[Bug 850651] [NEW] Keyring forgot LUKS passphrase

2011-09-15 Thread Christophe
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have an encrypted volume using LUKS on a iscsi device. When my
notebook was returning from standby mode, I couldn't access it anymore.
I restarted open-iscsi, but there was still a device which I removed
with dmsetup. I still couldn't mount the volume (the passphrase is
usually in my login keying) so I restarted my notebook. I couldn't login
afterwards, so I checked the keyring and the passphrase was gone.

The keyring must not under any circumstances forget one of my
passphrases. Otherwise I have to keep all passphrases in a separate file
which shouldn't be necessary. I luckily did.

2011-09-15 Thread Andreas
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 805894 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/805894

And on restarting the gnome.settings-daemon in a terminal window as
logged in user (that is not root)

i got this in the debug output

** (gnome-settings-daemon:8702): DEBUG: GnomeSettingsManager: emitting
plugin-activated housekeeping
** (gnome-settings-daemon:8702): DEBUG: Plugin housekeeping: active
** (gnome-settings-daemon:8702): WARNING **: Name taken or bus went away -
shutting down
** (gnome-settings-daemon:8702): DEBUG: Shutting down

The third line looks like the culprit.
What bus? What name?

Hope that helps...

following:
Bug in window manager: Unexpected X error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
serial 54010 error_code 3 request_code 19 minor_code 0)
Aborted (core dumped)

How to reproduce:
With metacity as the window manager open the WINE task manager (wine taskmgr).
Select New Task... browse to an executable the little dialog pops up with the
location and click Ok. Metacity crashes.

[Bug 795349] Re: [Dell Latitude E6420] gnome-mouse-properties does not provide Touchpad settings

2011-09-15 Thread Hans Hellén
As a workaround you can use external USB mouse and disable the touchpad (and
the trackstick) in
BIOS Settings
– POST Behavior
– – Mouse/Touchpad, by selecting Serial Mouse.

To enter BIOS Setup you might have to keep F12 pressed down...

I think it's important to provide this functionality again, and the fact
that we need a new string is secondary on this particular case, so
translations shouldn't be blocking the update.

Now you can add 'Nederlands (Belgie)', but after a restart it gets removed from

[Bug 732867] Re: gnome-display-properties monitor layout not saved when re-docking (and display port)

2011-09-15 Thread Torsten Spindler
Calling gsd_xrandr_manager_apply_configuration (mgr, error);
unconditionally from plugins/xrandr/gsd-xrandr-manager.c handle_fn_f7
will restore the existing configuration as well. But fn-f7 cycling
through display modes stops working, as the existing configuration will
always take precedence.

Unfortunately I don't think gnome-settings-daemon has any idea that the
system is being docked. So only conditionally calling
apply_configuration from gsd-xrandr-manager.c handle_fn_f7 will most
likely not work.

Is there any other place in the system that is run only when a system is
being docked? From there we could call ApplyConfiguration via dbus.

Alternatively the fn-f7 modes should contain the saved configuration, the
configurations are generated upon docking in
generate_fn_f7_configs:

g_ptr_array_add (array, gnome_rr_config_new_current (screen));
g_ptr_array_add (array, make_clone_setup (screen));
g_ptr_array_add (array, make_xinerama_setup (screen));
g_ptr_array_add (array, make_laptop_setup (screen));
g_ptr_array_add (array, make_other_setup (screen));
g_ptr_array_add (array, gnome_rr_config_new_stored (screen, NULL)); /*
NULL-GError - if this can't read the stored config, no big deal */

[Bug 745556] Re: nautilus ssh connection after suspend to ram - browsing location lost

2011-09-15 Thread donquixote
I think this behavior is not as it should be.
At the time I wrote the previous message, it did work with suspend-to-ram.
Now I checked with hibernate, and again I need to manually cut ssh connection
and then do something to reconnect. And before I cut the connection, things
freeze.

So, the problems I have:
- the freeze on some things (Nautilus, gedit) before I cut the (broken)
connection.
- the steps needed to get back to the connection and nautilus browsing state
that i had before hibernation.

I suggest some of the people at ubuntu should test this, and then decide
what is the intended / desirable behavior in this kind of situation. Atm
it seems that there is no intentional spec about this, just anything can
happen.

And please, be careful with modal dialogs, that interrupt the flow at
the wrong time. The user should not care about the broken connection,
until she wants to interact with the nautilus or gedit tab that depends
on the connection.

[Bug 732867] Re: gnome-display-properties monitor layout not saved when re-docking (and display port)

2011-09-15 Thread Torsten Spindler
I followed the path of calling ApplyConfiguration from a script upon
docking, and while it is not pretty, it basically works:

# cat /etc/udev/rules.d/80-thinkpad-T61.rules
KERNEL==dock.0, ATTR{docked}==1, RUN+=/usr/local/bin/dock.sh 1
KERNEL==dock.0, ATTR{docked}==0, RUN+=/usr/local/bin/dock.sh 0

# cat /usr/local/bin/dock.sh
#!/bin/sh

LOG=/tmp/dock.$$

echo Called dock.sh with $@, proceeding  ${LOG}

if [ $1 -eq 1 ]; then
  DISPLAY=:0.0
  export DISPLAY
  sudo -u ubuntu dbus-send --type=method_call --print-reply --session
--dest=org.gnome.SettingsDaemon /org/gnome/SettingsDaemon/XRANDR
org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.XRANDR.ApplyConfiguration 21  ${LOG}
fi

echo Done docking  ${LOG}

Is this path worth pursuing or is this approach out of question for fixing the
problem?

[Bug 850904] [NEW] Non-mirrored displays fails to align monitors, 'required virtual size does not fit available'

2011-09-15 Thread James Clemence
Public bug reported:

When using the gnome display config, I used to be able to have my
monitors in a non-mirrored display setup. However, now when I select the
non-mirrored variety, I get the following error:

'The selected configuration for displays could not be applied
required virtual size does not fit available size: requested=(2560, 1024),
minimum=(320,200), maximum(1280, 1280)'

This has always worked in the past, but now I can't have my dual monitor
setup side-by-side which is clearly a regression.

[Bug 850912] [NEW] Daily Please Add Me requests from robots can't be blocked

2011-09-15 Thread Edgar
Public bug reported:

Every day when I log in, I have anywhere between 15-20 robots asking me
to Please Add Me. I always say no (one at a time), and each request
window goes away as I would expect. However, the next day, as soon as I
log in, the exact same requests are there... again.

My belief is either empathy is not relaying my denial to the server, or
the requests are coming from robots which enqueue the exact same request
every night.

At least 15-20 of them are the exact same daily offenders. The list
only seems to be getting longer, with new names appearing around once a
week.

The offender requests are presently all coming in through the yahoo
messenger service.

Is there any way to block these? Or are we sure that empathy is sending
the permission denied response to the server?

Needless to say, this has become a really annoying 5 minute nuisance
every day.

We don't have that, but current upower has a property for this, and
libupower-glib exports it. So you can hook a callback to that signal
to run somethign whenever the docking status fails.

[Bug 821342] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_context_dispatch()

2011-09-15 Thread Lukasz Olszewski
WarriorIng64, if you can reproduce it then please install the nautilus-dbg
package and follow the steps described on ubuntu wiki page:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace
Please note that you can attach to the already running nautilus process and
work normally until this bug reoccurs. At this step it is crucial to get a good
backtrace of this one so your help will be very much appreciated.

[Bug 732867] Re: gnome-display-properties monitor layout not saved when re-docking (and display port)

2011-09-15 Thread Torsten Spindler
Unfortunately upower 0.9.1 on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS does not have
up_client_get_is_docked. The earliest upower that has it is in Natty.
Backporting this to Lucid seems like a task, due to dependencies:

dpkg-checkbuilddeps: Unmet build dependencies: debhelper (= 8)
libusb-1.0-0-dev (= 1.0.0) libimobiledevice-dev (= 0.9.7)
libgirepository1.0-dev (= 0.9.12) gobject-introspection (= 0.9.12-4~)

[Bug 851003] [NEW] Nautilus unable to mount external disks - says not authorized to admin user

2011-09-15 Thread Robbt
Public bug reported:

Basically after upgrading my beta of 11.10 today I am no longer able to
click on an external hard drive to mount it. This was working before
whatever updates came down 9/14-9/15. It says not authorized in the
bottom of the dialog after displaying the message Unable to Mount
Diskname. I have an administrator user account that is automatically
logged in. Shortly after logging in the keychain password dialog pops up
but this doesn't affect the ability to mount external hard drives.

1. Description: Ubuntu oneiric (development branch)
Release:11.10

2. nautilus:
  Installed: 1:3.1.90-0ubuntu3
  Candidate: 1:3.1.90-0ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 1:3.1.90-0ubuntu3 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3. I expected it to mount the external disks either automatically or when I
clicked on them through the nautilus interface.
4. It gave me the error above Unable to mount Diskname Not authorized.

Rebooting has had no affect on this.

[Bug 851015] [NEW] gnome-panel help missing command substitutions

2011-09-15 Thread Joe Harrington
Public bug reported:

Behavior:

When you click on an icon in the panel, a command gets executed. The
user can set this command in the Properties dialog box for the icon.
For the default firefox panel icon, it is firefox %u. The %u is a
command substitution of ...something. What? The help section 4.5.3.1
Launcher Commands and Locations should say, and it comes up when you
click on Help in the properties dialog box for the icon. However, no
% codes are documented here.

Desired behavior:

They should be.

Description:Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS
Release:10.04

gnome-panel:
  Installed: 1:2.30.2-0ubuntu0.2
  Candidate: 1:2.30.2-0ubuntu0.2
  Version table:
 *** 1:2.30.2-0ubuntu0.2 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-updates/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 1:2.30.0-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages

It may be that the documentation is in a different package, but they all
get updated together.

Clearly 10.04 isn't going to get updates for something like this, but
the change should be made in the current development version to improve
things going forward. It will take someone in the know about 15
minutes.

Thanks,
