[Bug 882956] Re: [Oneiric] [Dell XPS M1330] Gnome session exits with XI_BadDevice error
Yesterday I was testing the suspend / wakeup cycle during nearly 2 hours. Currently it is much less frequent and very difficult to reproduce. I just got one gnome crash at the beginning. I tried to get a backtrace of gnome-session process crash, but I wasn't able to do it. This morning I got a wakeup crash again, but I hadn't the debugger attached. Sorry. (Now I'll try to run it with a debugger attached whenever I can using a script.) It has definitely to do with some X input device (uvcvideo, psmouse, usbhid). Some more notes: * I had ThinkFinger package installed until after upgrade to 11.10. I removed it and the system seems more stable. * I used GDK_SYNCHRONIZE=1 to see if it makes a difference, that seems not to be the case Regards. [Bug 838543] Re: False battery warning +suspend
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 852406 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/852406 I do NOT think they are duplicates - or at least, the issue I am having is not a duplicate. I am not having any issues whatsoever with it registering a nonexistent battery, or this happening after I come back from suspend. Firstly, my laptop never goes into suspend mode, and second this happens to me CONSTANTLY. It even does this directly after starting up and loading Oneiric, if my power cord gets unplugged. It doesn't do it every single time, but 9 out of 10 times that my cord gets pulled from or falls out of the port, my laptop goes into hibernate (that is my power setting for low battery, rather than standby) or shuts down completely. I have a dell laptop and the plug does NOT like to stay in, so my laptop ends up completely shutting down from this issue at least twice a day, and going into hibernate around six or eight times as much. Earlier today my power cord unplugged five times in thirty minutes, two times of which it immediately shut down. It is ridiculously frustrating. And yes, I HAVE enabled -proposed, installed all the new updates and things that enabling it gave me, and no, it has not fixed the issue. I've been keeping tabs on the other bug report despite the fact that I do not believe they are duplicates, and I was really hoping that it would fix the issue, but it seems to have made it both worse and slightly better simultaneously. I have a marginally better chance of my laptop not hibernating/shutting down if I press cancel and get my laptop plugged back in fast enough, and the first time or two it happens directly after I start up, there is an even chance of getting no warning or anything. But now a whole new issue has cropped up, which is that my battery life indicator is futzing up the percentage or time of battery life I have left. This was not happening before. So whereas before, it would tell me I had 2:05 and 100% left on my battery when it was unplugged, and I would get the warning, now it'll tell me I have 6:00 or 0:15 or 10% left. On a fully charged battery. Plus, the original problem still exists: if my charger falls out of the port on my laptop or gets unplugged, even on a full battery, a warning pops up, tells me my battery is about to die, and then my laptop goes into hibernate, or worse, shuts down completely. Unless I start my laptop up unplugged my battery life has essentially been reduced to a minute or less. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/838543 Title: False battery warning +suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/838543/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 896631] Re: Startup applications (aka gnome-session-properties ) should show icons if possible
Interesting suggestion but that would lead to random behaviour (sometimes it work, sometimes it doesn't), consistency is better than magic that happens to work only sometimes (random behaviour leads to confused users). Please note that I (and probably everyone who added startup applications in the past and thus with icons) is in this state of incosistency (look at the screenshot again). Moreover, I do not think it would create much inconsistency: 1) If you add an app that has an icon in unity and so on, if it does not appear, it should be filed as a bug. 2) If you add an app that does not have an icon but should, well, it is a bug once more 3) If you add something else (ie. custom script), you are probably experienced enough to know there is no icon for it. Moreover, there is the generic icon (on my screenshot, the one next to liferea and Parcellite) for this case, so not really an inconsistency there. If you really strive for consistency, remove the icons altogether. What we recommend to do is to dnd softwares from the unity dash to the session dialog, that will add the desktop files will all the infos including a nice icon and a name Frankly, I have no idea what this is supposed to mean. 1) If you add an app that has an icon in unity and so on, if it does not appear, it should be filed as a bug. the issue is that the .desktop name should match the command name is something which is in practice often false and not a documented standard but an hack, we aim at better quality and avoid hacks nowadays. Dragging from the launcher to the startup applications dialog does not work if you are talking about that (nor from the dash). dragging from the launcher doesn't work but dragging from the dash or the application lens should work, i.e click on the ubuntu logo in the launcher to open the dash, type gedit (for example), dnd the gedit icon to the gnome-session-properties dialog, it should be added with a proper name or icon. Renaming the bug I think one change that would improve the logic is to use the same selector you get in nautilus when you right click and select open with, that dialog browses .desktop files and it's usually what you want. [Bug 897188] [NEW] Evolution doesn't get new messages from an IMAP server after suspend/resume
Public bug reported: Hi, if you have an open imap session and suspend/resume your notebook, evolution is unable to fetch new messages (at least if you are doing NAT). Most probably this is caused by open tcp sessions that aren't reestablished after resume. Best would be to kill all tcp connections when suspending and recreating them after a resume. This is a regression! It still worked in Ubuntu 11.04. [Bug 897282] [NEW] Wubi installed Ubuntu 10.04 can't use wireless network
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 10.04.03 LTS was installed recently using Wubi in WinXP home edition. I used a full partition (26GB) for Ubuntu. Wireless works well in WinXP on same laptop. So hardware has no problem. But no wireless network can be found in Ubuntu by network-manager or Wicd. Manually inputing wireless ESSID and password in network-manager didn't help. I have tried all commands related to wireless network I can find. The output are as below. It seems wireless card was disabled. But I couldn't find way to enable it. I may have disabled (reenabled later) wireless card in WinXP when installing Ubuntu. So I reinstalled Ubuntu using Wubi to check if it's the problem. But this time I kept wireless enable. The problem is still same in new Ubuntu. So disabling and reenabling in WinXP was not the problem. It becomes more like a bug. I have not find hardware switch on laptop and never use it.
