[Bug 911425] Re: Unsupported checksum type sur init ipod
I seem to have a similar problem. I was given a new ipod 8gb 6th. gen which I tried to use with Rhythmbox - it recognised the ipod and seemed to be transferring podcasts but they didn't appear on the ipod when disconnected. I subsequently tried Banshee and GTKpod. They also recognised the ipod and showed podcasts stored on it, but nothing to show once it was disconnected. I noticed the GTKpod gave a unsupported checksum type message. Is this a clue to solving the problem? [Bug 912446] Re: Allow an independent context menu
The idea started with the folder in tree view, actually admitting I don't get it, or is it untrivial to just allow a complete context menu independent from where you click and leave it up to the user which action to select? The actions depend of the context, create a new directory doesn't apply if a file is selected for example... Is too much context confusing the user? Well, all actions don't apply to all context, and listing all possibles actions all the time would give a busy and confusing menu to use At current state one actually needs to tell a user click *exactly* on the file name, only then you'll get access to the appropriate context menu. When there is a very short file name for example 'fo' or '1' one needs to have good target skills. No, it doesn't, you can click on the icon or any part of the filename or on the text of other columns, if you aim for the icon you should hit either the icon or the filename and that should be easy enough to do? ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Low = Wishlist -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/912446 Title: Allow an independent context menu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/912446/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 912625] Re: #!/usr/bin/env python breaks Python-based Ubuntu packages in the presence of virtualenvs, local installations
I might take a look at c2esp, foo2zjs and pyppd in due time. So far I'm not sure this bug is as uncontroversial as it might seem and would really prefer a discussion about it on debian- pyt...@lists.debian.org before rushing out any actions. The Debian Python Policy currently says Maintainers _should_ not use env ..: this doesn't mean it's (currently) forbidden; this even means it discouraged, but allowed. I don't think creating a Ubuntu-specific diff for this type of bug is the way to go: either there is a valid reason to do it and it should be done in Debian first (with appropriate Debian Python Policy change, lintian warning, etc) or there is none and, well, the cost of the diff will have to be carried by Ubuntu hands. (Note that given bugs on the respective packages, such a change could be done in very few days in Debian.) Not doing it in Debian first now means that it might eventually be done there later and that a merge will be needed; that sounds like unneccessary work on both sides (and I like to avoid unneccessary work). In particular, this topic was previously discussed there: http://lists.debian.org/debian-python/2009/09/msg00132.html and there seemed to be reasonable agreement around a lintian warning and/or python policy amendment (although without actions); this should really come before blindly fixing all affected packages in Ubuntu only. (IMHO, eh). [Bug 883791] Re: Sound recorder reports that gnome-volume-control is not installed in the path
I have gnome-sound-recorder 2.91.2 installed! (Version obtained from the About Dialog Box) Yet when I select File - Open Volume Control I get gnome-volume-control is not installed in the path. I checked the installed gnome-media and I got: $ sudo dpkg-query --show gnome-media gnome-media 2.91.2-2ubuntu2 I guess that is why I am not getting the fix yet!! Although this is not really a critical issue, but how can I force install the latest gnome-media package in my Oneiric 64? [Bug 912454] Re: Blank incoming messages
Hi Muhammad, I cannot reproduce the bug by myself. I really tried, many times, taking into account some suspicious I had, but sometimes the bug occurs and some other times not. For instance, I suspected by closing every window, even the contact list, when a new incoming message arrives only the notification becomes visible but the chat window would open blank (this is actually what happens sometimes, but unfortunately not always). At this point, is highly unpredictable, but extremely frequent. ** Attachment added: Debug log. [Bug 909170] [NEW] Lock screen sometimes lets you through for a moment
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Ubuntu 11.10 - fully updated as of 27th December 2011 I have encountered several times a problem whereby my laptop, set to lock after the screen turns off (after being inactive for 10 minutes) will show the desktop once I wiggle my mouse to turn the display back on. This will give the person operating the laptop full access for about 5 seconds, at which time the screen will spontaneously start to fade (as it does when you lock it) and then display the lock screen. Almost as though the lock screen activation program hasn't caught up with the screen turning off until a few moments after it is turned back on. This is a problem because anyone can come to the computer and see exactly what I've been doing and have full access to the machine for about five seconds. Another issue I have seen is where the lock screen dialog shows over the desktop (under the same circumstance of the display turning back on when you wiggle the mouse/touchpad). This means people can see everything that is running even though they can't access it. This is in addition to the bug I reported earlier where the lock screen shows the top bar with the currently running application named. Another issue, which is not so much a bug as a design flaw, is that the lock screen does, in fact, fade in instead of just appearing when you press CTRL+ALT+L. It should blank the display immediately or at least display the lock screen so that if you locked it to stop someone seeing something who, say, just walked into the room, they wouldn't just see a gradual fading of something sensitive. ** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Lock screen sometimes lets you through for a moment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/909170 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 912446] Re: Allow an independent context menu
actions depend of the context, create a new directory doesn't apply if a file is selected for example... This is true in tight context. The red line is to have a choice or being restricted from it. For example in Firefox when I'd like to copy an url, I can select copy, move to a folder, decide that I need a new folder for it first, create a new folder and paste the url into it afterwards. The context menu doesn't restrict me to only copy and paste an url it offers parallel to create a new folder. Imagine to select a file and select copy, change your mind to create a folder first, you need to move the mouse somewhere else to get the appropriate context menu. Result, don't click on a file if you'd like to create a new folder, at least don't change your mind after selecting a file - computer restricts brain. busy and confusing menu Thanks, it answers my question if too much context is confusing. hit either the icon or the filename and that should be easy enough to do? [Bug 912625] Re: #!/usr/bin/env python breaks Python-based Ubuntu packages in the presence of virtualenvs, local installations
/usr/bin/env is a perfectly good solution for *development* branches of packages, but very definitely not for deployed production versions of applications, for exactly the reasons described in this bug report. Meaning: if you are developing a Python application, by all means use /usr/bin/env in your own code, since this will make it easier to test against a variety of Python versions. But packaging should always install the application using the explicit path to the appropriate Python executable. [Bug 872044] Re: Bluetooth 'Send files' returns permission denied error
Indeed not an issue with gnome-bluetooth really, this has more to do with obexd or obex-data-server than GNOME (and probably not bluez either). I'm reassigning this to obexd for now, since there really does seem to be something wrong with it at least in precise (and updating to the latest source seems to let it work better). The two patches provided might help, but I'm just generally not fond of adding timeouts for the fun of it; it always seems like there ought to be a better way to achieve this. However, since the ugliest one is for obexd, which has heavily changed in 0.43, it still seems like the lesser evil than trying to look through and backport the changes. ** Package changed: gnome-bluetooth (Ubuntu) = obexd (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: obexd (Ubuntu) Importance: Low = Medium ** Also affects: obex-data-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: obex-data-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-bluetooth in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/872044 Title: Bluetooth 'Send files' returns permission denied error To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-bluetooth/+bug/872044/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 879923] Re: No file transfers possible with cell phones, regression since oneiric alpha
Changing the gnome-bluetooth target to obexd: to me, things look really rather fine with gnome-bluetooth; no change needed locally to fix any of the issues (except for the browse dialog which is too small, fixed elsewhere). *However*, I can simply update obexd to the latest upstream version to make sending and receiving files largely work. The patch provided by phcoder in bug 872044 looks like it might work, but I wish it didn't just mean adding a delay. Regardless, it will need testing now. ** Package changed: gnome-bluetooth (Ubuntu Oneiric) = obexd (Ubuntu Oneiric) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-bluetooth in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/879923 Title: No file transfers possible with cell phones, regression since oneiric alpha To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/879923/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal: sudo apt-get clean Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory test. Thanks in advance!
