[Bug 851587] [NEW] Icon aligment is just wrong and it's the first thing users see when they login

2011-09-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm not trying to maximize the issue, but icon alignment in the desktop
has been long time broken. I don't think anyone will actually leave
Ubuntu for this issue, but it's the first thing a user sees when he logs
in and it makes an horrendous first impression to see that icons just
don't align to cuadricle.

Icons in the desktop just don't align as they do inside Nautilus,
horizontally they are fine but vertically there is not alignment at all.

The resize icon feature is perfectly compatible with a correct icon
alignment. Please fix this!

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Incomplete

[Bug 737748] Re: Evolution Mail can't load the Imap e-mail from one account

2011-09-16 Thread Jan Newmarch
Accessing my gmail account from evolution using IMAP was fine until about a
month ago. I have no idea what I (or an upgrade) changed. My account has about
40,000 messages. Now evolution only loads the first 17,000, the latest dated
2007. Some more details:
- 2.32.2 reports 17,243 total, latest email 2007
- BUT 2.28.3 reports 47,916 and latest email today
- firefox to gmail.com reports 43,088 which is close enough to evolution 2.28.3

[Bug 851845] [NEW] Thumbnail view with unreasonable padding

2011-09-16 Thread klonuo
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I updated to Oneiric and noticed this issues with Evince [3.1.90.1]:

1. When I reopen same document, regardless my preferred saved view (two
pages, best fit, no continuous scroll) document is presented with one
page view, fit page width, continuous scrolling. So I have to change
complete view again on reopening

2. Thumbnail view is view very large horizontal padding, so if I want to
view two pages in a row I have to use 1/3 of my 1920x1080 monitor

3. Toolbar icons for Show the entire document and Show two pages at
once does not use stock icons

Issues 2 and 3 are new to Oneiric. Issue 1 was present also in Ubuntu
11.04 version

[Bug 840857] Re: Touchpad no longer working on Oneiric on Dell N3010

2011-09-16 Thread dart
Got the exact same problem on Dell Inspiron 15R. Touchpad works at login
screen only. The key mapped on keyboard for enabling/disabling touchpad
is Fn+A dedicated touchpad key.

However, I get notification of touchpad being enabled or disabled even
if I only hit touchpad key on keyboard (without holding FN key first).
All other dedicated keys for changing brightness and enabling/disabling
wireless etc. works only if they are pressed as a combination with Fn
key.

[Bug 827414] Re: gedit fails to start on first try, but does on the second

I can reproduce this quite easily:

1) Press Alt + F2, type gedit, press Enter
2) if gedit opens, close it
3) jump to 1)

It really works only every other time. The curious thing is that if I
kill unity-applications-daemon, and start it from the console, then the
Dash always succeeds in launching gedit.

[Bug 774203] Re: Brasero makes coasters when using the Burn Directly To Disk option

2011-09-16 Thread Bartek Celary
This bug has been reported months ago and nothing happened since. I'd
like to stress that Brasero is rubbish unless it JUST WORKS. I have just
made a few shiny coasters on a few PCs with Ubuntu (3 of them actually)
as I couldn't believe this could be a software fault... No one releases
burning software that is not capable of doing its main goal -- burning
discs! Why adding this functionality when it fails on every PC?

BTW, not sure if the disc writing facility integrated with Nautilus is
also backed up by Brasero but that also failed for me... All the
coasters are not recognized by the DVD reader on any PC (also checked
with Windows)...

[Bug 732867] Re: gnome-display-properties monitor layout not saved when re-docking (and display port)

2011-09-16 Thread Torsten Spindler
The attached python script utilizes pyudev (available from Natty onward)
to wait for docking events and then calls gnome-settings-daemon
ApplyConfiguration method. It's a slight improvement over the udev rules
hackery before. Would be interesting to hear if this approach resolves

[Bug 851986] [NEW] use of Ux in ubuntu-* abstractions and profiles is too lenient

2011-09-16 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Public bug reported:

Ux clears potentially harmful environment variables such as LD_PRELOAD
and LD_LIBRARY_PATH (and others). Because it doesn't clear out all
variables that can influence child processes, the confined parent
process may have too much influence over the child. When considering GUI
applications such as those based on gtk, child processes can also be
called with --gtk-module.

Since there are several applications in the ubuntu-specific abstractions
that can be affected in this manner, evince, firefox, the chromium
profile as included in apparmor-profiles and the ubuntu-specific
abstractions themselves should be adjusted to address this issue. Cups
is also affected because of its use of Ux with filters, however it runs
these filters as non-root and the environment under which these filters
is run is more tightly controlled. Cups should be investigated more and
we should consider confining (at least) those filters that we ship in
Ubuntu.

[Bug 22007] Re: no 'Settings' button in gnome-screensaver

2011-09-16 Thread Brian
@xfx:

This seems to work partially for me on:
$ uname -srvmo
Linux 2.6.35-30-generic #59-Ubuntu SMP Tue Aug 30 19:00:03 UTC 2011 x86_64
GNU/Linux

(Maverick Meerkat)

I have gnome-screensaver installed, and I also had to install gnome-
desktop-sharp2 after seeing an error referencing gnomedesktop-sharp
when I tried to run screensaver-settings from the terminal. Once I
installed gnome-desktop-sharp2 I was able to start screensaver-settings
from the terminal and the GUI interface seemed to work fully.

However, I set the time to activate the screensaver to 1 (minute?) and
did not see the screensaver activate. I tried both with and without
gnome-screensaver installed. Did not try with xscreensaver installed.
Also, the interface did not seem to get the cycle delay for randomly
chosen screensavers to stick. I have not done a reboot or log out/in.
Got work to do, can't interrupt that.

For now I am going back to xscreensaver, but thanks for the work you've
done on this. I think getting Canonical to help might be tough because
of Mono/C#. But certainly would be great to figure out what packages are
required for this to work, and a quick overview of installation/use
would help. I'd recommend setting up a vanilla VM under VirtualBox, for
example, and seeing what has to be done to get this working correctly.

Of course this bug still wouldn't be solved since gnome-screensaver
itself is forever completely broken, but at least there would be a
workaround.

[Bug 852021] [NEW] I should be able to define specific dictionaries within a server for use in gnome-dictionary

2011-09-16 Thread Yotam Benshalom
Public bug reported:

The default server of gnome-dictionary offers no less than ~70
dictionaries. It always brings results from all of them. This takes a
lot of time. I cannot even control the order of results, so I have to
search for a simple, useful definition in a lengthy page instead of just
having a handy dictionary.

See the attached image for a taste of the ridiculous current situation.

I need a way to tell dictionary which dictionaries to use (and, of
course, it should remember it).

[Bug 811761] Re: gvfsd-dav crashed with SIGSEGV in g_vfs_backend_get_daemon()

2011-09-16 Thread Sam_
Actually getting different errors when unmounting different webdav in Nautilus.
Different outcome but same procedures here.
The other error is Bug #811049 where my dupe again either says:
gvfsd-cdda crashed with SIGSEGV in g_vfs_job_try()
or leading me here.

[Bug 852082] Re: cannot select medium to burn on

2011-09-16 Thread Ralf Hildebrandt
I found out that burning does indeed work, even if the GUI won't show the
medium as selected.
Confusing, but at least it's working...
