[Bug 892958] Re: Ubuntu 11.10 Unity 2D glitches and sometimes freezes when using work space switcher

2011-11-21 Thread Phil. V
Thanks for your bug report. I'll package this against metacity so we can get an
apport hook, but I'm not exactly sure what handles work space switching in a 2d
session. So we can get some detailed system information attached to this
report, though, could you please run the following command in a terminal from
your unity-2d session:
apport-collect 892958

Also, could you describe the freeze that you sometimes experience? Is it
a hard freeze? Will the system respond to keyboard input
(ctrl+alt+delete, etc)?

[Bug 892989] [NEW] org.gnome.desktop.media-handling.automount-open should be set to false by default in gnome-shell

2011-11-21 Thread Julien Olivier
Public bug reported:

In Oneiric, org.gnome.desktop.media-handling.automount-open is set to
true by default, which causes removable medias to open a new nautilus
window when inserted. This might be the desired behaviour in Unity, but
it's wrong in gnome-shell because gnome-shell already displays a
notification asking whether the user wants to open a nautilus window.
This is redondant with the automatic opening of the window.

I already sumbitted it upstream but it was rightfully closed NOTGNOME:

[Bug 893031] [NEW] Empathy is not working behind the proxy servers in Ubuntu 11.10

2011-11-21 Thread nithin_aneesh
Public bug reported:

Empathy is unable to connect behind the proxy servers whatever way we try. It
doesn't utilize the proxy settings given globally to the system. There is no
proxy option in the program also. I tried connecting to empathy from Ubuntu
11.10 in three systems behind a proxy server and in all cases it failed.
I tried all of the following but none worked:

1. Changing settings with gconf-editor ( Walk down the tree to system -
http_proxy . Search for use_http_proxy and check it. )
Even after doing that there is no change in behaviour of empathy
2. gksudo gedit /etc/bash.bashrc
export http_proxy=http://proxyhost:port/
export ftp_proxy=http://proxyhost:port/
save and exit
This also didnt help anything
3. Using tsocks and editing its config files also.
In that case the result was:
tsocks dbus-launch empathy fails to retrieve the accounts list.
tsocks empathy launches empathy, but it is unable to connect..

Please generate a patch for this problem and release new version of the
program.

[Bug 892795] Re: hide desktop icon

2011-11-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 892585] Re: Reliably crashes (segmentation fault) when opening User Accounts

2011-11-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

2011-11-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 893086] [NEW] Sending mail happens in the foreground

2011-11-21 Thread terray.tamas
Public bug reported:

In the previous version the mail sending happened in the background. You
clicked on the sending, and got back the main window. Now it shows the
new mail window and an indicator that the mail is sending. It slows down
the user, who has to wait until it ends, or she should change back to
the main window all the time. If you send many emails per day it's a
long time together.

It'd be nice to have a config option to work like in the previous
versions.

[Bug 683610] Re: If pausing before entering fullscreen, the movie goes blank

2011-11-21 Thread Ahmed Shams
Thanks for reporting it, Actually I thought it happens to me only :)
I've experienced it with 'Totem' plus, even in fullscreen if I move the cursor
the bars from top and bottom will move inside then outside, after moving
outside it leaves blank shadows and it doesn't clear until un-fullscreen then
fullscreen again. The only way to avoid this was by Un-installing then
installing it again, anybody tried this with banshee or it's just totem.

[Bug 765012] [NEW] Mount partitions on app access if user permission is granted

2011-11-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I think if an application wants to use a partition (for example for
downloading or uploading something) and that partition is unmounted, the
system should try to mount it, and if permission is granted it will be
able to, if it needs extra privileges, it will fail of course. This way
the user wouldnt need to click on each partition to mount it for the
application.

I'm using Deluge, and reported a bug there also: http://dev.deluge-
torrent.org/ticket/1752

A long term solution would be to add this function to Ubuntu core
system. I dont think it would be a security hazard anyway, and it would
increase usability.

2011-11-21 Thread Bott
There is .xsession-errors.txt attached to the bug but I can upload a new
.xsession-errors when I will be at home.

The bug doesn't happen all the time. It's a local login and not a guest session.
In the same session, the icons can disappear and then re-appear after a few
minutes.

I installed ubuntu 11.10 (I re-formatted the system partion). The home
partition wasn't re-formatted.
The old version is the same version: ubuntu 11.10 and before it, it was ubuntu
11.04. After installation, I updapted to all disponible updates and I install
some programs. I don't know the faulty update. I'm not sure if the cause is an
update.

[Bug 500417] Re: nautilus doesn't honor gnome theme

More specifically, sometimes after a wake-up my entire theme is wrong,
and it looks like a default Gnome theme has been applied. Re-selecting

[Bug 500417] Re: nautilus doesn't honor gnome theme

2011-11-21 Thread Justin Young
I see this intermittently as well. I'm using 11.04 Classic on a Dell
laptop.

Usually this occurs when I wake up the computer after it was suspended,
especially if it was not docked when suspended, and then I dock to wake
it up. (The dock has an external monitor attached.)

Restarting nautilus worked for me, though I've only tried it once.
Previously I logged out and back in, which also worked.

[Bug 893199] [NEW] Dictionary Look Up Applet missing in Oneiric

2011-11-21 Thread Lindsay
Public bug reported:

The dictionary look up applet seems to be totally missing in 11.10!
This was one of my most-used utilities. The package description for
gnome-dictionary says that the applet is included it it, but I can find
nothing relating to the applet in the listing of the package contents.
What happened??? I certainly hope an executive decision wasn't made to
deep-six this applet, which has been one of my favorites for many years.

[Bug 893197] [NEW] timezone map no longer allows reliable selection of the correct zone

2011-11-21 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

In precise, when I click on the Time Date Settings from the datetime
indicator, I'm presented with a timezone map. Clicking in the general
area of Iowa/Illinois, US, which is firmly in the US/Central timezone,
results in Vincennes being selected as my timezone - which is wrong,
Vincennes is in Eastern time and the highlighted region is clearly not
where my mouse pointer was! moving slightly to the left and clicking
again, while staying in the right area for the Central timezone, I now
get Denver selected, which is one timezone to the WEST of what should
be selected. If I move my mouse up into Minnesota and click, I get
Rainy River, which is in the right general timezone but in the wrong
country ( == DST rules are not guaranteed to be the same). Clicking
again at the same point does no good - it does not cycle through the
cities in this timezone band, only continues to present me with the same
wrong zone.

By trial and error, moving the cursor a pixel at a time and clicking
again, I'm ultimately able to choose Chicago.

This UI is completely unusable. I know it didn't work this poorly in
oneiric, so something seems to have regressed upstream.

[Bug 893174] Re: Ubuntu mono appears larger under precise

2011-11-21 Thread Paul Sladen
My initial thought it is:

  11 pt * 96 DPI / 72 == 1320

however that would give an overlap of ~40 pixels instead of 6 pixels.
It's possible that the 6 pixels are accounted for by non-zero width
borders.

[Bug 893197] Re: timezone map no longer allows reliable selection of the correct zone

2011-11-21 Thread Steve Langasek
Seb points out that the indicator-datetime hasn't changed since oneiric
so this is not likely to be a regression. This is possible; on
reflection, the last time I would have needed Central Time would have
been in January, so I wasn't trying to select this timezone at all in
oneiric, so maybe other timezones generally work better.

** Package changed: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu Precise) = indicator-
datetime (Ubuntu Precise)

[Bug 892726] Re: applet crashes when i've got any network problem

2011-11-21 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 500073] Re: [Lucid] Brasero cannot create dvd video or create image

2011-11-21 Thread Shane Synan
This bug bit me on a fully updated Ubuntu 10.04 system when trying to
copy a CD, failing with the exact same error message. However, I found
a fix.

According to http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9754437postcount=3,
I installed the package icedax and it worked without even having to
reboot.

From a terminal:
sudo apt-get install icedax

Should the dependencies of Brasero be updated to include this package?
