[Bug 742544] Re: Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups

2012-01-13 Thread Joost Van Durme
HI Daniel,

the grep command does not give me any output. I did however install all the
upgraded files from the ppa with synaptic.
I dragged the black bar in Display settings to the right external monitor but
without effect. Even after restart.
Did I miss something perhaps?

Thanks a lot for the help.

Joost, if that grep command returned nothing then you don't have the fix
installed. Because the fixed version in my PPA will always write
messages containing UScreen.

[Bug 742544] Re: Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups

2012-01-13 Thread Joost Van Durme
Ok I see what's happening now. The dpkg command tells me the fix is installed,
but it seems to be only for Unity3D, not for Unity2D.
And I'm using Unity2D since Unity3D is heavily slowed down with ATI cards using
the fglrx driver. Moving windows is chunky.
I logged back in with Unity3D and the launcher is now on the correct screen.
Unfortunately I have to use 2D because the graphics are too slow in Unity3D
with my card.
Any chance on a fix for 2D, Daniel? :-)

[Bug 914348] Re: Touchpad LED on Dell's laptop is not working

2012-01-13 Thread AceLan Kao
Hi,

I'm trying to build a patch for this issue, but I encountered some
problems.

1. The permission of the file in sysfs is 0644, so gsd(gnome-settings-daemon)
should have root privilege to access the file.
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4096 Jan 13 17:04
/sys/class/leds/dell-laptop::touchpad/brightness
But the gsd run as a normal user privilege, so it don't have the permission to
control the touchpad LED.
I'm wondering how user space application deals with this kind of issue.

2. After system recovered from S3, the touchpad LED won't turn on again.
Is there any way that gsd can know the system recovered from S3 and
reset the LED status? I can discuss with the driver maintainer if there
is no way to know that.

[Bug 915973] [NEW] Implement case-insensitive instant search by process name

2012-01-13 Thread Aleksey Losev
Public bug reported:

I would consider the issue as a cosmetic bug.
Steps:
0. Run Tasque application
1. Open gnome-system-monitor
2. Switch to Processes tab
3. Do an instant search via typing letter keys: tasq...

What is expected:
It should be able to find Tasque as well as any other process with capital
letter(s) in the name.

What is faced:
Cannot find the Tasque process as its name starts from the capital T and the
search is case-sensitive.

The reason why it makes sense to fix:
The user does not have to know the proper case of process name.
On the other hand, the processes list sorting by name is case-insensitive - and
it's well.

Thanks!

[Bug 915993] [NEW] 'IP Information' is shown too short to see

2012-01-13 Thread el_gallo_azul
Public bug reported:

On the 'Devices' tab, there is a section called IP Information. This
consists of a field with headings Protocol, IP Address, Netmask /
Prefix, Broadcast, Scope.

I believe the table that they are shown in should be scaled to the size
of the window, and therefore the Devices tab. However, I am finding that
that table is very short. Too short to use, in fact. The size of the
headings is OK, but the text under the headings has a narrow slit, the
height of which is about two thirds of the vertical size of the text. I
will try to attach a screen shot.

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
- About Ubuntu

11.10

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
pkgname' or by checking in Software Center

Network Tools 3.0.0

3) What you expected to happen

To be able to read and use (scroll through etc) the IP Information text

4) What happened instead

Not able to read or use it

[Bug 916036] [NEW] Connecting a webcam for the first time does nothing

2012-01-13 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:

1. Connect an external webcam for the first time, while all these are true:
- you are logged in
- Ubuntu Software Center is installed
- Cheese is not installed.

What happens: Nothing. (Disclaimer: I have not actually tested this.)

What should happen:
* A Camera Connected dialog appears: You have connected a camera. Would you
like to install software for taking photos and videos with the camera?
* If you choose Cancel, the dialog disappears, and you don't see it again.
* If you choose More Info, the dialog disappears, and Ubuntu Software Center
opens to display information about Cheese.

I'm told gnome-settings-daemon is the appropriate place for this code;
please retarget if not.

(This is part of https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/ps-p
-indicator-refinements.)

But I think it is safe to not hurry - there can be some unrelated
uploads in the coming days which will fix these, like there were today
in case of empathy or nautilus.

Right, new GNOME tarballs are due next week and breakages to the
.desktop or template generation on the buildds is not an issue, I will
fix the g-s-d g-c-c cases today since those are functional ones and wait
for next updates for other desktop components

[Bug 898087] Re: Move window to workspace 1 shortcut doesn't work

2012-01-13 Thread El Samuels
P.S., Just noticed that since assigning bindings via Compiz, they showed
up under Custom Shortcuts under System SettingsKeyboard as Move
Window Right and Move Window Left.

Don't know if that's utterly obvious and expected or helpful, but in
case it's the latter, I figured I'd post it as well.

[Bug 898087] Re: Move window to workspace 1 shortcut doesn't work

2012-01-13 Thread El Samuels
Bug exists for me since migration to 11.10; was able to assign key
bindings (viz., Ctrl + Alt + 1 to move to workspace 1) fine in 10.04.

Tried changing bindings through System Settings, none entered are
recognized.

N.B., was able instead to use Compiz Manager and enable Put to adjacent
viewport to move windows to, well, the adjacent workspaces.

If I should post more info about this (or help in any other way), I'd be
happy to.

Thank you all for your hard work making such a great system!

2012-01-13 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Martin,
This bug report is about a 11.04 - 11.10 upgrade. Should the fix be SRUed?

[Bug 846110] Re: 'Song Lyrics' plugin doesn't save the location of the lyrics folder

2012-01-13 Thread Fido
This bug is also affecting the current precise pangoline alpha, seeing
as Rhythmbox is now the default player, this issue is a bit more
important.

[Bug 876522] Re: black screen when dim screen to save power

2012-01-13 Thread Walter Garcia-Fontes
Yes, thanks. The issue may be with gnome-screensaver, and not with
gnome-power-manager. Can you try to uninstall gnome-screensaver (from a
terminal)

sudo apt-get remove gnome-screensaver

and install

sudo apt-get xscreensaver

and see if the issue persists?
