[Bug 933995] Re: Long file names move other columns out of view

2012-02-17 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 933947] Re: All Settings button on main screen is useless

2012-02-17 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks Jeremy, Ccing design but some comments:

When System Settings is in overview mode, showing all of the available
panels, the All Settings button is present but nothing happens when it's
clicked. A button that does nothing when clicked is frustrating and it's
a very prominent button.

That's not so much a button that a location indication, when you open
nautilus the breadcum displaying the current dir as well...

I'd like to propose that we hide the All Settings button when in the
overview mode, which is what upstream does.

That would be weird and not how i.e nautilus use its breadcumb,
consistency is good

Another useless button is the current panel name. As in the Appearance button
in All SettingsAppearance. This might be improved by showing the button
 pressed in like Nautilus does.

Well again, it's not so much of a button than an indication of where you
stand ;-) The button style and ui needs to be improved, we landed the
change in a rough way before ff

The more I think about it, the more I think GNOME 3.4's symbolic view
grid button does pretty good at conveying the same information in far
less space, especially as there are only 2 levels in the hierarchy (the
overview and the individual panel view).

Well I think one of the issue with the upstream way is that if you open
directly a capplet (i.e the background one) and click on the 'all
settings' (or now grid icon) which brings you back to the g-c-c grid
it's hard to figure what happened and how to go back where you were, the
breadcumb gives you logical representation of where you stand which is
much easier to understand

ie. having [ system settings ] [ background ] with the first button
selected let you easily go back to background or figure what happens,
you just went down one level

[Bug 934076] [NEW] [breadcrumb] need visual tweaks to the buttons

2012-02-17 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

Using gnome-control-center 1:3.3.5-0ubuntu2

Comment from the merge request:

This is not complete: the pointy arrow effect is missing. This should
be implemented by the theme engine. The patch sets the linked and
breadcrumbs GTK style classes. The linked class is implemented by
Adwaita: when using this theme the buttons looks like segmented
buttons.

in a guest session here...

[Bug 929585] Re: The system settings window is a bit too small after Ubuntu's changes

Seb, in my test I had set the document font to Ubuntu 11 but the default
font to Cantarell 11. If i set the default font to Ubuntu 11 there is no
scrollbar. So I guess this is definitely fixed for the default
configuration.

[Bug 934192] [NEW] Files and fields with portuguese characters corrupts the database and idv (2/3?)

2012-02-17 Thread Almufadado
Public bug reported:

I have my Ubuntu 10.10 in portuguese language and I often use portuguese
characters like á ã é ó ê ç and also I have mp3 files mfrom PT
brasil, swedish, noruegian, eslavic languages, spanish (ñ) korean,
chinese and even japanese.

Since some rhythmbox upgrades ago my massive database get corrupted and
all files are taken from the database (with a big CPU stress) and after
close and re-opening the app many files that include non-english (lol)
characters have the field(s) containing those characters removed and
idv tag is replace with whatever (sending a lot of work to the place
where idv3 tags go to die).

Files in my file system ext4 are ok . Files in my NTFS partitions are
also ok (in all languages) I have checked !

[Bug 298902] Re: Closing lid after telling computer to shut down results in hibernate

2012-02-17 Thread Jay S
This still happens to me sometimes in Ubuntu 11.04 on a Dell Vostro V13.

I have my laptop lid close event set to Suspend, and when I manually
choose to Hibernate and quickly shut the lid, sometimes it only goes
into Suspend. I only find this out later, usually after the battery has
died.

Sorry I don't have more details, it doesn't happen every time.

[Bug 934284] [NEW] gnome-control-center crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

2012-02-17 Thread Deon Rodden
Public bug reported:

The ATI proprietary driver failed to load after an update to Ubuntu. I
had to go to the CLI and remove FGLRX* and switch back to the generic
open source driver. I was able to get back into Xorg/Gnome without
issues but the monitors were in mirror mode. I went in to displays and
unchecked Mirror Displays and rearranged the monitors accordingly.
Suddenly this popup that it had crashed (but the window never closed and
it did what it was supposed to) came up.

[Bug 934343] [NEW] ICQ: encoding error while moving a buddy from the group to another one

2012-02-17 Thread Anton Zaviyalov
Public bug reported:

I'm russian and using ICQ. If a try to move a buddy with cyrillic
nickname from the group to another one, nickname turns into symbols. For

description).

Cyrillic), the messages are okay.

[Bug 75654] Re: deleted songs listed again when using library watch

2012-02-17 Thread Waldir
There's also the case when people have non-music files in their music
folders. For instance, I have a few text files with some music-related
notes, which keep getting re-added and treated as import errors. But
perhaps this is a different bug...

[Bug 917344] Re: gedit crashed with SIGABRT: (tp != NULL)

2012-02-17 Thread Curtis Hovey
This is not a bug in gedit.

The issue was caused by a chain of python imports in the set of plugins I was
running. This specific problem was cause by bzr-dbus and bzr-notify both of
which had fallback conditions to import from old gtk or old gobject.

I located the problem imports by placing a pdb debug statement before the
assert in both the gtk and gobject gi modules. I then recreated the failure to
view the true stacktrace

[Bug 921061] Re: Improve appearance of category headers

2012-02-17 Thread Dylan McCall
Tobias, that's due to this patch:
https://code.launchpad.net/~agateau/gnome-menus/directory-suffix/+merge/91663
I filed bug #934335 asking to move the icons to hicolor, so other icon themes
don't need to worry about all of this.

There is also probably a bug to file against gnome-control-center. I can
totally understand doing it with the -directory suffix for now (because
it's easier to manage and all that), but we shouldn't encourage
applications to misuse icons.uffix for now (because it's easier to
manage and all that), but we shouldn't encourage applications to misuse
icons.

[Bug 934361] [NEW] Appearance settings looks awkward outside Unity

2012-02-17 Thread Dylan McCall
Public bug reported:

Using Gnome Shell, Appearance Settungs looks quite broken. It is still
using the patched settings panel (which was designed for Unity), but
with various elements unceremoniously removed.

The horizontal separator above Theme is off balance, especially with the
Adwaita theme. It should probably be removed in this case as well.

The shrunken wallpaper grid and preview is unnecessary: these two can be
returned to their original proportions (and the bottom margin for the
combo box returned), since fewer controls are visible here.
