[Bug 880096] Re: cant change laptop brightness

2011-12-03 Thread Maciej Lopuszanski
I found kind of a workaround for this problem.
1. gedit /etc/default/grub
2. change:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash
to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash acpi=off

3. sudo update-grub
4. reboot
5. now the brighness controls works but there is no indicator on the upper
right corner (I can live with that)

I dont know what the option 'acpi=off' exaclty does... so I dont know if it
is a valid solution for the problem.
(maybe something else wont work correclty - time will tell.)

[Bug 873545] Re: No GTK theme applied on login

2011-12-03 Thread Hernando Torque
In my case (see bug 859723) this happens with Opera and KeepassX
whenever I close the application with some of its content in the

I'm attaching the backtrace from bug 859723 for what it's worth.

[Bug 899568] [NEW] gnome-session is registered in alternatives system by wrong package

2011-12-03 Thread Sergey Davidoff
Public bug reported:

Currently, the gnome-session binary is shipped in gnome-session-bin
package, but it's registered in the alternatives system (as /usr/bin/x
-session-manager) by a completely unrelated gnome-session package
which ships configuration files for Ubuntu, Ubuntu-2d and other
sessions. Therefore, derivatives using gnome-session but not Unity and
not shipping the package with configuration files don't get gnome-
session binary registered in the alternatives system.

[Bug 873545] Re: No GTK theme applied on login

2011-12-03 Thread Col Hathi
I don't think the buttons for the theme appeared for my install until i
changed the following default setting in dconf-editor:

/org/gnome/desktop/applications/interface/buttons_have_iconstrue
(default is false)

screensaver/idle-activation-enabled true
Also i had to make sure the xsettings in gconf-editor were set to
true and

I had to change the key so that nautilus didn't control the desktop (so no drag
and drop icons on the desktop from nautilus)
Other wise my cpus were cooking and install was freezing all the time. Oh and i
had to create a couple of symlinks for the unity icons - seems there was a
change of name from groups to categories preventing .desktop items to be
found for non-standard applications i used in 11.04.

I realise these are all just work arounds but at least unity is usable
now.

[Bug 873545] Re: No GTK theme applied on login

2011-12-03 Thread Col Hathi
Even though this is not relevant, i'll continue with my rant:

I also had to ensure that the compiz plugin gtk had been checked in ccsm at
least once.
The compiz plugin wallpaper had to be checked and set to be identical to the
wallpaper set in system settings otherwise the dash was always on the bottom of
the windows stack with the super button was pressed.
I still can't get the rotating cube viewport switcher to work without flashing
but the default wall works so there's no need to have an epileptic fit.
But i'm still getting the dbus warnings (don't know the cause yet) and
glib-gobject errors and indexing errors when nautilus is opened but not to the
same extent as immediately after the upgrade. This has prevented me from
opening very large documents to work on.

Another victory for those who advise against upgrades in favour of new
installs.

[Bug 873545] Re: No GTK theme applied on login

2011-12-03 Thread Col Hathi
In post #45 i should have mentioned that the following should be set:
/org/gnome/desktop/applications/interface/menus-must-have-icons
 true (default is false)
gtk-theme set to Adwaita or whatever you want
icon-theme set to Faenza-Ambiance or what ever you want
toolbar-icon-size large/small whatever you want

I also had to make sure that my legacy gnome panel icons were
whitelisted in the key /desktop/unity/panel

Also to further reduce errors/warnings from filling .xsession-errors
file, i had to disable Tear-Free-Desktop setting in amdcccle for my
ATI graphics using fglrx.

since now I know why this problem happens. The resolution of my screen

[Bug 899670] [NEW] Nautilus crashes when opening folder with .JPF file

2011-12-03 Thread cmavr8
Public bug reported:

Opening a folder that contains .JPF files (even if it's just one)
crashes nautilus after 1-2 seconds.

In my terminal I get:
nautilus: jpc_dec.c:1077: jpc_dec_tiledecode: Assertion `dec-numcomps == 3 ||

Aborted

Personal comments:
1. Bug identical to

package? Sorry if I double-posted...

2. I do not know if it's related/affecting but I always get the

[Bug 899686] [NEW] Rhythmbox crashes when selecting Properties for iPod

2011-12-03 Thread Bruce Pieterse
Public bug reported:

- Start Rhythmbox
- Plug in an iPod
- Right-click on the iPod and select Properties
- Rhythmbox crashes

I can reproduce this bug every time. The application also crashes if you
try and delete a playlist off the device, but i'm not sure if it is
related to this bug as I currently have no playlists on my iPod anymore
to test.

GDB debug and Apport .crash file attached.

I hope this can get fixed soon as I recall having this intermittent
problem since 10.10.

Thanks

Hi,

Shat server is the remote end ? If it is an exchange 2010,
please also check which service pack is installed.
How do you access the server ? IMAP ?

I am currently trying to find out if an update to exchange2010sp6
broke the search in my case.

[Bug 899748] [NEW] gstreamer v4l2src fails with device=

2011-12-03 Thread Shevek
Public bug reported:

I have only one video device, it is /dev/video0.

This works:

$ gst-launch 'v4l2src ! xvimagesink'
Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...
Pipeline is live and does not need PREROLL ...
Setting pipeline to PLAYING ...
New clock: GstSystemClock
(video plays)

This does not work:

$ gst-launch 'v4l2src device=/dev/video0 ! xvimagesink'
Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...
Pipeline is live and does not need PREROLL ...
Setting pipeline to PLAYING ...
New clock: GstSystemClock
ERROR: from element /GstPipeline:pipeline0/GstV4l2Src:v4l2src0: Internal data
flow error.
Additional debug info:

streaming task paused, reason not-linked (-1)
Execution ended after 2532703705 ns.
Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...
Setting pipeline to READY ...

This means that I cannot read from video1, or use v4l2loopback or
anything, since gstreamer apparently cannot deal with the device=
setting.

[Bug 899755] [NEW] gnome terminal does not save session

2011-12-03 Thread Teunis Peters
Public bug reported:

Now this could be a feature request, it could be an upstream issue.
The problem has been present since Hardy, but has taken on new form with
the new session management of gnome3

This might indeed become a feature request rather than a bug
considering how long this has gone.

On logout this is how it used to behave:
Currently running terminal sessions - the path and the location - were saved,
and restored on login.

Many other applications (eg: chrome, thunderbird, firefox) do this, but
this has been lost along the way. The reason I think it may be a
feature request though - is gnome now does not seem to recover session
for any application and I have to restart essential running programs
(eg: ibus) every time I log in.

If there's any hints or pointers, please post. I'm a programmer who
depends on this feature to manage several different operational trees.

[Bug 880331] Re: Can no longer shutdown when laptop lid closes

2011-12-03 Thread David López
Hi Gilles. You can solve this bug (or missfunctionality) of gnome-
control-center using dconf-editor instead of gconf-editor. Open dconf-
editor and navigate to org - gnome - settings-daemon - plugins -
power. Set 'lid-close-ac-action' and/or 'lid-close-battery action' to
'shutdown'.

You can also solve this problem with Gnome-Tweak, navigate to Gnome-
shell and modify 'Laptop lid close action on battery' and/or 'laptop lid
close action when on AC'

Wish this helps.

[Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working

2011-12-03 Thread Rob Frohne
Hi All,

For the last couple of weeks I worked around this bug by assigning the
keyboard shortcut CTRL-F9 to the command:

synclient TouchpadOff=0

but tonight that didn't work. I even typed that in at the terminal
window to no avail. So then I went and got a USB mouse and when I
connected it and clicked and moved around I found the touch pad worked
again.

I find that the bug often occurs just after booting up, or resuming.

Rob
