[Bug 1012277] Re: Closing laptop lid should not blank external monitor

2012-09-19 Thread Matthias Laumer
Same here with Fujitsu AH530 and Samsung TV (connected via HDMI).
Confusing point: I also installed XBMC ,which should be shared with twin-view
option (xrandr .--same as LVDS1).
When I´m using XBMC in full-screen mode, it is working well !! The Samsung TV
is blanking for ~2sec. when the laptop-lid is closed but then it starts again
and works correctelly.
I´m using XBMC only in application form, not in stand alone mode.

Maybe this information would be helbful for someone.

[Bug 1051952] Re: Nautilus and Thunar freeze system when trashing files in kerberized, NFS mounted homes

2012-09-19 Thread Jan Sanders
The following will trigger the behaviour, so the common cause seems to
be libgio:

#include gio/gio.h
#include stdio.h

int main(int argc, char **argv)
{  char *path;
   GFile *file;

   g_type_init();

   if(argc != 2) exit(1);

   path=argv[1];

   printf(Moving %s to trash...\n, path);

   file = g_file_new_for_path(path);

   /* The following call hangs for about one minute
  if path points to NFSv4 mounted volumes with
  Kerberos, then succeeds. */

   if (g_file_trash(file, NULL, NULL))
 printf(true\n);
   else
 printf(false\n);
}

** Also affects: glib2.0 (Ubuntu)

- Nautilus and Thunar freeze system when trashing files in kerberized, NFS

14:18:45 larsu | didrocks, I asked mkasik's opinion about the attached
patch, but he hasn't answered yet
14:18:53 larsu | (he's the one doing printing in gtk)

14:19:17 didrocks | larsu: ah, should we try it in quantal? or can you try to
ping him again?
14:19:33 larsu | didrocks, I think the patch is not good enough for
upstream, but it will do the job for a cycle if we don't get a
   | real fix soon

14:19:59 larsu | the patch almost certainly works, it's just not doing the
right thing
14:20:00 didrocks | larsu: maybe not beta2 though? should we just fiddle it in
after it? (so that easier to revert)
14:20:10 larsu | yeah let's do that

2012-09-19 Thread Matthias Klose
Martin, the reassignment is incorrect. There's no tk function showing
up.

pydoc probably shouldn't blindly import any module, but by doing so it
crashes somewhere in the pygobject extension modules. maybe mark it as
invalid for pygobject. I don't want to track this down either.

[Bug 969359] Re: [keyboard]: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu (and blinking numlock)

2012-09-19 Thread Brian Taber
I wanted to comment (again) this bug is still happening, I have been
unable to catch when it starts, but will usually happen over night when
the system is under very heavy load, CPU or GPU. The load levels I am
talking about is a normally very responsive system will take 2-5 seconds
(if not more) to open the unity menu/switching applications, etc, and
the load level is high throughout the night. Of course still does not
happen every time, but that is the most consistent condition I have
observed when the problem happens.

[Bug 459851] Re: can't use CTRL + C for copy'n' ctrl + v for paste

2012-09-19 Thread Lucian Pestritu
I can confirm it in Ubuntu 12.04 (up-to-date):
apt-cache policy empathy
empathy:
  Installed: 3.4.2.3-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 3.4.2.3-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 3.4.2.3-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 3.4.1-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages

When I highlight text from a past message (either sent or received) Ctrl+C is
not working. The bug is reproducible in all themes.
Both Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V combinations are working in the edit area.
Right-click an selecting Copy does work, but it's a painful process.

Empathy is great, but I find this issue very annoying and a major
usability problem.

Please fix it. Thank you!

[Bug 969359] Re: [keyboard]: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu (and blinking numlock)

2012-09-19 Thread Anderson Luiz Alves
i saw numlock turning on/off by it self many times,
one way i can always reproduce this bug is:
1. enable remote desktop sharing (vino)
2. connect to this computer remotely with vnc
3. remotely enable/disable numlock multiple times
4. remotely type some number with numpad keys
5. remotely enable/disable numlock multiple times
numlock starts turn on/off by it self...

[Bug 459851] Re: can't use CTRL + C for copy'n' ctrl + v for paste

2012-09-19 Thread Tony Pursell
What *does* work is this:

- Highlight text from a past message

- Move to message box

- Press middle button (scroll wheel on most modern mice)

I don't know what this behaviour depends on, but it is the alternative
method of Copy and Paste in Ubuntu.

[Bug 819842] Re: Commands in the background are terminated after closing the terminal

2012-09-19 Thread Daniel Hartwig
Comment #1 is correct. This is the intended behaviour of the system.

When you start a process it is always as a child of another, usually
some session. Graphically, you log in to a desktop session. When you
start gnome-terminal you are beginning a separate shell session and any
programs started in that terminal belong to the shell session [1].
There are good reasons for this design.

Any program can be started in the desktop session, without needing a
menu entry. For example, GNOME provides the run program dialog (ALT-F2)
for this purpose. If you desire a program to last for the duration of
the desktop session, start it using the run dialog and *not* from gnome-
terminal.

[1] Some programs apparently take measures to escape from the shell
session so that they appear to run in the desktop-session. These are
exceptional and should not be considered the norm. If you start a
program from a shell session you should expect that it will remain under
the control of that shell.

[Bug 819842] Re: Commands in the background are terminated after closing the terminal

2012-09-19 Thread Daniel Hartwig
 The same problem appears in LXTerminal too. Maybe a
 shared component is affected by this problem.

FYI the shared component in this case is the shell (usually
/usr/bin/bash or similar) which is run by these terminal programs.

Processes started by a shell are (typically) terminated when that shell
exits.  That is by design.
