[Bug 822479] Re: Massive Evolution Mail memory leak

2011-08-13 Thread osprey
Some addition to the bug scenario:
I've fresh installed ubuntu 11.04 on a new laptop, then I backed up all my
evolution data from the old laptop and imported the backup onto the new one.
After that operation evolution on the new laptop started to eat up ram in
horrible way, taking around 100MB of memory for each message opened, and never
freeing memory.
So I've cleaned the configuration files of evolution and the locally downloaded
mails. After this step evolution seems to does not eat up memory by simply
opening messages.
Before the operation it was leaking about 100MB of memory for each message
opened.
The removed files to clean up config and downloaded messages are
~/.evolution
~/.local/share/evolution
~/.config/evolution

The memory leak could be related to the big quantity of locally stored messages
(around 2Gb), or with a setting coming from the old setup that triggered a bug
in evolution.
Is there a way to test whatever setting caused the issue?

[Bug 825741] [NEW] When trying to play a WAV file, totem ask to install already installed multimedia plugins

2011-08-13 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Public bug reported:

I tried to play a wav file from a CD, totem said that a plugin was missing and
launched gstreamer-codec-install.
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly was listed and selected.

I clicked on install, proceeded with confirmation and authentication and
after some time a small untitled dialog popped up saying that 'Package
is already installed / There isn't any need for an installation'

The 'Details' part of this dialog is 1 pixel height.

After closing this dialog totem is still unable to play a a wav file.

This very file can be played successfully with rhythmbox.

2011-08-13 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Public bug reported:

In nautilus, the the user moves the mouse over a sound file, the file is
played.
If the user open that file, it starts playing in the associated multimedia

If the user moves the mouse over another file it starts playing that other file
together with what is playing with the multimedia player resulting in a sound
mess.

Ok, if gnome-system-tools is deprecated in Gnome3, what about Xfce,
means Xubuntu?

It seems they still use and need this package. I realized this bug,
while using Xubuntu@Xfce (pls. see Bug #824485) ...

[Bug 825566] Re: gdm needs Ubuntu logo/art/branding integration

2011-08-13 Thread mlaverdiere
** Description changed:

We all know that, starting from Oneiric, gdm is replaced by lightdm on
regular Ubuntu, but still, it still need Ubuntu love! At least, for
those who will want to use the regular/vanilia Gnome 3 (with gnome-
shell) and wants optimal integration with the DM.

- Here's another way to look at this: while there's no Gubuntu, there's
- reason that gdm suffers from un-integration when DM for Kubuntu (KDE),
- Xubuntu (XFCE) and Lubuntu (LXDE) have this kind of sweetness.
+ Here's another way to look at this: while there is no Gubuntu
+ variant, there is no reason that gdm suffers from un-integration when DM
+ for Kubuntu (KDE), Xubuntu (XFCE) and Lubuntu (LXDE) have this kind of
+ sweetness.

Right now (on Oneiric Alpha 3), gdm is not so bad, but for one thing,
the upper Ubuntu logo is missing (the actual logo is a computer one...).

This may be considered a wish report, as this is not pointing to any
  kind of real bug.

  Thanks.

[Bug 825791] [NEW] The theme sometimes changes to fallback theme on itself, can't change it back

2011-08-13 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
Public bug reported:

In spite of the fact that the fallback theme is the one in use, my
original theme still remains selected in Appearance. I can't change the
theme, because clicking on other themes only changes it for the window
of the program Appearance, other windows stay with the fallback theme.
The icon theme will stay the fallback even in the Apprearance window.
After I log out and back in, everything is fine.

I don't know how to reproduce it yet. It happens like once in 2 weeks.

[Bug 825874] [NEW] Thinkpad T61 keyboard volume control buttons badly programmed

2011-08-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Thinkpad T61 keyboard volume control buttons badly programmed.
I am playing a piece of music using Banshee. If I press the hardware keyboard
volume control button Mute, then the volume will be zero. This is as
expected.
If I now press the hardware keyboard volume control button Mute again, then
the volume will stay zero. This is an error. I expect that the old volume would
be restored.
But I can press now the hardware keyboard volume control button Up, and the
music will play with the old volume value.
This is an error because this button's function is only to increase the volume
from the present volume level.

[Bug 622965] Re: New windows always use active window's layout

2011-08-13 Thread Mikhail V. Golubev
Now I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 (with Unity desktop) on two computers: one is
upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 and one is clean installed Ubuntu 11.04.

And this bug is still reproducible in both systems.

This bug appears not every time when I switch keyboard layout and launch new
application window, but sometimes.
I'm using Caps Lock and Right Ctrl + Right Shift keys to change keyboard
layout, maybe this causes the bug.

[Bug 825874] Re: Thinkpad T61 keyboard volume control buttons badly programmed

2011-08-13 Thread Chow Loong Jin
I think the behaviour for this has changed in Ubuntu 10.10, so that
volume up pushes the volume up from 0 instead. On the other hand, it
sounds like your mute button isn't registering a keypress when the
volume is muted, hence not allowing you to unmute it.

Could you run xev in a terminal, and in the window that appears, press
Mute twice in succession, then post the output here.

Either way, the volume that is being changed is the global machine
volume, rather than Banshee's volume (Banshee has nothing to do with the
volume keys), so I'm changing the package to gnome-settings-daemon
temporarily (I believe that's what handles the volume keys)

** Changed in: banshee (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Incomplete

** Package changed: banshee (Ubuntu) = gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu)

[Bug 825941] [NEW] Ubuntu Login Spacebar Freeze

2011-08-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 (Unity-Desktop). After laptop booting is
complete, the login screen appears. The first and unique user is
preselected. When choosing this user by pressing spacebar (no mouse
action before), the field for entering the password will appear and the
Ubuntu freezes. No input is accepted. Mouse does not move. The system
will not change screen on CTRL+ALT+F1 and it will not shutdown when
pressing power key. When pressing ENTER/RETURN-key instead of spacebar,
the system will work without any trouble.

[Bug 825956] [NEW] Add Contractor support

2011-08-13 Thread Daniel Fore
Public bug reported:

Contractor is a neat little system service that allows applications to
become automatically extensible. If File roller were to support
Contractor, it could integrate it's features into every application that
supports contractor without requiring developers to explicitly write a
lot of code. You can read more about some of the ideas behind contractor
here: http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/03/contractor-brings-seamless-
file-sharing-between-apps-to-the-linux-desktop/

Specifically, I'd like to see the action for Compress Folder supported
in contractor. This is a neat action present in Nautilus and it'd be
nice to have it in other apps that deal with folders.

Writing a contract is insanely simple:
http://elementaryos.org/docs/apis/contractor/writing-contract

[Bug 419143] Re: Printing from evince (and perhaps other GTK apps) to PostScript printers is broken (0a bytes inserted into PostScript output)

2011-08-13 Thread Lindsay
I'm also seeing this in Ubuntu Natty (11.04) when printing _some_ pages
from Firefox to a Brother HL-5250DN. Other pages work OK. This may or
may not be related to a long-standing problem with this printer whereby
the 2nd and subsequent jobs sent to the printer without a printer power-
cycle or printer reset will result in garbled text.

[Bug 825753] Re: command ps -A has fixed lenght output

2011-08-13 Thread Dave Gilbert
Hi,
This isn't gnome-terminal (happens in other terminals).

But I also, don't think it's actually a bug; I think ps -A is using
/proc/pid/comm to get the unchangable task name, the
kernel docs (Documentation/filesystems/proc.txt) state:

3.6 /proc/pid/comm /proc/pid/task/tid/comm

These files provide a method to access a tasks comm value. It also allows for
a task to set its own or one of its thread siblings comm value. The comm value
is limited in size compared to the cmdline value, so writing anything longer
then the kernel's TASK_COMM_LEN (currently 16 chars) will result in a truncated
comm value.

So, that's what the kernel provides, so I don't think that's a bug.
(You might decide it is a bug, in which case it seems to be the kernel).

Dave

Hi,
Can you describe exactly the problem that you have seen?

For me I've got the aisleriot package installed, but it doesn't show up in a
unity search - but I'm not sure if that's Unity's search or aisleriot that has
the problem.
(The name of the program if you want to run it from the command line, appears
to be sol )

[Bug 800925] Re: Gnome Terminal empties command history every run

2011-08-13 Thread Stephen Rees-Carter
I've had this problem where the first command I run on the terminal was
through sudo. This created by .bash_history file owned by root, so it
could never be written in. This might, or might not, be the cause of
your problem...

To test this, can you run this command:

ls -la ~/.bash_history

[Bug 714088] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

2011-08-13 Thread Tony Mugan
I just got it with Oneiric also after all latest updates today.
I noticed that there were three wifi icons at the top of the screen in Gnome.
(having trouble with unity and fglrx but that is a different story).

On hovering over the icons it became clear that the menus beneath them were ok
(sound and accessibility features).
This is when the crash dialog popped up so it may be related to me using the
menus.
