2012-11-08 Thread Everaldo Canuto
I just take last few hours to figure out that the problem was on g-s-d,
when try to fill a bug report just found this one.

Searching on Google we can see that lots of people try to create a
workaround using scripts just to set synaptics option TapButton3 to
2. Just try to search on Google for ubuntu synclient TapButton3=2
and you guys can see how much trouble this patch is causing.

Tested here and after remove this patch everthing just start to works
perfect.

[Bug 1073369] Re: Ubuntu patch unconditionally breaks three-finger tap

2012-11-08 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report, the context of this change is in
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-
desktop/2012-February/003694.html

The issue is that when three tap is performed on a touchpad, a middle button
click may be emitted.
...
disabling three-touch tap to click by default is the best option. Users who
want the functionality are still free to enable it themselves using the xinput
utility
...
The Unity action on a three-touch tap would be to show the resize (love)
handles.

[Bug 1073369] Re: Ubuntu patch unconditionally breaks three-finger tap

2012-11-08 Thread Everaldo Canuto
Thank you for the link, it explains why it is disabled but it is not
true that we can enable it using xinput or xorg.conf because every time
gnome-settings-daemon starts it disable three-touch again. Also, when
system came back from suspend it also disable again three-touch.

So, I understand the problem but like all other distros and also GNOME
by default, leave three-touch enabled is a better option.

If we really want to have it correctly implemented then we must create
another gsettings entry to control this behavior so we can use it to
enable or disable this behavior. Also, a much better option is to have
an option on gnome-control-center to control this setting.

In any case, until we have it properly implemented (I can implement it
if you agree) I think that is better to disable this patch.

Other distros don't have gestures like unity has

You are welcome to work on a patch for that, we will be happy to review
it

I think that is better to disable this patch.

Not sure how you went to this conclusion but:
- we got only 1 report so far with 2 users declaring to be annoyed by the issue
- there are other ways to do a middle click
- there is no other way to do gestures
- gestures are important in the default ubuntu desktop

the normal conclusion there is we should keep the patch enabled, what
you suggest is to trade an annoyance for broken gestures on the default
environment of the distribution, that's not really something we want to
do

2012-11-08 Thread Everaldo Canuto
Well, so, it just break Unity. I supposed that we can't remove it then
:(

I will work on a patch so we can have it for 13.04.

Just one last thing, when you say there are other ways to do a middle
click, it is not true, I understand that we need it for Unity but all
other way to enable it is just workarounds that don't works with suspend
or if you open gnome-control-center.

[Bug 1076347] [NEW] two-sided printing not working on my pc, no problem on another one.

2012-11-08 Thread Fujisan (富士山)
Public bug reported:

I am trying to print a pdf file, 2 pages per sheet (two-sided printing).

After opening the Print dialog, I go in tab Page Setup, then select
Long Edge (standard) for option Two-sided but I always get 1 page
printed per sheet. Same problem with ps and dvi files.

On another pc, I do the same but this time I get 2 pages per sheet
(which I want).

Also, my home directory is located on a server and exported to those 2 pcs (nfs
mounted). So that printing problem is not related to some config file in my
home directory.
And I use only one printer (cups driven).

F.

[Bug 1064248] Re: hotkeys do not work in ubuntu 12.04

2012-11-08 Thread stepankk
here is some more troubleshooting:

0. rebooted the system

1. created a bash script, that just appends current date and time to a some log
file:
#!/bin/bash
date ~/date.log

2. went to System Settings Keyboard Shortcuts Custom Shortcuts,
created a new shortcut with command /home/stepank/log.sh and bound it to
Ctrl + Shift + M

3. opened console, typed tail -f ~date.log, opened several windows
(Skype, Pidgin, Google Chrome, gedit) and pressed Ctrl + Shift + M from
all the windows, so far everything worked fine, i saw several new lines
with date in console

4. after about 10 minutes the hotkey stopped working if it is fired from
gedit (if i hit it from gedit, there appears no new lines in the log, if
i hit it from any other window, new lines readily appear)

5. killed gnome-settings-daemon, the hotkey stopped working at all

6. ran xev | sed -n 's/^.*state \([0-9].*\), keycode *\([0-9]\+\) *\(.*\),
.*$/keycode \2 = \3, state = \1/p' to grab events. pressing Ctrl + Shift + M
with focus on Event Tester resulted in the following lines written in console:
keycode 37 = (keysym 0xffe3, Control_L), state = 0x0
keycode 50 = (keysym 0xffe1, Shift_L), state = 0x4
keycode 58 = (keysym 0x4d, M), state = 0x5
keycode 58 = (keysym 0x4d, M), state = 0x5
keycode 50 = (keysym 0xffe1, Shift_L), state = 0x5
keycode 37 = (keysym 0xffe3, Control_L), state = 0x4
This looks ok. According to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting,
this is a desktop issue, what should i do next and what information is needed
to move this bug to Confirmed state?

[Bug 1075928] [NEW] Please, silence IA__gdk_error_trap_pop: assertion `gdk_error_traps != NULL' failed

2012-11-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On Kubuntu 12.10, whenever a gtk application is opened from the konsole,
the terminal gets flooded with

Gdk-CRITICAL **: IA__gdk_error_trap_pop: assertion `gdk_error_traps !=
NULL' failed

which makes the konsole almost impossible to use after a gtk application
has been backgrounded.

The only way to start gtk apps from the konsole (or a terminal) keeping
the konsole usable is to start them redirecting stderr to /dev/null,
which should not be the case.

This message turns a probably innocuous bug in gtk apps into a severe
annoyance also to the konsole.

Window placement is the job of the window manager. I *like* my windows in the
corner; if you want yours elsewhere, fix your window manager placement

[Bug 86670] Re: Flurry of password requests make evolution unusable with down email server

2012-11-08 Thread phxphun1
It's Bck! Along with 12.10 Quantal came a new version of
Evolution. While I've noticed a couple fixes/improvements, it is now
even more unstable than it had been, and this repeated prompting for
password makes it virtually unusable.

If anyone is still watching this in spite of it having been expired,
perhaps it can be re-opened (or a new bug report created? let me know).
Here is some more info that may or may not be pertinent:

I use Evolution for a number of email accounts on several different
servers, all POP/SMTP.

Among my accounts are TWO Yahoo Mail accounts.

This problem seems to only affect ONE of my two Yahoo accounts, and
none of the others.

Sometimes once this has happened, it eventually gets a TCP
connection refused by peer error, followed by spontaneous and sudden
closure of Evolution upon next attempted mail fetch cycle.

By now any sane person would probably have changed email clients, but
Evolution has one feature I've not seen in another client: the ability
to call a shell script as a signature; I use this in conjunction with
fortune-mod to generate random taglines.

(speaking of signatures, that's become somewhat messed up in the latest
version, but that's fodder for another bug report)

[Bug 1076194] Re: Copying large file into flash pen: Error while copying

2012-11-08 Thread Fernando Villas-Boas
IMPORTANT: This is not a real bug.

I didn't take into account the limitation with FAT32 (maximum of 4GB per
file).

The flash pens in question were recent and not supposed to be FAT.
Retested in NTFS: 5,9GB copied with no problem.

Nevertheless, the ERROR MESSAGES should have been more clear (stating
the limitations of the format, especially since it is a Ubuntu default
format); the formatting utility itself could warn unadvised users of
those limitations on the dialog box).

This report was also influenced by the present difficulties of Quantal
12.10 with formatting flash pens and Disks. Gnome Utility Disks is
useless in 12.10. I've had to use Windows to clean them and format for
testing.

12.10 is crippled in that area right now.

[Bug 1076194] Re: Copying large file into flash pen: Error while copying

2012-11-08 Thread Fernando Villas-Boas
Yes, this was a question after all; I am very embarrassed for causing this
trouble; the question is double:

- Why can't error messages related to FAT32 limits (4GB) during copying mention
this common error?
- Why is it no longer possible to rapidly format flash pens from the Unity
sidebar (or from the navigation pane? right-clickformat)

+ Verification is simple, open a chat window with someone where the history
doesn't fill the chat window and leave it sit idle. While it is open, check the
load created by the empathy-chat process.

- ProblemType: Bug
- DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04
+ [Regression potential]
+ Low, this really just slows down how aggressive the javascript is in
detecting how close it is to the bottom of the window.
+
+
+
+ This may have started since I upgraded my system to 12.04, it was certainly a
recent development at around that time. I am using empathy for IRC only,
connected to four channels on two servers, though even disabling all accounts
does not change this. The empathy-chat process is very consistently at 9% CPU,
with spikes at 10% or higher from time to time. I have tested this on mobile
broadband, wifi and ethernet.

theme-ubuntu/0.3.3-0ubuntu0.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update

[Bug 1076499] [NEW] DVD AC-3 Audio is played in stereo in paththrou mode

2012-11-08 Thread Daniel Schürmann
Public bug reported:

This is related to Bug #28177.

Totem can play an pure ac3 sound file and it is recognized as Dolby Digital
source by my amplifier.
This is not the case with DVDs!
With Totem, DVDs are always recognized by my amp as stereo.
Playing the same DVD with vlc-player, Dolby Digital is recognized fine.
Totem shows in properties that the DVD has Dobly Digital (AC-3) codec.

This was tested with totem 3.0.1 on Ubuntu 12.4

[Bug 1073823] Re: Shotwell does not link movies to events when migrating existing collection

2012-11-08 Thread Lucas Beeler
During import from the camera card, shotwell is able
to gather information about the video files

When Shotwell is able to gather video metadata, have you connected the
camera directly to the computer or have you simply mounted the camera's
memory card (say, via an internal SD card reader on your computer)
without connecting the camera itself? I ask because, when Shotwell talks
directly with cameras, communication is mediated via libgphoto2, a
standard Linux camera access library. In some cases libgphoto2 is able
to gather metadata that Shotwell itself cannot.

Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please

[Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity Global Menu

2012-11-08 Thread Pedro Bessa
manny,

you wanted title bar click to toggle the menu bar. If people didn't want
it, you said you would accept title bar hover to toggle the menu bar.
I'm going to go with you! :-) I want title bar hover to toggle the menu
bar.

Soon, I want:
- when the app is launched, the menu bar must appear for three seconds, then
disappear for discoverability
- instead of toggle, unless it's needed (
install mozilla labs' lesschrome hd, hover tab bar, hover page content *
)
- instead of hover, slightly delayed hover (
turn off global menu bar integration, restart fx, turn off menu bar, click app
button, slightly delayed hover a menu item **
)

Later, if all this works, I want:
- not only the menu bar, all bars under the title bar
- not only all bars under the title bar, window controls

[Bug 1074753] [NEW] error mounting encrypted volume/keychain error/volume not mounted

2012-11-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

You have been subscribed to a public security bug:

When mounting a LUKS encrypted drive from nautilus (example /dev/sda1 is
not automatically mounted at startup), an error is reported upon
successful entering of passphrase that keychain cannot be updated at
this time. The device then disappears altogether from the nautilus
window and seems to have vanished, but actually the mapper object has
been created and can be mounted manually from the command line.

This leaves the user potentially believing the device was never mounted
but in actuality the mapper object is sitting there with their encrypted
drive just waiting to be mounted. Furthermore, this leaves the user with
no way to remove the mapped drive unless through the command window
which, of course, means the user needs to know the mapped object was
created in the first place.

[Bug 1076802] [NEW] Widget rendering broken after quantal upgrade

2012-11-08 Thread Russell Neches
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from the LTS release to quantal, something seems to have
gone very wrong with evolution. It is extremely slow; opening a new
message window takes fifteen to thirty seconds, although there is little
or no CPU, memory, network or disk activity.

Also, it seems to draw widgets incorrectly. See attached screenshot.

Evolution package version : 3.6.0-0ubunt amd64
Ubuntu release : 12.10

2012-11-08 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Detlef, or anyone else affected,

Accepted seahorse into precise-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/seahorse/3.2.2-0ubuntu2.1 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at

[Bug 1076830] [NEW] panel crashes if you add, remove, then add the same applet

2012-11-08 Thread Alistair Buxton
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:

1. windows-alt-right-click the panel, and then add to panel
2. Add an applet that you don't already have, eg Fish, or Notification area
(which is inexplicably missing from the default config)
3. Close Add to panel window
4. windows-alt-right-click the applet you just added and remove it.

[Bug 861171] Re: Shutdown from greeter does nothing when multiple accounts open

2012-11-08 Thread ethanay
why can't the greeter just say, X user(s) is/are still logged in.
Please log out of all accounts before attempting to shut down or
reboot. and ignore all the nastly permissions stuff??

If an admin really needs to shut down, it's easy enough to do via
terminal or tty. are there really daily use cases where a standard user
needs permission to shut down if other accounts are still logged in?

i think we should also consider whether those other accounts are most
likely to be guest sessions, anyways...

[Bug 287646] Re: Default window size is unhelpfully small

2012-11-08 Thread colin hercus
Hi,
I'm also having this problem but it doesn't fit b3bnmores scenarios.
Using Ubuntu 11.10, eVince 3.2.1

1. every time a pdf is opened it is on left of screen and close to top and it's
vertical size is about 50% of screen.
2. I always have to drag screen to right and down and then resize the window.
3. I 've tried menu EDIT | Use Current Settings as default but it makes no
difference, the window always opens in the same place. This is case whether I
reopen the pdf I was using when I clicked before mentioned menu or if I open a
new pdf. I cannot find any other options for setting default screen size.
4. If I open several pdfs each new one is lower by height of the title bar.

It would be nice if windows opened with fontsize large enough to be
readable, 100% of original or perhaps smaller to fit page size on
screen.

Thanks, Colin

[Bug 1070817] Re: make test fails in CompizConfigPython.test_* (OTHER_FAULT)

2012-11-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
So at the lowest level in compiz, the issue is this call generating SIGTRAP:
g_settings_new(org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings)

The schema is installed:
/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings.gschema.xml
and I have recompiled it a couple of times too.

** Also affects: glib2.0 (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Changed in: glib2.0 (Ubuntu)
Assignee: (unassigned) = Ryan Lortie (desrt)
