[Bug 982861] [NEW] Cannot adjust screen brightness
Public bug reported: On an Esprimo Mobile U9200 running up-to-date Precise, I am no longer able to adjust screen brightness at all. The slider in the brightness and lock dialog does not respond, and after 10–20 seconds, it disappears entirely (see the screenshots I've attached). The function keys for the same purpose do not work, either. Adding brightness with Fn+F9 only lights up the screen for a short moment. Bug 979495 seems related. Until a couple of days ago, the keys not working were the only problem — I was able to adjust the brightness in the dialog, even though I needed to re-do that after every boot. [Bug 982179] [NEW] /proc/acpi/button/lid/*/state always says closed
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hi I found my system ubuntu won't never go to sleep when I close the lid. I checked the state file is always filled with closed even when I mimic a lid close with a small magnet instead of the true lid: the backlight goes off, but the computer won't go to sleep. It is easy to reproduce and check: in a terminal I send cat /proc/acpi/button/lid/*/state closed when lid is opened and no magnet present Then I prepare again the command in the terminal (I don't hit enter at this moment) I place the magnet to mimic lid close, wait some minutes to give time for pc to sleep (it won't, I know it because the sleep led won't blink light) then I hit Enter then I remove the magnet and (no password prompt) see the command returned ... closed :( Tryied with 3.0.0.26, 3.2rc4 and 3.3.0.999, all the same. Ok, I guess if I use x-terminal-emulator, it should open the right terminal, right? I don't see an easy way to make the Launch Terminal string translatable. Ok, I've tested this with making the change in a mutter gconf defaults and the shortcut works for all of the GNOME Unity desktops. Since mutter isn't translated by LP, the string Launch Terminal visible in the Custom Keyboard Shortcuts part of System Settings won't be translated at all for GNOME Shell users. Of course, by having the shortcut in metacity as originally proposed, it wouldn't be translated either by release date and this way at least less people are affected by the untranslated string. ** Package changed: metacity (Ubuntu) = mutter (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/952223 Title: Ctrl+Alt+T doesn't open the terminal in GNOME Shell To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/952223/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 933761] Re: Shortcut descriptions truncated
After recent unity updates there is a worse case example of g-c-c UI and it's components. Afaik and in fact HUD appears with Alt-key. Beside that the shortcut is wrong in g-c-c (983116): - with german locale, the description in g-c-c [Component: Keyboard] says something about what HUD should do by Alt+L (screenshot-de) - a user can only guess what alt+l is supposed to do, in particular may ask what is HUD anyway - open g-c-c in a terminal with prefix LANG=C and it will display a readable description about the shortcut (screenshot-en) ** Attachment added: HUD-to-do-what?-de.png https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/933761/+attachment/3077605/+files/HUD-to-do-what%3F-de.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/933761 Title: Shortcut descriptions truncated To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-control-center/+bug/933761/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 951123] Re: nautilus not natural scrolling
So natural scrolling is part of something larger called smooth scrolling in Gnome and it's automatically enabled if it picks up on a tablet or some other ultra-portable medium. But where does leave us mouse/pad users --be that of desktops or laptops-- that prefer natural scrolling? Apparently, the answer is that we're on our own because xmodmap (or at least natural scrolling initiated via xmodmap) is an unsupported hack (unsupported configuration ... gnome-tweak to enable weird options). The more I thought about this problem, the more I came closer to realizing a few things. 1. Natural scrolling via xmodmap (and gtk+ or qt) is NOT a hack, and less an unsupported one for that matter. How do I know this? Because I remembered that xmodmap is an Xorg utility. We still use Xorg, after all. 2. My .Xmodmap is indeed being picked up; I know this because I've reassigned some keys and they're implemented properly. So, gtk+/gnome is selectively not picking up on the reverse scrolling directive. Therefore, what's happening here is that gtk+/Gnome is not abiding by X protocols. In other words, gtk/Gnome is at fault here and in that sense it IS most certainly a bug. 3. I can only assume that in their desire to cater to the ultra-portable market Gnome devs have forgotten about xmodmap, in as far as scrolling direction (they do have event structures and something called GdkScrollDirection ), and hard coded directionality with their smooth scrolling. And this is probably the source of the bug. Solution Allow user intervention. This is not unheard of as “Reverse Scrolling Direction” under System Settings is already implemented by KDE (see http://imagecdn.maketecheasier.com/2011/09/naturalscrolling-kde.png). Aside The Ubuntu app called naturalscrolling does not work and seems to have messed with other key reassignments, by the way, when I tried it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/951123 Title: nautilus not natural scrolling To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/951123/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Yup. This is with all plugins and crossfading backend disabled, too. It *looks like* its caching the song in memory, and never releasing it - memory usage goes up every time there is a song change, be it natural or prompted (ff/rewind buttons). This is completely unusuable; you can *easily* accumulate hundreds, if not thousands, of RAM by simply pushing FF a bunch of times. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/976534 Title: Rhythmbox cummulates memory in precise - probably memory leak To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/976534/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
