[Bug 976624] Re: Add support for keywords

2012-08-22 Thread Nekhelesh Ramananthan
Chris, these keywords are used *only* for the sole purpose of improving
the matching in the dash. Currently, a new user can find totem in the
dash by explicitly searching for totem, movie. However the keywords will
help the user find totem using other generic terms such as Film, DVD etc
etc.. They do not appear in any form in the user-visible UI.

Agreed.

I disabled now, so I can move my cursor between monitors easily, but it
still stops sometimes.

What is the right way for moving mouse cursor between displays? Make it
fast?:) Really, I cannot find a proper and/or official description.

[Bug 39890]

2012-08-22 Thread Albert Astals Cid
Good news first, it does not change the output of pdftotext (well it
does it in a file, but i don't consider it a regression)

Yay :-)

Now onto the review of the code itself.

From what i can read it seems it is possible to have in the same word
fonts with different WMode (i.e. fonts written vertically and
horizontally) i don't think this makes any sense.

What do you think?

Note i have *not* verified it fixes the problem mentioned in this bug.
Carlos can you do that part?

Yes, it is possible for one word to have fonts with different WModes.
Still looking into it, but I suppose it will need to start a new word on
WMode changes.

Carlos: I don't know why you do not see a difference. Without this
patch, selecting text in the minimal example changes the text to ABC.
With this patch, it stays BCD.

Before being merged, the width of the 'i' is 0.923076. In

'K', reducing its width to 0.349866.

[Bug 1035261] Re: Port compiz to gsettings and consequently remove unity-2d

2012-08-22 Thread Timo Jyrinki
** Description changed:

  Porting compiz and so unity to gsettings has a lot of consequences:
  - compiz:
    * remove the conffile for 2nd (autologin) fallback mechanism
    * build with gsettings support
    * add migration scripts
    * add xml files for the g-c-c integration (we used the metacity ones before)
  - unity :
    * gconf - gsettings patches (2)
    * rebuild with the new gsettings compiz
    * add transitional packages for all unity-2d packages
    * add migration scripts
  - nux:
    * remove the X11 Xsession.d detection script
  - gnome-control-center:
   * should be ported in both the keyboard part by reverting the gsettings
revert patch
   * in the unity background configuration panels to support gsettings
   * in the display configuration panels to support gsettings
  - gnome-settings-daemon to drop the gsettings revert patch:
  - metacity should be updated to 2.34.2 (gsettings integration, shared with
compiz). Sync back with debian, demote to universe - this forces us to drop a
lot of patches to make unity-2d running
  - consequently, dropping unity-2d because of metacity patches won't be
ported, and unity-2d isn't maintained to port from gconf to gsettings:. Removal
from the archive
  - lightdm to transition people from unity-2d to unity-3d session
  - unity-greeter to drop hardware detection capability for nux
  - gnome-session to drop the unity-2d session and recommends
  - release-upgrader in precise to detect if the card can't run unity-3d, and
if so, show a warning to tell to stay on the LTS
  - ubuntu-desktop seed to remove dep on unity-2d

  People forcing the upgrade or installing on a machine without hardware
  acceleration will then use unity with llvmpipe.

  ---
  WHAT IS REMAINING:

  ubuntu-release-upgrade - we will deal that with mvo later on.

  all above components that are fix commited (apart unity):

  TESTING THE MIGRATION:

  1. have the old g-c-c, change unity values in it (launcher size, hide mode…),
change keybindings (a lot of them in different categories, launcher,
navigation… like changing workspace keys)
  2. install new g-c-c (lp:~ubuntu-desktop/gnome-control-center/ubuntu),
compiz, unity with all the settings migration
  3. logout/login
  4. check that the keys are transitionned to the new system: launcher
size/hide mode are the changed values and corresponds and the values are shown
in the new g-c-c. Same thing with the changed keybidings.

This patch breaks the keyboard layout switcher from KDE3 and Trinity. It
works correctly with the layout switcher in KDE4. Have other people
tested this patch with other layout switchers? What are the results?

[Bug 974963] Re: [soundnua]: hdmi audio missing in sound settings

2012-08-22 Thread David Henningsson
Hi!

While working with a colleague today I discovered a bug that could make
the device disappear after S3 suspend/resume. Maybe it is related?

In that process I also made a debug dkms with the fix in, and some debug
messages (prefixed with Diwic in the dmesg log).
Here it is. Does it help?

[Bug 1040050] [NEW] R script misidentified as MATLAB script/function

2012-08-22 Thread Hendrik
Public bug reported:

This has been observed on Ubuntu 11.04 and 12.04 (so it probably also
occurs in 11.10).

An R script (http://www.r-project.org/) is a text file with the
extension .R. If the file starts with a comment (the first line starts
with ##) - which is very common for source code - the file type listed
in Nautilus is MATLAB script/function. This is annoying given that R
can be seen as competitor to MATLAB.

If the file doesn't start with ##, it is identified as plain text
document, which is not really specific, but also not wrong.

I would suggest to identify text files as MATLAB script/function only
if they have the appropriate extension .m. This should also solve bug
#319533. Further, it would be nice to add a file type for R script.

[Bug 408903] Re: Does not handle microphone mute button (KEY_MICMUTE)

2012-08-22 Thread James M. Leddy
That's odd, the only thing I changed is a configuration file
/lib/udev/keymaps/module-lenovo . If you want, you can install the old
udev and just modify that file and you _should_ have it working. What
distro/version are you using? I can help out by debugging on the same
platform.

Here's the patch if you want to edit module-lenovo yourself:

[Bug 848562] Re: gnome-shell lock screen does not display password prompt

2012-08-22 Thread jdahm
I had the issue described above, and decided to give the nouveau driver
a try instead of the proprietary nvidia driver I had been using. I
cleared out all graphics card and monitor related sections from
xorg.conf file and replaced simply with

Section Device
Identifier nvidia card
Driver nouveau
Option GLXBlank true
EndSection

then launched in gnome-control-center and arranged the monitors next to
one another. Now the lock screen dialog always shows up on the monitor
the mouse was last set.

[Bug 1037196] Re: Set network proxy to none, yet http_proxy env var is still set in bash after new login

2012-08-22 Thread dregad
I experience a very similar problem.

Funny enough, other proxy variables in the gnome-control-center network
applet (https_proxy, ftp_proxy, socks host) are set correctly and
reflected as entered in terminal, e.g.

$ env |grep https_proxy
https_proxy=http://domain\user:password@proxy.example.com:8080/

For http_proxy however, it appears that the contents of the HTTP Proxy
field is concatenated to some other values (coming from god knows
where), which are actually some old authentication data, set prior to
upgrading to 12.04:

$ env |grep http_proxy
http_proxy=http://old_domain%5Cold_user:old_password@domain\user:password@proxy.example.com:8080/

where 'domain\user:password@proxy.example.com:8080/' is what I
actually entered in the control center.

I could not find any trace of either old domain, user or password
anywhere on the system (searched in gconf-editor and global grep)

[Bug 1040193] [NEW] Redundant ubuntu-online-accounts and gnome-online-accounts panels using a session other than Unity

2012-08-22 Thread Dylan McCall
Public bug reported:

To reproduce this, close gnome-control-center and run the following command:
env XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME gnome-control-center

Note that there are two Online Accounts panels: one for ubuntu-online-
accounts and one for gnome-online-accounts. This is very unpleasant.
These two panels claim to do the same thing, but ultimately they have
nothing to do with each other.

To make matters worse, the gnome-online-accounts panel doesn't appear to
do much of anything by default (except probably with Evolution) since
Empathy has been built to use ubuntu-online-accounts — to the extent
that Empathy will open that configuration panel when the user chooses
Accounts from its menu.

** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 861171] Re: Shutdown from greeter does nothing when multiple accounts open

2012-08-22 Thread parq
@Florian,

You're right!! This isn't a full solution.

It's only a workaround for those (like me) that want a partial solution
and accept the (high) risk.

As I have said in a previous comment
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-
greeter/+bug/861171/comments/13) the full solution is that where
PolicyKit will be working correctly and asking only to admin users if
they really want to halt/reboot the system.

Until that time, now you can choose.

Regards,

[Bug 775117] Re: Thunar hangs on first launch of each session

2012-08-22 Thread Carl Stephenson
lvscar came across the same solution I just found in the Arch forums:

Solving problem with slow cold start:
Some people still have problems with Thunar taking a long time to start for the
first time. This is due to gvfs checking the network and Thunar won't show up
before gvfs finishes. To change this behaviour, edit
/usr/share/gvfs/mounts/network.mount and change AutoMount=true to
AutoMount=false.

Nice to solve this, it was irritating!
