[Bug 1043651] [NEW] Package system broken

2012-08-30 Thread Malachi Ewing
Public bug reported:

The package system on my install is not working at all. I'm unable to download
applications from the software center, via tarballs, or via terminal package
install. Haven't tried synaptic, as I'm unable to download it to use it...
Obviously, I've tried sudo apt-get -f install and the dpkg configure command,
neither to any avail. This has been going on for nearly a month, and it is due
to two broken packages 'empathy-common' and 'gnome-sudoku' both of which
originally failed to update after a fresh install of ubuntu 12.04. Since then,
I've been completely unable to use the package system. I have no 3rd party
repo's enabled or anything of the sort. The following appears in terminal as
output when I attempt to download...

fuckyouryankeebluejeans@fuckyouryankeebluejeans:~$ sudo apt-get -f install
empathy-common
[sudo] password for fuckyouryankeebluejeans:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 empathy : Depends: empathy-common (= 3.4.2.1-0ubuntu1) but 3.4.2.3-0ubuntu1 is
to be installed
 gnome-sudoku : Depends: gnome-games-data (= 1:3.4.1-0ubuntu1) but
1:3.4.1-0ubuntu2.1 is to be installed
 nautilus-sendto-empathy : Depends: empathy-common (= 3.4.2.1-0ubuntu1) but
3.4.2.3-0ubuntu1 is to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a
solution).

[Bug 1035701] Re: grilo plugins should be enabled in Totem

2012-08-30 Thread Doug McMahon
Considering that Ubuntu has kept the same old gst-plugins-bad0.10 source for 3
releases now there doesn't seem much point here in adding grilo.
The broken bad plugin will cause many youtube videos not to display which may
lead to more bug reports
Maybe better suited to a ppa which could also offer a decent bad plugin patched
to fix libgstvideoparsersbad.so (h264 parser) even opus support in gstreamer

Feels like no ones home concerning the bad plugin

I got the same Problem with a second screen via a docking station.

So until now I'm getting used to the 'maximizing break' until nvidia
making this bloody driver open source or just not so bad.

[Bug 1043749] [NEW] Renaming edit box covered by selected files information

Public bug reported:

When trying to rename a file while in icons mode and when the files in

information on selected files appears and overlaps the edit box.

This prevents the user from being able to see what they are typing, and
effectively makes renaming very hard.

[Bug 1043759] [NEW] Display settings confirmation dialog appears out of the screen when disabling one monitor in a multi monitor setup

2012-08-30 Thread Ugo Riboni
Public bug reported:

I have a two monitors setup with the laptop screen and external monitor
connected via VGA. This setup is illustrated in the attached screenshot
from the display settings applet in the control center.

* Taking that setup as a starting point,
* Place the display settings window on laptop monitor (bottom display)
* Click on the off button for the laptop monitor to disable it
* Click the apply button to confirm settings

Expected result:
* Laptop monitor turns off
* Display settings window moves to the current workspace on the active monitor
* Popup dialog asking if I want to keep this configuration or revert it appears
on same workspace as above

Current result:
* Laptop monitor turns off
* Display settings window and popup dialog move to the workspace down from
the currently active one

In other words what is happening is that the windows that were in a
disabled monitor gets moved to a workspace that has the same relation to
the current one as the spatial relationship between monitors. For
example if the laptop monitor was setup as being on the right of the
external monitor, the window would be on the workspace to the right of
the active one.

This is clever, but extremely hard to guess for the user, especially if
they don't normally use workspaces in their daily ubuntu usage.

What's worse is that there's a timeout on the confirmation dialog that
will keep ticking and will automatically revert the previous
configuration when it expires, confusing the user even more.

I don't mind keeping the clever behaviour but the display settings
window should be an exception to that rule and should always appear on
the active workspace on the active monitor. Or the workspace should
switch automatically to the one where the window ends up being placed
in.

[Bug 1043769] [NEW] Monitor image not clickable in display settings after the first time

2012-08-30 Thread Ugo Riboni
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

* Have a multi monitor setup with 2 monitors
* Open the display settings applet in the control center
* Click on the monitor that is not currently selected
* Click on the monitor that was initially selected

Expected result:
* The second click should select again the clicked monitor

Actual result:
* The second click fails to select the clicked monitor, selection remains where
it is

If you focus another application and focus back to the display settings
window, then you can move the selection again for one single time, then
the bug appears again until you switch focus again.

However, if the disk is not cleanly unmounted (eg if X crashes), the
/media/rocko/disk folder persists and the new time it is auto-mounted at
/media/rocko/disk1, and then /media/rocko/disk2, etc.

This used to be a problem when disks were mounted at eg /media/disk,
then /media/disk_, then /media/disk__, but this bug was fixed a while
ago.

So the program that auto-mounts should really check if
/media/user/diskname exists and is empty as part of the mount
process.

Apologies if gnome-media is not the correct package for this bug.

[Bug 914313] Re: Pictures in tags of audio files, which act as thumbnails, are NOT shown for ALL files in same directory

2012-08-30 Thread salva
I have the same problem.
I've found the problem is on the text codification of the id3v2 tags.
When you codificate them in unicode (utf) Nautilus is no more able to show mp3
image.
I hope it will help.

[Bug 1043848] Re: gvfs-mount -u stopped working, tries to mount

2012-08-30 Thread Martin Pitt
Apparently the --help output is a bit misleading, you are not supposed
to specify a device with -d. But if you try without:

$ gvfs-mount  -u /dev/sdb1
Error finding enclosing mount: Containing mount does not exist

Both errors happen exactly the same with current git head, so regardless
of whether or not -d should be used, something is wrong.

A variant that does work:

 $ gvfs-mount  -u file:///media/martin/4805-C45B

so apparently gvfs-mount does not support unmounting by device file,
only by URI.

[Bug 1043908] [NEW] Only first terminal is the right size

2012-08-30 Thread Stephen Baynes
Public bug reported:

The first time after I log in the Gnome terminal comes up 80by24. From
then on any new terminals are 80by22.

This applies both if I use the default default size or if I set a custom

I would expect all terminals to start the same size 80by24.

Note using Gnome Classic (no effects) window manager.

[Bug 997630] Re: evince and eog broken on remote sessions (X, NX, x2go and VNC)

2012-08-30 Thread Adam Conrad
Hello Emanuele, or anyone else affected,

Accepted geis into precise-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/geis/2.2.9.1-0ubuntu1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1044057] [NEW] empathy no longer allows for extended jabber configuration

2012-08-30 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Public bug reported:

I have been using Empathy for a longtime, primarily for Jabber to a
private network. Recent updates in 12.10 imported my previous settings
ok, but I am no longer able to edit those settings because when I click
Empathy/Accounts from the global menu, I get the Online Accounts setup,
and it doesn't seem to know about my previous setup. Furthermore, if I
try to add a jabber account, the account setup is far too limited with
only a jabber id and password presented, which prevents me from using
empathy with the aforementioned private network.

[Bug 1044116] [NEW] Restart and shutdown reverts to login due to authorization

2012-08-30 Thread Robert Steckroth
Public bug reported:

The OS will go to the login area almost every time I shutdown or restart
my computer with the notification menu. This also happens if a
CTL+ALT+DEL sequence is used to shutdown. I checked the logs and found
this error relating to the problem. This problem will occur if all
applications are properly shutdown or not. Note: I only have one active
account other than the default guest account. Also, this will happen
again if I login in and try to restart or shutdown immediately
afterwards.
