2011-09-11 Thread Osmo Laitinen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 809420 ***

I cannot reproduce it anymore.
Apparently there is no need to enable the account after password is set. That's
good.
But there is another usability problem (maybe this should be reported somewhere
else?):

First account is created and it states like this:
Password: Account disabled

Then you press Account disabled and set a password. After that it states:
Password:

Now you don't see is account still disabled or was it enabled while
password was set.

Maybe it should look like:
First case:
Account: Disabled
Password: No password set

After setting password:
Account: enabled
Password:

[Bug 846853] [NEW] Documentation error in Use the Launcher to start applications

2011-09-11 Thread riban
Public bug reported:

In the help section, Use the Launcher to start applications it states,
Tap the meta key twice. The Launcher will appear briefly, but will
disappear unless you hover your mouse over the Launcher. I believe this
behaviour may have changed because I find that you need to hold the meta
key to trigger this action. Any brief presses of the meta key open the
Dash.

[Bug 846873] [NEW] Evince: Invisible text in PDF file

2011-09-11 Thread Lex Ross
Public bug reported:

Certain format produces transparent text when viewing PDF on the screen.
The text remains invisible even if formatted. The only way to get to see
that text is to copy-paste it blindly into the text editor or the
terminal. To reproduce, see for instance an O'Relly Book Running Linux
4th Edition which is available for download free of charge and is
attached to this bug report for your convenience.

Scroll down to any page containing commands to be entered into the
terminal on the command line. Any text after the command prompt is
invisible. For instance, at the bottom of page 58 the fdisk command
does not appear after the # (root prompt) on the command line.
swaponcommand cannot be seen at the bottom of page 62 and so forth.

[Bug 846900] [NEW] Empathy crashes on startup

2011-09-11 Thread Alexander Hunziker
Public bug reported:

Since recently, empathy crashes on startup for me, it often takes gnome-
shell down with it, too. This was somehow not captured by apport, so I
got a backtrace using GDB:

[Bug 846367] Re: When opening a directory with totem, video files are added to the playlist but some of them won't play

2011-09-11 Thread Marwan Tanager
Navigating through all the files in the playlist I noticed that a line,
like the one below, is the common denominator with all the files that
couldn't be played:

0:01:32.405488455 2193 0xe46160 WARN
  ffmpeg
gstffmpegdec.c:2215:gst_ffmpegdec_frame:ffdec_mpeg41 ffdec_mpeg4:
decoding error (len: -1, have_data: 0)

with ffdec_mpeg4 is changed to ffdec_file_type depending on the file
type.

[Bug 846916] [NEW] Missing files to support AFP shares

2011-09-11 Thread Luca Ferretti
Public bug reported:

Staring from 1.9.4, gvfs supports AFP protocol (see [1]); if I'm right,
no additional external dep is needed for it, just build and install
proper files. Unfortunately needed files are not installed in Ubuntu
oneiric

luca@turnip:~$ find /opt/gnome3/ -name *afp*
/opt/gnome3/libexec/gvfsd-afp-browse
/opt/gnome3/libexec/gvfsd-afp
/opt/gnome3/share/gvfs/mounts/afp-browse.mount
/opt/gnome3/share/gvfs/mounts/afp.mount

(/opt/gnome3 is my own installation prefix for gnome stuff from git
through jhbuild)

luca@turnip:~$ apt-file search gvfsd-afp-browse
luca@turnip:~$ apt-file search gvfsd-afp
luca@turnip:~$ apt-file search afp-browse.mount
luca@turnip:~$ apt-file search afp.mount
luca@turnip:~$

I suspect debian pkg files need updates :)

[Bug 846808] Re: gnome-network-admin menu entry does not use gksu

2011-09-11 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
network-admin shouldn't be run as root. The normal way is that you have
a button allowing you to authenticate as admin. In your case. I suspect
the PolicyKit authentication agent isn't running, which is why the
button text is disabled.

Run gnome-session-properties and make sure the Authentication agent
item is checked, then log out, it should work.

[Bug 846955] [NEW] Display issue in new files

2011-09-11 Thread Nishant
Public bug reported:

When I open a new PDF file, the place where the title bar should have been is
empty. Since my default setting for new files is to open in a maximised window,
which in Unity does not have a separate title bar, it shows an empty space
where the title bar should have been if it did not merge with the panel. But
when I open the file the next time, without changing anything, it displays it
properly. The window is properly maximized and there are no empty spaces.
I had reset compiz a few days back because of some mistake on my part. That
made no difference to this issue.

2011-09-11 Thread Constantin R
Public bug reported:

Changing the brightness via FN key combination or via the brightness applet is
very slow.
the CPUs don't seem to go to 100%, but the adjustment process seems relatively
slow.
The mouse cursor is also sluggish.
Reinstalled the OS twice, but not because of this issue and the problem seems
to persist.

[Bug 587856] Re: GNOME Drag Drop broken for remote X sessions in Lucid

2011-09-11 Thread Tobias
The problem persists.
Upstream GNOME/GTK developers are not responding for almost a year now although
a the code has been isolated.
KDE applications do well with drag and drop.

This is annoying.
Is there any workaround (besides using x11vnc as a server?)

Also Mr. Fulton should check his mailer.

[Bug 620331] Re: Keyboard menu title needlessly has both icon and label

2011-09-11 Thread pablomme
The trick still works, but the parent key has been removed (probably
migrated to gsettings). You need to create the Boolean key
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/indicator/showFlags and set it to
true.

[Bug 803800] Re: gnome-help opens infinitely

2011-09-11 Thread Bertrand Chevrier
Sorry for the late answer.

If you hit f1 in a terminal it opens a thousand of yelp windows?
Yes

Could you please try the same with a new user created there?
I cannot reproduce it anymore even though I've kept the same yelp package. I've
also tested with a newly created user and I'm not able to reproduce it.

[Bug 841821] Re: Color manager shows [invalid UTF-8]

2011-09-11 Thread florin
@Pedro - sorry for late answer, I was offline.

I did not have read-edit and had to install it:
sudo apt-get install read-edid

There is a problem with the command line:
florin@florin-VirtualBox:~$ get-edid | parse-edid edid2.txt
get-edid: get-edid version 2.0.0
mmap /dev/zero: Operation not permitted
get-edid: error initialising realmode interface
get-edid: do you have full superuser (root) permissions?

And the file contains only this:
parse-edid: parse-edid version 2.0.0
parse-edid: IO error reading EDID
