Re: [Bug 955876] Re: Possible have wrong values in Metacity gconf/gsettings keys
Hy, I think this problem is affecting a shared component with using all desktop environments, and possible this problem not depending with Metacity window manager. For example now in Ubuntu Accessibility List an user wrote following: Hi all, I did a fresh install of Ubuntu Precise and got Orca 3.4.1 running in Unity 2D. When Alt_Tab for switching windows, Control_Alt_right-arrow to switch to the next workspace and Control_Super_D for minimizing all windows won't work deleting the .gconf/apps/metacity folder solves the problem after logging out and logging in. Fortunately Control_Alt_T to open a terminal, Alt_F1 to the launcher still doing fine when this problem occurs. The next time I starts up the machine I have the same problem with the Alt_Tab, etc. Do I miss something else to do for this problem to solve? Milton Possible some time gsettings-data-convert service generating wrong settings the conversion? More users experienced similar issues under Unity 2d, GNOME Shell, and GNOME3 fallback session, and usual the .gconf/apps/metacity folder delete resolve temporary this problem. If this bad settings conversion happening, why have type mismatch differences with following keys? /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/move_to_workspace_left, /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/move_to_workspace_right, /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/move_to_workspace_up, /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/move_to_workspace_down, /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/switch_windows, /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/switch_group, /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/switch_panels, /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/cycle_windows, /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/cycle_group, /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/cycle_panels, /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/show_desktop, /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/switch_to_workspace_left, /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/switch_to_workspace_right, /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/switch_to_workspace_up, /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/switch_to_workspace_down, /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/panel_run_dialog, /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/panel_main_menu, /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/activate_window_menu, /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/toggle_fullscreen, /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/toggle_maximized, /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/maximize, /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/unmaximize, /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/toggle_shaded, /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/close, /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/minimize, /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/begin_move, /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/begin_resize, /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/toggle_on_all_workspaces, /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/raise_or_lower, /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/raise, /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/lower, /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/maximize_vertically, /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/maximize_horizontally. [Bug 1002788] Re: Unable to access file or folder when clicking
I've figured out what triggers the behaviour, it happens whenever we use the touchscreen. Best short term solution is to disable the touchscreen. To do this on Ubuntu 12.04 do the following: 1. To determine the device name look at instructions here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=160 2. Create a file in your home directory called .xsessionrc 3. Add the following line to the file: xinput set-prop 'Quanta OpticalTouchScreen' 'Device Enabled' 0 Be aware that 'Quanta OpticalTouchScreen' is specific to my machine. You will need to enter your device name, acquired by 4. save, close and restart -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1002788 Title: Unable to access file or folder when clicking To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1002788/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 382829] [NEW] Suggested output when printing a file to PDF is technical and generic ~/output.pdf
You have been subscribed to a public bug: In Jaunty, GNOME print dialogs have a Print to File printer available in the Print dialog. When you select this printer, the output file's suggested name is output.pdf and the suggested location is the user's home directory. output is jargon, has the potential to collide with another file of the same name in the destination directory, and is difficult to remember as it has no relation to the name of the file being printed. Incorporating the source file's name in the output filename seems like a great improvement. Saving to the user's home directory is reasonable, but the Desktop is a more accessible location. We may also want to consider saving the PDF to the same directory as the source file. Suggestion: * Always default to PDF format. * Reuse the source filename if known, else use Untitled or the naming convention for unnamed files. * Default to saving on the Desktop rather than inside the user's home folder. ** Affects: gtk Importance: Medium Status: Fix Released ** Affects: gtk2 Importance: Medium Status: Invalid ** Affects: gtk3 Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: hundredpapercuts Importance: Low Assignee: Timothy Arceri (t-fridey) Status: Fix Committed ** Affects: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Low Status: Fix Committed ** Tags: css-sponsored-p -- Suggested output when printing a file to PDF is technical and generic ~/output.pdf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/382829 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+3.0 in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME
oh yes! checked the code and then again lost my memory :). No problem. Happens :) In short: I'm pretty sure now, that lightdm is creating these files. In long: I modified my ps-log.sh a bit, ran it several times and saw, that lightdm sometimes appeared in the log right before the file was created and sometimes right after it. This implies, that lightdm creates the file very fast after starting. Also tried starting lightdm. Didn't work (maybe would have, if I had tried with --test-mode from a tty): $ lightdm Only root can run Light Display Manager. To run as a regular user for testing run with the --test-mode flag. $ lightdm --test-mode Running inside an X server requires Xephyr to be installed but it cannot be found. Please install it or update your PATH environment variable. Logged whole command line of lightdm as started on shutdown: lightdm --session-child 12 19 --session-child is not documented in the man page. Tried this command in a running session, but no .goutputstream-* file was created (neither in current working directory, nor in ~): $ lightdm --session-child 12 19 Error reading from daemon: Bad file descriptor Error reading from daemon: Bad file descriptor Error reading from daemon: Bad file descriptor Error reading from daemon: Bad file descriptor Error reading from daemon: Bad file descriptor Error reading from daemon: Bad file descriptor Error reading from daemon: Bad file descriptor Error reading from daemon: Bad file descriptor Error reading from daemon: Bad file descriptor Error reading from daemon: Bad file descriptor Failed to start PAM: System error Then I tried logging with inotifywait and lsof (again, but modified script). I think I found out how to reproduce this bug. This particular dconf key cannot be set via the preferences gui in eog (at least not in the current version, and perhaps not ever -- see quote below). If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: eog (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: eog (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to eog in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1001781 Title: eog crashes on launches To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eog/+bug/1001781/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 996791] [NEW] Xubuntu 12.04 extremely slow login
You have been subscribed to a public bug: The core issue is that /usr/lib/accountsservice/accounts-daemon doesn't accept dbus messages on boot. The symptom to this problem is that, after successfulling entering your login information, the system takes about 85 seconds to boot. The real issue occuring is that /usr/lib/accountsservice/accounts-daemon isn't being started correctly by ligthdm. The accounts-daemon wont accept dbus requests, and so the dbus timeout is hit during boot. Before I start, here is a run down on my machine/setup: Intel I7. Xubuntu 12.04. Encrypted home drive. Running compiz. Enabling the log files on lightdm, the follow warnings are displayed (Notice the times): [+11.58s] DEBUG: Greeter quit [+36.60s] WARNING: Could not call SetXSession: Timeout was reached [+61.63s] WARNING: Could not call FindUserByName: Timeout was reached [+61.63s] DEBUG: Dropping privileges to uid 1000 [+61.63s] DEBUG: Restoring privileges [+86.65s] WARNING: Could not call FindUserByName: Timeout was reached If the /usr/lib/accountsservices/accounts-daemon is restarted, after the lightdm login screen is displayed, but before a login, then xfce will start immediately. Otherwise boot times take about 87 seconds. Also, it was found that the program d-feet, is unable to retrive valid methods from /usr/lib/accountsservices/accounts-daemon before it is restarted. After the deamon is restarted, all dbus methods are visuable and communicate correctly. [Bug 1003590] [NEW] evolution will not connect to my ISP o2.co.uk or its mail servers
Public bug reported: Under Ubuntu 11.10, serially upgraded from the original 9.04, I could use Evolution to access my email accounts at o2.co.uk and virgin.net without any problems. I have carried out a fresh install of 12.04 and Evolution will not connect to mail.o2.co.uk or relay.o2broadband.co.uk instead returning an error; ERR[AUTH] invalid user or password. This is despite the settings being exactly the same as worked successfully under 11.10 . The same is happening if I use Thunderbird as well. o2 say they do not support Linux or MAC and will put no time into solving any issue, but they do say they have not recently changed anything in their systems. I can access webmail pages with no problem, but it is more convenient to use a mail client, and at the moment nothing works.
