[Bug 919082] [NEW] Keyboard layout selector only supports max of 4 layouts

2012-01-20 Thread Alan Pope
Public bug reported:

I am trying to debug a keyboard layout issue. I have added four keyboard
layouts and can no longer add any more. This seems a rather arbitrary

[Bug 919087] [NEW] При вызове F1 задаю вопрос

2012-01-20 Thread Lutfi Seydaliev
Public bug reported:

У меня функционируют два: первоначальный (видимо Nautilus) и видимо
(гостевойThunar). Скорее всего Nautilus, так как (гостевой Thunar) я не
использую
1. При вызове F1 и набора (искомого слова) для поиска, при нажатии Enter
окно исчезает

[Bug 916942] [NEW] HP DV6000 Battery capacity reporting error??

2012-01-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm running 11.10 on my HP DV6000 laptop and I'm having problems with
the way the battery is being managed. The capacity of the battery is not
being reported correctly. I've just fitted a new battery and it was
reading only 70% capacity so I followed the usuall charge overnight then
fully drain and recharge routine and now it is only recording caapacity
of 60.8%. I feel I have already ditched two perfectly O.K batteries due
to this incorrect information. The research I have done seems to
suggest that the bios needs to be upgraded but as I have take out
windows and reformatted the drive that doesn't look like a good idea to
me. There don;t appear to any safe ways to do this under ubuntu. Has
anyone else had the same problem and more to the point solved it? This
is not a new problem . I'm sure it's been an issue for me since Karmic
Koala.

The battery charges OK and runs the machine OK but wants to shut down
well before the battery is flat.

[Bug 916942] Re: HP DV6000 Battery capacity reporting error??

2012-01-20 Thread Colin Downs
I have traced the problem to the gnome-power-manger (power statistics).
which is causing the system to shut down with a reasonably full battery.
I have now flahed the bios which has improved the recording of battery
capacity. The problem seems to occur when the laptop is booted in
battery and before the discharge rate has stabilised.

[Bug 919082] Re: Keyboard layout selector only supports max of 4 layouts

2012-01-20 Thread Alan Bell
I think it might be because the libxklavier engine is reporting it can do a
maximum of 4 keyboard layouts
http://xlibs.freedesktop.org/xkbdesc/doc/libxklavier-xkl-engine.html#xkl-engine-get-max-num-groups
no idea where it gets this from, but the limit does not appear to be in

[Bug 885324] Re: Completely replace lcms1 by lcms2 in Ubuntu

2012-01-20 Thread Till Kamppeter
For the migration of CUPS I got a patch from Koji Otani now which I am
currently applying upstream to the new cups-filters packge (see
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-p-new-cups-
filters-package). As this is not yet packaged for Ubuntu I cannot move
the cups task to cups-filters yet.

[Bug 919168] Re: autoset nautilus --no-desktop

2012-01-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

she's paranoid wnough to actually check my wallpaper every time she logs
 in.

Your Mom knows more about you than you can possibly imagine.

All of this isn't a problem for me and as you (Mark) said, I could just
write a patch for this but I'm just appalled that a CEO of a company
like Canonical has a problem with giving users a very trivial (to
implement) option when they are asking for it.

The cost of options has been widely discussed. We have a firm view on
it, it's my job to lead to that view. You are welcome to fork Unity with
as many trivial (to implement) options as you like.

[Bug 919264] [NEW] gconf2 multiarch cross-compile helper

2012-01-20 Thread Riku Voipio
Public bug reported:

As full multiarch conversion of gconf2 is taking time to happen, please
apply this patch to make installation of foreign arch libgconf2-dev
possible. The two changes are:

make gconf2-common Multi-Arch: foreign.

remove gconf2 dependency from libgconf2-dev

I'm still running an full compile to ensure that the latter does not
cause any FTBFS, but as far as I see, when building software against
libgconf2-dev, one does not use binaries from gonf2.

This is not a private communication ;-)

Folks, we can construct artificial scenarios to make any option
worthwhile. That's not how we do design; instead of celebrating the
unusual and the extreme, we look for the things that most people can
enjoy and use. That's where we focus our energy. The world of Linux and
Ubuntu will always have infinite possibilities for those who want to
explore them, but it's not in our value set to FORCE everyone who takes
a vanilla CD off the shelf to *have to deal* with those possibilities.

This is good practice. It makes Ubuntu grow and achieves our goals as a
community. As a side benefit, it attracts lots of developers who want to
be part of changing the world, and who want to write applications for
those users.

In this case, as was rather eloquently put, we've chosen to treat the
wallpaper as a part of your expression of yourself to others. That's a
perfectly reasonable position to take - look how *proudly* people show
off their wallpapers! We're celebrating that, and elevating that. And we
think this is good. Moreover, we think the position that one would
choose a wallpaper that would cause mortal embarrassment is (a) so
unlikely, and (b) so impossible to enforce, that it does not warrant an
option.

We have a saying - options cost a knuckle, dialogs cost a finger. This
isn't worth a knuckle.

We have FAR more pressing problems on the discretion front. Top of my
list is the fact that we don't map notifications away from projectors.
That's far more risky - you can control your choice of wallpaper, but
you can't control what someone might IM to you while you are making your
critical presentation.

So, please help us address that issue. I'm sure we all agree that's more
important, and perhaps, by the time we come back to this less important
issue, we will all have evolved our positions. OK?

No, of course not. But it's an additional friction for every user of the
system, if we expose it as an option.

We have had a perfectly good (and very insightful) suggestion to use
permissions to cover this. There are some implementation issues with
that, but I'm more happy to cover the cost of the harder implementation
than to ask every single Ubuntu user to have to parse another option.

[Bug 730050] Re: Gwibber has begin service on enter preference, Empathy doesn't

2012-01-20 Thread Pedro Bessa
Empathy has connect automatically on startup.

Empathy launches on startup even if I don't ask.
Empathy connects to the internet on startup only if I ask.

This combination makes my Empathy ready to connect to the internet.

Your solution is good for Empathy and Gwibber.
My similar solution is good for Evolution (Solution #1 at
http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/26709/).

[Bug 880079] Re: bluetooth-applet crashes when trying to browse device

2012-01-20 Thread James M. Leddy
Hi kent,

One of the variables was freed too many times. I think the only reason
that this doesn't fail in precise is because the obex browse actually
succeeds, and as a result the applet doesn't redisplay the dialog. In
any case bluetooth-applet should be fixed to handle this failure case.

[Bug 830840] Re: Chat window will not open

2012-01-20 Thread Tony Maro
This is happening to me as well. As described by Rodrigo, after a
reboot it may work ok for a while. If I click Quit from the chat menu
and launch it again sometimes it works for a while as well.

I've tried launching Empathy from a console to see if it logs anything
but nothing shows.

[Bug 830840] Re: Chat window will not open

2012-01-20 Thread Tony Maro
To bil21al:
Exact steps? Seemed pretty exact above but simply log in to Gnome 3 Shell in
Ubuntu Natty, launch Empathy. Wait a while. Maybe an hour, maybe a day. Try
to chat with someone, no chat window opens. If they send you a chat it pops up
in the Gnome Shell widget thingy at the bottom, but right clicking their name
and picking open from the tray does nothing. Double click their name in the
Empathy user list does nothing.

[Bug 915188] Re: LCD backlight level is reset to maximum after a reboot.

2012-01-20 Thread Bryce Harrington
Generally these types of issues should be analyzed as gnome-power-
manager issues first, then driver issues if g-p-m can be ruled out.

It's possible g-p-m is simply not tracking your backlight settings
correctly, or not updating them properly on reboot.

** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) = gnome-power-
manager (Ubuntu)
