[Bug 1015417] [NEW] Totem doesnt release memory when going to next file
Public bug reported: queue up some video files (I first noticed this on some large (800MB) .mkv files: 1080p, H264, 24fps, AAC audio) bring up the system monitor, and watch the memory usage for totem go up and up as the video plays. at the end of the first video, memory usage is around 600-900MB. when the second video starts playing, it will not drop down, but continue going up and up. My computer gets glitchy when it starts getting into the 900MB-1GB range of memory usage, but thats a symptom of just not enough RAM, and the fact that totem just doesnt release its memory usage (or at least not fast enough, if it does at all) My only option on these large video files is to: watch one, close totem, and then watch another, and repeat. [Bug 1013171] Re: Many package hooks not ported to python3
@Edward: For future ref, I have email addresses on my LP page, so this makes me wonder if they're properly visible. They are not. https://launchpad.net/~edward.donovan says No public address provided., I figure you need to agree to showing them in public. It's certainly a sensible default to not show them, as an email address on a public web page attracts a lot of spam. As for the print statement, print() works just as well in Python 2 as long as you don't use commas in there; if you do, it prints a tuple instead. So these are fine: print('hello') print('hello %s' % world) but this needs the __future__ statement or need to be rewritten to have one single argument: print('hello', 'world') -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1013171 Title: Many package hooks not ported to python3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/1013171/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 537970] Re: Evince does not print images in some pdf files.
Now I also lifted our laser printer to my office and printed Abschlussarbeit directly through the parallel port. You know what? The logo prints from within Evince. This indicates that the GNOME print dialog does stuff entirely different from what lpr and gtklp do with remote CUPS servers. In all former cases the same (as in ==, not as in .equals()) remote printer hardware was used. (This was also the very hardware that prints the logo when attached to the parallel port.) So that means that Evince in Precise prints just fine to a parallel port printer but not to a remote CUPS printer while gtklp and lpr print fine using the same remote CUPS printer that Evince fails to print to. That lead me to a new hypothesis: the remote CUPS server or one of its subsystems is buggy; printing from gtklp and lpr works because the hardware printer, attached to the CUPS server using Ethernet, is accessed directly from gtklp and lpr while Evince talks to the CUPS server. An experiment (printing a job using Evince and gtklp) refuted this: both jobs appeared in the CUPS job queue. What's also interesting is that the (failing) remote print job from Evince is listed as 1053k in the Size column in the CUPS jobs list for that printer while the gtklp job clocks in at 989k. And the absolute super joke is that after reattaching the darn laser printer and killing two stale print processes (hung since March) the bug disappeared and the logo prints correctly out of Evince. This is even more hilarious if you consider that this wasn't the first time we power- cycled the printer and the problems began long before March this year. I'm positive that the PNG printing problem will reappear. Until then I'm not able to repro this any further. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to poppler in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/537970 Title: Evince does not print images in some pdf files. [Bug 987220] Re: System does not power off reliably when Shut Down chosen from GUI
Shutdown hangs on the Ubuntu 12.04 shutdown screen and does not turn off. A couple of things to note: 1. This problem does not happen all the time. Approximately, for every 4 shutdowns 1 will work and 3 will hang and not complete. The Ubuntu shutdown screen does not display correctly on the 3 failures. Ubuntu appears larger than it should and there are no progress dots below it. On the one shutdown that completes Ubuntu appears at the right size on the shutdown screen and the progress dots are working. 2. This error coincided with the death of my Graphics card, I have no idea if they were related it was 4 years old so it could have been just normal wear and tear. Anyway whilst I waited for my new card I installed Xubuntu 12.04 on an old Dimension 3000 with integrated graphics, all shutdowns completed correctly. [Bug 1015342] Re: Tools/manage tools/shortcuts: More help while defining shortcuts
Okay - slowly understanding the system and intention . Bug 678460 at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=678460 . Offtopic: This bugreporting system needs reworking too, if bugreporting should be made simple and people should be encouraged to do it again. As it stands now, I can't encourage newcomers to report bugs. From here they are guided to another side, where you have to register, where you are encouraged to read multiple documents before proceeding. Then again, you have to select what product (gedit), ok - you read the bugdatabase whether the bug has been reported (insert keywords) - it hasn't and now again you have to insert which product (gedit) and which keywords. As a user, I don't know who is responsible, and don't want to repeat myself over and over again. There has to be a button in the help menu, whihc guides me to the right place. The product (gedit) should be already known then. Entering the keywords for search, should automatically select them for my new bugreport, if I create one from there. I'm glad that creating an additional account was simplified (OpenID). ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #678460 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=678460 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gedit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1015342 Title: Tools/manage tools/shortcuts: More help while defining shortcuts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gedit/+bug/1015342/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 537970] Re: Evince does not print images in some pdf files.
I also cannot reproduce the bug with your new attachment. Note that if your printer is connected to another machine, only evince runs on your local Linux or Mac OS X machine, the print filtering is done on the remote machine. Is the remote machine also Precise? If it runs an older Ubuntu version, there is most probably a bug which is fixed in Precise. Try to upgrade the remote machine to Precise then. Note also that Precise ships evince 3.4.0. The machine with evince 3.2.1 runs an older Ubuntu version, most probably Oneiric. The transition from evince 3.2.1 to 3.4.0 can have improved the situation, too.
Day 3: Yesterday I did a BIOS configuration on 2 PCs: I told BIOS to load the optimized defaults and saved (F10) the configuration. The 2 PCs were the 2 were I tried the laptop-mode-tools, which worked as described above... Now after saving the BIOS settings, I tried today 3 times to shut down and power off the PCs and... SURPRISE it worked!!! I tried it in the GUI and the first time - immediatly after login = powered off! - waiting a little bit and shut down without login = powered off! - and last test was: logged in started an application (firefox, libreoffice) waited about an hour and then shut down = powered off! if bugreporting should be made simple and people should be encouraged to do it again. Public bug reported: If you open up the background settings panel, and add files of your own to display, there seems to be no way to tell it to cycle through your photos so you get to see them all. [Bug 1015658] [NEW] oeg doesn't take focus when started from nautilus
Public bug reported: Similar to bug 358547 and bug 803983 but happens with only one screen and starting with the first image. When opening an image from nautilus either using the mouse (i.e. double- click) or using the keyboard (i.e. pressing enter), eog starts, appears in the foreground but doesn't have focus. Then actions performed are done on nautilus window. How to reproduce: - open nautilus - move to a directory containing images - select an image and either double-click or press enter (oeg is then started) - execute a keyboard command (e.g. ctrl+w to close the window) The action is performed on the nautilus window even if eog appears in the foreground (i.e. ctrl+w will close nautilus whereas the user expects the action to be performed on eog window). NB. I am using Ubuntu 12.04 but the bug was present in older releases. [Bug 954952] Re: Scrolling through the playlist with the mouse wheel also skips ahead/back in the current track
Well, it seems the tutorial is out of date... Here is what I think you should do: (warning: I'm not an appointed reviewer so I may be wrong) - Start from a clean repository (bzr branch lp:ubuntu/totem) - Go in debian/patches and add your patch with a name like 95_fixscrolling_through_playlist.patch. I attached an quilt version of your patch, you should use it. - edit the series file and add the patch in the list. - bzr add debian/patches/YOUR_PATCH - dch -i , bzr bd -- -S -us -uc, sudo pbuilder build DSC_FILE.dsc - When it's over, install and test debs from /var/cache/pbuilder/result. - If it works as expected, you can follow this: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/HowToFix#Committing_the_fix Hope this help! ** Patch added: 95_fix_scrolling_through_playlist.patch https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/954952/+attachment/3197960/+files/95_fix_scrolling_through_playlist.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/954952 Title: Scrolling through the playlist with the mouse wheel also skips ahead/back in the current track To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/954952/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
