[Bug 869736] [NEW] dragging languages in system settings / language support doesn't always work
Public bug reported: If I select System Settings and language support, it should be possible to select one of the installed languages and drag it up and down in the list (as the dialog directs you to do). However, this never works for me when I first open the language support window. If I switch to other windows or tabs and back again, sometimes dragging starts to work, but I can't see a repeatable pattern. In case it's relevant, when I first start language support it says that some packages are not installed (specifically, the South African English support for LibreOffice, libreoffice-za, which I don't want because I don't have English (South African) installed so I tell it to remind me later). [Bug 869795] [NEW] Gnome session starts with maximum sound level
Public bug reported: On Dell Inspiron 9300, Oneiric beta (all updates as of 2011/10/07) the Ubuntu Gnome session starts with sound volume to the max, producing a tremendously loud session opening jingle. Lowering volume, logging out and rebooting, the problem is back (set volume isn't remembered). This doesn't happen in KDE sessions on same machine. (As a safeguard I would request that no opening sound should ever be produced with a volume set higher than a reasonable default... Figure a laptop with good loudspeakers opening with a TREMENDOUSLY LOUD sound in a meeting room, train, whatever...) = Same issue also seen on another machine (Compaq Mini) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: gnome-session 3.2.0-0ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-12.19-generic 3.0.4 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-12-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu2 Architecture: i386 Date: Fri Oct 7 09:56:00 2011 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx - Release i386 (20100429) PackageArchitecture: all ProcEnviron: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gnome-session UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to oneiric on 2011-10-06 (0 days ago) ** Affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 oneiric running-unity -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/869795 Title: Gnome session starts with maximum sound level To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/869795/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 869793] [NEW] Nautilus is very slow when opening folders with many files
Public bug reported: Opening folders with many files takes a long time with Nautilus, to the point it becomes unusable for folders with more than 5K files. I've measured the time it takes for folders with different amount of files to open with Nautilus and Gnome Commander. It is ~6 times faster with GC on average. In folders with ~20K files, it takes 30s with nautilus versus 6! with GC. With Nautilus ~3500 files tales 6 seconds ~7000 files takes 18 seconds ~15000 files takes 22 seconds ~2 files takes 30 seconds With Gnome Commander ~3500 files tales 1 second ~7000 files takes 1.5 seconds ~15000 files takes 3 seconds ~2 files takes 6 seconds These are mostly small dicom files (MRI images). I am using a 8 core 3.4Ghz and 16Gigs of RAM with Ubuntu 11.04 64-bits. Also, of course, things like selecting all files and copying them around is absurdly slow and makes nautilus unusable... but that would be another bug report (?). ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/869793 Title: Nautilus is very slow when opening folders with many files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/869793/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 869341] Re: On Asus eeePC 900 I cannot register my Google account
Found the cause of the problem: While installing debug symbols for gnome-control-center I ran dpkg -p gnome-control-center and saw that it recommends gnome-online-accounts. Then I checked on all my three Oneiric boxes whether gnome-online-accounts is installed. On the machines where I succeeded to register my Google account gnome- online-accounts is installed on the machine where I did not succeed it is not installed. So I did sudo apt-get install gnome-online-accounts and after completing the installation I could register my Google account. So the bug is now the following: gnome-control-center offers a user interface to register a Google account, even if the backend to do the actual registration is not installed. It should get fixed by one of the following three possibilities: 1. gnome-control-center should depend on gnome-online-accounts and not only recommend it. 2. gnome-control-center should not show the Online Accounts icon if gnome-online-accounts is not installed (perhaps one could move this module completely into the gnome-online-accounts package). 3. gnome-control-center should ask the user to install gnome-online- accounts when clicking the Online Accounts icon if the package is not installed yet. If the user accepts installing it, the Online Accounts UI will be shown so that the user can register his account(s). If he declines installing it gnome-control-center should return to its main (icon) screen. It is really not a good usability to show a UI whose backend is not present and simply ignore the user's login input without showing any message. I appreciate a fix very much at least as a zero-day SRU. ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Milestone: None = oneiric-updates ** Also affects: gnome-online-accounts (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: gnome-online-accounts (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: gnome-online-accounts (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: gnome-online-accounts (Ubuntu) Milestone: None = oneiric-updates ** Summary changed: - On Asus eeePC 900 I cannot register my Google account + Online Accounts icon and UI appears when gnome-online-accounts package is not installed, ignoring user's registration input. ** Summary changed: - Online Accounts icon and UI appears when gnome-online-accounts package is not installed, ignoring user's registration input. + Online Accounts icon and UI appears in g-c-c when gnome-online-accounts package is not installed, ignoring user's registration input. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/869341 Title: Online Accounts icon and UI appears in g-c-c when gnome-online- accounts package is not installed, ignoring user's registration input.
