[Bug 742544] Re: Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups
To clarify, in 11.04 this was only a bug in gnome-control-center. Because the Gnome Displays panel gave the user no way to select the primary monitor in Gnome 2.x In Ubuntu 11.10, the gnome-control-center issue was partially resolved, giving the user a black bar to drag around representing the primary monitor. However Ubuntu 11.10 also regressed with respect to Unity because Unity no longer honours the primary monitor setting even if it is set. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/742544 Title: Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/742544/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 742544] Re: Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups
I have tagged this regression-release, but it is a regression in 11.10 with respect to Unity only. ** Tags added: regression-release ** Description changed: + WORKAROUND FOR 11.10: + + None available right now. + WORKAROUND FOR 11.04: There are two ways to configure the primary monitor in Ubuntu 11.04... Permanent workaround (requires logging back in again): Edit ~/.config/monitors.xml, find the monitor you want the launcher to display on and change: primaryno/primary to: primaryyes/primary Now log out and log in again. Temporary workaround (no logout required): Open a Terminal window and... 1. Run xrandr to find the NAME of the output you would like to make primary. 2. Run: xrandr --output NAME --primary nohup unity --replace ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: Binary package hint: unity In my particular configuration I have an external monitor hooked up to my laptop on the left of the laptop display. The unity bar is ending up on the laptop display though making it in the middle of the two monitors. This makes it quite difficult to activate the bar with a full screen application open on the laptop (hitting the upper left pixel of that monitor without going over). I think it would make more sense to make it configurable which monitor the bar ends up on, or at least look at the orientation of the monitors when determining where to put the bar. [Bug 620331] Re: Keyboard menu title needlessly has both icon and label
I also keep having this same problem over and over. After Oneiric new install, the solution from Karl on #41 did not work this time.I also use ibus for Japanese Language input which has the same keyboard icon, so I had 2 identical keyboard icons. I looked for another fix and I found it on: http://www.webupd8.org/2011/05/how-to-remove-keyboard-indicator- icon.htmlIt looks like a quick finx. The result is that instead of having a keyboard icon with a name, I have only have two letters: jp for Japanese and es for spanish. It looks nice and narrow and clean. [Bug 41994] Re: closed Laptop Lid to reliably keep Backlight off
I have noticed this problem also, since I got my laptop back on Ubuntu 10.10, and it is still a problem on 11.10. The only difference is I am not giving it any input, it wakes up on it's own. I remember back in 10.10, with a friend, we tried to debug the problem. We first looked at some logs, whenever the screen turned back on, there was a message something like, X no longer idle. The only reason my friend could think of, for the X server to not be idle is that it received some input. So, we ran the program which shows any input received (might have been xev?), and tested again, but this showed that the system was not receiving any input. So, we were unable to work out why X is would stop being idle (and turn the screen back on). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/41994 Title: closed Laptop Lid to reliably keep Backlight off To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell/+bug/41994/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 727928] Re: Upon starting a program full screen, the window is immediately moved to the wrong monitor
I tried to reproduce the problem with the live CD of Oneiric Ocelot, but since the open source NVidia driver in there does not support multiple cards, I can't. It also did not allow me to install the proprietary NVidia driver. Even if it did, I doubt that I would be able to reproduce the bug since it now forces you to use Unity, which I'm sure uses a different window manager. ** Changed in: metacity (Ubuntu) Status: Expired = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/727928 Title: Upon starting a program full screen, the window is immediately moved to the wrong monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/727928/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
