[Bug 874671] Re: Empathy doesn't remember favorites, chat logs when ~/.local is a symlink
Ok, here's what I did. I adapted the instructions from this comment: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/telepathy-mission- control-5/+bug/816554/comments/4 adding owner /var/jay/.local/share/telepathy*/ rw, and the like to my /etc/apparmor.d/usr.lib.telepathy file, then running: sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.lib.telepathy Empathy is now successfully saving logs, even though @{HOME}/.local/share/telepathy*/ is a symlink to /var/jay/.local/share/telepathy*/ Is it the symlinking that is causing this problem? I assume that it is. [Bug 856312] Re: Cant set resolution with two monitors
In a fresh install of Oneiric, I had a dual screen setup with 3D capability adequate for compiz effects. Then I tried fglrx but had issues with the dual monitor setup and setting resolutions with amdcccle so I uninstalled fglrx. However, it seems that there are some after effects of having had fglrx installed which mean some packages need to be reinstalled. These steps got me back to a clean dual monitor setup with the free radeon driver for both a radeon 5870 and a 5770. http://gurrier.wordpress.com/2011/10/30/amd-video-problems-in- ubuntu-11-10-oneiric-ocelot/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/856312 Title: Cant set resolution with two monitors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/856312/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Tomasz, I uploaded the fix for this bug 2 weeks ago. However because I am not an official Unity developer it has to go through a review process, which often takes several weeks. [Bug 883744] [NEW] gnome-terminal does not honor the Show menubar by default in new terminals option
Public bug reported: When launched, gnome-terminal has a menu bar, even though 'Show menubar by default in new terminals' is clearly unchecked. I only have the default profile. This happens both when launching a new gnome-terminal from the command line, and when opening a new terminal window through the File menu of an existing gnome-terminal. In both cases, the terminal launches without the menu, but the menu flickers into existence after half a second or so. If it helps, I am on Gnome Classic (no effects), so none of that Unity crap for me. I don't think Banshee's at fault here. And probably not Rhythmbox either. Both of them just implement the MPRIS2 interface and let the sound menu take care of that. [Bug 883754] [NEW] No option to select app from custom location to open type of files
Public bug reported: When you have a type of file, for example a Gimp file, .xcf, I used to be able to select a custom built Gimp as default to open the file with, by browsing to the directory I built it in. The option to select the application through a path is gone. This is a serious regression, limits the freedom of the user, and makes it impossible to use custom built applications as default when the user wants, or even needs it. Ubuntu does not always ship the latest and greatest version of software, and sometimes these are exactly the ones that are needed. The only options that appear are the apps installed by the software center, or 'search online', which are neither what I need. The option to select the app from the users custom location is necessary. I hope this will be fixed very soon. [Bug 845775] Re: gnome system monitor shows network upload speed that is inaccurate
Thanks Kyle, Dmitri, that is correct, I am referring to the tooltip and the main window not matching. 1.6MB != 4.4MB regardless of whether using 1024 or 1000 bytes per KB, etc. Until recently I had only used the tooltip to track my network usage. When I confirmed it with the transfer window I saw it was off. When I checked it against the network monitor window I saw it also did not match. [Bug 826719] Re: the indicator applet no longer shows which layout is currently selected - it only shows an icon of a keyboard.
(This paragraph is in reply to #3.) This is not the case for me. The description of my problem is very close to the title of this bug (except for no longer shows part that should be doesn't show in my case, because it never worked for me, actually). Although, my report is not very reliable: my system is not Ubuntu, but Ubuntu based (Trisquel). I have three layouts, but current layout was not shown (the indicator *was* on the panel in the form of static icon, that resembles keyboard). This problem took place in my Trisquel 4.5, and had not disappeared after upgrade to Trisquel 5.0. Workaround that finally solved my problem: I created New Panel, added to the new panel all I need (including Indicator Applet), removed the old (standard) panel. [Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working
synclient TouchpadOff=0 has no effect for me. That setting is toggling correctly as I start/stop typing. Also, I have the exact same problem whether disable touchpad while typing is enabled or not. Right after booting, it actually works for a couple minutes. By the 10 minute mark, it's so bad I can hardly even work with it using an external mouse. This is probably unrelated, but I installed gpointing-device-settings to get some additional controls while troubleshooting this problem, and some of its options don't seem to stick. I have the same behavior with precise (x64). Twin-View works but with separate X-screen setup, nautilus crashes when right-clicking on the white background in the second (hdmi-)screen (:0.1). Only possible option to use that :0.1 -screen: moving the mouse in that screen (to move focus to it), open a terminal with Ctrl-Alt-t. Now one can open any application but nautilus from within that terminal in the second screen. Nautilus does always open in the first screen (:0.0), even when invoked from that terminal. [Bug 883892] Re: Thunderbird, Firefox, Evolution hang
Thanks for reporting the bug. Since the official language used by this bugtracker is English, I have translated your report to that language for the convenience of non-Italian readers. - Firefox hangs when you open Web pages and stops hanging after about 10 minutes, or the message to kill the program appears. A similar issue occurs for Thunderbird; it is not possible to configure a new account manually if it can't automatically detect configuration parameters. Evolution hangs immediately when I try to configure an account. - The programs you have listed are different, but I suspect that either (1) your system is slow and hangs, especially if more applications are open at the same time or desktop effects are enabled, or (2) your Internet connection is quite slow and the programs hang, waiting for a response from the server. Could you please answer these questions so that we are able to reproduce the bugs and fix them? * Are the bugs reproducible (do they happen every time you try to open Web pages, configure an account...)? * If yes, could you please write in detail what steps do we need to perform to reproduce the bug? * Which Flash package do you have installed? * Which Java package do you have installed? * Which Firefox and Thunderbird extensions do you have installed? * Do you experience the crashes when you open a particular Web page or do they happen for every page? * Do Firefox and Thunderbird hang even if you execute them in safe mode (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs#Try_running_in_safe_mode for an explanation)? [Bug 879456] Re: Typeahead functionality for nautilus is broken
I can confirm the backspace problem. Besides that if you type the name of a folder and then press enter when the correct folder is selected, then the typeahead text-field does not disappear and its contents are not being cleared. So for example if I want to navigate to /usr/share (from /) then I normally do: - type us so that usr gets selected - press enter - type sh so that share gets selected - press enter What now happens: - I type us so that usr gets selected - I press enter - I'm in /usr/ but the type ahead text-field is still there and still contains us The funny thing is that I cannot clear the text-field using backspace since that brings me to the parent directory. I'm using a 32 bit version of Ubuntu and did not upgrade but a fresh installation. However my home directory has been used in Ubuntu 10.10. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/879456 Title: Typeahead functionality for nautilus is broken To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/879456/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
