I hit this with my Thinkpad X60 as well. Neither killing compiz nor
gnome-screensaver solves it, only restarting lightdm will do. I'll have
the dstack script when this happens again so I can get the stack trace
for you.

It is rather amusing, that ubuntu prides itself as it just works
distro - yet grilo and upnp in totem work out of box in debian, and
someone decided to explicitly disable in ubuntu...

Add grilo back. UPNP and friends should just work out of box, currently
people write horrible instructions like the one below to make it happen:

volume, gnome-system-monitor adds the free space off all mountpoints,
where they in fact share the same HD space.

So the amount of free space displayed by gnome-system-monitor is several

of mounted subvols).

When using BTRFS with several mounted BTRFS subvols from the same BTRFS
volume, gnome-control-center adds the total space of all mountpoints,
where they in fact share the same HD space.

So the amount of total HD space displayed by gnome-control-center is
several time bigger than the actual value (actual value mutiplied by the
number of mounted subvols).

It is a known bug that two keys on an Apple keyboard are swapped. There is 
another bug which occurs on Swiss keyboards with an Apple model.
In Switzerland people have a period instead of a comma on their numpad.
To correct this there is a workaround with xmodmap:

keycode 91 = period period

I think this is not the best solution so I report this as a new bug.

This is still a bug in 12.04 and it will presumably remain an issue for
the foreseeable future. Has there been any indication about a potential
fix for this, or is this an architectural issue? Will this potentially
be solved by Wayland?

I would think that the rise of gaming on the Linux desktop (through the
Ubuntu Software Center, the Humble Indie Bundles, and the coming launch
of Steam for Ubuntu) would make this a bigger issue in the near future.

In my case I found it managed to mess up the label in such a way that I
was unable to correct it with any other tools (gparted, dosfslabel or
mlabel). Running `blkid` after using these tools would still report the
broken label that Palimpsest had set.

My solution was to re-partition the disk with gpated and then copy the
contents back on afterwards.

This is happening to me with an USB keyboard on an IBM ThinkPad X41. g-s-d goes 
to 100% CPU and the numlock led starts blinking in a crazy and irregular way.
The X41 BIOS has the option to keep the internal keyboard numlock separated 
from the external keyboard one selected; so only the led on the USB keyboard 
blinks. If I try to enable the internal numlock, it gets disabled as soon as 
the g-s-d disables the external one.
I don't know if this problem is related to the aforementioned BIOS setting; 
anyway I've now (temporarily?) solved this by removing the settings plugin for 
the keyboard as explained earlier in the comments.

The text string for disk failure warning doesn't break lines and forces the 
dialog to be (estimated) 1500px wide (on a 1280px screen).

All of the icons in the system settings application launch a sub-
configuration panel within the same application window to configure
whatever it is you clicked on. For instance if you click on Sound it
takes you to the Sound configuration panel within gnome-control-center.

Print Settings however opens its own application dialog window separate
from the system settings window. This is inconsistent with the rest of
the configurable sections and should be changed to work like the others.

[Bug 1043614] [NEW] Nautilus hangs on viewing .dng file properties

Nautilus hangs each time I intend to view / change the properties of a .DNG 
file (raw camera data). I right-click the preview image and choose Properties 
in the contextual menu, the program hangs / crashes immediately. Apport does 
not appear. There is no problem when viewing properties of e.g. .JPEG files or 
text files etc.
I am running Unity under Ubuntu Precise 12.04.1. Nautilus manages the desktop 
(nautilus -n). Version of package nautilus is nautilus 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu4

well. It affects not only .zip-Files from Windows, but also .zip-files

Will apologize for the comment - not really meant as written  will say
the reason it doesn't work 'smoothly' OOTB in 12.10 is  for a different
reason than I thought.

When a user first opens  RB  Edit  Prefs Music,  ~/.gstreamerr-0.10/presets 
is created without any .prs in it.
This causes the dialog about needing to install additional software which if 
clicked on for ogg will return a not found  the dialog will remain
For mp3 it will install, * again the dialog will still be there.

Only when a valid .psr is in ~/.gstreamerr-0.10/presets will the add. software 
dialog go away.
This will occur if the settings dropdown is expanded  Custom settings is 
chosen, it won't if Default or default is chosen

So maybe not a big issue because sooner or later the user will pick
Custom settings from the dropdown  a .prs will be created in the
plugins folder  the dialog will go away.

The 2 ways around if this was considered an issue would be to have
~/.gstreamerr-0.10/presets receive a .prswhen created or not have it be
created until Custom settings is chosen.

I am so sorry that we can't understand each-others, but before filing
the bug to Bugzilla, let me try and explain you the problem another
time.

First of all, we are talking about _natural_ scrolling:  if you don't
know anything that, please have a look at the following video [1]:  it
is worth a thousand words.  As you probably may know, that behavior is
not enabled by default on Ubuntu;  however, one can simply use Xmodmap
and obtain something similar:  let's see how.

Inside your Xmodmap configuration file (~user/.Xmodmap) you can map each
mouse event to other;  for example, the following is the default
configuration for the pointer:

pointer = 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12

Imagine each column being the mouse event received, and each value being
the overwritten event associated:  in this case output events are
matching input events without any transformation (i.e. left-click is a
left-click, scroll-up is scroll-up and so forth).  Let's see how to
enable _natural_ scrolling knowing that event 4 and 5 are for scroll up
and down, while 6 and 7 are for left and right scroll:

pointer = 1 2 3 5 4 7 6 8 9 10 11 12

As you can see, at the 4th column we have the 5th event and at the 5th
column we have the 4th event (same for 6th and 7th columns).  Basically
we are telling Xmodmap to generate a scroll-down event when a scroll-up
event is receved and vice-versa (and to generate a scroll-left when a
scroll-right is received).  You can try it yourself by putting that line
in the file and load it with `xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap`.

Now, if you try to scroll a gnome-terminal window, you will notice that
the _natural_ scrolling behaviour is correctly enabled.  However, the
same can not be said for Empathy windows:  it seams that the scrolling
behaviour is somehow hard-coded in the application, and it cannot be
overridden externally.

If you now have understood the issue, could please have a look at it?
