[Bug 742544] Re: Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups

2011-10-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Re: The permanent workaround...
1. It is only expected to work on Ubuntu 11.04 natty. Andrea's comments suggest
the same workaround won't work on Ubuntu 11.10 oneiric.
2. You need to make sure the change to monitors.xml is still there. Sometimes
it gets overwritten when you log out and in again.

If no one else has this bug in progress after 11.10 is released, I will
do it myself. With a configuration option, or something, to allow you to
put the launcher on the primary screen, or default to the left-hand
screen.

[Bug 864494] [NEW] Wrong preview image in the file open dialog.

2011-10-02 Thread moma
Public bug reported:

Hello,
File open dialog seems to display wrong preview image in some cases.
Please study this video:
http://www.futuredesktop.com/tmp/file-open-test.ogv

You can reproduce this issue with:
1) Open the program for change-desktop-background (appearance dialog).

2) Click the [+] button and browse to Test/ images.

3) In the file open dialog, press b letter to browse just the images
that start with b. This is important, ok?

4) Now use arrow-keys to move from one bimage* to another. The preview
image is wrong.

Notice: I could only produce this when I restricted the search with a
letter or word, and then used arrow-keys to jump jump to next/previous
file.

2011-10-02 Thread Attila Hammer
Because my desktop machine have similar issue with an Nvidia integrated
soundcard related, I looked again what volume meters are muted default
when I booted with Ubuntu 10.04.3 live CD my desktop machine.
The results is very similar with I experienced the Intel N10 soundcard
related.
I only doed following:
1. After the desktop presented my screen, I opened GNOME Terminal, and
ran amixer sound1.txt command to store original mixer values with a
text file.
2. I launch Sound preference tool, and uncheck only the mute check box,
not increased volume meters.
3. I ran again with amixer sound2.txt command to generate new changed
volume meters with an another text file.
4. I ran diff -u sound1.txt sound2.txt command to generate a diff style
output what volume meters status are changed from off to on after I
unchecked the mute checkbox in Sound preference tool.

I attaching the sound1.txt, sound2.txt, and
sound-volumes-differences.txt files.
To easyest your work, I copyed diff output:

When I ran amixer set 'LFE',0 on command, I hear sound again, because my

[Bug 864505] [NEW] [Oneiric] Cannot setup dual monitor with AMD 5870

2011-10-02 Thread Tony Mugan
Public bug reported:

When I try to setup the dual screen for a Radeon 5870 in Gnome, I cannot get it
to change from a mirrored setup using
gnome-control-center display

It gives me an error dialog saying
The selected configuration for displays could not be applied
requested position/size for CRTC 148 is outside the allowed limit:
position=(1680, 0), size=(1680, 1050), maximum=(1920, 1920)

The same maximum is shown with xrandr as shown below.

Also, I have another similar issue raised for Unity and radeon driver (not sure
if it's related)

To check if it was hardware related, I have just swapped out the video
card for a 5770 and have found the same issues.

The same dialog pops up when running Unity-2D and trying to set the
Displays app to extend the desktop across both monitors.

[Bug 207583] Re: [hardy, oneiric] Two instances of applet icon are displayed in notification area

2011-10-02 Thread Marcel Stimberg
You can check your setting with:
  $ gsettings get com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist
The default values are:
  ['JavaEmbeddedFrame', 'Wine', 'scp-dbus-service', 'Update-notifier']
In my case this had been changed to ['all']
If you have it installed, you can also use dconf-editor to check/set the value.

I followed a blog post like this back then:
http://www.webupd8.org/2011/04/how-to-re-enable-notification-area.html

[Bug 864575] [NEW] Evolution crashes when adding multiple IMs to a contact

2011-10-02 Thread Simon Eilting
Public bug reported:

When I add multiple different IMs to an evolution contact, it kinda-
sorta-crashes... my X session: The whole desktop becomes unresponsive. I
can move the mouse cursor and switch desktops, but that's about it.

When I log in remotely or via another virtual terminal and kill (-15)
evolution, everything switches back to normal.

This is on Ubuntu 11.04, with evolution 2.32.2-0ubuntu7.

I can reproduce this bug in a completely virgin user profile.

Steps to reproduce:
Open Evolution Contacts. Add new Contact. In the Contact Editor, enter a name
(Joe Software Guy), an Instant Messaging contact (Jabber:
joesoft@thisoneserver), then add another Instant Messaging contact of a
different service type (ICQ: 123456789). Click OK.

What I expected to happen: Contact Editor closes, new contact in address
book.

What happened instead: Evolution crashes. This time, I can kill it via
WM controls. If I open Evolution again I see the new contact in the
address book. If I click on it, Evolution crashes my X session.

Ideas on how to delete contacts without clicking on them would also be
greatly appreciated right now. ;)

[Bug 862287] Re: [Lucid] Front, Surround, LFE, and Center volume meters are default muted with 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01) sound

2011-10-02 Thread Attila Hammer
Hy,

Please review this patch.
I generated a custom Ubuntu 10.04.3 live CD with containing the patched
alsa-utils script in /sbin directory.
When I booted this custom live CD, my desktop machine Nvidia soundcard is not
muted by default (see bug 564472 for details). I am absolute sure this patch
will resolve the mute problem for this Intel N10 soundcard too.
I added both the Intel N10 soundcard experienced muted channels and the Nvidia
soundcard experienced muted channels with the patch.

I have got a question if you accept this type fix with final patch and perhaps
commit this fix Lucid and Oneiric branch:
What method are better to fix this problem? Use the switch_control method to
only switch the muted status from off to on, or use the unmute_and_set_level
method this new channels and setting for example with a 80% volume value?

Attila

[Bug 864505] Re: [Oneiric] Cannot setup dual monitor with AMD 5870

2011-10-02 Thread Tony Mugan
Ok, I have a dual boot on this machine.
Both partitions have Oneiric running with fglrx driver now installed.

I have not installed Ubuntu updates on the second partition and the environment
is working better.
I only just updated the linux kernel to 3.0.0-12, confirmed no change, then
fglrx to 2:8.881-0ubuntu3, again confirmed no change.
Finally upgraded compiz to 1:0.9.6+bzr20110929-0ubuntu1.

Compiz crashes when I try to set the dual monitors up in amdcccle but
the desktop does appear altered after it recovers from that crash.

the same as the 1680x1050 monitor and then repeats (as if tiled).

If I run amdcccle, I can fix them to run at their preferred resolutions
and the desktop is redrawn correctly but will always revert when I
restart.

[Bug 864644] [NEW] Nautilus fails to launch when added to Startup Applications

2011-10-02 Thread quadra
Public bug reported:

I would like Nautilus to open after I login, so I added the command
nautilus in my Startup applications.

However no Nautilus window appears, while the exact same command works well
from a terminal.
I also tried nautilus --browser, same story.

WORKAROUND: We need to add a dot (or any other path): nautilus
--browser .

It's true that according to the manual (man nautilus), there is a URI
parameter which seems to be mandatory. However, why should it be
mandatory? And if it is, why does the command nautilus (without URI)
work from the terminal? I think this is inconsistent, and it could
easily be fixed.

[Bug 28177] Re: [totem-gstreamer] AC3 pass-through option not selectable

2011-10-02 Thread madbiologist
The pulseaudio part of this bug has been fixed in Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric
Ocelot thanks to the update to pulseaudio 1:1.0-0ubuntu1.

Currently, the only client to support passthrough output is the
GStreamer PulseAudio plugin. This will be available in the next release
(0.10.31) of gst-plugins-good. Once this is installed, you should be
able to have passthrough output just work with Totem and most other
players that use playbin2.

See http://pulseaudio.org/wiki/Passthrough for more info on passthrough
configuration.

[Bug 864479] Re: System goes to hibernate or suspend even when set to Don't suspend

2011-10-02 Thread 3vi1
Confirming here. I noticed my desktop system had done this last night.
I booted it up and was away for a couple of hours to find it had
hibernated again.

I checked my settings and they were set to Don't Suspend. The When
power is critically low dropdown setting was showing a blank value, as
if neither Hibernate nor Shutdown were selected.

I changed the values in both boxes, then moved them back to Don't
suspend and Hibernate, to see if this is just a misreading of legacy
settings by some update of the program. I'll let this system sit for a
couple of hours now to see if it worked.

[Bug 814799] Re: It is possible to create a new tab on the desktop window with Ctrl + T

The 'CTRL+T' shortcut still opens new tab and makes it very confusing
(for newcomers). That's with Nautilus 1:3.2.0-0ubuntu5. It should be
noted that this behaviour doesn't break the desktop, because you can
close that new tab (just right click on it and you will see close tab
option).

[Bug 864775] [NEW] rhythmbox does not remove tracks from playlist if the file has been removed

2011-10-02 Thread isotope
Public bug reported:

Rhythmbox is unable to remove tracks from playlist if the actual file is
removed.

How it happened:
I had a playlist created from files. I had moved those files to different
location. Then I tried to remove them from playlist: nothing happened, no
errors, but tracks were still in the playlist. I had to delete whole playlist.
Then I created new playlist, dragged files in it, tried to delete them from
playlist and succeeded.

If one wants to remove tracks from playlist, rhythmbox should do it even
if physical file is moved/renamed/deleted.

isotope
