[Bug 1057324] [NEW] gnome-sound-recorder MP4 encoding works only for root user

2012-09-27 Thread BlessedGeek
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.04
Intel i7-2630QM

When I use Sound Recorder as a non-root user to record in MP4, the saved file
cannot be played back. Not even by the root user.
The error message is:
This file contains no playable streams.

However I am able to record in MP4 if I run as root:
sudo gnome-sound-recorder

I do not face this problem as a non-root user when I choose an encoding
other than MP4.

** Affects: gnome-media (Ubuntu)

[Bug 951827] Re: Power Statistics window blank

2012-09-27 Thread Hsin-Yi, Chen (hychen)
[Summary]

Patch: https://code.launchpad.net/~ossug-hychen/ubuntu/precise/gnome-
power-manager/fix-951827

bzr branch: lp:~ossug-hychen/ubuntu/precise/gnome-power-
manager/fix-951827

[IMPACT]

 * To precise users, their Power Statistics often gets completely
blank. No buttons, no information, nothing! It doesn't fix itself by closing
the window and reopen it.

[TESTCASE]

 1. open power statics window from power indicator
 2. close and reopen power statics window several times
 3. after step2, the power statics window displays information correctly

[Regression Potential]

 * the patch is from upstream git repository and already include in
quntal gnome-power-manager package, so the risk should be low.

[Bug 1034090] Re: Hotkeys not functional after upgrade to quantal

2012-09-27 Thread Aaron Johnson
Can this fix somehow make its way into the Q-series backports ppa for
Precise?

This bug will crop up on you if you install xserver-xorg-lts-quantal. I
was able to fix the issue by rebuilding gnome-settings-
daemon-3.4.2-0ubuntu0.4 on 12.04 with the patch that is posted on this
bug but it would make more sense for there to be an already patched
version of gnome-settings-daemon in the Q-series backports ppa that
would automatically get installed if you choose to install the quantal
xserver backport.

   server dict.org
   server dict0.us.dict.org
   server alt0.dict.org
No definitions found for bat

But if I run this, it works:

$ dict -h dict.org bat
12 definitions found
...

When dict fails to get a response from localhost, it stops, but
according to the man page it is supposed to continue through the list of
servers until it finds one that works. I have to comment out
localhost in /etc/dictd/dict.conf, and then it works without
specifying -h.

[Bug 974963] Re: [soundnua]: hdmi audio missing in sound settings

2012-09-27 Thread Peter Willett
Hi David

Thank you for responding quickly.

No I don't recall unplugging it after 90 seconds. And, I know the HDMI
cable is good because I swapped it when I first found the fault, and
looking at dmesg I could see something about HDMI pin3.

I use this machine with Mythbuntu and the machine comes on at a set time
from the bios rtc. The TV is switched on later. I have noticed that if I
power the PC after switching on the TV then I do have sound (this is my
perception and I need to record if this is 100% true on all occasions).

I am not sure what you mean about seeing it in sound settings. In
Mythbutu this is Frontend/Setup/Audio and can only be seen after it has
booted. I think that, in the past, when I have looked at it, it had a
comment Not Connected, but looking today this is not there. In the
past I have tried changing drivers back to others and back to the HDMI
one without getting sound. Unplugging and replugging seems the only
thing I can do if I don't want to reboot the system

Below is a test results from the kernel log that I have just done. I
booted up with the TV off and got no sound. I then unplugged and plugged
back in the HDMI cable and got sound. I can see that the lack of sound
may be due to the fglrx (Radeon) drivers? And that the unplug/Replug in
event caused something to happen which got me sound.

As a tempory fix, is there a bash script that I could run that will
reinitiate the driver in the same way that an unplug and replug in does?
If so, I can add a Sound Button to the MythTV front end that calls up
this script and I am fine. At least it will keep my wife happy.

Thank you for your endevours so far.

Peter

Public bug reported:

I was trying to create an image sprite by embedding a base64 encoded PNG
image into an SVG file. I then applied a greyscale filter over that
image. When I view the SVG in a browser the contents render correctly.
When I use rsvg-convert to create a PNG image the filter is not applied,
or in another test case, the filter gets renderd as a block box.

In the sample file below I have created two cases.

Case 1: A greyscale filter is applied to an image element.

Case 2: A filter containing both an feImage and feColorMatrix is applied
to a rectangle.

Using rsvg-convert, in Case 1 the filter is not applied to the output.
In Case 2 the output is rendered as a black box.

rsvg-convert version 2.36.1
from : http://code.google.com/p/osspack32/
Windows 7 64-bit

Also as a test, when I try to load my test file in Inkscape it causes it
to crash. However, when I remove my filter for Case 2, Inkscape will now
load the file and render it correctly. But, like with rsvg-convert, when
I try to save the file as a PNG, it fails to apply the filter.

[Bug 974963] Re: [soundnua]: hdmi audio missing in sound settings

2012-09-27 Thread David Henningsson
I am not sure what you mean about seeing it in sound settings. In
Mythbutu this is Frontend/Setup/Audio

I mean, in the Gnome control center. Unless Mythbuntu is running Gnome,
you're likely suffering from something different compared to the
original bug reporter.

Anyway; when you plug your cable in, or possibly when you activate the
HDMI screen, you should get Diwic: read_pin_sense for pin 0x3, result =
0x and when you unplug it, you should get Diwic:
read_pin_sense for pin 0x3, result = 0x7fff. Note the difference
(0x7 unplugged, 0xf plugged). The question is if you or mythbuntu does
something when this comes up in dmesg, or if it just happens
spontaneously?

[Bug 1057451] Re: Render error converting SVG to PNG using filter

2012-09-27 Thread Mike
I discovered my issue. I was using single quotes in the URL when I
reference the filter. While this does validate it is not correct and
appears to be the source of the problem. Using a non-quoted url in the
attrbiute causes it to behave correctly. Please close this defect.

duplicate? You'll have more debugging info on package versions, etc. and
I can re-attach the screenshots.

I'm attaching screenshots to this one in the meantime.

[Bug 1057523] [NEW] File-Roller + 7z doesn't split a file into parts greater than 2.1GB

2012-09-27 Thread MaLa
Public bug reported:

1) I want to split an ISO image into 2 or 3 parts of 4GB.
2) I can split a file with File-Roller and 7z and I can decide the size of each
parts
3) I start the compression and splitting and I see that the size of each parts
isn't the same size that I have decide before. It is 2.1GB.
4) If I execute the 7z command on the terminal this problem doesn't exist.

Can someone resolve it?

Thank you so much!

Marco

[Bug 775117] Re: Thunar hangs on first launch of each session

2012-09-27 Thread Kevin Keijzer
This is still present in 12.10 and still has to be fixed quickly in my
opinion. Modifying /usr/share/gvfs/mounts/network.mount has three clear
downsides; it has to be done on every machine after every clean install
(so basically twice a year on all your computers); it puts an ugly
broken-file icon with the text network:// in the side pane (which
simply looks amateuristic), and local changes are overwritten on every
update of gvfs-backends. Nautilus, on the other hand, works fine without
modifying any file. Why can't Thunar act the way Nautilus does? Clicking
the network icon in Nautilus will render the short delay; not the
initial startup.

Can you help me to debug what can be wrong here?

[Bug 1055766] Re: grep -R doesn't automatically search amazon

2012-09-27 Thread Stuart Prescott
It would be shortsighted to do this only for grep.

A better approach would be to set PROMPT_COMMAND for the shell in
/etc/bash.bashrc to an appropriate shell function. The last command
executed is available as `history 1` in that handler:

--- bash.bashrc.orig2012-09-27 16:52:30.452001532 +0100
+++ bash.bashrc 2012-09-27 16:54:24.312515801 +0100
@@ -53,3 +53,6 @@
fi
}
 fi
+
+PROMPT_COMMAND='/usr/lib/ubuntu-amazon/prompthandler $(history 1)'
+

The handler can then work out what sort of output the user really wanted
to see in their shell based on the command given and also the arguments.
Commands like nslookup, dig and hosts could offer registration
deals from GoDaddy. Commands like passwd could offer to sell the user
books on managing security policies. Commands like vlc, mplayer
could could sell videos and music.

Communicating the command and arguments to an external server would
presumably be necessary, but I can't imagine anyone objecting to that.

[Bug 1050063] Re: gnome-sudoku ERROR:root:Could not find any typelib for LaunchpadIntegration

2012-09-27 Thread Anthony Harrington
bumping

I was going to make a proper merge request out of my patch above but i had some
trouble compiling gnome-games properly even without any launchpad-integration
stuff.
I think my patch looks alright though - i know the code i'm suggesting to add
to gnome-sudoku solves the problem and the change to the LPI patch which
precise uses adds my changed code in place of what was causing the crashing. In
theory, it should solve the problem nicely.

[Bug 1057688] [NEW] exorbitant memory usage

2012-09-27 Thread ubunue
Public bug reported:

Hello, I want to thank you for this problem and notificaros:

I have noticed for a while strange behavior and unnecessary memory usage
on Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty) Desktop amd64, Gnome and Unity, exorbitant
memory usage with peaks over 1gb and 400 to 900 mb consumption rising
gradually to reach this amount of use in which the 400mb reset until
immediately afterwards to go back up again little by little, so
consecutively.Y it shows that the system slows down.It happens even at
rest the team.

I can confirm that it is not, an error of level graphics hardware or
both AMD / ATI both nvidia. So either driver is not to blame.

I think there are more people affected by the same cause, people whom I
have facilitated this same distribution Ubuntu, is appreciated, the
attempt to settle it and is very important for the proper functioning.

Best wishes

[Bug 1057767] [NEW] Translations are not in sync with Gnome, leading to duplication of effort

2012-09-27 Thread Pierre Slamich
Public bug reported:

French for instance is fully translated upstream and has 500+ strings remaining
in Ubuntu
http://l10n.gnome.org/vertimus/evolution/gnome-3-6/po/fr

Wondering whether it might affect other GNOME packages and even other kind of
packages.
Despite our best effort to educate about duplication and upstream contribution,
people are redoing the work on LP, so a proper and frequent sync is essential
(now and for the next cycle)

[Bug 937822] Re: [precise] F10 always opens the menu, cannot be overriden (after xkeyboard-config update)

2012-09-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package xkeyboard-config - 2.5-1ubuntu7

---
xkeyboard-config (2.5-1ubuntu7) quantal; urgency=low

  * Add patch 114_shift_f10.patch. Don't let Ctrl+Alt consume Shift, else
it causes Shift-F10 to be treated as F10. This can result in popup
menus opening when they shouldn't.
