[Bug 682788] Re: Global menu is not ergonomical on large screens

2012-02-15 Thread Pedro Bessa
I saw the solution screenshot. It's an icon that shows a non-persistent
menu when clicked. If people complain that they're trying hard to target
the mouse pointer, because the icon is too small, do as I say:

These things are called app buttons. The Firefox app button is the label
Firefox inside a button. Make the *app name*'s app button be the label
*app name* inside a button. So we would have: close, minimize, maximize,
title - app name (as a label inside a button).

[Bug 878836] Re: Unity Greeter - Use Unity Greeter to fulfil lock screen as well as login functions

2012-02-15 Thread Sebastien Bacher
@pitti: comment #13, right that's known, cf comment #9, for the record
as mentioned on IRC the upload was rather to give it a try and build a
list of issues, things that need to be worked which will be useful to
get the feature in shape later, I don't think we will stick to it for
precise either

marc has been looking at it yesterday and out of the vt switching he
pointed that it would create issues with the user session being
unactivate after the vt switch (i.e audio would stop on idle locking)
and the fact that greeter doesn't respect user settings

[Bug 682788] Re: Global menu is not ergonomical on large screens

2012-02-15 Thread Pedro Bessa
In Windows, the Firefox app button is on top left. Since titles vary in
length and it's good to have the app button always in the same place,
because it makes finding the app button easier, we would better have:
close minimize maximize [app name] title.

[Bug 878836] Re: Unity Greeter - Use Unity Greeter to fulfil lock screen as well as login functions

2012-02-15 Thread Martin Pitt
Disabling the gnome-screensaver part for now.

gnome-screensaver (3.2.0-1ubuntu12) precise; urgency=low

  * Disable 26_lightdm_greeter_on_lock.patch for now. VT switches/multiple
heads are FUBAR on NVidia, and as long as the new greeter X.org
reconfigures XRandR this introduces lots of flickering and long delays.
See #878836 comment 12 ff.

+0100

The indicator-session change can stay, as long as we'll get a
corresponding lightdm which does the screen locking (that's already in
trunk as far as I understand).

[Bug 931656] Re: let's try to update gsd to the current unstable version

2012-02-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-settings-daemon - 3.3.5-0ubuntu1

---
gnome-settings-daemon (3.3.5-0ubuntu1) precise; urgency=low

  * New upstream version (lp: #931656), refreshed patches,
thanks Jeremy Bicha for starting the work on the new version:
- change the sound level by device (lp: #340720)
- correctly unassign keybindings (lp: #515670)
- define keybinding to take a screenshot of a selection (lp: #625518)
- resolve some segfaults (lp: #865286)
  * debian/control.in:
- build-depends on libgudev-1.0-dev
- breaks unity-greeter ( 0.2.1-0ubuntu1) due to the wacom schema rename
- build-depends on libwacom
- updated gtk, gnome-desktop3, g-d-s, upower requirements
  * debian/gnome-settings-daemon.gsettings-override:
- don't set deprecated sleep-inactive-battery key
  * debian/patches/90_set_gmenus_xsettings.patch:
- refreshed, we don't handle gnome-shell xsettings yet because we still
  ship 3.2, that patch will need an update if we go for the new version
  * debian/patches/git_gsettings_write_only_when_required.patch;
debian/patches/50_add_dell_backlight.patch:
- dropped the fix is in the new version
  * debian/patches/47_delay_pa_connect_to_idle.patch:
- commented, will need to be updated if still needed
  * debian/patches/revert_git_datetime_dropping.patch:
- revert the datetime service dropping, ubuntu-system-service doesn't
  implement the timedated interfaces
  * debian/patches/revert_git_dropping_gconf_wrapper.patch:
- revert the gconf code dropping, we might still need the settings
  gateway for the lts (though it's a bit hackish)

adjust substitute font width using first character in each string

There are two problems here:
 1) The hello world text is too narrow
 2) The www.pdflib.com text has spike on each path segment.

The first problem is caused by the code that adjusts the size of text
drawn with a substituted font to match the width in the pdf file. This
code matches the width of the letter 'm' in the font with the width in
the pdf file. The problem in this case is the pdf file has bogus widths
for characters not used included the letter 'm'. The attached patch
fixes this by using the first letter of each string to set the font
size.

The second problem is a cairo bug. In this case the pdf file is stroking
the outline of a Type 3 font. Each glyph in the Type 3 font strokes a
path. Cairo needs to implement stroke to path to make this work
correctly.

[Bug 878836] Re: Unity Greeter - Use Unity Greeter to fulfil lock screen as well as login functions

2012-02-15 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
@Sebastien ...it would create issues with the user session being
unactivate after the vt switch (i.e audio would stop on idle
locking)... Would that explain why my alarm-clock-applet didn't go off
this morning until I logged back in? If so, then I'm guessing that's a
known issue and I might not have to file a bug for it, then.

Sidebars are meant to be easy ways to access a folder, and as such, do not get
the same context menu entries as the primary view; this is not a bug.
