Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report. We understand the difficulties you are
facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the support
tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if
they are bugs. You can also find a valid support at http://askubuntu.com
or posting your question in the support forum of your local Ubuntu's
community. For help on reporting bugs, see

2011-12-13 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 903651] [NEW] When opening files from network share, applications try to cache entire file locally

2011-12-13 Thread Jason Ward
Public bug reported:

Say you have a 80gb tar file.

Say this tar file is on a SAMBA share on the network.

Trying to open the tar using file-roller is something you will deeply
regret.

1) file-roller VERY SLOWLY attempts to cache the entire file locally (I mean it
takes it ages)
2) file-roller does not check that the local drive can store the file its
copying

File-roller has no good reason to copy locally, and the practice is
entirely counter productive, and in the case of multi-GB files can lead
to

a) access to the samba share for other applications (say a media player) being
overwhelmed and causing them to error
b) makes file-roller appear hung
c) leaves massive files in your local cache (~/.cache/.fr-randomcharacters)
and no way to clear them except manually
d) can cause your machine to run out of diskspace
e) is very very slow, copying the file locally, manually is many times faster
and doesn't cause other applications to error (see a)
f) very bad user experience

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 774312] Re: making link from Nautilus doesn't use the correct working directory

2011-12-13 Thread Patrik Nilsson
The bug is still there when you use LibreOffice Writer and tested with the live
cd.
1) Create a Writer document. Write test into it and save it into Documents
2) Quit Writer.
3) Make a link to your document.
4) Writer accepts to open both the original file and the link-file and start to
edit them both.

I'm not able to use any software to check the original reported error
with the live cd.

2011-12-13 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

that to do with this error?

I was using the Disk Utility post install of the OS.

[Bug 828000] Re: bluetooth-applet crashed with SIGSEGV in g_value_set_object()

2011-12-13 Thread Sebastien Bacher
the issue should be fixed in that version:

gnome-bluetooth (3.2.0-0ubuntu2) oneiric-proposed; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/lp805311_disconnect-signals-from-adapters-and-devices.patch,
debian/patches/lp805311_do-not-leak-proxies-for-interfaces.patch:
disconnect signals for adapters and devices, and also avoid leaking DBus
proxies for interfaces. (LP: #805311)

Could you try if that's still an issue?

[Bug 903315] Re: error:Broken Count

2011-12-13 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.
There is also a vibrant support community available at
http://askubuntu.com and you might consider asking your question there.

[Bug 879923] Re: No file transfers possible with cell phones, regression since oneiric alpha

2011-12-13 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Hey everybody, sorry that this bug got ignored for a while, there is
just too much traffic on launchpad and it's hard to read everything
coming, the bug is targetted for precise, set to high and assigned to
the desktop team so it should be on track

the issue from comment #19 has been fixed today thanks to Mathieu:

gnome-bluetooth (3.2.1-1ubuntu2) precise; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/fix_browse_devices_selector.patch: use gtk_pack_start()
rather than gtk_container_add() to add the bluetooth chooser widget,
as it's already done elsewhere, to make sure it's visible. (LP: #829703)

The bug seems to mix several issues. Browsing a bluetooth device over
gvfs, nautilus is known to be broken (upstream said they would drop the feature
this cycle if not fixed in a blog post recently)

The issue this bug is tracking is can't receive files from a phone, if
you have other issues please open another bug (check before if that one
is not reported already though)

Did somebody try to boot a 11.04 kernel on 11.10 and see if that solve
the issue?

[Bug 850649] Re: gnome-terminal extremely slow and display buggy

2011-12-13 Thread Rafał Krzewski
I'm also experiencing slow output. Scrolling any terminal surface causes
instant 100% utilization of one processor core.
I haven't noticed any display corruption though.

some system info:

rafal@arnica:~$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 11.10
Release:11.10
Codename: oneiric
rafal@arnica:~$ uname -a
Linux arnica 3.0.0-14-generic #23-Ubuntu SMP Mon Nov 21 20:28:43 UTC 2011
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
rafal@arnica:~$ cat /proc/driver/nvidia/version
NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 280.13 Wed Jul 27 16:53:56 PDT
2011
GCC version: gcc version 4.6.1 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.1-9ubuntu3)
rafal@arnica:~$ cat /proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/0/information
Model: Quadro NVS 140M

It's bothering me so much I'm considering using gprof to investigate it.
As far as I understand it, I'd have to compile each piece of relevant
software from source with special options to get meaningful output,
starting from gnome-terminal and then digging into libraries. Is this
correct?

[Bug 901022] Re: RECORDING HAVE GLITCHES AND PAUSES

2011-12-13 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
