Re: [Bug 1035219] Re: In System Settings preference tool/keyboard layouts page automaticaly wrong language selectedGNOME

2012-08-12 Thread Attila Hammer
An interesting test result for officialy Ubuntu 12.04 hungarian language
localized CD image:
This CD image containing only hungarian language related language
packages and language support related packages.
If I enable universe and multiverse repositoryes, installed
gnome-session-fallback package, logout and log in with GNOME Classict No
effects session, I experienced following:
If I launch system settings application, choose keyboard layout
preference tool, navigate TAB key the language list table, the selected
language is Chinese. I don't no keyboard layout preference tool how can
detect chinese language, because chinese related language packs are of
course not installed the hungarian 12.04 CD image.
After I activated the all settings button, log out and login back the
GNOME Classic No effects session, language related environments values
is following:
LANG=zh_CN.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=zh_CN:hu:en

This buggy language related setting change resulted a mixed
chinese/hungarian language desktop. For example, in the live system
desktop icon names changed with chinese names, but GNOME application
menu elements are keeped the hungarian menu translations.
This problem happening only when I using keyboard navigation the
keyboard layout preference pane. Unfortunately visualy impaired screen
reader users need using the keyboard navigation to navigate all dialogs.
Before users not land the language list table in keyboard layouts
preference pane unable to switch the layouts page tab with
CTRL+ALT+PAGEUP or CTRL+ALT+PAGEDOWN key combinations. If I click direct
with layouts page with Orca Screen Reader left click flat review command
(this is equals with left mouse button click with layouts page tab), the
problem doesn't happening.

If not have better fix alternative, please disable the language and
formats related page tabs in GNOME Fallback sessions, similar with Unity
and Unity 2d shells.

Attila

[Bug 1035843] [NEW] Trash doesn't work on NFS mounted partitions

2012-08-12 Thread l0b0
Public bug reported:

As reported elsewhere http://askubuntu.com/questions/172620/how-to-
enable-trash-for-nfs-mounts:

The /home/users directory on my host is an NFS mount connected to a
server which is not in my control. When deleting files in $HOME
(/home/users/foo) with Nautilus I get the following message:

Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete immediately?

The file ... cannot be moved to the trash.

Is there some way to enable trash for this mount point? I have write
access to the partition, but even after creating the expected
/home/users/.Trash-$(id -u) and setting the sticky bit, Nautilus still
fails to use the trash.

When reading this question http://askubuntu.com/questions/27176/how-
does-the-trash-can-work-and-where-can-i-find-official-documentation-
refer and the Trash Specification
http://www.ramendik.ru/docs/trashspec.html I found that
$HOME/.local/share/Trash is the standard location (unless $XDG_DATA_HOME
is set), and it looks like Nautilus is only half-aware of this: It does
indeed write a
$HOME/.local/share/Trash/info/[filename].number.trashinfo every time I
try to delete a file, but the files are all empty and I still keep
getting the error message.

[Bug 225361] Re: .gvfs can't be stat'd by root causing backup tools to fail

2012-08-12 Thread Jakob Unterwurzacher
** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: gvfs
+ Problem
+ ===
+ For security reasons ( possible DoS ), other users (esp. root) cannot access
a fuse filesystem, and not even stat the mountpoint:

- I tried to copy the contents of my home-folder using sudo cp -a, and I got
- cp: cannot stat '/home/user/.gvfs': Permission denied

+ ls: cannot access .gvfs: Permission denied
+ d? ? ? ? ?? .gvfs

- This can be reproduced whenever /home/user/.gvfs is mounted according to
- /etc/mtab. Not only does cp yield an error, but also ls and cd:
+ This means rsync --one-file-system (and similar options for find,
+ tar...) cannot know this is a different file system they actually want
+ to exclude, and fail on the permission denied error.

[Bug 39890]

2012-08-12 Thread José Aliste
For the problem in the minimal example, the culprit seems to be in
TextSelectionPainter::visitWord, which assumes that all the chars in a
word use the same font. This is demonstrated by adding a space After
Word: in the bad line. This also explain why this bug is very common
with LaTeX files.

Patch fixing the issue

Actually, All the chars in a TextWord MUST share the same font, so I
added a check so we also create a new word when the font changes. The
attached patch fixes the bug in the minimal example and many other
problems when selecting text in PdfLatex-generated files, but there are
still issues in rendering selections with Bitmapped fonts. In this case,
the glyph seems right but the size is wrong.

The last patch does not fix either some problems when selecting
ligatures in some fonts, see
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jvms/second_edition/ClassFileFormat-
final-draft.pdf, page 54 and look for the word reflective which is
rendered as reßective (althought the text select is indeed
reflective. This does not happen with all fonts, for instance, in a
pdflatex generated file, I could not reproduce the problem.

[Bug 39890]

2012-08-12 Thread José Aliste
I assumed that the only code that is updating the curFont is
TextPage::updateFont. If this is true, from what I understood from the
code, the fonts array holds unique FontInfos, so it would be safe to
compare pointers instead of FontInfos. So, is this right? If so, and you
still want me to rework the patch so it compares the fonts infos instead
of the pointers, I won't argue and will update the patch, but I'd
appreciate an answer so I can have a better understanding of the code,
Thanks

[Bug 39890]

2012-08-12 Thread José Aliste
Thanks for the regression. The problem here is that bold: has two
fonts since bold is italicised and : not, so before the patch,
bold: is a TextWord and pdftotext get the text right, but drawing the
selection is bad since the selected : would be drawn italicised.
After the patch, bold: gets splitted up into bold and : so it gets
drawn correctly when selected, but you have the regression you pointed
out. So, I believe I am stuck with this choice:

a). I could either allow more than one font on a TextWord, and adapt the
code that draws the TextWord to use that fact, so the selected : does
not get transform to a italicised : when drawing it.

b) or I could fix the TextDumper to be aware of the fact in some cases
there is no space between two TextWord.

c) Do you have another way?

I think I want to take approach a) even if it could more complicated,
but approach b) seems that it could break more things that it would
fix... thinking that when doing selection by words would not work at
all. What do you think?

[Bug 39890]

2012-08-12 Thread Frepdesktoh
It's perfectly natural that every letter in a word be in a different
font, colour, or style so that needs to be allowed for (the text could
even a scan of some handwriting, or several scans), . ...what pdftotext
is trying to do is to replicate what would be found in a Tagged PDF
(Section 9.7 of the PDF Reference), effectively synthesising what would
ideally be found in '/BMC.../EMC' '/ActualText' contents.

To that end I'm inclined to agree that (b) sounds like non-ideal kludge
on top of non-ideal kludge.

I tend to agree with Paul that is fine for a word to have different
fonts, but on the other hand one can argue if the : in that situation
is part of the word or not.

I'd say 1 is a better solution but if you can get 2 with a clean
enough code i won't be oposed to it either.

Personally i think text selection should have been done in client side
(like we do in Okular) and not modyfing poppler internal structures
but that's a bit too late i guess :D

When I select the Wrong line in PDF from comment 2, BCDГ is changing not to

copy-paste that line, I get Wrong:BCD, without the last letter.

@José: Please, do something with this! Sometimes selecting text does
really terrible things (take a look at 3 screenshots in this archive:

[Bug 1035623] Re: package desktop-file-utils 0.20-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 132

2012-08-12 Thread Alessandro Menti
Thanks for your report.

The error occurs because the ESET module used to scan files when they
are accessed is not fully compatible with Ubuntu 12.04, as stated in the
ESET FAQ at
http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=contentid=SOLN2722ref=wsf - in
this case, it causes some programs invoked during the update to crash.

Unfortunately, the only things you could do is to wait for a new version
of ESET to be released, uninstall ESET completely or downgrade to Ubuntu
10.04 (11.04 - the latest Ubuntu version which supports ESET - is
scheduled not to be supported anymore from October 2012).

In the meantime, I recommend uninstalling ESET - the malware rate for
Linux is really low at the moment, and there is no need for an antivirus
program. In case you still want a scanner (for example, to remove
malware designed for Windows from removable media, or to scan e-mails),
I recommend ClamAV, available from the Ubuntu repositories.

As this is not an Ubuntu-related bug, I'm closing this report - feel
free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 886323] Re: Thumbnail Creation on Digital Camera Slows System and Crashes Nautlilus

2012-08-12 Thread NiBu
I have the same problem with my Canon EOS 550D. The thumbnail process of MOV
files almost never ends making copying of files from the camera very slow
(10kb/s).
This bug is very critical - low priority is hard to understand to me. Should
not Ubuntu be good for beginners?

[Bug 1035896] [NEW] iPod syncing in Rhythmbox deletes static playlists on iPod

2012-08-12 Thread jl
Public bug reported:

When syncing my iPod classic 120gb, everything works fine except that
any static playlist generated on the iPod is deleted after the sync.
These playlists include On-the-Go playlists and any newly saved
playlists on the iPod itself. Creating a playlist via right-click-New
Playlist on the iPod will allow me to create the playlist, but when I
hit 'Sync' any playlist I create will have disappeared.

All of the smart playlists that were generated via iTunes remain intact.
Playlists created in and sync'd from Rhythmbox remain intact.

The expected behavior is for Rhythmbox to leave those playlists alone
unless I explicitly delete them.

2012-08-12 Thread Ed Williams
I also get this bug on a newly installed 12.4 with Seagate ST2000DM001

all diagnostics, but average seek time is 14.2 to 14.4 ms.

based on question 184477 I ran

[Bug 1035939] [NEW] wireless connection lost while testing it with gstreamer-properties

2012-08-12 Thread konstantine
Public bug reported:

When I try to test my camera using the gstreamer-properties application, as
soon as I press the Test button, I lose my wifi connection and the wlan0
interface is not listed any more when i run the ifconfig -a command. So the
only way to reconnect, is by restarting my laptop.

I also tried to check my camera using cheese application, but the same
problem appears: wifi is lost, no camera is activated.

If i check my camera using the folowing command mplayer tv:// -tv
driver=v4l2:width=640:height=480:device=/dev/video0, it works fine.

I have this problem not only in the curent ubuntu version, but many
versions back.

My laptop is a Toshiba satellite L300D, and the camera is build in.

[Bug 1034080] Re: no About menu item

2012-08-12 Thread Amr Ibrahim
I think Ubuntu should keep Nautilus to the latest version and fix or add
what's missing instead of choosing another file manager. Nautilus is
very familiar and well integrated into GNOME. The Ubuntu developers
should focus on fixing Nautilus and improve the user experience of
Ubuntu as a whole, and not to waste effort and time on adopting another
file manager.

Just started encountering this problem. Trying to shutdown merely logs

[Bug 1029531] Re: cdromupgrade from Lucid to Precise failed with unmet dependencies without network connection

2012-08-12 Thread Stéphane Graber
I successfully upgraded an Ubuntu 10.04.4 desktop image to 12.04.1 using
only the alternate media, so the resolver issues appear to be fixed. The
test was done using an amd64 install.

However to consider this verification-done and have them copied to
-updates (before the 7 days), we're still waiting on a no-regression
confirmation from QA for automated 10.04 to 12.04 and 11.10 to 12.04
upgrades.

[Bug 1036002] [NEW] Can confirm problem with the same chipset

2012-08-12 Thread André Gregor-Herrmann
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I can confirm the error with my wlan-stick. It works perfectly in an
initial install of ubuntu 12.04 after updating to the latest patch state
via update-manager the device just stopped working properly.

Due this happend to my old install and could not solve it, I decided to
have a look using the device with live-cd of ubuntu 12.04. It worked
without any problems. So I did a fresh install of ubuntu 12.04 and it
still worked as it should.

After (and even while) updating the system via update-manager to latest
patch level, the device did see much less networks in the area and
finally could not connect with my own wlan.

Heres my device (had the same problem with a netgear usb device WNA 1000M using
the same chipset = store refund and bough another device, due I thought it was
simply broken):
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 050d:2103 Belkin Components F7D2102 802.11n N300 Micro
Wireless Adapter v3000 [Realtek RTL8192CU]

I tracked some logging of syslog which is hopefully helpful for you
(will add it later, because I cannot access the textfile at the moment).

[Bug 1036007] [NEW] Screen brightness control only switches between 'off' and lowest setting

2012-08-12 Thread Artis Rozentāls
Public bug reported:

With the brightness setting anywhere under about 80% the backlight of my
netbook turns off, everything over that is what appears the lowest
setting and the three steps available (i.e. don't turn off the
backlight) don't change the brightness at all.

This started after a battery discharge while connected to an external
monitor.

[Bug 996770] Re: Lock screen is occasionally solid black except for mouse cursor after resuming from suspend

2012-08-12 Thread Corey O.
I am having the same problem on both my new asus zenbook prime and my
old custom-built desktop. The problem exists in both gnome-classic and
gnome-shell, so it is not gnome/unity/compiz specific. This is a pretty
major bug as it sometimes causes me to lose my work. I should mention
that both setups usually use dual monitors. I'm not sure if that makes
any difference.
