[Bug 1005403] [NEW] Brasero is a mess, does not burn properly, fails and can't eject??

2012-05-28 Thread wind buntu
Public bug reported:

Brasero is a total mess, it doesn't work. After it makes me wait forever to
burn a disk it says its !00% done, it then states that an error occured while
burning and some file smay be corrupted...which of course they are. It has cost
me at leat 20-30 dvd's so far.
On top of that it can't even eject a dvd? The eject issue happens EVERYTIME I
burn something and the error message happens about 80-90% of the time. I see
now many other have the same problem.

I would open a new bug and a comment referencing this one. The root

confusion.

[Bug 956378] Re: Flash Plugin has no sound after unplugging HDMI cable

2012-05-28 Thread Aurélien Leblond
Unfortunately haven't found a fix no.

My laptop has 3 outputs when the HDMI is plugged in (HDMI, Speakers,
Headphones), I tried to switch between speakers and headphones when the
HDMI cable wouldn't be plugged, but that didn't fix anything.

My only solution so far is to plug the HDMI cable, set the proper
output, unplug the HDMI.

Sorry...

[Bug 955955] Re: Keyboard shortcuts get reset at every login

2012-05-28 Thread everflux
I have the same problem with the gnome fallback session.
It is *really* annoying that alt-f7 is reset to initiate move window.
When trying to change it via ccsm it is directly reset in the session. When
changed by gconf-editor,
/apps/compiz-1/plugins/move/screen0/options/initiate_key it works at least for
the current session and is reset after re-login. (But the value in the key
/apps/compiz-1/plugins/move/screen0/options/initiate_key still keeps beeing
empty, I have to open gconf-editor and touch the value again to gain an effect)

[Bug 1005510] [NEW] yelp steals focus, cannot be killed, hogs system

2012-05-28 Thread Guy Verrijdt
Public bug reported:

When opened from certain applications (eg grsync and terminal) but not others
(eg nautilus and gedit), the yelp window stays empty, steals focus (forces
itself on forground) and cannot be force killed.
The system becomes unusable, although everything seems to continue working.
CPU load increases dramatically, Xorg is the main culprit
Only solution to get control back over the system is a Alt-SysRq-REISUB reboot.
Nothing relevant in .xsession-errors; i have no idea where to look or what to
look for in other logs
Should i file a bug? Yelp? Xorg?
Anyone else with this problem?
Please help...
Here's a video showing what the problem is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgH4BmdF4iEfeature=youtu.be

I'll be happy to provide log entries, upon request.
I can't gdb backtrace since yelp started from terminal without arguments works
flawlessly.

[Bug 1001578] Re: Nautilus on SSD is slower than on external HDD

2012-05-28 Thread Tom
I marked this my self as invalid, as Nautilus seems now fast again :)
This is what I did:

1 - rename ~/.gnome2 to .gnome2.bak
2 - rename ~/.gconf/apps/nautilus to nautilus.bak

Restart Nautlius fast ! ))

Not sure which one of the renames (actually deletion of of the folder)
solved it, but it worked. Maybe, when upgrading from former HDD install
we need to delete these? Just and idea...

[Bug 990326] Re: Screen brightness setting has no affect on HP ProBook 6560b

2012-05-28 Thread Malte S. Stretz
This isn't a bug in gnome-power-manager since it affects KDE as well.
Actually, it looks like the kernel (?) ignores whatever is written to
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness; I can set it to zero and
still no change:

$ ls /sys/class/backlight/
acpi_video0
$ cat /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/max_brightness
20
$ cat /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
20
$ echo 0 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
0
$ cat /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
0

[Bug 878993] Re: x.org lockup after dragging archived file to desktop

2012-05-28 Thread Stefan Goldmann
I'd like to confirm the weird behavior reported by kjoe in posts #23 and
#25.

In fact, kjoe, this weird every second time behavior seems to happen
on a per target basis. Try dnd-extracting to target1 (e.g., desktop),
target 2 (some folder), target 1, target 2, and so on, without striving
the other target with the mouse in between the individual trials (place
your windows accordingly).

When I did that, using file-roller, I got Crash (on target 1), Crash (
on target 2), Success (t1), Success (t2), Crash (t1), Crash (t2) and so
forth.

Can this be confirmed?

Side note: The bug has been reported at pcmanfm bugtracker already
(http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailaid=3496591group_id=156956atid=801864).
They indicate that the actual bug is originated within pcmanfm, whereas
the X-blocking is due to the way file-roller is handling the error
situation. Since there is no X-block when using xarchiver instead of
file-roller, this sounds logical to me.

[Bug 969359] Re: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu

2012-05-28 Thread heckheck
I had not had any problems of this nature until I tried updating some
packages this morning. Then this bug hit me. I was seeing 100% CPU
utilization and strace showed a continued access to a futex. Sorry I
don't have a package update list since I had to revert the system
immediately (it is a production system). The system had previously been
updated on May 24th. This update was a new kernel, and some X updates.
Sorry I don't have more concrete information to report.

I do have VirtualBox installed on this machine, but it was inactive when the
bug occurred.
I also am using VNC to connect to this computer remotely, and the problem
seemed to occur shortly after connecting. Not sure if that is related or not.

[Bug 1005549] [NEW] Install ext-db headers for external native plugins

2012-05-28 Thread Sean McNamara
Public bug reported:

This bug is preventing me from building my third-party plugin for
Rhythmbox (open source), rbpitch : http://launchpad.net/rbpitch

Please cherry pick the commit linked below (and view the upstream bug

[Bug 1005510] Re: yelp steals focus, cannot be killed, hogs system

2012-05-28 Thread Guy Verrijdt
Thx for your quick answer and your efforts to help with this.

interestingly, this is what happens when i run yelp ghelp:gnome-
terminal:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afERf2R3nE4

So no luck...

The video doesn't show, but the same behaviour is there using ambiance
Gtk and window theme

I don't think it has anything to do with the power of my pc... other
than this glitch it's running relatively smoothly

What else can i do to solve this?

[Bug 1005510] Re: yelp steals focus, cannot be killed, hogs system

2012-05-28 Thread Shaun McCance
Almost certainly the old forkbomb bug:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=464111

There are two things different between nautilus gedit versus grsync
gnome-terminal:

1) The former use the help: scheme, the latter ghelp:
2) The former use Mallard, the latter DocBook

Something is causing Yelp not to recognize these documents, which makes
Yelp tell the system to open them, which in turn tells Yelp to open
them, ad infinitum.

[Bug 1005510] Re: yelp steals focus, cannot be killed, hogs system

2012-05-28 Thread Guy Verrijdt
Thank you for your information.

Maybe this gets me somewhere.
Tried installing 'docbook (which wasn't installed on my system)', no avail
Mallard seems not to be a package that can be (re)installed
Already tried reinstalling yelp earlier, also no avail

It confuses me that the command 'yelp ghelp:gnome-terminal' from cli
doesn't trigger the bug, so the problem is in the 'link' between the app
and yelp(?) Xorg CPU shoots up, maybe it's a Xorg thing? Compiz?

Am I the only one having this?

Thanks for further help...

2012-05-28 Thread kroq-gar78
There is this option in 12.04 - the latest stable release (and therefore

this bug as invalid or not. 10.04 is already released, so it'll be
(very) hard to get in a new feature (even though this is a small one,
yes).

[Bug 955955] Re: Keyboard shortcuts get reset at every login

You should try to create a new user account and see if things work fine
there for you. Feels to me like some user specific issue that would go
away in a new user.

If it's slow using nautilus and not from the command-line, then this may
be nautilus's handling of displaying the files. Don't forget it needs to

[Bug 1005531] Re: Editing irc port is hard

2012-05-28 Thread Brian Curtis
Thanks for your bug report and helping to makle Ubuntu better.

You have the option in empathy to edit which port is used first.

In the account wizard, click the IRC connection you want to change
Click to Edit Connection Parameters
Click Freenode (Thats the Ubuntu server)
Click edit when freenode is selected in the server list
Expand the window down, and select the freenode listing with 8001 as the port,
then using the up arrow click it until it does grey and you've made 8001 the
default server port that empathy will use.

Although, That's too many steps and quite confusing for the average
user. Marking this as a wishlist bug and hopefully the upstream devs
will follow quit (if you can't).

[Bug 969359] Re: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu

2012-05-28 Thread SlugiusRex
This may have been happening as early as Maverick (Bug #658342). At
that time it was marked as a duplicate Multiple Keyboard Layouts
unusable: continuously changes layout + 100% CPU usage (Bug #625793).
I have head keyboard layouts mentioned here ~ so maybe. As far as I
know I am not using multiple layouts.

One thing I do observe ( probably totally irrelevant). I often hear my CPU fan
pitch change when I leave my Ubuntu Desktop running long enough for the screen
to go dark (especially I am running a Flash video in Youtube or something). I
only mention this because I know that the idle-activation-enabled setting is
related to the gnome-settings-daemon (at least to gsettings / dconf-editor)

I cant find what's causing it because as so as I restore the screen to
normal - CPU utilization goes back to normal.

So if I wanted to do an experiment to see if it was gnome-settings-
daemon was going berzerk while I was away I would need a console based
way to capture CPU utilization for just that particular PID. I was
thinking : top -b -p PID but that is a mess. Does anybody have a
better idea. Or am I totally wasting my time here ??

[Bug 1005245] [NEW] Keyboard indicator does not respond to layout change

2012-05-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have two layouts on this computer: Estonian and Russian. There is no English.
Here is how I reproduce this reliably:
1. Log in to fresh Unity session
2. Open LibreOffice Writer
3. Type random text in Estonian, which is the default layout
4. Press alt+shift. Further text will be Russian, but the indicator next to the
clock still shows Estonian.
5. Alt+shift back to Estonian, the to Russian again. The indicator shows
Russian as it should. From now on, it will keep functioning properly.

This happens on every startup and occasionally in the middle of a
session. Although not functionally threatening, this bug can create
confusion for the unexpecting user.

2012-05-28 Thread Brian Curtis
Thanks for your bug report and helping to make Ubuntu better. Since this

-Please provide steps you take to reproduce this issue on your machine
-Please use help-Debug and on the top left menu select Haze (AIM) and then
click save and add that to this report as an attachment. NOTE: You should try

[Bug 1002837] Re: Empath is unable to connect to google talk in hosted domain

2012-05-28 Thread Brian Curtis
Thanks for your bug report and helping to make Ubuntu better. Since this
is a connection issue with the gabble protocol (for GTalk) then this bug
will be changed to telepathy-gabble.

-First please attempt to connect to this hosted domain using jabber instead of
gtalk specifically and see if this allows you to connect. If that does not work
then:
-Please provide steps you take to reproduce this issue on your machine
-Please use help-Debug and on the top left menu select gabble and then click
save and add that to this report as an attachment. NOTE: You should try to

[Bug 872114] Re: Yelp causes 100% CPU usage

2012-05-28 Thread rpr nospam
I can reproduce this bug on Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit with yelp
3.4.1-0ubuntu1.The test machine has a quad-core 3.2 GHz AMD Phenom II
and when the bug occurs one of the cores constantly runs at 100% until
closing yelp (tested for 10+ minutes).

It seems that high CPU usage is triggered by using the search bar in
yelp. If a search query produces no results, load is normal. But if a
query produces some results, high CPU load occurs.

I'd say it this bug is quite similar to bug 268845 which was reported in
2008.

[Bug 969359] Re: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu

2012-05-28 Thread SlugiusRex
That whole bit about the CPU fan might be totally irrelevant after all.
As it turns out - that is a different bug: [fglrx] compiz uses 100%
CPU when screen turns off (spinning in glXWaitVideoSyncSGI or
glXSwapBuffers) Bug #969860 that the team is familiar with.

That bug has to do with compiz and this is settings daemon - however
they may be the same if cmpiz uses settings daemon under the covers.

The solve for that bug
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11936668) is related to the
AMD Catalyst Control Center - in my case I'm using the ATI Radeon5700
graphics driver. Is anybody experiencing this bug not using AMD/ATI.
