[Bug 969359] Re: [keyboard]: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu (and blinking numlock)

2012-10-09 Thread Brandon Lockaby
Updated from 10.04 tonight. After a few hours of use, noticed numlock
turning off and on as if my keyboard was shorting. Confirmed gnome-
settings-daemon consuming 150% cpu. I had been using Chrome,
Calculator, and Image Viewer. Killing gnome-settings-daemon returned
normal use of numlock, but it respawned and still consumes 150% cpu.

Re: Fwd: [Bug 1057767] [NEW] Translations are not in sync with Gnome, leading to duplication of effort

2012-10-09 Thread David Planella
Al 28/09/12 19:53, En/na Pierre Slamich ha escrit:
Sorry to keep raising questions like this on the list, but I didn't
manage to assign the bug to Ubuntu-translators.
To sum up what's below, Evolution translations are not in sync with
Gnome, leading to duplication of effort.

 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1057767

Is it working as intended or is there something going wrong ?

Hi Pierre,

Sorry for the delay in replying, I just found some time to look into
this issue.

Evolution is set to use bzr imports from the upstream GNOME branch. This
way, the PO files are imported directly from bzr and shared with Ubuntu,
which makes (in theory) new translations be imported daily.

However, there seems to be something wrong with the upstream bzr import,
as it's creating 3 versioned translatable templates, which means
translations from the branch are not imported.

For now, I've disabled upstream sharing for the evolution template, and
translations should be imported using the traditional package upload
mechanism.

Cheers,
David.

 Public bug reported:

French for instance is fully translated upstream and has 500+ strings
 remaining in Ubuntu
 http://l10n.gnome.org/vertimus/evolution/gnome-3-6/po/fr

Wondering whether it might affect other GNOME packages and even other
 kind of packages.
Despite our best effort to educate about duplication and upstream
contribution, people are redoing the work on LP, so a proper and
frequent sync is essential (now and for the next cycle)

[Bug 1057767] Re: Translations are not in sync with Gnome, leading to duplication of effort

2012-10-09 Thread David Planella
Looking at it in more detail, it seems that there is not much we can do
with Evolution, other than disabling upstream message sharing and going
back to the traditional way of importing translations with package
uploads. This is due to the upstream template name being versioned [1].

However, there might be a bug in the Orca import [2], which shows an
invalid template name.

2012-10-09 Thread madbiologist
Official support for Gutsy has ended. If this is still occurring in
Ubuntu 12.04 please open a new bug.

Also note that if it is still ocurring on Ubuntu 12.04 it might be fixed
upstream in the newly released cairo 1.12.4, as per
http://www.cairographics.org/news/cairo-1.12.4/ and
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50852

[Bug 1063170] Re: Not translatable string Purchased from Ubuntu One in Rhythmbox

2012-10-09 Thread David Planella
After a chat with the Ubuntu One guys, here's the situation:

- The name shown in Rhythmbox (Purchased from Ubuntu One) comes from the name
of the folder in the file system
- Changing the name of the Purchased from Ubuntu One folder (i.e. making it
translatable) might then break sync with systems with a different locale
- Simply making the string translatable in Rhythmbox would mean modifying the
Rhythmbox code to allow translatable names for monitored folders.

I don't believe either lightdm or kdm try to kill themselves when

As implemented, this feature was broken anyway as gdm doesn't always run
on :0 so personally, I've had my X session killed when uninstalling gdm
sometimes.

[Bug 1064345] [NEW] Inconsistent behavior for some keyboard shortcuts: user is able to bind them, but pressing them does nothing

2012-10-09 Thread Andrei Dziahel
Public bug reported:

Repro:

1. Set 'Launch media player' shortcut to SuperXF86Play (media key with Play
icon on it) (either with GUI, either with `gsettings set
org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys media 'SuperXF86AudioPlay'`)
2. Press just assigned shortcut key.

What happens: nothing.
What is expected: default media player is launched.

This affects shortcuts like'SuperXF86Back' and 'SuperXF86Forward'
as well.

[Bug 1064377] [NEW] Add Microsoft Cabinet archive filetype (application/vnd.ms-cab-compressed) to MimeType field of file-roller.desktop.in and add p7zip-full to Suggests or Recommends

2012-10-09 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
Public bug reported:

Currently (in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and 12.10) File-Roller isn't associated
with Microsoft Cabinet archive filetype (application/vnd.ms-cab-
compressed) and users doesn't know how to open CAB archives in Ubuntu
:(, see for example this question: http://askubuntu.com/questions/5273
/how-do-you-view-the-contents-of-a-cab-file

Please add Microsoft Cabinet archive filetype (application/vnd.ms-cab-
compressed) to MimeType field of data/file-roller.desktop.in (or file-
roller.desktop.in.in - I don't know which one should be patched) file
and add p7zip-full to Suggests or Recommends (p7zip-full package is
installed by file-roller automatically, when I tried to open .cab file
with File-Roller).

I'm attaching a patch, which adds application/vnd.ms-cab-compressed) to
MimeType field of file-roller.desktop

Btw, It seems Ubuntu developers forgot to add p7zip package to Suggests
- Debian package depends on p7zip, but Ubuntu developers removed this
dependency and forgot to add p7zip to Suggests :(

[Bug 972554] Re: [soundnua]: new capplet does not expose the sound card profile selection

2012-10-09 Thread Simon Déziel
@David, not having the Off profile is not a problem, especially if you
are saying that is temporary. The problem is I cannot select profiles
with more than 2 channels yet I require 4.0 for my card to work
properly on my setup.

Right now, on my fully up to date 12.04 setup, the Gnome applet is only
showing me 2 output profiles, one digital stereo and one analog stereo
but the cards has ~8 profiles accessible in pavucontrol. My card may
be a bit funky but it need an analog *or* digital 4.0 profile to output
on the optical S/PDIF.

[Bug 1062007] Re: evolution-calendar-factory crashed with SIGSEGV in g_hash_table_lookup_node()

2012-10-09 Thread John Belton
I have had this report on two Ubuntu 12.10 Beta2 installations, ( both under
Wubi installs ) but in neither case could I get the access to add comments when
reporting. It occured when running Software Updater, it appeared to update
correctly but failed to reboot when it indicated, stalling both machines with
the Ubuntu logo and no access from the keyboard as if the machines froze before
the reboot signal was sent to the hardware. This happened on a Dell laptop
running a Wubi installed version in Windows Vista and on a Dell Desktop running
a Wubi installed version in Windows XP.
I can only go by the date info as this was confirmed in an email and was the
only fail reported by me this week as I couldn't access the report when it was
sent.
I also note in those installations the Launchpad access keeps offering to
install some easy access software but does nothing when I click on the button.
John

[Bug 972554] Re: [soundnua]: new capplet does not expose the sound card profile selection

2012-10-09 Thread David Henningsson
@Simon, I have taken a deeper look at the pactl list you submitted in
comment #28 and just realized the problem is more complex than expected.

I thought the problem was related to not being able to select the right
combination of input and output, that the output was changed when you changed
input and vice versa.
In your case, you don't have any output ports at all for the profile you want
to select. Fixing that would require some more work, and I'll try to fix that
if/when I get around to digging deep into that code again. So; I'm marking it
as Triaged for now.

[Bug 972554] Re: [soundnua]: new capplet does not expose all profiles (Emu 0404 USB)

2012-10-09 Thread Simon Déziel
Sorry for not being very clear in the first place. So just to recap, all
I'm after is selecting the right *output* profile which is a 4.0 one
in my case. I'm only using the card to output sound so I haven't look at
the input situation. Thanks for your help so far!

Re: [Bug 388547] Re: Volume keys don't work inside a full-screen game

2012-10-09 Thread Leonardo Torok
I believe we should have some global shortcut, like Ctrl + Alt + Del on
Windows, that calls a task manager to allow the user to kill the
problematic process.

2012/10/8 Matt Pharoah 388...@bugs.launchpad.net

This is extremely annoying when a fullscreen application crashes. Your
average user who doesn't know about the Ctrl+Alt+PrntScrn+K and
Ctrl+Alt+F1 tricks will assume that the operating system crashed which
is about the most significant usability issue you could possibly have.

And even for the experienced user, you either have to
Ctrl+Alt+PrntScrn+K back to the login screen and have all your
applications terminate, or you have to go to a fullscreen shell,
terminate the process, exit the shell, and return to X. All just because
some user application entered an infinite loop. Bad, bad, bad design.

[Bug 1064453] [NEW] Corrupt keyboard layout chart

2012-10-09 Thread Mat
Public bug reported:

On a system configured with Arabic system locale (right to left layout)
and with both English (UK) and Arabic keyboards available the keyboard
layout shown by the 'Show Layout Chart' menu item appears corrupt due to
some of the four characters on each key being overlaid on each other.
What seems to be happening is that under the Arabic locale, the two
characters which would normally be displayed at the left and right of
each key are instead both placed on the right of the key.

An English (US) keyboard layout does not exhibit this behaviour.

No, I'm afraid I haven't.

There has been some talk in the #ubuntu-desktop IRC channel; this is from
yesterday:
http://people.ubuntu.com/~gunnarhj/jbicha-gunnarhj-gnome-disc-121008.txt

So at this point I can't even tell if it's going to make it into

I noticed that you changed the status of the Baltix task to In Progress. Does
it mean that this kind of change needs to be fixed separately in Baltix? Just
asking since I don't know much about the Baltix distribution.

closing a leak does not always mean inserting a plug, sometimes it just
means lessening the leak to a trickle, one that you can afford to pay for.
In this case, a trickle will do for now.

Probably we could workaround this problem in unity-panel service, by
closing a menu when a such request has been done by UPower, however this
