[Bug 1047588] Re: Shotwell spawning oauth2callback to mardy.it

2012-09-09 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Hi all, and sorry for the mess!
This bug is caused by a change in the online-accounts-signon-ui, which is now
more strict about the URLs it handles; in particular, all non-https URLs (such
as http://www.mardy.it/oauth2callback;) are opened in the default browser.
At the same time, we updated the account plugins (source package is
online-accounts-account-plugins) not to use that URL; however, all Online
Accounts which you might have already created are not automatically updated to
use the new settings.

The bug for tracking this is bug 1047191.

*SHORT TERM SOLUTION*

Delete all your accounts from Online Accounts (which is found in the System
Settings), and re-create them. Don't worry, this won't cause any data loss.
Sorry again for the inconvenience!

** Summary changed:

- Shotwell spawning oauth2callback to mardy.it
+ Account authentication spawning oauth2callback to mardy.it

** Package changed: shotwell (Ubuntu) = online-accounts-account-plugins

[Bug 987220] Re: System does not power off reliably when Shut Down chosen from GUI

2012-09-09 Thread Gustav Andersson
I have the same bug, Ubuntu 12.04 running MacBook Pro Retina, installed
NVidia drivers (specifically CUDA 5 driver). This is my experience:

first a general observations: I have another bug which may be related to
this one: ctrl alt f1 only gives me black screen (but ctrl alt f7 gets
me back)

1. booting in 'text acpi=force' mode (instead of 'quiet splash'):
shutdown works correctly (-h -r -P all works)

2. booting in 'text' mode without acpi=force
shutdown doesn't power off the computer

2. booting 'quiet splash acpi=force'
shutdown doesn't power off the computer

[Bug 1048167] [NEW] brasero does not eject disk after burning

2012-09-09 Thread Stefan Pappalardo
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
Release:12.04
brasero:
  Installiert: 3.4.1-0ubuntu1
  Kandidat:3.4.1-0ubuntu1
  Versionstabelle:
 *** 3.4.1-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

When burning a disc (audio, data, or from iso-image) I always check the 'eject
after burn' option, but it never does eject.
I have to use the button on the drive to get my new disc out. The discs
themselves are OK.

In detail:
After successfully burning a CD, brasero asked to please eject the CD
yourself (or similar, I've it in german language). So I eject it. And the
dialog doesn't disappear and the only option available remains the Cancel
button. It should be OK, to acknowledge that I've ejected the CD. I hesitated
and didn't know exactly what it would cancel…

Please see also bugs #474233 and #549184.

It's a quite old issue. But it still remains :-(

Please reopen #474233 and fix the issue for LTS Ubuntu 12.04.

Thank you

[Bug 987220] Re: System does not power off reliably when Shut Down chosen from GUI

2012-09-09 Thread Gustav Andersson
I was able to get shutdown to work correctly by booting with
'nomodeset'. It turns out I do not need acpi=force so this is all I need
in /etc/default/grub

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash noapic nomodeset

and it works. (I still have the ctrl alt F1 problem though)

[Bug 838792] Re: Restart logs out, even when there are no other people logged in

2012-09-09 Thread filip.
Hello,

I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on my IBM T60p laptop and clicking on
shutdown logs me out only and doesn't shutdown at all. Command
codesudo shutdown -h now /code works fine. What can I do?

I see a lot of suggestions here and at Askubuntu but I don't see clearly if it
is for my case. This site send me here
http://askubuntu.com/questions/96681/ubuntu-doesnt-seem-to-shut-down-unless-i-force-kill-it-suggestions?rq=1
It said that the bug is closed, but I don't see the approved solution here.
I'm not used to read bug logs though.

Is it connected to my video driver? I read that mentioned few times in
forums.

[Bug 415023] Re: brightness is broken on MSI WIND U100

Hi,
I've an athec lug netbook (a MSI clone) and also have the blinking brightness
problem after upgrade my Ubuntu 10.04 LTS to 12.04 LTS.
Here you have a workaround that is working fine for me:

sudo chmod u-w /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness

And then I can adjust the brightness by keyborad (Fn+...)

[Bug 994486] Re: global alt-f1 shortcut resets after system restart

2012-09-09 Thread Nikolaus Waxweiler
The same happens when I assign global keys to the media functions play
and next/previous track. I respectively use Super+C, Super+. and
Super+, for that, those are unassigned by default I think. It works
when I set them, but on the next start, they do nothing until I apply
them again in the settings. So this may really be a bug.

[Bug 1048024] Re: nothing from Empathy shows up in irc search in Software Center

2012-09-09 Thread Greg Price
I am searching Ubuntu Software Center for the search query irc (three
letters, no quotes.) A user who is looking for a way to use IRC is
likely to try that search, and Empathy plus account-plugin-irc is a good
answer for them, perhaps the best answer for them. Therefore that answer
should show up in that search -- either in the form of the empathy
package itself or the account-plugin-irc package. Neither package does.

I filed this bug against empathy because empathy's and account-plugin-
irc's package metadata control how they are found in Software Center.
(Both come from the empathy source package.)

No I cannot, at least not intentionally. It happened one other time
shortly after Like I mentioned my system was idol while I was pre
occupied with other things.

It looks like there was an update to glib2 since then (which may or may
not had anything to do with it) and that has not happened since. I do
check for updates every breakfast lunch and dinner. Always up to date
:)

However since then I have had other authorization issues affecting
empathy and the desktop as I described in this report I just filed

The solution described in
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=636216 -- dragging the small
black top bar -- is absolutely not obvious to me.

I just want to add that you can change the primary display programmatically
(and driver-independent) using xrandr:
$ xrandr --output VGA1 --primary

[Bug 976624] Re: Add support for keywords

2012-09-09 Thread madbiologist
I have tested totem 3.0.1-0ubuntu21.1 from precise-proposed and can
confirm it fixes this bug. Typing movie, film or DVD in the dash
will all find totem now.

I have also tested playback of several MP3, MP4, FLV and WMV files and
found no regressions.

[Bug 870035] Re: Double-clicking on Language Support icon in System Settings launches two identical instances of the Language Support window

2012-09-09 Thread Otus
The same is true with other icons that launch external windows, like
Printing and Additional Drivers. I'm updating the title and description
to match.

(I think the real bug is that the icons work on single click, but look
like files/folders in Nautilus, which by default require a double
click.)

2012-09-09 Thread Logan Rosen
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 796076] Re: When run as root [gksudo gedit whatever] gedit tries to open a 2nd 'untitled document 1'

2012-09-09 Thread h1repp
its pretty queer:

when doing a sudo su, and then as root gedit anyfile , no second
untitled document 1 is opened. but when using gksu/gksudu it is; in
the latter case ps shows that the command line that started gedit was
exactly this gedit anyfile.

this additional untitled document 1 always has the changed mark
(leading asterisk) but: nothing has happened to it, undo is inactive,
and it has no contents: when saved it has zero bytes.

tried to find out what gksu really did by strace -f gksu gedit /etc/fstab and
found it does:
 execve(/usr/bin/sudo, [/usr/bin/sudo, -H, -S, -p, GNOME_SUDO_PASS,
-u, root, --, gedit, /etc/fstab], [/* 38 vars */]) = 0
more readable:
/usr/bin/sudo -H -S -p GNOME_SUDO_PASS -u root -- gedit /etc/fstab
which means: set home to /root, read password from stdin, and prompt with
GNOME_SUDO_PASS (triggers gksu to output the pass phrase)
when I issue this very command in a xterm and enter my password after the
prompt gedit opens without this dummy untitled document, but with exactly the
same execve call it does? I have no clue ...

so summarizing:
- not caused by wrong setting in root's account
- not caused by wrong command from gksu
- caused by a different handling of the execve system call in contrast to the
shell?

this is on a newly set up maya mint system, but running gnome-classic
from precise repositories

btw: regarding the #23 desktop file:
grep Exec /usr/share/applications/gedit.desktop -
Exec=gedit %U
Exec=gedit --new-window
Exec=gedit --new-window

If you have a user logged in and you try to shutdown or restart as

[Bug 1048421] [NEW] empathy: Error contacting the Account Manager

2012-09-09 Thread Chascon
Public bug reported:

Problem:
I've got accounts setup properly, facebook IM and gmail. I know they work
because I access the accounts with other IM clients using the same credentials.

Details:
Upon starting empathy I get the following message twice:
There was an error while trying to connect to the Telepathy Account Manager.
The error was:
Process /usr/lib/telepathy/mission-control-5 exited with status 1

The message on the roster says: You need to setup an account to see
contacts here.

Observation
I check to see my accounts and they are most certainly there and configured.
Apparently, there is a matter of dispute whether I have accounts configured or
have them at all.

Public bug reported:

I was wondering why some of my log lines did not contain a final closing

file in either the default or a specific viewer fails.

For example, I have photos in a directory whose full path is
/media/abentley/ED1T/Pictures/2012/Trisha's 40th birthday. Attempting
to launch the file by double-clicking launches Gnome Image Viewer, which
errors with The given locations contain no images.

Launching the file in Firefox attempts to load the URL
file:///media/abentley/ED1T/Pictures/2012/Trisha%27s.

Launching the file in Chromium attempts to load the URL
file:///media/abentley/ED1T/Pictures/2012/Trisha's
