[Bug 949216] Re: software center doesn t work ubuntu 11.10

2012-03-08 Thread Vadim Rutkovsky
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 949729] [NEW] package gconf2 3.2.3-3ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 127

2012-03-08 Thread Olivier Cortès
Public bug reported:

I was upgrading from up-to-date Oneiric to Precise, in a « Parallels
Desktop 7.0.150154 Mac » virtual machine if that matters.

Oneiric worked perfectly so far under Parallels Desktop.

Note: when `do-release-upgrade` finished, I told it not to reboot
immediately. I ran `sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgconf-2-4`, and
the installation went fine, without the error reported during the
upgrade process.

[Bug 949748] [NEW] Evolution does not obey xmodmap changes on external mouse

2012-03-08 Thread Thomas Schiex
Public bug reported:

I report this strange bug as an evolution bug, but it may also be in
xserver-xorg or xserver-xorg-input-evdev bug.
Hard to guess for me.

I use a laptop with a multitouch trackpad and a bluetooth apple mouse
(which is therefore plugged after X has started).

For information, this is what Xorg says when the mouse connects by
Bluetooth:

[43.751] (II) config/udev: Adding input device apple’s Mouse

[43.751] (**) evdev: apple’s Mouse: YAxisMapping: buttons 4 and 5
[43.751] (**) evdev: apple’s Mouse: EmulateWheelButton: 4,

[43.751] (**) Option config_info

[43.751] (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device apple’s Mouse (type:

[43.751] (**) apple’s Mouse: (accel) acceleration factor: 2.000
[43.751] (**) apple’s Mouse: (accel) acceleration threshold: 4

On evolution, issuing xmodmap command affects the way the trackpad
events are received but does not change the way the bluetooth mouse
events are received.

To make things clearer...

 - if I issue a
 xmodmap -e pointer = 1 2 3 4 5
then the wheel events are working as expected with both the trackpad and the
mouse, under all software (including evolution).

 - If I issue a
  xmodmap -e pointer = 1 2 3 5 4
then the wheel events are inverted, as expected, with both the trackpad and the
mouse on all software... but not on evolution.

There, the trackpad generated events are inverted as expected but the
mouse generated events are not. The situation is even more puzzling:

In the left (mailboxes) windows and in the upper right (mail header
lines) windows, the trackpad is inverted but not the external mouse.

In the bottom right window (current mail), the trackpad works fine
(inverted) but the mouse wheel generates no true movement: the lines
just go up and down rapidly so the window shivers but does not move
overall. It looks like it gets a pair of events, one up and own down at
each event.

To conclude this test, I borrowed a USB mouse and plugged it in. This
generated the following Xorg log:

[Bug 510059] Re: Gvfs keeps asking for password when trying to mount Samba share

2012-03-08 Thread Ulf Tidstrand
The solution in comment #29 worked for me in 12.04. However, one of my
accounts still had problems (while other accounts on the same machine
worked OK). It turned out that there was a local smb.conf file in the
.smb directory of the account's home directory. I simply removed the
entire .smb directory and then the global settings in
/etc/samba/smb.conf had effect.

I guess you can enter the settings in comment #29 to the local file as
well, but I have not tried that...

[Bug 949751] Possible regression detected

This crash has the same stack trace characteristics as bug #912116.
However, the latter was already fixed in an earlier package version than
the one in this report. This might be a regression or because the
problem is in a dependent package.

[Bug 932935] Re: nautilus ftp file transfer hangs

2012-03-08 Thread Frederik Elwert
Adam: You’re right, it only hangs when copying directories. Single files
work fine.

Strange thing is that nautilus actually created the target directory and
transferred two of the contained files before it hang.

** Summary changed:

- nautilus ftp file transfer hangs
+ nautilus ftp file transfer hangs when transferring directories

[Bug 902674] Re: evince cuts off part of the text of http://cm.bell-labs.com/cm/cs/cstr/41.pdf.

2012-03-08 Thread madbiologist
This is still occurring on Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin beta 1. The
right margin and the top margin are cut off, just like in the screenshot
attached to comment #1.

Packages: evince 3.3.90-0ubuntu2
  libpoppler19 0.18.4-1ubuntu1
  libcairo2 1.10.2-6.1ubuntu2

[Bug 938076] Re: Auto-lock on suspend is still needed when encrypting file system

2012-03-08 Thread Marc Deslauriers
OK, I have had some more time to think this over. My proposal in comment
#6 is very intrusive and would change a lot of upstream code this late
in the cycle. Here is an even better proposal:

1- Add a new gsettings key called lock-on-suspend, which defaults to
true. This would revert us back to Oneiric behaviour

2- If we can get a UI exception, we simply add a new toggle switch to
the brightness and lock applet with a Lock screen on suspend label

This should take care of all the usage scenarios, while minimizing the
changes to the upstream gnome code.

mpt, would that be acceptable?

[Bug 938076] Re: Auto-lock on suspend is still needed when encrypting file system

2012-03-08 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Please correct me if this summary of the problem is wrong:
1. If startup requires a password, waking from suspend should require that
password too.
2. However, Ubuntu (unlike OS X, for example) isn't smart enough to tell or
specify whether startup requires a password, let alone to use the same password
automatically.
3. Therefore, Ubuntu should offer the next best thing -- an extra option to
require your login password when waking from suspend.
4. Turning on this option should not also require entering your password when
returning from the display turning off, because that's much more likely to be a
momentary accident than going into suspend is.

If that summary is correct, the main problem is the step from 2 to 3.
You would have to enter one password when returning from suspend, and a
different password in a different UI when returning from hibernate, and
that would be silly.

If that's the way you want to go, though, here's a sketch of how it
could be presented in the current panel. (Disclaimer: this sketch is not
an endorsement of the idea of putting brightness and lock settings in
the same panel, which is obviously bonkers. I'm assuming moving them at
this point would be too invasive.)

Behavior notes:
- Whenever Turn off the screen when inactive is unchecked, its own menu and
Turning the screen on again should both be insensitive.
- Whenever Turn off the screen when inactive is checked, the Inactive for:
menu should not contain any periods shorter than the current Turn off the
screen when inactive for: value, because they would have no effect. And if the
previous selection was one of the values that is removed, Inactive for should
become unchecked.
