I managed to reproduce the behaviour Volodya has reported both in Ubuntu

happens with removable devices and Windows shares.

[Bug 861389] Re: after screen dims (idle / screensaver), cannot rebrighten it

2011-10-27 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 872652 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/872652

As far as I can tell, it probably is, so I'm marking it as such.
Btw, although the workaround of a user-level setting to never dim the screen
works in part, the screen will also dim on lightdm before anyone has logged in,
if one waits long enough. Then the screen also cannot be rebrightened, and
logging in does not reawaken/rebrighten it.

[Bug 558674] Re: Open file dialog malfunctions in lucid

2011-10-27 Thread Pausanias
Walter, I just read that document. I need to be a computer scientist
just to decipher that thing. I am not a community member, coder, or
someone with the time to follow all that procedure.

Look, I'm just a poor LTS user. I bought into the whole promise of
Ubuntu that while LTS is supposed to lack new features, it would fix
critical bugs. This is a critical bug with LTS. It's been fixed
upstream. It causes the file open dialog to behave in an erratic and
potentially harmful way. And no one is willing to bring it back to LTS?

If there isn't a regular Ubuntu dev, whether paid or volunteer, who
recognizes how important this bug is, then I give up on Ubuntu. Even
worse, if you do recognize how important this bug is to fix, but lack
the willingness to put your expertise into use for 2 minutes to follow
that procedure of which you just spoke, then I give up on Ubuntu even
worse. This isn't a case of an unknown random bug which can't be
reproduced, it is the case of a bug which has been recognized by
upstream and for which there is a specific patch.

[Bug 837244] Re: package manager problems on upgrades. installed Mint, reinstalled natty, still having problems.

2011-10-27 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure can be caused by filesystem or memory corruption.
So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory test. If
this does resolve your bug please set its status to Invalid. Thanks in
advance!

[Bug 861443] Re: There is no easy way to change proxy settings in Ubuntu 11.10

2011-10-27 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
MrCopilot;

We understand your frustration. Ignoring hosts for proxy is something
that tends to be useful, but perhaps it was deemed not as frequently
used as the other functions by upstream developers, which is why it's no
longer exposed in the UI (which is something Ubuntu gets from upstream,
so it applies to all distributions using Gnome3). As you undoubtedly
have noticed, the option is still available via command-line, as such:

gsettings set org.gnome.system.proxy ignore-hosts ['localhost',
'127.0.0.0/8', 'some.other.host']

However, the issue you're describing is something different than not
being able to change proxy settings at all. As such, I'd like to invite
you to file a new, separate bug report that covers *precisely and only*
exposing ignore-hosts in UI. We can then send this report to the
upstream developers at GNOME (alternatively, you can just file the bug
there directly (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME)). This
way it will run the best chance of being taken care of by developers.

[Bug 882720] [NEW] Automatic library rescan should not be performed on startup

It seems that Rhythmbox automatically rescans the library on startup,
which takes some time and makes a lot of disk noise.

With rescan functionality, Rhythmbox is better than Banshee which
ignores any library changes like missing items.

default and make a Rescan library button.

The rest of rescan process should remain the same (after library
rescanning, the missing items should be moved to Missing items
section, where unneeded songs can be manually removed; on the next
rescan, songs from Missing items that have become available, should be
moved back to the library, the others should remain in Missing items).

[Bug 855967] Re: vinagre crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast()

2011-10-27 Thread Ian! D. Allen
So vinaigre crashed (Ubuntu 11.04) and sent me through the bug reporting
process, collecting 50MB of reporting information and uploading it all.

Here in Launchpad, I was offered two similar crashes and asked if either
matched mine. Of course one did, so I chose it. As far as I can tell,
Launchpad then threw away all my uploaded crash report tracing info and
simply added my name to the this affects me count.

Now that I open up this bug, I see that it is Incomplete requiring a
useful symbolic stack trace. For all I know, my crash had one, but
Launchpad in its wisdom threw away my stack trace when it decided that
my crash was similar to this one.

Shouldn't Launchapd *always* upload the additional crash report info for
developers to look at, rather than throwing it away, especially for bugs
marked Incomplete - need stack trace?

I have the dump sitting here at home if you want me to do something with
it:

[Bug 882720] Re: Automatic library rescan should not be performed on startup

2011-10-27 Thread Bob Bib
** Description changed:

+ Ubuntu 11.10 (amd64)
+ rhythmbox 2.90.1~20110908-0ubuntu1
+
It seems that Rhythmbox automatically rescans the library on startup,
which takes some time and makes a lot of disk noise.

With rescan functionality, Rhythmbox is better than Banshee which
ignores any library changes like missing items.

I think, the optimal solution is to to turn off the automatic rescan by
default and make a Rescan library button.

The rest of rescan process should remain the same (after library
rescanning, the missing items should be moved to Missing items
section, where unneeded songs can be manually removed; on the next
rescan, songs from Missing items that have become available, should be
moved back to the library, the others should remain in Missing items).

[Bug 442130] Re: Custom fstab causes duplicate entries for partitions in Places

2011-10-27 Thread lambassadeur
I can confirm that this bug with the UUID still exists in Ubuntu 11.04
Natty Narwhal.

The Workaround with using /dev/disk/by-uuid/ instead of UUID= does
the trick.

[Bug 875362] Re: nautilus bug Disappears

2011-10-27 Thread Fabio Marconi
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 863759] Re: Evolution cannot cancel Send/Receive process

2011-10-27 Thread gabriele feligiotti
** Description changed:

- every time I run evolution, it is not possible to stop the send/receive
- process neither close evolution process, I have to kill it!
-
When receiving email (e.g., by clicking 'Send/Receive' button),
sometimes some mail accounts always receive and never stop, even
clicking 'Cancel' buttons. This happens usually for some web mails,
e.g., Gmail or Hotmail. This problem has existed for a very long time
  (at least since Ubuntu 9.04).

  Current system:
  $ lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu oneiric (development branch)
  Release: 11.10

[Bug 882434] [NEW] Cannot change the brightness on Samsung P560 Plavos

2011-10-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

It is not possible to change the brightness on my Samsung p560 Laptop.
The OSD shows up when using the brightness keys, but the brightness is not
changed. I am not sure which package this problem is in. I can only change the
brightness before booting ubuntu.

I have the Intel GMA4500 gpu, and this has been an issue since around 9.04.
There is some information in this bugreport:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/338182, which describes a
different issue.
And an old bugreport set as wont fix:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/338173
Sadly any nvidia tools will not help.

I currently have a clean install of:

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 11.10

[Bug 882747] [NEW] Movie player starts but doesn't buffer .m3u streams

2011-10-27 Thread Farrell Swain
Public bug reported:

When I try to listen to mp3 streams using Firefox (some web sites Movie
player is the only default) Movie player will open and start to buffer
but stops and goes to play. Sometimes it will buffer and I can listen
to the site other times no. Once in a while Movie Player will load the
.m3u file I have on my Desktop and I can listen to it using Movie
Player. I can listen to my .m3u file on my Desktop using Rhytembox. I
like to use Totem Movie Player because of Goom! what a Goom!

[Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working

2011-10-27 Thread Doug McMahon
The most potentially effective 'workaround' would be as described in comment 8,
at least as seen here over the course of several weeks.
I also disable the disable touchpad while typing option but it seems here
that setting the plugin activation to false is what keeps it from reoccurring
over the long haul
