[Bug 164120] Re: file manager hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible

2012-07-27 Thread Norbert
Hello, guys!
I still get this error on Natty 11.04.
If mounted NFS share gone away I can't start new nautilus windows and apps
dependent on Nautlius (for example, FreeFileSync).

[Bug 781931] Re: New windows are moved to front but don't take focus

2012-07-27 Thread zzarko
I have this issue with windows not taking focus after being moved to
front with Synaptic (when I click to apply, and after the downloading
phase, when applying changes starts, Synaptic window comes to front but
doesn't take focus) and uget (I'm using flashgot firefox extension, and
when I select some link to download, uget window comes to front but
doesn't take focus). There are more programs, but these I can remember
right now. I'll test nautilus patch during weekend.

[Bug 863154] Re: Wacom Bamboo One tablet random coordinate malfunctions

2012-07-27 Thread Magnes
WIll there be any fix soon? Because it makes me unable to work. The
problem is system wide - when the jump occurs I click accidentally on
Unity icons (so it's not binded to any application - like GIMP or
MyPaint). I use MyPaint for my work, so fix only for GIMP isn't enough.

[Bug 998156] Re: GTK Print dialog sends broken custom page size attribute: PageSize=Custom.Custom.widthxlength

2012-07-27 Thread TJ
This also affects Evince and Gedit.

I discovered the bug whilst trying to print using Evince to a custom page size
(A4 but with a 40mm left border) which I called Sunshine Border.
Both preview and printing either fail or sometimes print using default A4
margins. I was trying to track down the cause for that inconsistency and
followed a bug-trail to this report.

I compared Evince against Gedit. After selecting the custom size in the Print
dialog (in my case Sunshine Border) I found Gedit's preview will show the
40mm border, but printing fails...
... UNLESS I have previously used the CUPS printer administration to set the
default page-size to 'Custom' and entered the 210x297 millimetre values.

http://localhost:631/admin/

 Printers DESKJET-995C Administration Set Default Options...
Media Size = Custom, Width=210, Height=297, Units=Millimeters  Set
Default Options.

I noticed in CUPS error_log that PageSize wasn't 0x0 for me (only get
that when selecting Custom when the size hasn't been configured in
CUPS administrator):

PageSize=Custom.Custom.595.28x841.89

At first I thought this was in millimeters and is wrong, but then
realised the units are points (1 PostScript point = 0.35278
millimetres).

So, in summary:

Gedit: Can print using custom paper size as long as CUPS default custom size is
also configured, and custom margins are honoured.
Evince: Can print using custom paper size as long as CUPS default custom size
is also configured, but custom margins are ignored.

[Bug 1029912] [NEW] Evince ignores custom page size margins

2012-07-27 Thread TJ
Public bug reported:

Affects 12.04 Precise. This appears identical to bug #348202 Impossible
to print to custom page size in Evince.

Evince doesn't respect a custom paper size with a reduced margin ( for
printing on pre-printed paper).

Using a HP Deskjet 995C A4 ink-jet printer with duplexer which contains
pre-printed A4 paper stock. This paper has a printed border down the
left side. Avoiding it requires the page to use a 40mm left margin.

I need a custom paper size based on the A4 210x297mm size with margins
12.7, 12.7, 40.0, 3.2 mm.

In Evince I did:

File Print... General Printer = DESKJET-995C
  Page Setup Paper size Manage Custom Sizes...
  Margins from Printer...  DESKJET-995C
  Paper Margins: Left = 40.0
  Name = Sunshine Border
   Close
  Paper size = Sunshine Border
 Print

The result is as if printing to the standard A4 paper-size. The left
margin is not honoured.

I found that Gedit does honour the margin. For more information see also
my comment no. 60 on a related high-priority bug #998156 GTK Print

[Bug 1029932] [NEW] Brightness and Volume laptop keys behave inconsistently

Holding the volume up button causes the volume to continually go up. The

This inconsistency can be confusing for users. I believe the preferable

[Bug 1029894] Re: Shotwell drag and drop does not work.

2012-07-27 Thread Lucas Beeler
This ticket really should be marked invalid -- and I say this as an
upstream Shotwell dev. Shotwell can be run in two modes. One of these
modes is library mode, where Shotwell manages a library of photos,
allowing tagging, events, etc. However, Shotwell can also be invoked in
direct edit mode, where Shotwell is invoked on a single image to allow
quick re-touching, etc.

In the video, Shotwell is running in direct edit mode. Drag and drop has
never been supported in direct edit mode, since the whole point of
direct edit mode is to directly edit a single photo. Drag and drop
only works in library mode for importing and exporting photos to and
from the Shotwell library.

So Shotwell is functioning as designed.

If drag drop in direct edit mode is a desired feature in Shotwell,
that should be opened as a feature request on our upstream bug tracker
at http://redmine.yorba.org.

[Bug 1029965] [NEW] Add chat client selection

2012-07-27 Thread Jerry Quinn
Public bug reported:

This is almost but not quite an enhancement request.

I'm tripping over bugs in Empathy that I don't encounter with Pidgin.
I'd like Pidgin to be the default chat client, at least until I can get

[Bug 998156] Re: GTK Print dialog sends broken custom page size attribute: PageSize=Custom.Custom.widthxlength

2012-07-27 Thread TJ
In modules/printbackends/cups/gtkprintbackendcups.c:

 static void
 add_cups_options (const gchar *key,
  const gchar *value,
  gpointer user_data)
 {
 ...
   /* Add Custom. prefix to custom values. */
   if (custom_value)
{
  new_value = g_strdup_printf (Custom.%s, value);
  gtk_cups_request_encode_option (request, key, new_value);
  g_free (new_value);
}
   else
gtk_cups_request_encode_option (request, key, value);
 }

This is called from:

 static void gtk_print_backend_cups_print_stream (...) {
 ...
  gtk_print_settings_foreach (settings, add_cups_options, options_data);
 ...
 }

which is called via the ops pointer print_stream:

 backend_class-print_stream = gtk_print_backend_cups_print_stream;

The Custom. code was added:

commit 8170436e61ea68c713d75ad374d22c3261be9203
Author: Benjamin Berg benja...@sipsolutions.net
Date:   Sat Dec 24 17:26:32 2011 +0100

Set cups Custom print options correctly (bug #543520, patch by Marek Kašík)

This patch fixes the cups print backend to pass Custom options with
the Custom. prefix to cups if neccessary.

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=543520

In comment nos. 25 and 27 of that report Benjamin Berg describes this
Custom. prefix problem and a patch to remove it when the GTK+ print
dialog. Commit 8170436e61ea68 was found to cause a crash in Thunderbird
and Inkscape, and was subsequently revised by commit 9afe13bf91.

commit 9afe13bf91d8e80c4def7d3944d56542ce13733f
Author: Marek Kasik mka...@redhat.com
Date:   Tue Jan 31 12:15:43 2012 +0100

printing: Don't crash when printing

This commit fixes crash which occurs in Firefox, Thunderbird and Inkscape
during printing. This crash was caused because of wrong handling of Custom
CUPS options. (#543520)

These commits are included in Ubuntu's 3.4.2 release.

My suspicion is that this code in create_pickone_option () {
...
  if (option-type != GTK_PRINTER_OPTION_TYPE_PICKONE)
{
  if (g_str_has_prefix (ppd_option-defchoice, Custom.))
gtk_printer_option_set (option, ppd_option-defchoice + 7);
  else
gtk_printer_option_set (option, ppd_option-defchoice);
}
  else
...
}

isn't being executed in some circumstances, leading to the Custom.
prefix received from CUPS then being further prefixed by
add_cups_options() when the -print_stream op is called.

[Bug 1029979] [NEW] Keyboard Layouts are not picked up from evdev.extras.xml

2012-07-27 Thread Jasey
Public bug reported:

Running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

In /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules there is the following XML Files

base.xml
base.extras.xml
evdev.xml
evdev.extras.xml

plus some symbolic links.

evdev base are pretty much the same, and Gnome-control-center uses
evdev files.

evdev.extras.xml has information on extra language/keyboard layouts,
including APL, Franch Canadian, Dvorak layouts, and so on. and these are
not picked up by the keyboard layout in gnome-control-center.

I copied the layout information from evdev.extras.xml and gnome-control-
center picked these up, however after updates (to xkb) these files are
reverted and the options are no longer available.

gnome-control-center should look in both evdev.xml and evdev.extras.xml
for these options

[Bug 1030028] [NEW] gnome-control-center, bluetooth setting not persistent over reboots

2012-07-27 Thread Colin King
Public bug reported:

In Precise 12.04 LTS the bluetooth settings were persistent across
reboots, which is useful since most users don't use bluetooth and
disabling it can save ~1W of power. Having to disable it every time one
boots up and logs-in is annoying.

In Quantal 12.10 this feature has disappeared. Can we have it re-

[Bug 1022488] Re: [region]: does not modify /etc/default/keyboard

2012-07-27 Thread alexus
As I wrote early:
I'm using English (default) and Russian layouts with toggle by Caps key.
I've tried other toggle buttons (e.g., Ctrl+Shift) and I've checked xkb-data
version 2.5-1ubuntu1 (precise) and 2.5-1ubuntu1.3 (precise-proposed). Both are
affected.
  xkb-data in precise-proposed still has the version 2.5-1ubuntu1.3. - Nothing
changed during last two weeks.

  I found a way to reproduce the issue:
  I'm using USB keyboard. Disconnect the keyboard's cable and reconnect it back
always leads to override of ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/
settings by mentioned in /etc/default/keyboard.
  Attempt to change settings via GnomeControlCenter works until the next
reconnection of keyboard (or reboot).

[Bug 1030069] [NEW] totem full screen get frozen picture

2012-07-27 Thread melchiaros
Public bug reported:

totem get sometimes a frozen video(flash) picture when playing the video
in fullscreen mode.

Sound is still playing further.

The controll elements of totem do not appear when the mouse touches the
periperie of the screen.

A reliable reproducing procedure I can not give, because it only happens
sometimes.

Reproducing try:

1.Insert a dvd with flash video content
2.Open nautilus and choose a video
3.double click - Quantal starts totem by default
4.When the video is running switch to fullscreen mode
5.May be you see the issue described above.

The compiz seqfault in XsessionErrors.txt is happends after the totem

See this as independend of this report. I was just searching for a

[Bug 883272] Re: Mouse navigation not working in fullscreen mode

2012-07-27 Thread bwat47
Allesandro, I've replicated this on a multiple clean precise installs,
as well as clean installs of other distros (fedora/arch). There is bug
reports for this on fedora's tracker as well. This seems to be an
upstream bug only effecting certain types of touchpads (works fine on my
older laptop, but not on my newer laptop with an elantech touchpad)

I've reported it upstream here:

[Bug 1027979] Re: No option to encrypt home folder when adding new user via GUI

2012-07-27 Thread Tyler Hicks
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not directly cause loss of data/privacy.

You can use 'adduser --encrypt-home' to add a user with an encrypted
home directory. It would be a nice feature if the gnome-control-center
could configure encrypted home directories, but that is a missing
feature and not a vulnerability.

[Bug 1030125] [NEW] Power Statistics UI comes up blank after having been closed with the window close button instead of the dedicated Close button in the UI

2012-07-27 Thread Ivan Sagalaev
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. Use a laptop
2. From the battery indicator menu in the Unity top panel select the battery -
the Power Statistics window shows up looking normal with all the UI elements
visible and working.
3. Close the Power Statistics window with the system Close button in the top
left corner of the window title.
4. Open Power Statistics from the battery menu again - the window shows up
without any UI elements, just a plain gray background under the window title.

- This does not happen when closed with the dedicated Close button in the
right bottom corner of Power Statistics UI

[Bug 1029869] Re: OSD notification fails to appear - USB pen drive eject

2012-07-27 Thread Bilal Akhtar
The notification comes up randomly in my case. Most of the time it
doesn't pop up, but on some random unmounts, it does.

Gvfs and Nautilus handle this part as far as I know.

[Bug 885989] Re: white screen on second monitor when using two xsessions

2012-07-27 Thread earthmeLon
I've found using Metacity (vs Compiz) as my system's window decorator
allows me better control of programs shown on any additional screens,
whilst disabling most of my Composite/3D Acceleration. (Looking into the
composite/3d issue further may result on a solution, I'm just not
willing to bother)

After applying the patch, play around with different managers and see if
you can get the desired results. Like I said, Metacity actually
decorated windows I spawn on any display/screen which allows me to
interact with said windows once they have been created.

Additionally, I have since migrated away from Ubuntu to stock Debian. I
am also looking into Ubuntu variants, such as Lubuntu and Xubuntu to see
what dual-head support they may provide.

Again, with all the respect in the word to the developers of this and
every other program available to me today, I don't understand how
Nautilus is the default file manager for Ubuntu with such problems.

[Bug 996851] Re: highlighting current line does not work

2012-07-27 Thread Zon Saja
I don't think this is an upstream bug (Gedit). It is caused by GtkView style
selector in gtk-widgets.css in Ambiance theme, so that its child elemets
inherit the style. See this post:
http://www.fandigital.com/2012/07/ambiance-fix-gedits-highlight-current.html
I hope this helps.

[Bug 1030185] [NEW] Incomplete FTP file listings ( NOT related to large listings)

2012-07-27 Thread Dr. Clue
Public bug reported:

An odd behavior in FTP nautilus , not shared by other systems connecting
to the same FTP server is files with apparently proper file permissions
are not showing up in the nautilus display.

The behavior is consistent after reboot as are the files not being
shown. Apparently upon reaching a certain point in the file listing the
remainder simply are not displayed. Files not displayed include text
files (.php), binaries ,and sub-directories

These are by no means large file listings either, having perhaps less
than 100 entries.

Other systems (Mac in this case) were able to display all the files
,which leads me to believe this to be a bug relating to nautilus or one
of it's sub-components involved in FTP based interactions.

[Bug 1030121] Re: package gnome-control-center-data 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu0.3 failed to install/upgrade: failed to read on buffer copy for md5hash: Input/output error

2012-07-27 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test.  Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
