[Bug 879793] Re: No GTK theme applied on login, should be Ambiance

2011-10-25 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Reproducing the bug was easier than I expected. Just had to log out and
in a few times.

xsession-errors does show some gnome-settings-daemon errors when the bug
occurred.

[Bug 881257] [NEW] brasero doesn't burn

2011-10-25 Thread donny qiu
Public bug reported:

I'm using ubuntu 11.10 on dell inspiron 4030 intel architecture, i've
tried several times using brasero since 10.10 and it seems burning on
ubuntu is never a choice.

The burning process is going fine, i selected the minimum speed 10x for
data cd option then after the burning process completed, the app tried
ejecting the cd tray and the error message appeared stating i need to
eject the tray, when i ejected the tray, another message appeared saying
the burning process is not finished(somehow i forgot the response
message but it's something like that), and when i ejected the cd tray
and reinserted it hoping that the autoplay appears and load the file, in
fact, nothing happened and when i checked the cd, there's no track seen
on the cd!!

[Bug 879793] Re: No GTK theme applied on login, should be Ambiance

2011-10-25 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Reproduced the bug again after about 5 more attempts. The common factor
when the bug occurs is this message:

(gnome-settings-daemon:2108): Gdk-WARNING **: The program
'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 1265 error_code 8 request_code 3 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Bug 881263] [NEW] Nautilus and desktop icons change theme to gray after closing Opera browser

2011-10-25 Thread dove_g
Public bug reported:

This bug is tested with clean installation of Ubuntu 11.10 x86 and also
64bit. Without any additional software, no additional GFX drivers, clean
install with added Opera browser.

After using of Opera browser for 10-30 minutes, and after closing Opera,
Nautilus icons, desktop icons and desktop font colors are changed. Nautilus get
gray theme, it seems like all icons are gray and all icons looks the same. As
empty paper gray icon.
Also toolbar of Nautilus get changed to gray.

This happens unexpectedly and unpredictably. One thing is certain that
after using Opera for some time and turning off the Opera this will
definitely happen. I also try to not use Opera software for whole day
and then this problem never occur.

Adter that I also install PCManFM. This app stay unchanged, only Nautilus
change theme.

This bug was also confirmed in one forum by other user, also in
combination with latest Ubuntu 11.10 and latest Opera browser.

Thank you.

You are getting a different error though:

(gnome-settings-daemon:2034): Gdk-WARNING **: The program

This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'XI_BadDevice (invalid Device parameter)'.

Where in my case it's:

[Bug 786317] Re: wacom intuous3 often fails to draw stroke (release click not recognised?)

2011-10-25 Thread Andrew Kay
I'll have to get back to you on these. I'm still using gimp 2.6, mainly
out of cowardice.

meanwhile, I don't know the difference between gnome gnome shell ubuntu
classic unity compiz metacity
-- some of them are window managers, some are something else. It's confusing
and I haven't seen anything that clearly explains what is what or the official
way to choose between them in ubuntu. I followed some instructions, but I
don't know now whether I have gnome or gnome shell...

regards
Andrew

The keyboard applet in gnome-classic does not show the current layout, just as

[Bug 877456] Re: Who cares about num lock?

2011-10-25 Thread Michael Wild
I agree, I *never* use the numpad for its cursor keys. It's a numpad
after all. And seeing that warning I always first think capslock is on.

BTW: Now it seems that also lightDM, ssh-add and gpg-agent seem to be
affected by this, which becomes really annoying (but also possibly
simpler to fix, since it appears that this is a GTK+ issue rather than
an issue of the individual applications).

[Bug 673151] Re: gvfsd-gphoto2 when downloading a file from camera loads entire file into memory first, doesn't write it onto hdd simultaneously

2011-10-25 Thread Nikke
I am experiencing the same issue on Ubuntu 11.10 with gvfs
1.10.0-0ubuntu1 and libgphoto2-2 version 2.4.11-3.

I am trying to copy about 7Gb of photos and video clips from a camera
via USB to an external USB HDD using cut/paste in Nautilus. gvfs-gphoto2
consumes about 2Gb of memory (2.6 Gb VIRT and 1.9Gb RES accoring to
top). This also means its diggin into the swap space (about 1.5Gb of
swap is used). The system grinds to a virtual halt, and Nautilus
crashed twice during the operation forcing me to restart the copying

Cheers

[Bug 558674] Re: Open file dialog malfunctions in lucid

2011-10-25 Thread JaumeFigueras
I agree with user Pausanias. The bug is still present in LTS 10.04 and
there are 3 and 1/2 more years of life cicle for this LTS. If you wont
fix the bug, at least upgrade to gtk2.22 where the bug is solved.

The answer 'please update your machine' in a LTS environment is not
admissible. This answer is like a 'problems winth vista?, buy win7'
absolutely useless.

[Bug 742544] Re: Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups

I have an nvidia card and the one-liner patch worked fine. I applied it later

I used the nvidia-settings tool, set up twinview and selected my screen on the
right hand side to be primary. I saved it the xorg.conf, restarted and worked.
Applying the settings without saving the xorg.conf and restart does not work

Re: [Bug 786317] Re: wacom intuous3 often fails to draw stroke (release click not recognised?)

2011-10-25 Thread Christopher Small
Gimp 2.7.3 has been great to me. It has some AWESOME new features,
especially for tablet users. Biggest on my list is a really amazing mapping
matrix. You can check mappings and draw out graphs outlining the interaction
between the effects. A lot of people are apparently pretty excited about the
single window mode (I could care less, but whatever). I was reluctant to
jump in on it, but I have had zero problems with it so far (and have been
using, at least here and there, for a couple months).

There is definitely quite a soup of technologies going around here. I'll try
to help clarify to the best of my understanding (someone correct me if I'm
wrong). Gnome is a desktop environment. Up till now, most distros have been
using Gnome 2. However, Gnome 3 is now in action, and there are some great
new features that come along with it. It has been designed to be more
flexible and modular, as well as modern (from a technical perspective).
Gnome Shell is a desktop environment built on top of Gnome 3 (it can be
thought of as a shell around it), and does so in order to bring a more
modern flavor/experience (think moving in the same general direction as
Unity, but along a different route). Unity too is now built on Gnome 3 (as
of Ocelot -- if I'm not mistaken). Ubuntu Classic was what came up when
trying to switch desktop versions to the non-unity Gnome when logging into
Ubuntu on 11.4. This interface is also called Gnome Panel, and is now
basically the fallback for Gnome when Gnome Shell cannot be loaded.

Both Metacity and Compiz are window managers. One of the most fundamental
distinctions is that Compiz is a compositing window manager, which basically
means that it can take advantage of graphics cards and such in order to
produce all kinds of effects quickly. Unity is effectively based on compiz.
Gnome did use Metacity by default, but now uses Mutter (built on Clutter)
for the Gnome Shell. I'm not sure if in Fallback/Panel mode it still uses
Metacity or not.

Bottom line - to install gnome shell and the classic gnome do the
following

sudo apt-get install gnome-shell
sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback

You should then have the Gnome Shell and Gnome Panel options when you click
the little gear on logging into Ubuntu.

Best

Chris

 Title:
wacom intuous3 often fails to draw stroke (release click not
  recognised?)

Status in “gimp” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

 Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gimp

It appears that sometimes when the pen is lifted a button up command is
 somehow not sent to gimp.
This is new in Natty (it all worked beautifully in Maverick)

  gimp 2.6.11,
  ubuntu natty
  Wacom intuous3 6x8

  To reproduce:
make sure you have selected wacom as extended input device. Press P to
 paint.
Make a stroke. Very often (but not always) at the end of the stroke when
the pen is lifted the paint cursor remains at the end of the stroke and does
not follow the pointer. It's necessary to click again (anywhere, or with
any button) to get the cursor following the pointer again before you can
draw another stroke. This makes gimp unusable.

[Bug 881340] [NEW] master volume does not work with snd-hda-intel on HP Elite 8200

2011-10-25 Thread Beastyvoid
Public bug reported:

When changing the volume Up and Down in Ubuntu 11.10 oneiric, the audio volume
does not change at all.
If you, for example use KWin (or alsamixer) to lower the Master volume from
100% to 0%, the volume does not decrease at all, until it reaches 0%. There it
is muted. Alsamixer, Kwin, volume button, they all make the same behaviour. It
is probably a gstreamer problem, or parameter for the kernel module
snd-hda-intel.

If you change the volume of the PCM output sound in alsamixer, it works,
reflecting the actual value. But master volume doesn't.

This shouldn't be unity dealing with that, but either nautilus shipping
the desktop file as a SRU (but this won't f(?ix the case for precise)
and special casing this in glib (?) to handle the removed desktop file.

[Bug 876788] Re: Many users upgrading from 11.04 or eariler will be unable to open trash; flash drives if using Classic session places in nautilus

2011-10-25 Thread Didier Roche
ok, after having a serious look, it seems to me that GNOME dropped it in
nautilus 3 because they don't support anymore the nautilus showing desktop
mode and so don't need a .desktop file running nautilus --no-desktop.
Anyway, it seems that just running nautilus %U do the right thing this option
on or off and exit nautilus when it's needed, so I think we should just use the
nautilus desktop file again for this mimetype. (and transition people to it)

[Bug 881376] [NEW] Low disk space warning popping up repeatedly.

2011-10-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot.
Since that upgrade, I repeatedly get the warning

Low Disk Space
The volume ... has only [..] MB disk space remaining.
This is for a few Windows partitions on a multiboot machine, which I mount by
default on Linux startup.

The problem:
- I could not care less about disk space on these partitions, while on Linux. I
want to take care of them while on Windows.
- The dialog is showing up repeatedly for the same disk.
- It's a disruptive popup dialog, instead of being a more subtle bubble
notification (this is being discussed in a feature request somewhere on
launchpad).
- The Don't show any warnings again for this file system does not have any
effect. Yes, it does change a setting somewhere in system settings, but the
popup will show up nevertheless.
- Trying to change the threshold or the exclude directories via system settings
did not help either.
- I did not find how to uninstall or disable this new feature.

This is just one of the many things that make the new 11.10 a horrible
experience for me.

Enter will fail to cause the printer to print if trying to print from
Firefox or Gedit. Printing from LibreOffice, however, does NOT exhibit
this bug.

To replicate, do the following:
1. open Firefox or Gedit and call up the print dialog box by pressing Ctrl+P or
FilePrint.
2. place the focus either in the Pages: section by specifying to only print
Page 1 or in the Copies: section by requesting that two pages be printed.
3. press Enter. Despite the Print button showing an orange highlight,
pressing Enter will fail to cause the printer to print.

[Bug 875370] Re: Bluetooth doesn't allow files to transfer and won't allow browsing of device

2011-10-25 Thread Simone Lussardi
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 872044 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/872044

It is not a duplicated bug. Essentially I get the same problem with my
Nokia phone and Bluetooth (Lenovo T400 laptop). Worked like a charm with
10.04, 10.10, 11.04, then I did the upgrade to 11.10 and while I *can*
send/receive files from either my laptop or the phone (bi-directional) I
*cannot* browse the device. After the second attempt, entire Bluetooth
applet crashes on Unity and to re-open it I have to restart the
computer.

[Bug 821765] Re: The user account password requirements should be less strict

2011-10-25 Thread Martin Pitt
I wouldn't mind if control-center dropped its own checks and leaves the
strength checking to PAM. There is already cracklib and other PAM
plugins which check password quality for all interfaces (not just
control-center).

[Bug 859723] Re: Nautilus appearance without colour or theme

2011-10-25 Thread Matthijs ten Kate
So the question is - are these errors actually related to different
bugs, or is there one bug which causes different errors to appear in the
log but actually has the same root cause?
