[Bug 379367] Re: Gedit adding a newline at the end of file should be configurable
Sorry to bump this very old bug, but I found it very hard to find any help on this issue, so I wanted to post some more information here. An upstream bug covering this issue can be found at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=625955. @lowang: That plugin does not resolve the issue. It removes user- placed whitespace, but not the magical hidden newline at the end of the file. Does a plugin exist which can do this? Is such a thing even possible, given how Gedit inserts it? ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #625955 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=625955 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gedit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/379367 Title: Gedit adding a newline at the end of file should be configurable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gedit/+bug/379367/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 819842] Re: Commands in the background are terminated after closing the terminal
I have Ubuntu 10.04 (should be up-to-date) and this is what happens with gnome-terminal: 1. gedit 2. Close terminal with the close button on the title bar (or close the corresponding tab). - A dialog opens saying Close this terminal? There is still a process running in this terminal. Closing the terminal will kill it. Both Cancel and Close Terminal buttons work as expected. 1. gedit 2. exit - Terminal (or the corresponding tab) closes but gedit keeps running. 1. gedit 2. Close terminal with the close button on the title bar (or close the corresponding tab). - Both terminal and gedit die without any warning or question. Any unsaved data will be lost. So it could be an explanation of the bad encoding . About the possible cause: the bookmarks code seems to be trying to update the menus which is an issue with bar destroyed... here i can comment on 2 different cases: one related to Natty i386 upgraded to Oneiric (laptop) and the other Oneiric i386 upgraded to Precise (desktop) - laptop: with Natty the xsession-errors log was quite empty, but after the dist-upgrade to Oneiric i get the gtk-critical flooding. As previously said, this system also only have gnome-session-fallback, both compiz/unity* purged. So issue with bar destroyed could be the root problem. - desktop: as i can remember with Natty i386 i was not having these gtk errors, they appeared with Oneiric (dont remember when but probably with RC), and continue with Precise. Oneiric was a fresh installation, and compiz/unity purged. Logged as gnome-classic. So here again the bar destroyed can explain the issue. [Bug 826771] Re: indicator-appmenu leads to have a nautilus menubar displayed on top of the screen
What I did is just a workaround, here is what I can suggest instead of destroying the widget (I didn't test any of these so I'm not sure it will work): - insert menu to proxy only on good sessions, like that: if (proxy != NULL (desktop_session == NULL || g_str_has_prefix(desktop_session, ubuntu)) { ubuntu_menu_proxy_insert(proxy, GTK_WIDGET(window), NAUTILUS_WINDOW(window)-details-menubar, 0); } - set $UBUNTU_MENUPROXY only on good sessions, so that it won't be set in Gnome Shell/Fallback - find out why appmenu(-gtk) draws that menu (probably it can't find a dbus listener so falls back to just drawing it) and make it looking at whether the original menubar before drawing it Also, we can use the method described at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MenuBar#Advertising_the_presence_of_the_menu_bar instead of checking $DESKTOP_SESSION, but this will work only if Unity/Appmenu starts before Nautilus. [Bug 505727] Re: No mention of howto disable keyboard shortcuts in help
I don't know whether it is appropriate to add comments to an old thread, but since it is still open ?I guess it is OK? I encountered this when customizing keyboard shortcuts in gnome- terminal. There was no obvious way to remove one once it is in place. I remembered seeing something like this in the main system settings keyboard shortcuts UI, so I went there and found that `backspace` will clear the shortcut. It says so right on that UI. So why isn't this simply added as a label to the gnome-terminal shortcut UI? Seems like precendence and simplicity would both win here, as well as any newcomer trying to configure the shortcuts and getting frustrated when they can't simply clear any! [Bug 395314] Re: gdm 2.26 appears on wrong monitor
This is an old bug, but just in case somebody is still experiencing it in a newer release, I can confirm than this problem is due to the mouse appearing in the exact center of both displays (nvidia gtx 550 ti in my case, two monitors 1024x768 with twin view) and gdm thinks than it's on the one of the right, since must be one pixel to the right or left since technicaly there's no real center betwen both screens. The solution from post Joerg in post #11 worked for me, thanks a lot! It forces gdm to set the mouse closer to the 0x0 coordinates, making it appear in the first monitor by default and so the gdm, login screen, language selector, etc... [Bug 909799] Re: Evolution helpfully translates folder names when it shouldn't
Most people don't try to use untranslated folders, so they probably never see this error. I get specific Verzonden folder doesn't exist errors when Evolution tries to store those mails in a non-existent 'Verzonden' folder while I specifically selected the existing 'Sent' folder. I also see errors in the logs of my dovecot server that confirm Evolution tries to use a non-existent Verzonden folder. It's obviously a bug that Evolution takes the name of a folder selected out of a list of existing folders, translates it, and then stores/uses that *translated* name as the actual folder name to store sent mails. There is no way this can ever work right... Maybe I should compile a bunch of screenshots / log entries / etc. to document this better (and then also report it upstream). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/909799 Title: Evolution helpfully translates folder names when it shouldn't To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/909799/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 855793] Re: Kubuntu 11.10 beta 1: Error upgrading using muon
Kubuntu will remain a joke as long as it continues to push out software that is broken by default. Muon may be great software, but it should not be the default as long as it's broken! How can we evangelize Kubuntu when it can't even update itself in a fresh install? This is the FOURTEENTH release of Kubuntu, and UPDATING is broken by default. This is just disgraceful. Someone needs to have the AUTHORITY to step in and say, This software is not ready for release, and either delay the Kubuntu release or keep the broken software out of the release. KPackageKit may not have been great, but it WORKED. This is one of the pitfalls of having inflexible time-based releases. Debian wouldn't push out a release if something as basic as updating was broken. I don't care if Kubuntu 11.10 became 11.11 or 11.12 or 12.01-- it shouldn't be pushed out the door until it's WORKING! It would even be better to skip a release than to push out one that's broken by default! What's the problem? Why doesn't someone prevent the release from going out until it's ready? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/855793 Title: Kubuntu 11.10 beta 1: Error upgrading using muon To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/855793/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
