[Bug 977048] [NEW] Totem fails to play mp4 files originating from youtube
Public bug reported: In precise beta 2, Totem fails to plays mp4 files downloaded from youtube via Minitube or the Firefox DownloaHhelper plugin. Totem does not crash, but displays a black screen. As a result, totem-video-thumbnailer fails to create a proper snapshot to be used as a thumbnail for those videos in Nautilus (it aborts with a totem-video-thumbnailer couldn't process file: 'video.mp4' Reason: Took too much time to process. error message) This is a regression as everything was fine in 11.10 using the same videos. Moreover, other media players such as VLC or SMPlayer have no trouble playing the video. Steps to reproduce - Download a video from youtube using minitube or the DownloadHelper Firefox plugin - check that Nautilus does not display a snapshot of the video as a thumbnail - check that Totem fails to properly plays the video, although it does not crash - check that it is not the case in 11.10 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: libgstreamer0.10-0 0.10.36-1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-22.35-generic-pae 3.2.14 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-22-generic-pae i686 ApportVersion: 2.0-0ubuntu4 Architecture: i386 Date: Mon Apr 9 10:11:47 2012 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal - Release i386 (20110427.1) SourcePackage: gstreamer0.10 UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to precise on 2012-03-29 (10 days ago) ** Affects: gstreamer0.10 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 precise -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gstreamer0.10 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/977048 Title: Totem fails to play mp4 files originating from youtube To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gstreamer0.10/+bug/977048/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 974573] Re: gnome-control-center layout problems w/o overlay-scrollbars
This is exactly the reason why I really start to dislike ubuntu ... it seems like we want you to use overlay-scrollbars, and the Ambiance theme, otherwise you may get a broken desktop. Note that this specific issue is a GNOME one, see i.e https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=670268, GNOME forced a specific size so it works only with their theme and the default locale, font. What we do is just to adjust that to the default Ubuntu theme, we don't really create any issue there It's not their decision to stick with Totem 3.0, Evolution 3.2 it's because it's a lts cycle and those were problematic updates, they will get updated next cycle So now I really am about to move to debian testing / Linux Mint Debian Edition, because they deliver a GNOME experience that is closer to as it was meant to be by the GNOME developers, not crippled by unity- specific patches. Good luck, those tweak their theme as well btw, and tend to have at least as many is not up to date issues than Ubuntu, note that Ubuntu has less and less patches to GNOME since the default desktop is Unity and not a patched GNOME Should I write to the ubuntu-desktop mailing list about this, maybe as a starting point for an open discussion about this issue? No real point, what is lacking to maintain a first class citizen GNOME is contributors wanting to maintain GNOME, and extra emails which will to the lack of resources reason will not bring you any closer from that ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #670268 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=670268 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/974573 Title: gnome-control-center layout problems w/o overlay-scrollbars To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/974573/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 974915] Re: Nautilus Context menu missing icons
Well - ok - however one man's design decision can be another man's bug. I agree with the sentitment that there can be too many icons, however to remove all of them, especially with respect to the ability to use Nautilus-Actions to add apps to the Context menu, this is a poor decision. I am an average user and a software developer across all the main OS's and this is poor decision - Firefox, Chrome and Thunderbird seem to be ok with icons on their context menus , icons help break up the menus, making it eaiser for the users to scan for the option they are looking for. A complete 'wall' of text strikes the eye very poorly and does the exact opposite of what the 'design' intended. These types of decision should be applied via dconf settings - not via a blank removal. Re: [Bug 975148] Re: Cannot click on Organize desktop by name
Thank you for your response, It happens all the time, but yesterday when I turned it on the problem wasn't there. However I didn't do any updates, so I think the bug is hidden in somewhere. Specifically, when I right click on desktop and put the cursor between those buttons the menu showed begins to tremble. I think (I don't know the problem) that the button Organize desktop by name reduces its size and then the cursor goes to the next button which reduces its size too and then the cursor returns to the first button, and so on. The trembling is caused by the changes in the size of the menu. Did you understand me? I can try to reproduce it and make some print screens if you want. Thank you. Regards. Abraço. Well I use Firefox 11 on Ubuntu 11.10 and Chrome on ubuntu 11.10 and there are icons. It's true that on 12.04 they are missing. [Bug 977233] [NEW] gnome classic panel icons not removable
Public bug reported: I installed the classic gnome-session-fallback and it looks pretty much like the old 10.04 Desktop but there are two major problems. The Application and Places menu fonts are to dark (i did not use any theming that i know of) and I'm unable to remove Application starters that i dragged from the menus to the Panel. reproduce: 1) start Gnome classic (_with_ effects) 2) dragdrop some application from the menu to the panel 3) try to rightclick the starter and remove it again expected result: menu entry that enables you to remove the starter icon again actual result: there is no option to remove the starter icon. not via contextmenu and not via dragdrop to the trash or something. modifier keys also do not enable you to remove the icon from the panel ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: gnome-session-fallback 3.2.1-0ubuntu6 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-22.35-generic 3.2.14 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-22-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 2.0-0ubuntu4 Architecture: amd64 Date: Mon Apr 9 15:37:43 2012 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot - Release amd64 (20111012) PackageArchitecture: all ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=de:en TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gnome-session UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to precise on 2012-03-14 (25 days ago) ** Affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug precise third-party-packages -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/977233 Title: gnome classic panel icons not removable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/977233/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 977248] [NEW] eject DVD has weird messages
Public bug reported: This bug is quite similar wo what is described in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/34274 but since this bug was back in 2006 i decided to file a new one for 12.04 Beta. Here is what happened: I had a Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2 64bit CD mountet with an Icon on my Desktop and used it for a Virtualbox install. After the Installation was finished and it has been ejected as virtual drive in Virtualbox I rightclicked on the Desktop Icon and selected eject. after a few seconds a dialog popped up that is usually shown when I eject a USB Drive telling me that data needs to be written on the drive to prevent data loss. reproduce: 1) use the CD (inside a virtualmachine and unmount it inside the VM) 2) eject it using the context menu from the desktop icon. [Bug 950235] Re: icons don't show up in system settings
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 934335 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/934335 Robert, this happens with the Adwaita theme, with the High Contrast theme, and with many other themes that are provided in the repositories. This is a duplicate of a bug report I wrote a while ago, but I had sent it in a strange (and, evidently, unresponsive) direction and it had a really useless title. Would have been very hard to find :) I edited that bug report so it'll be easier to find in the future, and I'm marking this one a duplicate. ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 934335 GNOME Control Center category icons only work for Ambiance and Radiance. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/950235 Title: icons don't show up in system settings To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/950235/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 977326] [NEW] Evince crashes on opening pdf files
Public bug reported: Double-clicking or right-clicking and open with on a pdf file properly launches evince, but then crashes almost half of the times.
