[Bug 974938] [NEW] Process gsettings prevents logging in
Public bug reported: When I try to login with my newly upgraded Ubuntu 12.04 (development branch), nothing happens. It just shows the same empty background that LightDm has. I have found one solution to get myself logged: If I go to virtual console and display what processes I have, there are about six processes, and one of them is gsettings. It does not consume any CPU resources, and when I kill it (with -3), the login process immediately continues and finally gets me logged in. To my knowledge, gsettings comes from package libglib2.0-bin and I have version 2.32.0-1ubuntu1 of it. How to reproduce: 1 Try to log in. 2 Wait for several minutes to be sure it is stuck 3 Go to virtual console and killall -3 gsettings 4 Logging in immediately continues and finally completes in few seconds Possible causes: 1 I'm using LDAP. My user information comes from LDAP-server, and this has caused lots of other logging problems, thanks to software developers not realizing the fact, that people use stuff like LDAP. 2 I had some problems when upgrading to 12.04, so that might have screwed things up. The funny thing is, that logging in works on my other PC, which has almost identical system and package configuration. ..looks like some misunderstanding. If i try to help making ubuntu better and issue a problem with 'n a t u r a l scrolling' doesn't mean 'smooth scrolling'. Thats a difference as between appel and pineapple ;) Ubuntu works fine by now, but why is it that on three of my computers i notice natural scrolling is still not working as it should and you guys keep reporting it 'works fine'! And why is the status is migrated to incomplete.. again. natural scrolling setting in ~.Xmodmap mouse pointer setting changed to 5 before 4 is not picked up the right way by nautilus. Either manually set or bij some tweak tool. I had a similar problem. The fact that evince crashes is a bug. But it was triggered, in my case, by a leftover old installation of evince in /usr/local. When Apple releases Mac OSX Lion, one of the changes is the switching of the trackpad/mouse scrolling direction. Instead of scrolling the mouse wheel down to move down the page, you have to scroll up to move down. Apple imported this feature from iOS and call[s] this feature “natural scrolling”. [Bug 975136] [NEW] Blocked contacts forgotten in between invocations of the program
Public bug reported: Empathy has a problem with not blocking blocked contacts. So I verified that the spam users were on my blocked contact list. Since blocking is not working I shut down Empathy and restarted it thinking this might be necessary to put the current blocked contacts into effect. It didn't help. I checked the blocked contact list again and found all but two of the blocked contacts had been removed from the list. FYI: This is apparently not why the blocking is not working. Even users still on my blocked contact list are able to send me new messages. FWIW, https://www.meebo.com/messenger has no problem blocking these same yahoo IM spam users. I'm not suggesting meebo is full featured substitute for Empathy. I'm just pointing out that blocking contacts is doable. This probably isn't a kernel issue. Backlight drivers generally only change the brightness when told to do so by userspace, although sometimes system firmware plays a role as well.
