[Bug 682788] Re: Global menu is not ergonomical on large screens
I saw the solution screenshot. It's an icon that shows a non-persistent menu when clicked. If people complain that they're trying hard to target the mouse pointer, because the icon is too small, do as I say: These things are called app buttons. The Firefox app button is the label Firefox inside a button. Make the *app name*'s app button be the label *app name* inside a button. So we would have: close, minimize, maximize, title - app name (as a label inside a button). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682788 Title: Global menu is not ergonomical on large screens To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/682788/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

In Windows, the Firefox app button is on top left. The first problem is caused by the code that adjusts the size of text drawn with a substituted font to match the width in the pdf file. This code matches the width of the letter 'm' in the font with the width in the pdf file. The problem in this case is the pdf file has bogus widths for characters not used included the letter 'm'. The attached patch fixes this by using the first letter of each string to set the font size. The second problem is a cairo bug. In this case the pdf file is stroking the outline of a Type 3 font. Each glyph in the Type 3 font strokes a path. Cairo needs to implement stroke to path to make this work correctly.
