[Bug 929585] Re: The system settings window is a bit too small after Ubuntu's changes

2012-02-16 Thread Aurélien Gâteau
Thanks for the feedback. I was asking about the resolution because right
now when running on a netbook-sized screen, which do not have enough
space for the window, the patch maximizes the window. In this situation
you get scrollbars but that cannot be avoided.

What you report is different however: when there is enough room around,
System Settings indeed uses a fixed size (it was doing this before the
patch as well). I thought I increased it enough but obviously it needs a
few more pixels. Will look into this.

[Bug 22483] Re: Rhythmbox has case-sensitivity

2012-02-16 Thread Chris Wilson
A couple of points raised upstream:

I think this isn't a bug because there are unique artists with no difference
except capitalization, for example HiM
(http://musicbrainz.org/showartist.html?artistid=119294) and HIM
(http://musicbrainz.org/showartist.html?artistid=1881)

How about just fixing your tags? Multiple entries are just Rhythmbox' way of
showing you that you're being messy.

We shouldn't be trying to update the user's tags based on their case -
they may want them that way. No other music manager that I'm aware of
(I've used Rhythmbox, Banshee, iTunes, Zune and Windows Media Player) do
that because it's contrary to what the user expects to happen when they
import their library. Rhythmbox is just a manager - its sole job is to
interpret the existing tags, not what it thinks the user wants them to
be.

[Bug 933333] [NEW] Empathy open conversation window off screen after monitor is disconnected

2012-02-16 Thread Chris January
Public bug reported:

It looks like Empathy tries to restore the previous position of
conversation windows (i.e. the position the window had the last time you
had a conversation window). If that position was originally on an
external monitor and later the monitor is disconnected then Empathy
still tries to open the window at the same position, i.e. off screen and
in GNOME 3 it is difficult to move it back.

[Bug 933338] [NEW] Account window doesn't always open if empathy-accounts is already running

Selecting Edit-Accounts often doesn't open the Accounts window if

window does not open.

another time just after startup, when I clicked the send/receive
button. (evo-send-receive.txt).

[Bug 923940] [NEW] Ubuntu 12.04 LTS set max lcd brightness on every boot

2012-02-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm on:
Linux 3.2.0-12-generic-pae #20-Ubuntu SMP Sat Jan 28 01:10:59 UTC 2012 i686

I solve the issue editing the file
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
adding this line echo 4 /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
(without quotes)
(i use 4 because is value in the middle, in fact 0 is the lower and 8 is the
higher)

Probably there are a better ways to solve this issue (i hope...)

Re: [Bug 780117] Re: Brasero finishes without error but unusable media [on-the-fly mode] (Ubuntu 11.04-11.10)

2012-02-16 Thread Nico Zanferrari
2012/2/15 Ayan George ayan.geo...@canonical.com:
 ** Changed in: brasero (Ubuntu)
Assignee: (unassigned) = Ayan George (ayan)

Hi Ayan,

thank you for your support!

I've written to you in order to let you know of other tests I've done
following some hints from Luis Medinas lmedi...@gnome.org. I'm
writing the results down here - I hope they're useful.

Best regards, and let me know if I can help you somehow,
Nico

**

On my updated Ubuntu 11.10 32 bit:

1) In dconf-editor I've changed:

apps - brasero -plugin

growisofs priority to 50 (before it was 0)
wodim priority to -50 (before it was 0)

-- same problem of unreadable DVD without any error from the program.

2) setting

growisofs priority to -50
wodim priority to 50

gives a visual error around 60% of the process : stderr: wodim: Cannot
fixate disk.

Even with growisofs there's some setup that might solve your problem...
 check on dconf-editor - org - gnome -brasero - config - dao_flag

also you have other options here that might help you solve the problem

3) I've tried to set all the flags there:

dao-flag + immed-flag + raw-flag

-- same problem of unreadable DVD without any error from the program.

I suggest you to try cdrecord not wodim (cdrkit) which comes installed
 by default on Ubuntu.

4) This is not so clear to me... I had a look in the Software Center
but I cannot find anything ready to install.
Googling around I've found that in a PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ferramroberto/cdrtools
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cdrecord cdda2wav mkisofs
+ reboot

The installed cdrecord is now 3.0.0. I cannot find any cdrecord entry
in dconf-editor.
I tried with the normal settings, but:

-- same problem of unreadable DVD without any error from the program.

[Bug 933304] [NEW] Ubuntu Precise 12.04 remote desktop options not in system settings where you would expect

2012-02-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu 12.04 does not have any remote desktop options in the system
settings section where I would expect them to be. They currently have to
be configured ueing a separate Desktop Sharing application. This
should be integrated into the System Settings section, probably under
what was the screen section, which has now been renamed to brightness
and lock (which is not particularly a good name as birghtness is only
there on laptops and so may confuse people).

2012-02-16 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Bump. It seems to me that the fix has been available for some 18
months now, and it's still not fixed in the LTS. Who should I complain
to? (-:

Complaining will not help resolving the fact that people are busy and
that they are bugs over the volunteers working on Ubuntu, you are
welcome to contribute and help getting the bug fixing though, or if you
want to complain I guess you can buy support from Canonical or a
another company supporting Ubuntu and get them to work on getting it
resolved

[Bug 401823] Re: Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

2012-02-16 Thread A. Eibach
@Chinmay

Well, I don't know about at .deb, but there is a package of the 10.3 player
(the FINAL version)
called flash-plugin-10.3.183.11-release.i386.rpm.

Just for test I tried installing it with
$ rpm -i --force-debian --nodeps flash-plugin-10.3.183.11-release.i386.rpm

and what I can I say, it worked! =D
For IceWeasel, I just had to symlink from
/usr/lib/flash-plugin/libflashplayer.so to /usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins and voila!
BTW, don't be worried about the --nodeps override; RPM cannot correctly
detect dependencies on Debian and even does not know about existence of a sane
libc6/libstdc++/whatever system, so it generally assumes you have literally
none of the above. Though you do have those and they work.)

-

Besides, there is also a v11 package out meanwhile:
flashplayer-mozilla_11.1.102.55-0.2_i386.deb
This time, for IceWeasel, symlink from
/usr/lib/flashplayer-mozilla/libflashplayer.so to said Iceweasel plugins
directory.

FWIW. Though it must be noted that it did not make these stupid error
messages disappear.

I was able to consistently reproduce this when bug 933026 was flagged by
apport.

NULL VMA looks suspiciously like something particular to metadata on
affected systems creating an OOB situation somewhere.

[Bug 933533] [NEW] Inform the user gnome-user-share is needed!

2012-02-16 Thread Ego
Public bug reported:

User pairs the device and can send files to the device or browse the
device with press on a button.

User then wants to send file to Ubuntu but it can't. There is no
information available that user needs to install gnome-user-share
package and in Personal File Sharing he must then enable option:

-Receive files in Downloads folder over Bluetooth.

I think this information should be mentioned in GUI tool!

You don't have the ability to block yahoo contact requests anymore. You

you start up Empathy you get asked by the same contacts. This worked in

[Bug 899858] Re: regression in gvfs to connect/browse using obex

2012-02-16 Thread Ego
I tested this in Ubuntu 11.10 and Ubuntu 12.04 and got the same result.
Then based on workaround from this bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/obexd/+bug/872044

I tested it again. With disabling SSP the device is shown in Nautilus
but browsing does not work but with disabled SSP there is one
difference.

$ gvfs-mount obex://[B8:F9:34:44:B4:10]
Error mounting location: Connection refused

This problem is gone but there is another one:

Error mounting location: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply:
Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application
did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply,
the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

Using obexfs and mounting the device enables browsing the device with
Nautilus!

[Bug 933544] [NEW] Digest email of 22 items crashes preview panel

2012-02-16 Thread Alexandra Crawford
Public bug reported:

Today I received a Yahoo group digest (WasteWatts) of 22 items. The
preview panel crashed and would not preview any other individual mail
item. I deleted the mail item and closed Evolution before restarting.
The problem has been cleared.

Unfortunately I have not got the time to investigate a repetition
profile of the error, but I believe that such a crash is rare given the
established nature of Evolution. If there is a cause it should be easy
to identify given the limited resources of this laptop and the handling
of those resources by Evolution via UBUNTU 11.10 Kernel v3

With thanks.
