Public bug reported: When you first start Rhythmbox, you will see the volume slider set to minimum. [Bug 959084] Re: empathy-chat consistently uses 9-10 % CPU
I did some testing and this bug only appears when using Ubuntu's adium theme so it's either a theme bug (like some js infinite loop or something) or a webkit-gtk one. I can reproduce this bug on F17 as well. I won't have time to investigate this issue further but the next step could do to try some profiling using Webkit's inspector tool: - gsettings set org.gnome.Empathy.conversation enable-webkit-developer-tools true - Open a chat with the adium theme - Right click and select 'Inspect Element' It would be cool if some webkit(-gtk) could take a look on this issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/959084 Title: empathy-chat consistently uses 9-10 % CPU To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/adium-theme-ubuntu/+bug/959084/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 875002] Re: choosing quit from unity launcher doesn't close rhythmbox if music is playing
Please do NOT introduce preferences or plugins or whatnot for just plain wrong behaviour. This has to be fixed, because it is a bug and that's all. If Rhythmbox gets a preference for this kind of behaviour, then every program should have one. Or why shouldn't they? Either make RB behave like the other programs or make the other programs behave like RB. Right now on Ubuntu there is this weird mix between OS X-like application-based behaviour where closing the app's window does not end the program and the Windows-like window-based opposite. Please, read this article by Joel Spolsky about introducing preferences, which fits in here perfectly: http://www.joelonsoftware.com/uibook/chapters/fog59.html -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/875002 Title: choosing quit from unity launcher doesn't close rhythmbox if music is playing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/875002/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 875002] Re: choosing quit from unity launcher doesn't close rhythmbox if music is playing
Chris, are you sure bug #694860 is a duplicate? As mentioned by Sebastien there, that one has roots in a spec [1] (A compliant player should also keep playing if you close its window while it is playing) whereas this one is just incorrect behavior (selecting 'Quit' doesn't actually quit). FWIF, I don't agree with the spec and agree with Michael above: RB as all music players should just behave like other apps do without exceptions or special addons. (It seems that the Finnish locale now also has 'Quit' translated to mean quit and not 'Close' as it was when I commented above.) *[1] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoundMenu#Music_player_section -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/875002 Title: choosing quit from unity launcher doesn't close rhythmbox if music is playing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/875002/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 873191] Re: Ubuntu starts with lowest brightness on HP G62[regression]
I came across a suggestion to a brightness issue on a different machine that was fixed by setting GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX= to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=acpi_os_name=Microsoft Windows XP. Apparently fooling the bios into thinking its running Windows frees up more facilities including control of brightness. To make the adjustment to Grub, go to a terminal, sudo gedit etc/default/grub will put the grub file into gedit, find the line and edit it and save. Then in the terminal sudo update-grub. For example: steve@steve-laptop:~$ ll ~/.gvfs/ total 4 dr-x-- 4 steve steve0 Sep 10 08:54 ./ drwxr-xr-x 73 steve steve 4096 Sep 12 10:07 ../ drwx-- 1 steve steve0 Dec 31 1969 Documents on Steve s iPhone/ drwx-- 1 steve steve 544 Sep 9 10:57 Steve s iPhone/ (Note the extra spaces between my name and the 's' - these should not be there). The strange naming, with extraneous spaces, is also seen in nautilus and other windows that display the name of the phone, which is ugly. Right single quote is E2 80 99 in UTF-8 (3 bytes - hence the 3 extra spaces in place of the quote mark), so it looks like gvfs is no longer decoding UTF-8? - ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: gvfs-backends 1.13.7-0ubuntu6 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-14.15-generic 3.5.3 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-14-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 2.5.1-0ubuntu7 Architecture: amd64 Date: Wed Sep 12 14:02:40 2012 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Beta amd64 (20100901.1) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gvfs UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to quantal on 2012-08-07 (36 days ago) ** Changed in: libimobiledevice (Ubuntu Quantal) Assignee: (unassigned) = Sebastien Bacher (seb128) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to libimobiledevice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1049991 Title: [regression] UTF-8 in iPhone name displayed incorrectly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libimobiledevice/+bug/1049991/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1069531] Re: Cannot login to Empathy after setting up Google online account
Ok I've got it. In my case, I was using a two-step auth account. The password configured in empathy was an application-specific password, which method seems not supported with OAUTH2. [Bug 875002] Re: choosing quit from unity launcher doesn't close rhythmbox if music is playing
Jani, I can't be certain since I haven't looked at the code, but I think the Quit action on the Unity Launchpad is simply forwarding to the same function that is called when clicking the close button on the title bar. I believe that these are both the same issue being described in different ways - In the case of this report, it's not quitting when you choose to quit _because_ the spec says it shouldn't. Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a regular (non-security) bug. [Bug 64301] Re: Unable to unlock screen when using ldap
Sorry to awaken such an old thread, but in case anyone is still having problems with this, I was able to get it working perfectly in my environment. I was experiencing the original issue and I tried the MattPie/Emu solution from posts #20/21, but I was still receiving two password prompts for local users. I ended up taking their suggestions and coming up with this: I did not have to change anything in /etc/pam.d/gnome-screensaver. Instead, I made the first two lines in /etc/pam.d/common-auth file read as follows: auth[success=2 default=ignore] pam_ldap.so auth[success=1 default=ignore] pam_unix.so nullok_secure use_first_pass Using this configuration, both local users and ldap users can log into the desktop AND unlock the screensaver by entering their password only once.
