[Bug 910343] [NEW] Home Folder launcher should launch default file manager
Public bug reported: The an app called Home Folder appears if one enters home into Unity's search (Home lens and App lenses, and no home folder is suggested) choosing this opens the user's home directory in Nautilus even if the user has set another file manager as their default file manager. This seems to occur because the Exec line in: /usr/share/applications /nautilus-home.desktop (a file owned by the Nautilus package) is set to nautilus . rather than xdg-open ., and because /usr/share/applications/nautilus-home.desktop is the app entry with the name Home Folder I suspect changing the Exec line to Exec=xdg-open . should give the expected behavior regardless of the user's choice of default file manager (I tested and found this to work with my current default: Marlin) This seems to be a somewhat known issue as Ubuntu Community Documentation exists that suggests a work around of removing/editing the nautilus-home.desktop file from /usr/share/applications/ when changing default file managers, as per: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DefaultFileManager Similar changes/issues maybe be in nautilus-browser.desktop, nautilus-computer.desktop and nautilus.desktop (though I haven't needed to edit these files personally yet) tested with Ubuntu 11.10 (Arch:AMD64), Nautilus version: 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu3.1 (oneric-updates) ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/910343 Title: Home Folder launcher should launch default file manager To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/910343/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 881376] Re: Low disk space warning popping up repeatedly.
Hi, I'm also affected by this bug, on a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot. In my case, I use a bunch of LVM2 logical volumes to store my files. Each volume holds a collection of related files, so its size intentionally fits its contents as close as possible : in order words, most of my logical volumes intentionally have as few free space as possible. If I need more space in a collection, I extend the corresponding logical volume. If I need to store a new collection of related files, I create a new logical volume. Those logical volumes are all specified in my /etc/fstab : as you can see, this warning can quickly get *very* annoying, as it pops up for every single collection I have. The following gconf settings don't have any effect : - /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/housekeeping/active = setting to 0 doesn't prevent the dialog to appear - /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/housekeeping/free_size_gb_no_notify = the granularity is too large (it is an integer, not a float) - /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/housekeeping/ignore_paths = correctly filled, but no effect : in my case, this setting would be the most useful, since I still want to be informed for normal file systems. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/881376 Title: Low disk space warning popping up repeatedly. [Bug 908841] Re: Safely Remove function shuts down USB Reader
This is a somewhat older problem . You need the unmount option because safely remove is an eject operation that sends a command to power off the device, and your card reader is powering down. . for some reason, the powers that be decided in their infinite wisdom that having both unmount and safely remove in the same menu was too confusing. So, you can use the CLI to unmount, or get an older or patched nautulus that restores the unmount menu option. Forcing a re-Scan of USB from the CLI might bring it back, too. This was a cosmetic decision that IMO, is unnecessarily dumbing down the UI. [Bug 486960] Re: Brasero disk burner won't get past Preparing to write.
I have experienced similar problems, and I think they are caused by previously mounted optical disks. In the past I used to insert DVDs and expect them to be mounted (which worked fine) and ejected them by pushing the EJECT button on the drive, expecting them to be unmounted (they are not writable, so why not). The latter does not seem to work on my present system (Ubuntu 11.11). When I manually eject a video disk Nautilus (or mount) still show it as mounted. Worse, when I then insert a raw disk it is still displayed as the previously ejected disk in Nautilus, while brasero displays it as an empty disk. The latter only works while the target selection box has the focus; it disappears as soon as I click on anything else. I suppose that could be a problem of GTK, a system I never managed to understand. I downloaded the current source package of brasero and noticed that the main if-cascade in brasero-project.c (brasero_project_is_valid) has no else branch, so some unexpected situation might get lost there. On the other hand when I try to reproduce the situation I get the (german) equivalent of Please replace the disc with a supported CD or DVD. So obviously brasero or, much more likely, Ubuntu thinks there's still the old DVD in the drive. I think it's this inconsistency that causes this kind of problems. I dont't know why Nautilus and Brasero still think the old DVD hasn't been unmounted, while brasero happily goes on trying to burn the empty disc -- and fails. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to brasero in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/486960 Title: Brasero disk burner won't get past Preparing to write. [Bug 597092] Re: palimpsest cannot unmount partition in fstab
In order to work around this bug, you can run `sudo palimpsest` from a terminal. Unfortunately, most users would have a hard time figuring out that palimpsest is the name of the app. (I did. I had to run check the running processes.) #3: It's great that root isn't required just to run palimpsest because the app has a lot of useful features that don't require root. (Maybe these are new features that used to be exclusive to gparted?) I think a better quickfix would be to change the error to add run sudo palimpsest or to have an option that restarts the program as root. [Bug 910474] [NEW] Filenames with comma and spaces are not handled correctly with default mail program Thunderbird
Public bug reported: This is may be an upstream bug, I don't know it yet. Environment: I have Thunderbird 8.0 installed as the default mail program. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a file with a comma (,) and a space in its filename. 2. Right click on it and call Send to 3. Chose Mail I expect Thunderbird to be opened and the file to be attached on the new mail. It does not happen, since Thunderbird does not find a file with the prefix before the comma. For example, if you have the file Great, this works.jpg, Thunderbird tries to access the file Great. I think it's the connetion between Nautilus and Thunderbird, so I filed this bug in the nautilus-sendto package. I hope, this is correct. Thunderbird standalone does not have problems with this file and if I use sendto with Brasero, it works, too. I hope, I gave you enough information for this small bug.
