[Bug 861389] Re: after screen dims (idle / screensaver), cannot rebrighten it

2012-03-25 Thread gusse02
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 872652 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/872652

Is it really a duplicate? This bug is about dim/undim, the other bug is
about blanking screen so it goes all black. Am I wrong?

Anyway, my screen dims and do not undim as it should. Tried
logout/login, suspend resume. No luck. I'm on kernel 3.0.0-16-generic in
Ubuntu 11.10. The other bug should be fixed in kernel 3.0.0.15.

[Bug 712103] Re: unlocking dialog doesn't show

2012-03-25 Thread Reinhard Tartler
I experience this in precise, but only when running a unity session, and
also not really reliably on two (sandy-bridge) systems.

One system is a desktop PC running a radeon 6670 graphics card. There, I
experienced this each time when resuming after suspending the machine
reliably. Switching from unity to gnome3 seems to help.

The other system is a laptop that was recently upgraded to precise. I
have added a session item that locks the screen when logging in (because
the system is configured to auto-login). Here, the described symptom
happens already at login time.

[Bug 527157] Re: Brightness controls skips Levels.

2012-03-25 Thread James H
This patch is for GNOME 3.2 that permanently disables gnome-settings-
deamon's ability to step-up and step-down the backlight. For those who
still can't get the correct brightness steps, this is a workaround. It
works perfectly on my Lenovo Thinkpad x220.

I'm not usually a code hacker or patcher, so feel free to make
corrections if it isn't formatted correctly.

This was tested on the current Debian Wheezy GNOME 3.2 environment, but
I thought that you Ubuntu folks could benefit from it as well.

[Bug 964507] [NEW] cannot dragdrop files onto bookmarks

2012-03-25 Thread cellstorm
Public bug reported:

1) Ubuntu 12.04, all updates till date.

2 ) nautilus 1:3.3.92-0ubuntu2

3) I open a nautilus window. It starts up with home folder selected. I
click on a file in the home folder and dragdrop it onto one of my
bookmarked folders. Depending if the file is on my local partition or on
annother one (also network), the file gets copied of moved there.

4) I open a nautilus window. It starts up with home folder selected. I
click on a file in the home folder and dragdrop it onto one of my
bookmarked folders. I can see the Icon floating back to its position
where I started to drag it. the Bookmarks section does not accept
dragdrop.

the Computer section supports it, though. Also, this was working in gtk2
nautilus without problems..

2012-03-25 Thread Nico Zanferrari
YES, I do confirm both solutions:

- the bring-again-to-life commands for RW disks of Tom Jaeger (thjaeger)
on
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/780117/comments/17

- the libisofs low priority fix of Cyrus Lien (cyruslien)

I've tested both on an fresh USB Live of Ubuntu 11.10.

Do you think this should be applied as a fix?

[Bug 964555] [NEW] Totem shows wrong frame when pausing

2012-03-25 Thread Octavian Damiean
Public bug reported:

Basically when I watch a video and use the seeker to move back and then
pause, Totem will jump back to the location I moved it to, resuming
the video will start from that wrong location again.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Select a video and play it.
2. Pause the video.
3. Move the seeker backwards to some random location.
4. Resume the video.
5. Pause the video again.

Sometimes it will show you the location you have moved back to.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

2012-03-25 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security

[Bug 958776] Re: Windows on new laptop

2012-03-25 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

Seems to affect MSN messenger, in the way that it no longer updates the

Strangely enough, it started when I added my Facebook account (I
think!). From memory, I don't think it happens when my internet
disconnects, but I cannot always confirm if that's when it occurs.

[Bug 964186] Re: commit to fix Don't hide Open With applications for subtypes of application/x-desktop also removed Open with on directories

2012-03-25 Thread Doug McMahon
** Description changed:

The context menu option to open folders with something other than
nautilus, while not necessary , is a useful option for many users.

The question would be was that part of the commit needed to fix the
handling of 'non-desktop' desktop files such as index.theme

At least here, reverting the view part of the commit suggests it wasn't,
an open with context menu option ability to fully view open a
.theme file from nautilus seem to co-exist fine.

So the purpose of this report is that, did the context menu option need
  to be removed?

Preferences - Latex Plugin - Preferences it crashes. Here is the

2012-03-25 Thread Pedro Bessa
my solution - ellipse.png is attached
best solution - https://launchpadlibrarian.net/97878037/LIM%20button.png

Tell Marco Trevisan: If the LIM button at
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/97878037/LIM%20button.png appears in
Precise Pangolin, you can safely say it's a main feature like Ubuntu
HUD, because you saw the global menu bug report heat. Your patch was
near the LIM button, so you have 80% of the code for the LIM button
already done. We weren't expecting you to have that, so we said that the
LIM button won't be in 12.04. Keep the global menu bug report heat in
mind. Keep the end of april which is the precise pangolin release date
in mind. Please, implement the LIM button ASAP!

[Bug 952314] Re: CMapCache::getCMap SEGV with 'Creusage_-_Tunnel_sous_la_Manche.pdf'

2012-03-25 Thread Adrian Bunk
I ran into the same segfault with another document, and for both
documents the crash goes away and the document gets shown properly after
downgrading libpoppler19 to the unmodified 0.18.4-1 package from Debian
experimental.

When I recompile the poppler 0.18.4-1 package from Debian experimental
on my up-to-date amd64 precise and install the libpoppler19 binary
package built, xpdf does crash on both documents.

Can someone confirm that observation?

It smells like a bug in Ubuntu's gcc to me (but I might be wrong on
that).

[Bug 964733] [NEW] display forgets last resolution, unlocks in default SVGA

2012-03-25 Thread 4listair
Public bug reported:

I have marked this against 'gnome-control-center display' however the
root cause may be elsewhere, so feel free to correct.

Actions (happens every time):
1. Leave PC running but to save power switch off desplay (VGA-connected Samsung
1100MB at 1920x1440).
2. Do some thing else, like sleep.
3. Return to PC; switch monitor on.
4. Move mouse to wake up display.
5. login screen comes up in SVGA/800x600 (?), having 'forgotten' last
resolution.
6. login and desktop comes up, also at SVGA resolution
7. from the on-screen top-right 'power button', select 'displays'
8. gnome-control-center appers with the 'display window' and immeditaely,
automatically goes (back) to 1920x1440.
9. close gnome-control-center and continue to work.

This has only happened with 12.04, I guess I should have reported it
sooner - it is annoying. The only thing I have found similar in earlier
distros (and with 12.04) is if I cold-start the PC before switching the
monitor on. In those cases, I must power up the monitor first, before
BIOS in order for it to boot straight to 1920x1440.

Now, thinking that I might be tripping that cold-boot case, I made sure
that I powered up the monitor before moving the mouse (or touching
anything else) in steps 3,4 to 'wake up' the PC - but that made no
difference.

Graphics are via Intel Sandy Bridge built-in HD 3000.

[Bug 708382] Re: cannot create custom preferred applications

2012-03-25 Thread Vanessa Cox
Redirected from Bug #729603, the default mail and browser applications
can not be changed, this should NOT be wishlist - there is no point
having an option to set a default browser when there is only one
possible option!

This is a severe usability issue and should be considered as such.

[Bug 708382] Re: cannot create custom preferred applications

2012-03-25 Thread Sean DS
Also I noticed this, I have a windows partition and I can't change my
default calendar from OUTLOOK, I have never used outlook but yet there
it is WHAT?

Also changing it is a non trivial job based on update-alternatives, not
something I want to do in front of new users of ubuntu who also have
outlook on there MS partitions...

Please lets see this bug fixed for Precise...

[Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working - two syndaemon instances running

2012-03-25 Thread Mark Grosen
I am still having this problem on hp dv6t laptop running 12.04. I
believe I have the latest gnome-settings-daemon:

linux% dpkg-query -l | grep gnome-settings
ii gnome-settings-daemon 3.3.92-0ubuntu2
daemon handling the GNOME session settings

It seems to happen after waking from suspend. From a fresh reboot,
things work fine, but soon after a wakeup, the lost sync messages start
coming and the keyboard is annoyingly hard to use.
