[Bug 851587] [NEW] Icon aligment is just wrong and it's the first thing users see when they login
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'm not trying to maximize the issue, but icon alignment in the desktop has been long time broken. I don't think anyone will actually leave Ubuntu for this issue, but it's the first thing a user sees when he logs in and it makes an horrendous first impression to see that icons just don't align to cuadricle. Icons in the desktop just don't align as they do inside Nautilus, horizontally they are fine but vertically there is not alignment at all. The resize icon feature is perfectly compatible with a correct icon alignment. This bug has been reported months ago and nothing happened since. I'd like to stress that Brasero is rubbish unless it JUST WORKS. [Bug 851986] [NEW] use of Ux in ubuntu-* abstractions and profiles is too lenient
Public bug reported: Ux clears potentially harmful environment variables such as LD_PRELOAD and LD_LIBRARY_PATH (and others). Because it doesn't clear out all variables that can influence child processes, the confined parent process may have too much influence over the child. When considering GUI applications such as those based on gtk, child processes can also be called with --gtk-module. Since there are several applications in the ubuntu-specific abstractions that can be affected in this manner, evince, firefox, the chromium profile as included in apparmor-profiles and the ubuntu-specific abstractions themselves should be adjusted to address this issue. Cups is also affected because of its use of Ux with filters, however it runs these filters as non-root and the environment under which these filters is run is more tightly controlled. Cups should be investigated more and we should consider confining (at least) those filters that we ship in Ubuntu. ** Affects: apparmor (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Assignee: Jamie Strandboge (jdstrand) Status: In Progress ** Affects: cups (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Affects: evince (Ubuntu) Importance: High Assignee: Jamie Strandboge (jdstrand) Status: In Progress ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Assignee: Jamie Strandboge (jdstrand) Status: Triaged ** Affects: apparmor (Ubuntu Oneiric) Importance: Medium Assignee: Jamie Strandboge (jdstrand) Status: In Progress ** Affects: cups (Ubuntu Oneiric) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Affects: evince (Ubuntu Oneiric) Importance: High Assignee: Jamie Strandboge (jdstrand) Status: In Progress ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu Oneiric) Importance: Medium Assignee: Jamie Strandboge (jdstrand) Status: Triaged ** Also affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: evince (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: cups (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: apparmor (Ubuntu Oneiric) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: cups (Ubuntu Oneiric) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: evince (Ubuntu Oneiric) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: firefox (Ubuntu Oneiric) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - use of Ux in ubuntu-* abstractions and evince is too lenient + use of Ux in ubuntu-* abstractions and profiles is too lenient ** Changed in: apparmor (Ubuntu Oneiric) Milestone: None = ubuntu-11.10-beta-2 ** Changed in: evince (Ubuntu Oneiric) Milestone: None = ubuntu-11.10-beta-2 ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu Oneiric) Milestone: None = ubuntu-11.10-beta-2 ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu Oneiric) Assignee: (unassigned) = Jamie Strandboge (jdstrand) ** Changed in: evince (Ubuntu Oneiric) Assignee: (unassigned) = Jamie Strandboge (jdstrand) ** Changed in: apparmor (Ubuntu Oneiric) Assignee: (unassigned) = Jamie Strandboge (jdstrand) ** Changed in: apparmor (Ubuntu Oneiric) Status: New = In Progress ** Changed in: evince (Ubuntu Oneiric) Status: New = In Progress ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu Oneiric) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: evince (Ubuntu Oneiric) Status: In Progress = Confirmed ** Changed in: evince (Ubuntu Oneiric) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu Oneiric) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: apparmor (Ubuntu Oneiric) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: evince (Ubuntu Oneiric) Status: Confirmed = In Progress ** Changed in: cups (Ubuntu Oneiric) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/851986 Title: use of Ux in ubuntu-* abstractions and profiles is too lenient To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/851986/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 22007] Re: no 'Settings' button in gnome-screensaver
@xfx: This seems to work partially for me on: $ uname -srvmo Linux 2.6.35-30-generic #59-Ubuntu SMP Tue Aug 30 19:00:03 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux (Maverick Meerkat) I have gnome-screensaver installed, and I also had to install gnome- desktop-sharp2 after seeing an error referencing gnomedesktop-sharp when I tried to run screensaver-settings from the terminal. Once I installed gnome-desktop-sharp2 I was able to start screensaver-settings from the terminal and the GUI interface seemed to work fully. However, I set the time to activate the screensaver to 1 (minute?) and did not see the screensaver activate. I tried both with and without gnome-screensaver installed. Did not try with xscreensaver installed. Also, the interface did not seem to get the cycle delay for randomly chosen screensavers to stick. I have not done a reboot or log out/in. Got work to do, can't interrupt that. For now I am going back to xscreensaver, but thanks for the work you've done on this. I think getting Canonical to help might be tough because of Mono/C#. But certainly would be great to figure out what packages are required for this to work, and a quick overview of installation/use would help. I'd recommend setting up a vanilla VM under VirtualBox, for example, and seeing what has to be done to get this working correctly. Of course this bug still wouldn't be solved since gnome-screensaver itself is forever completely broken, but at least there would be a workaround. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/22007 Title: no 'Settings' button in gnome-screensaver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-screensaver/+bug/22007/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 852021] [NEW] I should be able to define specific dictionaries within a server for use in gnome-dictionary
