Thank you for your bug report, the context of this change is in https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu- desktop/2012-February/003694.html The issue is that when three tap is performed on a touchpad, a middle button click may be emitted. ... disabling three-touch tap to click by default is the best option. [Bug 1073369] Re: Ubuntu patch unconditionally breaks three-finger tap
Thank you for the link, it explains why it is disabled but it is not true that we can enable it using xinput or xorg.conf because every time gnome-settings-daemon starts it disable three-touch again. Also, when system came back from suspend it also disable again three-touch. So, I understand the problem but like all other distros and also GNOME by default, leave three-touch enabled is a better option. If we really want to have it correctly implemented then we must create another gsettings entry to control this behavior so we can use it to enable or disable this behavior. Also, a much better option is to have an option on gnome-control-center to control this setting. In any case, until we have it properly implemented (I can implement it if you agree) I think that is better to disable this patch. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1073369 Title: Ubuntu patch unconditionally breaks three-finger tap To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1073369/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1073369] Re: Ubuntu patch unconditionally breaks three-finger tap
So, I understand the problem but like all other distros and also GNOME by default, leave three-touch enabled is a better option. Other distros don't have gestures like unity has If we really want to have it correctly implemented then we must create another gsettings entry to control this behavior so we can use it to enable or disable this behavior. Also, a much better option is to have an option on gnome-control-center to control this setting. In any case, until we have it properly implemented (I can implement it if you agree) You are welcome to work on a patch for that, we will be happy to review it I think that is better to disable this patch. Not sure how you went to this conclusion but: - we got only 1 report so far with 2 users declaring to be annoyed by the issue - there are other ways to do a middle click - there is no other way to do gestures - gestures are important in the default ubuntu desktop the normal conclusion there is we should keep the patch enabled, what you suggest is to trade an annoyance for broken gestures on the default environment of the distribution, that's not really something we want to do -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1073369 Title: Ubuntu patch unconditionally breaks three-finger tap To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1073369/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1064248] Re: hotkeys do not work in ubuntu 12.04
here is some more troubleshooting: 0. rebooted the system 1. created a bash script, that just appends current date and time to a some log file: #!/bin/bash date ~/date.log 2. went to System Settings Keyboard Shortcuts Custom Shortcuts, created a new shortcut with command /home/stepank/log.sh and bound it to Ctrl + Shift + M 3. opened console, typed tail -f ~date.log, opened several windows (Skype, Pidgin, Google Chrome, gedit) and pressed Ctrl + Shift + M from all the windows, so far everything worked fine, i saw several new lines with date in console 4. after about 10 minutes the hotkey stopped working if it is fired from gedit (if i hit it from gedit, there appears no new lines in the log, if i hit it from any other window, new lines readily appear) 5. killed gnome-settings-daemon, the hotkey stopped working at all 6. ran xev | sed -n 's/^.*state \([0-9].*\), keycode *\([0-9]\+\) *\(.*\), .*$/keycode \2 = \3, state = \1/p' to grab events. pressing Ctrl + Shift + M with focus on Event Tester resulted in the following lines written in console: keycode 37 = (keysym 0xffe3, Control_L), state = 0x0 keycode 50 = (keysym 0xffe1, Shift_L), state = 0x4 keycode 58 = (keysym 0x4d, M), state = 0x5 keycode 58 = (keysym 0x4d, M), state = 0x5 keycode 50 = (keysym 0xffe1, Shift_L), state = 0x5 keycode 37 = (keysym 0xffe3, Control_L), state = 0x4 This looks ok. [Bug 1075928] [NEW] Please, silence IA__gdk_error_trap_pop: assertion `gdk_error_traps != NULL' failed
You have been subscribed to a public bug: On Kubuntu 12.10, whenever a gtk application is opened from the konsole, the terminal gets flooded with Gdk-CRITICAL **: IA__gdk_error_trap_pop: assertion `gdk_error_traps != NULL' failed which makes the konsole almost impossible to use after a gtk application has been backgrounded. The only way to start gtk apps from the konsole (or a terminal) keeping the konsole usable is to start them redirecting stderr to /dev/null, which should not be the case. This message turns a probably innocuous bug in gtk apps into a severe annoyance also to the konsole. ** Affects: gtk+2.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-comment -- Please, silence IA__gdk_error_trap_pop: assertion `gdk_error_traps != NULL' failed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1075928 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 86670] Re: Flurry of password requests make evolution unusable with down email server
It's Bck! Along with 12.10 Quantal came a new version of Evolution. While I've noticed a couple fixes/improvements, it is now even more unstable than it had been, and this repeated prompting for password makes it virtually unusable. If anyone is still watching this in spite of it having been expired, perhaps it can be re-opened (or a new bug report created? let me know). Here is some more info that may or may not be pertinent: I use Evolution for a number of email accounts on several different servers, all POP/SMTP. Among my accounts are TWO Yahoo Mail accounts. This problem seems to only affect ONE of my two Yahoo accounts, and none of the others. Sometimes once this has happened, it eventually gets a TCP connection refused by peer error, followed by spontaneous and sudden closure of Evolution upon next attempted mail fetch cycle. By now any sane person would probably have changed email clients, but Evolution has one feature I've not seen in another client: the ability to call a shell script as a signature; I use this in conjunction with fortune-mod to generate random taglines. (speaking of signatures, that's become somewhat messed up in the latest version, but that's fodder for another bug report) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/86670 Title: Flurry of password requests make evolution unusable with down email server To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evolution/+bug/86670/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1076194] Re: Copying large file into flash pen: Error while copying
IMPORTANT: This is not a real bug. I didn't take into account the limitation with FAT32 (maximum of 4GB per file). The flash pens in question were recent and not supposed to be FAT. Retested in NTFS: 5,9GB copied with no problem. Nevertheless, the ERROR MESSAGES should have been more clear (stating the limitations of the format, especially since it is a Ubuntu default format); the formatting utility itself could warn unadvised users of those limitations on the dialog box). This report was also influenced by the present difficulties of Quantal 12.10 with formatting flash pens and Disks. Gnome Utility Disks is useless in 12.10. I've had to use Windows to clean them and format for testing. 12.10 is crippled in that area right now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1076194 Title: Copying large file into flash pen: Error while copying To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1076194/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

During import from the camera card, shotwell is able to gather information about the video files When Shotwell is able to gather video metadata, have you connected the camera directly to the computer or have you simply mounted the camera's memory card (say, via an internal SD card reader on your computer) without connecting the camera itself? I ask because, when Shotwell talks directly with cameras, communication is mediated via libgphoto2, a standard Linux camera access library. [Bug 1074753] [NEW] error mounting encrypted volume/keychain error/volume not mounted
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** You have been subscribed to a public security bug: When mounting a LUKS encrypted drive from nautilus (example /dev/sda1 is not automatically mounted at startup), an error is reported upon successful entering of passphrase that keychain cannot be updated at this time. The device then disappears altogether from the nautilus window and seems to have vanished, but actually the mapper object has been created and can be mounted manually from the command line. This leaves the user potentially believing the device was never mounted but in actuality the mapper object is sitting there with their encrypted drive just waiting to be mounted. [Bug 861171] Re: Shutdown from greeter does nothing when multiple accounts open
why can't the greeter just say, X user(s) is/are still logged in. Please log out of all accounts before attempting to shut down or reboot. and ignore all the nastly permissions stuff?? If an admin really needs to shut down, it's easy enough to do via terminal or tty. are there really daily use cases where a standard user needs permission to shut down if other accounts are still logged in? i think we should also consider whether those other accounts are most likely to be guest sessions, anyways... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/861171 Title: Shutdown from greeter does nothing when multiple accounts open To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/indicator-session/+bug/861171/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 287646] Re: Default window size is unhelpfully small
Hi, I'm also having this problem but it doesn't fit b3bnmores scenarios. Using Ubuntu 11.10, eVince 3.2.1 1. every time a pdf is opened it is on left of screen and close to top and it's vertical size is about 50% of screen. 2. I always have to drag screen to right and down and then resize the window. 3. I 've tried menu EDIT | Use Current Settings as default but it makes no difference, the window always opens in the same place. This is case whether I reopen the pdf I was using when I clicked before mentioned menu or if I open a new pdf. I cannot find any other options for setting default screen size. 4. If I open several pdfs each new one is lower by height of the title bar. It would be nice if windows opened with fontsize large enough to be readable, 100% of original or perhaps smaller to fit page size on screen.
