creat a new blank file (M, because it is next to
N and has no affinity with CTRL+F).

[Bug 783130] Re: Missing users on Ubuntu login screen

2011-08-06 Thread turbolad
@Jonathan A. Marshall

I installed Ubuntu onto my new PC back in April and the hardware has not
changed at all. I still have this problem with the login screen. There
are 3 user accounts and I regularly see the other names are missing,
just my name is showing. Then other times all 3 usernames are on the
login screen.

It's an intermittent problem.

[Bug 821939] [NEW] no keyboard at gdm login

2011-08-06 Thread Bruce Miller
Public bug reported:

This bug appears similar to Bug #546587, but has arisen suddenly under
11.04 natty.

I do a full-upgrade on this system several times a week, but am not
aware of any (or which?) upgrade triggered this sudden failure.

The primary symptom is a lack of keyboard function on gdm.

Troubleshooting to date has involved:
1. eliminating hardware failure as a cause;
2. rebooting into recovery console to confirm full keyboard function in login
console;
3. replacement of gdm by kdm has worked around the problem and restored
capacity to use X.org (yes, I know there are other means, such as startx, but
other users of this computer are less Linux-literate than I. I want to keep
everything simple for them.)

A quick Google search suggests that this problem, which periodically
afflicts users, stems from an initialization timing problem. Other life
events hinder me from taking the time to develop the skills to maintain
an appropriate patch on a permanent basis.

P.S. This bug *_might_* be a duplicate of Bug #807251.

1) copy the From: line
2) paste it in before line 1
3) remove the colon

[Bug 673520] Re: Evolution is the default for opening .eml files but it fails to do so

2011-08-06 Thread Arno Teigsetheth
An ugly workaround that will search take the first From: line inside the
.eml, write it to the top of the .eml and remove the colon, and then
start evolution on it.

To use it, save this script to your computer and associate .eml files
with it.

Evolution should be fixed, so this is NOT a fix, but a cheap workaround.

To reproduce

ps2pdf DIMACS_Fo_Go.ps

This generates DIMACS_Fo_Go.pdf which is displayed correctly by evince
or gs.

cupsfilter -m application/vnd.cups-pdf -p
/etc/cups/ppd/yourprinter.ppd DIMACS_Fo_Go.pdf out.pdf

out.pdf shows blank pages when displayed with gs and only a few
characters when displayed with evince. On the terminal appear a lot of
error messages in both cases.

pdftopdf is a part of the CUPS package and it uses Poppler. Changing bug

[Bug 822045] [NEW] Compiz keyboard shortcuts conflict with shortcuts set in gnome-control center

2011-08-06 Thread Dylan McCall
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
* Using Unity, note that Ctrl+Alt+T opens the terminal by default. This is
handled by the Gnome Compatibility plugin in Compiz.
* In the Keyboard panel of gnome-control-center, note that this shortcut is not
listed.
* Add a custom shortcut to open a different application and assign it the key
sequence Ctrl+Alt+T. The settings panel does not indicate that this shortcut
is in use. However, Ctrl+Alt+T will continue to be handled by Compiz.

[Bug 822063] [NEW] [Oneiric] Nautilus two pane view, unfocused pane can't be accessed by mouse click

2011-08-06 Thread Sam_
Public bug reported:

Nautilus with enabled location bar (Ctrl+L), two pane view (F3) and side pane
with tree view.
The unfocused location bar doesn't allow to be clicked on in order to change
focus of panes or to edit for example the path.
This is possible in Natty.
Acknowlegded that switching panes can also be done by F6, the mouse option
should remain available as an obvious access-tool, the shortcut isn't
documented prominently.

Use case.
If the two panes are full with folders and files, there is no empty area to
click on.
The remaining choices to switch between the two panes are then only shortcuts
or location bar.
Question #166541

Expected.
Allow unfocused location bar to be accessible again with mouse click.

[Bug 822084] [NEW] Can't auto open SD cards (Oneiric alpha 3)

2011-08-06 Thread Rom Raptor
Public bug reported:

In Natty 64-bit i chose to automatically open SD cards with Nautilus.
Then what happened was when I inserted an SD card it would open fora
second and then close. Sometime during early summer the bug disappeared
(i'm guessing some update fixed it). Today I tried Oneiric alpha 3
64-bit and the bug is back.

PS. I've tried different card readers and yes it works every time in
Natty (since early summer) and never in Oneiric alpha 3.

[Bug 710171] Re: gnome3-session is not installable as gnome-shell doesn't exist

2011-08-06 Thread Jeremy Bicha
funicorn, it was widely announced that Gnome Shell was not going to be
ready for inclusion in the Ubuntu 11.04 repositories because it wasn't
ready. Once a Ubuntu version is released, it is impossible to add new
packages to it, not to mention that it would require adding all of Gnome
3 to a Gnome 2.32 distribution which is extremely disruptive.

This kind of bug can only be fixed in the development release of Ubuntu,
but it has already been fixed there! In Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric), all
you'll need to do is sudo apt-get install gnome-shell and everything
should just work.

[Bug 822119] [NEW] Window title does not show filename (unless maximised)

2011-08-06 Thread Xavier Bassery
Public bug reported:

Step to reproduce this bug:
1. Open eog and open a picture in a folder with at least 2 pictures (in order
to be able to browse).
2. while eog is unmaximised, press the space key to display the next picture.
expected behaviour: the window title should update itself to show the
picture's filename
observed behaviour: the title is left unchanged
3. now, maximise eog window and press the space key.
this time, the window tile (which in fact is now handled by
indicator-appmenu) gets updated every time the picture is changed.

[Bug 64064] Re: would be nice to add ~/bin to the default PATH

2011-08-06 Thread Drew
Th e problem is not users adding system paths, the problem is gnome-
panel allows no user overrides. The only way to modify the path is to
modify the global /etc/profile. Gnome-panel should be overridden by
~/.profile.

[Bug 64064] Re: would be nice to add ~/bin to the default PATH

2011-08-06 Thread Drew
I should update, /etc/profile doesn't work. ~/.gnomerc does obliging my
concerns of modifying global env variables for local settings.
