[Bug 879632] Re: 'quick open' and 'file browser panel' conflict

2012-03-29 Thread Doug McMahon
Luciano -
IF I were you I'd ck. out 12.04 when it releases, overall vastly superior to
11.10 though as usual there were a few 'take aways'

Otherwise maybe they will fix 11.10, there's no reason it shouldn't have
worked, 'Gedit.py' is in 11.10's gedit source, it just isn't installed
with the 11.10 package

You could easily build 11.10's gedit source (or 3.2.6) install, it
would then work. It's also likely you could build 11.10's gedit source
just copy the Gedit.py files to the appropriate places.

I use 12.04 but booted to a live 11.10 session did both of the above,
(installed, copied), after a logout both ways worked, which is better
??, I likely do a build install

[Bug 527157] Re: Brightness controls skips Levels.

2012-03-29 Thread Dmitriy Geels
James: no, there is no need to touch kernel. You should have noticed,
that brightness control works as expected, before you login (during boot
or even on login screen).

Problem is in user-level process running during user session. We have to
find that process, than fix will be pretty simple.

See plugins/media-keys/gsd-media-keys-manager.c:1528, function
do_screen_brightness_action_real(): looks like it is correct place for patch.
Later I will think on good solution.

[Bug 966147] Re: no longer displays saved PDF form content

2012-03-29 Thread Sebastien Bacher
What about trying to be constructive rather than ranting there? First
you could report your upstream bugs to upstream, that would increase the
changes to deal with somebody who knows the software rather than with
ubuntu triagers who do their best but are not writting the code you
complain about.

Did you also try to downgrade evince to the oneiric version to see if
that fixes it or if that's an issue with poppler or something else?

Any chance you could start control centre from terminal, recreate the

Right, that bug is very frustrating because it mixes confusing comments

topic it seems you both are the only ones to get the issue and both use
powerpc, I guess it's somewhat a powerpc issue, could one of you get a
stacktrace of those warning using gdb?

[Bug 746603] Re: empathy crashed with SIGABRT in raise()

2012-03-29 Thread Sascha Biermanns
1) Ubuntu 12.04 LTS - just after a fresh installation and with all the
newest updates

2) empathy: Installiert: 3.3.92-0ubuntu3
unity-2d: Installiert: 5.8.0-0ubuntu1

3) You just start a new Unity 2D session.

4) Within two minutes after the start, you have this bugreport coming
up.

How to get this bug
Before this bug is triggered, you have first to logout from a Unity 2D session
- and then start a new one from LightDM. Now within 2 minutes, you normally
should get this bug and send here.
Condition: In the old session, you had empathy running, while in the new
session you yet didn't start it. Sounds weird but is a fact.
The bug does not occure, if the Unity 2D session is the first one after a cold
start of the computer.

[Bug 965641] Re: Gnome control center crashes in bluetooth applet while clicking on the sound settings of a bluetooth headset

2012-03-29 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 962958] [NEW] Touchpad in macbook pro gets clicked all the time randomly when typing

2012-03-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The touchpad is supposed to be disabled when typing text, but isn't and
texts get randomly selected, deleted, cursor moved, inserted elsewhere
etc. due to spurious clicks the proximity of the hand causes on
touchpad.

I do have disable touchpad while typing set to true in mouse settings
-touchpad. (btw, I am curious why this setting even present given I
couldn't imagine anyone wanting to switch it off, even when gaming - I
think I will file a separate bug).

This happens so often, like every few secs when typing, that it's super
annoying to the point of not being able to use the laptop.

The only way out is to disable Enable mouse click with touchpad
setting. Then, it's very hard to use touchpad on macbookpro because of
the amount of physical clicks involved in middle of the touchpad making
select-and-drag kind of operations almost impossible. Either way, it's
unusable, so I recomment higher severity for this bug.

I am running 12.04, updated like yesterday, but I have seen this happen
before in 12.04. So, I don't think this is due to last release. The
macbook pro I have is, I think version 8,2. Please let me know if more
info is needed from me. Thanks.

[Bug 968089] [NEW] -x option gone, still used in gsettings-desktop-schemas

2012-03-29 Thread Stephan Peijnik
Public bug reported:

It seems as if the -x command line option, used for specifying which command
to execute upon startup of gnome-terminal has been removed as version 3.4.0.1.
However, gsettings-desktop-schemas uses this option by default in
org.gnome.desktop.default-applications.terminal.exec-arg.

The question which needs to be answered is whether gsettings-desktop-
schemas is wrong (I doubt that) or if someone has removed the -x

reason.

[Bug 801763] Re: Typing causes cursor to stick

2012-03-29 Thread Naba Kumar
Hi,

By reducing the upstream default 2 sec timout, this fix introduces a
severe usability issue for macbook pro users like me. See lp #962958.

Getting to your original bug:

1.) Type a few key strokes.
2.) Try to move the cursor using the touchpad.

That issue can be easily fixed by adding -t option to syndaemon launch
without changing the default timeout. -t option ensures the mouse is
movable during the timeout, but will prevent any accidental clicks. So,
if you are worried about mouse movement only during that 2 sec, this is
better way to patch.

[Bug 962958] Re: Touchpad in macbook pro gets clicked all the time randomly when typing

2012-03-29 Thread Naba Kumar
Apparently, the above patch was introduced as a response to bug #801763.
The right way to have fixed that bug would have been to introduce -t
option to syndaemon, rather than reducing the timeout. And I think it
should be fixed in upstream g-s-d because I can understand that bug
being sometimes annoying as well (but not as bad as this one).

I think I will file a bug upstream for that, but meantime, please
restore the default 2s timeout by removing that patch in bug #801763 and
perhaps introduce temporary patch for -t option until upstream settles
it. Thank you all for you attention, and looking forward to the fix :).

2012-03-29 Thread Sebastien Bacher
no, therre is no warranty bug since we didn't add any distro change to
the code this cycle you have a 95% probability it's an upstream bug, you
can play your odds ... or not

yes you already stated it's a regression, it would be useful to know if
the regression is in evince or poppler or somewhere else, trying if the
evince version from oneiric works on precise would rule the others out

Probably some non-free partitioning tools produce nested though valid
partition scheme involving nested partitions. That is there is a
reference for extended partition of type 0x0f in MBR that refers to
another partition (/dev/sda2 in my case) that has only single record in
EBR of type 0x05 and all other extended partition are within that and
are not linked from very first EBR.

This leads to incorrect report of valid partitions as if they have
partition type 0x05. This breaks some things in gnome environment in
particular like https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-disk-
utility/+bug/571038 .

I'm running udisks 1.0.2, gvfs 1.8.0, no libatasmart installed

I'm not familiar with the code well and this patch is far from being
final. It is just to demonstrate the issue. It helps to discover some
other partitions. Also it reports correct partition type for my
/dev/sda5 i.e. 0x83 instead of 0x05 .

This is for comparison with previous one. You can see that original
report 0x05 for my root on /dev/sda5 and this make libgdu to confuse a
lot.

While second hexdump looks like mbr, in fact it is not. Also note that
consequent ebr points to another ebr using partition type 0x05 again.
That is crazy!

[Bug 966704] Re: Settings schema org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.updates is missing

2012-03-29 Thread Richard Hughes
Sebastien, that's not really the way you disable things in g-s-d. Schema
can't be shipped by other programs into the g-s-d namespace. If you want
to disable shipping the auto-updates plugin that's fine, but the schema
has to be installed otherwise other programs that rely on it are going
to start crashing.

[Bug 878198] Re: Difficult to grab window borders in unity-2d

2012-03-29 Thread steros
Not to be rude, but changing importance to low is highly questionable.
Resizing a window is a main task, if it wasn't then you would not need windows
anyhow.
Also a lot of people have this problem.

Please rethink this desicion as it is a highly annoying bug.
