[Bug 820506] Re: can't flip deck over again in solitaire

2012-06-20 Thread Brett Coulstock
I'm pretty sure this isn't a bug. In some configurations, klondike
solitaire has only a limited number of redeals.

[Bug 537970] Re: Evince does not print images in some pdf files.

2012-06-20 Thread Matthias Jordan
Till, I have to apologize for a) using a super-stupid naming scheme for
the two files that even I find confusing and b) for not getting that
you're talking about the other file. Well.

I attached Ausgabe.pdf as generated by my Evince 3.4.0. This has been
generated on an up-to-date Ubuntu 12.04.

Versions here are:
cups-filters 1.0.18-0ubuntu0.1

evince 3.4.0-0ubuntu1

[Bug 1015417] [NEW] Totem doesnt release memory when going to next file

2012-06-20 Thread Morlok8k
Public bug reported:

queue up some video files (I first noticed this on some large (800MB) .mkv
files: 1080p, H264, 24fps, AAC audio)
bring up the system monitor, and watch the memory usage for totem go up and up
as the video plays.
at the end of the first video, memory usage is around 600-900MB. when the
second video starts playing, it will not drop down, but continue going up and
up.

My computer gets glitchy when it starts getting into the 900MB-1GB range
of memory usage, but thats a symptom of just not enough RAM, and the
fact that totem just doesnt release its memory usage (or at least not
fast enough, if it does at all)

My only option on these large video files is to: watch one, close totem,
and then watch another, and repeat.

[Bug 1013171] Re: Many package hooks not ported to python3

2012-06-20 Thread Martin Pitt
@Edward:

For future ref, I have email addresses on my LP page, so this makes me
wonder if they're properly visible.

They are not. https://launchpad.net/~edward.donovan says No public
address provided., I figure you need to agree to showing them in
public. It's certainly a sensible default to not show them, as an email
address on a public web page attracts a lot of spam.

As for the print statement, print() works just as well in Python 2 as
long as you don't use commas in there; if you do, it prints a tuple
instead. So these are fine:

  print('hello')
  print('hello %s' % world)

but this needs the __future__ statement or need to be rewritten to have
one single argument:

  print('hello', 'world')

[Bug 537970] Re: Evince does not print images in some pdf files.

2012-06-20 Thread Matthias Jordan
Now I also lifted our laser printer to my office and printed
Abschlussarbeit directly through the parallel port. You know what? The
logo prints from within Evince.

This indicates that the GNOME print dialog does stuff entirely different
from what lpr and gtklp do with remote CUPS servers. In all former cases
the same (as in ==, not as in .equals()) remote printer hardware was
used. (This was also the very hardware that prints the logo when
attached to the parallel port.)

So that means that Evince in Precise prints just fine to a parallel port
printer but not to a remote CUPS printer while gtklp and lpr print fine
using the same remote CUPS printer that Evince fails to print to.

That lead me to a new hypothesis: the remote CUPS server or one of its
subsystems is buggy; printing from gtklp and lpr works because the
hardware printer, attached to the CUPS server using Ethernet, is
accessed directly from gtklp and lpr while Evince talks to the CUPS
server. An experiment (printing a job using Evince and gtklp) refuted
this: both jobs appeared in the CUPS job queue.

What's also interesting is that the (failing) remote print job from
Evince is listed as 1053k in the Size column in the CUPS jobs list for
that printer while the gtklp job clocks in at 989k.

And the absolute super joke is that after reattaching the darn laser
printer and killing two stale print processes (hung since March) the bug
disappeared and the logo prints correctly out of Evince. This is even
more hilarious if you consider that this wasn't the first time we power-
cycled the printer and the problems began long before March this year.
I'm positive that the PNG printing problem will reappear. Until then I'm
not able to repro this any further.

[Bug 1014264] Re: totem fails to recognize mkv-header crop values

2012-06-20 Thread twipley
Just to be clear, crop values should be unobtrusively detected and
applied, but there would be no need whatsoever, as far as I am seeing
it, for the implementation of crop-values-modification capabilities from
the totem settings.

(The goal merely being to respect the own predefined idiosyncrasies of
the projected media file.)

[Bug 987220] Re: System does not power off reliably when Shut Down chosen from GUI

2012-06-20 Thread setcho
Shutdown hangs on the Ubuntu 12.04 shutdown screen and does not turn
off. A couple of things to note:

1. This problem does not happen all the time. Approximately, for every 4
shutdowns 1 will work and 3 will hang and not complete. The Ubuntu
shutdown screen does not display correctly on the 3 failures. Ubuntu
appears larger than it should and there are no progress dots below it.
On the one shutdown that completes Ubuntu appears at the right size on
the shutdown screen and the progress dots are working.

2. This error coincided with the death of my Graphics card, I have no
idea if they were related it was 4 years old so it could have been just
normal wear and tear. Anyway whilst I waited for my new card I installed
Xubuntu 12.04 on an old Dimension 3000 with integrated graphics, all
shutdowns completed correctly. Recieved new graphics yesterday and
reinstalled Ubuntu 12.04 on my main machine and shutdown problem
persists.

Specs: Dell XPS 420 using fglrx originally on a ATI Radeon HD3870 now on
ATI Radeon HD5450.

[Bug 1015370] Re: when opening a file using gedit, an unwanted blank document tab also opens

2012-06-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at

tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 537970] Re: Evince does not print images in some pdf files.

2012-06-20 Thread Matthias Jordan
Fun fact: after #41, a colleague printed the file Abschlussarbeit.pdf
with Evince 3.2.1 to the same CUPS and hardware printer as above and the
logo did not print. The file does, though, print with gtklp and the CUPS
lpr program. I'll have to wait for another colleague to return from a
business trip so we can try that on another Precise machine.

[Bug 1015473] [NEW] Support adjusting the amount of virtual desktops

2012-06-20 Thread Kai Mast
Public bug reported:

Hey Guys,

I don't use more than virtual desktop and it has been bugging me for
ages that I have to use ccsm to set the size to 1.

In general I think the best way would be to add this option to the
appearance-tab in gnome-control-center. Shouldn't be that hard to
implement and useful to a lot of people.

[Bug 1015342] Re: Tools/manage tools/shortcuts: More help while defining shortcuts

2012-06-20 Thread Stefan Wagner
Okay - slowly understanding the system and intention . Bug 678460 at
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=678460 .

Offtopic:

This bugreporting system needs reworking too, if bugreporting should be
made simple and people should be encouraged to do it again.

As it stands now, I can't encourage newcomers to report bugs. From here
they are guided to another side, where you have to register, where you
are encouraged to read multiple documents before proceeding. Then again,
you have to select what product (gedit), ok - you read the bugdatabase
whether the bug has been reported (insert keywords) - it hasn't and now
again you have to insert which product (gedit) and which keywords.

As a user, I don't know who is responsible, and don't want to repeat
myself over and over again. There has to be a button in the help menu,
whihc guides me to the right place. The product (gedit) should be
already known then. Entering the keywords for search, should
automatically select them for my new bugreport, if I create one from
there.

I'm glad that creating an additional account was simplified (OpenID).

Public bug reported:

I see this crash of nautilus 2.32 now and then. I did not find other
traces of the crash than one line in dmesg (see bug summary).

It may have to do with browsing ftp-URLs with nautilus. But at the time
of this crash no ftp-site was mounted anymore for hours. It just never
occurred, if I did not mount ftp-sites.

Please give me hints how to generate more debug infos. Then I will try
to reproduce this bug.

[Bug 537970] Re: Evince does not print images in some pdf files.

2012-06-20 Thread Till Kamppeter
I also cannot reproduce the bug with your new attachment.

Note that if your printer is connected to another machine, only evince
runs on your local Linux or Mac OS X machine, the print filtering is
done on the remote machine. Is the remote machine also Precise? If it
runs an older Ubuntu version, there is most probably a bug which is
fixed in Precise. Try to upgrade the remote machine to Precise then.

Note also that Precise ships evince 3.4.0. The machine with evince 3.2.1
runs an older Ubuntu version, most probably Oneiric. The transition from
evince 3.2.1 to 3.4.0 can have improved the situation, too.

[Bug 987220] Re: System does not power off reliably when Shut Down chosen from GUI

2012-06-20 Thread Stefan Essl
Day 3:
Yesterday I did a BIOS configuration on 2 PCs: I told BIOS to load the
optimized defaults
and
saved (F10) the configuration.
The 2 PCs were the 2 were I tried the laptop-mode-tools, which worked as
described above...

Now after saving the BIOS settings, I tried today 3 times to shut down and
power off the PCs and...
SURPRISE it worked!!!

I tried it in the GUI and the first time
- immediatly after login = powered off!
- waiting a little bit and shut down without login = powered off!
- and last test was: logged in started an application (firefox, libreoffice)
waited about an hour and then shut down = powered off!

So 2 PCs now seem to work.
I will try it (BIOS default settings) with the other 5 PCs and will report my
expierience.

Best regards
stefan

[Bug 1015342] Re: Tools/manage tools/shortcuts: More help while defining shortcuts

2012-06-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
if bugreporting should be made simple and people should be encouraged
to do it again.

We don't discourage bug report but we don't need extra report as well,
we already get bugs report a magnitude higher than what our workforce
allows us to work on, in fact we need less bugs or to ignore all non
high priority issues. We do tend to take care and act about important
system issues, we don't have the resources to deal with extra tools
shortcut handling from the text editor sort of bugs though, they are
just too specialized corner cases and are better dealt with the app
writers

[Bug 987220] Re: System does not power off reliably when Shut Down chosen from GUI

2012-06-20 Thread Stefan Essl
Tested all 7 PCs with the default BIOS Settings:
- all turned off via GUI not logged in = powered off!
- all turned of via GUI logged in and all had an application running (firefox)
and they were powered on for about an hour = powered off!

Tomorrow i'll test them again, and hopefully all will power off as they
should!

Maybe this can help anyone with similar problems...

Best regards
stefan

[Bug 1015653] [NEW] No way to cycle through your own photos

2012-06-20 Thread Robin Sheat
Public bug reported:

If you open up the background settings panel, and add files of your own
to display, there seems to be no way to tell it to cycle through your
photos so you get to see them all. There is the built in photo
collection that does that, and that's nice, but it's not obvious how you
add your own.

[Bug 1015658] [NEW] oeg doesn't take focus when started from nautilus

2012-06-20 Thread nesthib
Public bug reported:

Similar to bug 358547 and bug 803983 but happens with only one screen
and starting with the first image.

When opening an image from nautilus either using the mouse (i.e. double-
click) or using the keyboard (i.e. pressing enter), eog starts, appears
in the foreground but doesn't have focus. Then actions performed are
done on nautilus window.

How to reproduce:

 - open nautilus
 - move to a directory containing images
 - select an image and either double-click or press enter (oeg is then started)
 - execute a keyboard command (e.g. ctrl+w to close the window)

The action is performed on the nautilus window even if eog appears in
the foreground (i.e. ctrl+w will close nautilus whereas the user expects
the action to be performed on eog window).

NB. I am using Ubuntu 12.04 but the bug was present in older releases. I
am using a gnome-classic session.

ok, weird, I'm unsure what eog has to do with that, the focus handling
is a wm thing and the action is triggered by nautilus... it would be
good to report upstream in any case, it's not likely anyone in the

[Bug 535268] [NEW] banshee creative zen V mtp sync doesn't work at all

2012-06-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: banshee

I am confident that libmtp (1.0.2.1-ubuntu1) works since Rhythmbox can
sync to the Creative Zen absolutely fine.

Banshee can not. This is frustrating since Banshee is much better than
the other music players in so many ways. But I need music sync'ing.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Connect Creative Zen 4GB to computer via USB
2) Observe device entry in Places menu and on desktop
3) Open Banshee
4) Attempt to sync some song to this device in Banshee
(occasionally) 5) Close and reopen Banshee if device does not appear in Banshee
first time

Expected result:
Tracks are sync'd successfully to the MTP device

Actual result:
Failure to sync anything to the device. Rhythmbox works fine. Output from
Banshee when started in terminal is attached

Lucid Lynx alpha 3 64bit
Daily PPA of Banshee 1.5.5+git20100307

[Bug 987220] Re: System does not power off reliably when Shut Down chosen from GUI

2012-06-20 Thread Michael Heyns
I've had this problem with 12.04 for a while. Had no idea what caused
it. Found a fix in ubuntuforums renaming priorities in upstart scripts
but never bookmarked the thread(12.04beta)

Struggled on recent install until I noticed reboot/shutdown worked when
dropping to tty1 and stopping lightdm service. I have updated my AMD graphics
driver to Catalyst version 12.4 and so far everything is back to normal,
including plymouth.
Will see if it persist.

[Bug 938605] Re: No way to cancel a drag in Nautilus

2012-06-20 Thread Ricardo Graça
This afffects me and I'm using a Mac aluminium keyboard, PT locale and I
have the Open terminal here extension installed and dropbox. Other
than that I don't think there's anything different from the stock
install. There has to be a common denominator here.

[Bug 954952] Re: Scrolling through the playlist with the mouse wheel also skips ahead/back in the current track

2012-06-20 Thread Nicolas Delvaux
Well, it seems the tutorial is out of date...

Here is what I think you should do:
(warning: I'm not an appointed reviewer so I may be wrong)

- Start from a clean repository (bzr branch lp:ubuntu/totem)

- Go in debian/patches and add your patch with a name like
95_fixscrolling_through_playlist.patch.
I attached an quilt version of your patch, you should use it.

- edit the series file and add the patch in the list.

- bzr add debian/patches/YOUR_PATCH

- dch -i , bzr bd -- -S -us -uc, sudo pbuilder build DSC_FILE.dsc

- When it's over, install and test debs from /var/cache/pbuilder/result.

- If it works as expected, you can follow this:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/HowToFix#Committing_the_fix

Hope this help!

if i set to single-click to open in nautilus (im trying to use nautilus

[Bug 1015778] [NEW] Gnome-terminal does not allow to use bash shortcut (M-f)

2012-06-20 Thread Alexander Kabakow
Public bug reported:

Checkout bash user manual at
http://www.gnu.org/software/bash/manual/bash.html#Searching

Gnome-terminal allow to use Alt+b shortcut to move one word back,
but does not allow to use Alt+f shortcut to move one word forward.

Gnome-terminal uses Alt+f shortcut as command to open the File menu.
I know that Alt+letter convenient is a standard,
but it definetly should allow to use standard bash shortcuts.
