[Bug 865056] [NEW] system thinks battery is critically low and goes to hibernation

2011-10-03 Thread Tuukka Hastrup
Public bug reported:

I suspended and resumed the system with fully charged battery. Right
after resume, the system decided to hibernate. When I resumed again, I
could see the dialog Power - Laptop battery critically low - The
battery is below the critical level and this computer is about to
hibernate. Now, the power management settings show battery discharging
with 1:48 (80%) left.

Perhaps related: gnome-power-statistics shows two battery entries where
the second one is battery_BAT2 with type unknown. At some point, I saw
this one in the battery indicator and as the primary battery even though
the real battery had charge left.

ProblemType: Bug

RE: [Bug 862983] Re: installer crashed and (errno5) input/output error

2011-10-03 Thread Gonzalo Hernandez
Thanks for your attention.
I found the culprit of these errors: installation disc was damaged. I reinstall
Ubuntu using a new cd. The fix was very simple but took me 5 day and 4 nights
found the culprit.
Since today no more Windows in my pc. Thanks Linux developers.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 865082] [NEW] gnome-terminal writes to /tmp on every line of output

2011-10-03 Thread Roman Yepishev
Public bug reported:

STR:

1. Start xterm
2. Run python -mpyinotify /tmp
3. Start gnome-terminal.
4. Run some command like ls

Actual Results:

Observe a ton of IN_MODIFY lines such as
Event dir=False mask=0x2 maskname=IN_MODIFY name=vteD7DX2V path=/tmp
pathname=/tmp/vteD7DX2V wd=1
Event dir=False mask=0x2 maskname=IN_MODIFY name=vte1XDX2V path=/tmp

pathname=/tmp/vteD7DX2V wd=1
Event dir=False mask=0x2 maskname=IN_MODIFY name=vte1XDX2V path=/tmp
pathname=/tmp/vte1XDX2V wd=1

Or, when idle -
Event dir=False mask=0x1 maskname=IN_ACCESS name=vteGFOF2V path=/tmp
pathname=/tmp/vteGFOF2V wd=1
Event dir=False mask=0x1 maskname=IN_ACCESS name=vteI7NF2V path=/tmp

pathname=/tmp/vteGFOF2V wd=1

This looks like vte code storing something. According to this question -
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1830432,
Sometimes vte creates temporary files which contains a copy of the whole
scrollback buffer, [...].

Expected results:
Nothing is being written to this dir at this rate by gnome-terminal.

I have a quadcore desktop, it seems like telling the screen saver never
to come on starts it fading out as soon as I stop moving the mouse as
well... perhaps there's something broken in common.

Re: [Bug 774008] Re: ABC iView Flashplayer file blacking out on playback

2011-10-03 Thread Michael E Granat
Well, I just uninstalled / reinstalled flashplugin-installer using the
software centre to be sure, then restarted the PC, logged in then ran
media player by itself. Sound was fine as before but, also as before, an
image is only available for a fraction of a second if I drag to move
then drop the media player window. As an alternative, I recently
installed VLC media player, which works fine. As for attaching the
output of lspci -vvnn - not being a regular UNIX shell user, I am unsure
how to do that for you. Please advise and I shall be happy to assist
further.

Given that you think this is caused by the new video driver in Ubuntu

gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep-inactive-

[Bug 864573] Re: Previewing inkscape files crashes nautilus

2011-10-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 605138] Re: Inconsistency in the ways in which the seek functionality is implemented in Totem

2011-10-03 Thread Timothy Arceri
As mentioned upstream this in intended functionality.

From the FAQ:

Q: Why does seeking with the keyboard keys (Left and Right arrow) in Totem not
seek the same amount of time in either direction?
A: This is on purpose. To find a particular point in a film, most people will
seek forward and then realise that they've gone too far. Seeking back, if it
used the same amount of time, would mean going back to where they last seeked
from. You can experiment with pressing Ctrl or Shift along with the arrows to
seek further, or closer (respectively).

[Bug 864995] Re: gnome-control-center crashed with

I think there are two issues here: First, the message isn’t very useful
without the action hint or additional information in the case actions
are not available.

But second, why is the notification sent at all? It seems that no
password is actually required, since the accounts do connect properly.

That Xorg.0.log indicates that you don't actually have the ati driver

[Bug 864505] Re: [Oneiric] Cannot setup dual monitor with AMD 5870

When you're using the open-source Radeon drivers, the xrandr output:

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1050, maximum 1920 x 1920

indicates that you're using the userspace-modesetting codpaths, rather than
kernel modesetting. This is either a result of you passing “nomodeset” to the
kernel, or some breakage somewhere.

[Bug 856312] Re: Cant set resolution with two monitors

This would appear to be a bug in fglrx's XRandR support. You should be
able to make this work with the AMD control centre, though, as a work
around.

[Bug 865194] Re: Nautilus segfault (nautilus-open-terminal)
