[Bug 1077696] Re: mounted samba share stops working for file access

2012-11-14 Thread Jussi H.
I'm using quantal 12.10 and gvfs 1.14

I have the same problem you can't kill VLC when it gets stuck which happens
about 50% of the you try to start video.
Same happens with GNOME mplayer if you open two of them to play same file.
Only way to kill all stuck processes is to kill gvfsd-smb.
Tried upgrading fuse to 2.9.2 since it has some kind deadlock fixes. I though
gvfsd-smb used fuse but building fuse and upgrading it to 2.9.2 didn't help.

gvfsd-fuse seems to be stuck as well. Because if i try to kill gvfsd-
fuse it doesn't get killed until gvfsd-smb is killed.

Stack traces.

Like to add that VLC and GNOME mplayer accesing same file doesn't always
deadlock but deadlocks most of the time.
My laptop is dual core, this deadlock might not happen with single core

Could you give a good test example on how to reproduce the crash? This
is going to be necessary if you want it to reach a stable release of

[Bug 1073823] Re: Shotwell does not link movies to events when migrating existing collection

2012-11-14 Thread melenzb
In fact I insert the SD card into my cardreader. No camera involved.
As I mentioned before, the movie files are stored in a Bluray disc filesystem
compatible format on the card. Maybe more info is present elsewhere in that
structure, which is lost after files are stored on the harddisk. After download
they are stored in date coded folders as they have been with my previous photo
management tool.
Would it be an idea, that when metadata is not present in the file, it will
simply base event catagorisation on file creation date? That should be
extractable from the existing files, shouldn't it?

The impact of this issue might be mitigated once we have:

[Bug 1068155] Re: pulsesink: Segfault in pulsesink.c:2077 gst_pulsesink_pad_acceptcaps()

2012-11-14 Thread Erik Botö
Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I can only reproduce the problem
using a some of our closed source code, and even then it's a relatively
uncommon crash. I only had a small amount of time playing around trying
to trigger the bug in a minimal test, but were unable to do so.

I understand that this might disqualify it from getting into the stable
release. If someone else has the same issue they'll hopefully find this
bug and can build a fixed version of their own, just like we do
internally.

[Bug 1078679] [NEW] Gnome fallback - intermittent menus on top panel

2012-11-14 Thread Matt Johnson
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.04.1, up-to-date.

Using gnome fallback session on fat clients via ltsp, sometimes a user
is presented with an empty top panel (no Applications menu, no Places
menu, no indicators). The panel is there but no menus. This happens
perhaps 1 in 20 logins and across various users and various machines.
Workaround is a desktop launcher (named FixMyMenu) that the user can run
that calls the following script:

#!/bin/sh
killall gnome-panel
gnome-panel

This works in the vast majority of cases, though occasionally needs to
be run more than once before the menus appear on the panel.

[Bug 1078681] [NEW] No Option to Increase default Scrollbar Width

2012-11-14 Thread Lonnie Lee Best

There should be an option to increase scrollbar-width under:
System Settings Personal Appearance

The number of appearance modification options is ridiculously limited in

2012-11-14 Thread Colin Watson
Hello Otto, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gnome-control-center into precise-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
control-center/1:3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1078686] [NEW] No Option to Increase default Min, Max, Exit Button size in Unity

2012-11-14 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
Public bug reported:

There should be an option to increase the size of buttons: minimize, maximize,
and exit under:
System Settings Personal Appearance

The number of appearance modification options is ridiculously limited in
Ubuntu 12.10 compared to other major operating systems and even compared
to the old Gnome2 desktop.

I'm not big on fancy options, but I find sizing options crucial for
usability.

Future updates and releases of Ubuntu should at least focus on adding
Appearance options that allow you to control the default sizes of
scrollbars, title bars, and exit, maximize, minimize button-sizes.

2012-11-14 Thread Nice Testhouse
Week 46 - Same issue observed with Firefox browser on Ubuntu 12.04
Precise Nvidia machine with ppa:unity-team/sru. After step 4, the
focussed window (recently minimized) was blank just showing the top
title bar.

Please note that any action like a click anywhere on the desktop will
bring the window back to normal looking displaying its content.

TEST CASE ID CAN - Can-92 :: Version : 1 alttab/windows-tab-release-
minimized

Test Steps:
1 Open an application with multiple windows (some of them should be
minimized)
2 Press alt + tab until you highlight this application, hold alt
3 Continue tapping tab to highlight on a minimized window
4 Release alt

Expected result:
- After a short delay, all windows for this application should be shown (even
minimized ones) [2D: fail]

[Bug 1078747] [NEW] Missing Feature to Control the Order in which Startup Applications are Launched

Public bug reported:

The Startup Application console allows you to specify all the
applications you'd like to launch during start-up, but it doesn't allow
you to control the order in which they are launched.

I'd like the ability to specify the order without having to write a
custom script. So this is a feature request.

[Bug 1078752] [NEW] Start-UP Command Field Doesn't Support More Than One Command

2012-11-14 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
Public bug reported:

I have an application (sudo apt-get install autokey-qt) that doesn't
provide an option to launch minimized (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/autokey/+bug/1064085 ).

In Startup Applications, I attempted to solve this problem by running two
command at once:
autokey-qt ; wmctrl -k on

From the command line the line above both launches autokey-qt and
minimizes all windows, but as a Startup-Application-command it fails to
even launch autokey-qt.

It would be nice if Startup Applications supported the ability to both
(1) allow you to launch an application and (2) allow you to provide an
additional command for controlling the window of that application.

[Bug 1041137] Re: Activating suspend from power button menu does not work

2012-11-14 Thread Martin Pitt
Uploaded to raring-proposed queue for SRU team review.

** Description changed:

When I click the power button on my laptop, the suspend/reboot/shutdown
menu shows up. Selecting suspend does nothing. The other buttons work.

Suspend works if you activate it by closing the lid or by selecting
suspend from the top right corner menu.
+
+ SRU TEST CASE: See description above; pressing the suspend button in
+ the dialog that pops up after pressing the power button should actually
+ suspend the machine.
+
+ SRU PATCH: http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-
+ session/commit/?id=e7cbff3fb381c , landed in raring and upstream
+ yesterday.
+
+ REGRESSION POTENTIAL: None of the upower methods (that is, suspend and
+ hibernation) worked in gnome-session before as the client object has
+ never been initialized. Now it does, which should not only fix the power
+ button, but also automatic suspend on configured timeout. The latter
+ might be a surprise for some users which have configured suspend after
+ some idle time; but then again, that is an actual bug fix as well.

[Bug 1078679] Re: Gnome fallback - intermittent menus on top panel

2012-11-14 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
I've just experienced it again in an LTSP fat client. Gnome-panel was showing
but without any text, looked liked it hanged while loading.
strace -p $(pidof gnome-panel) displayed only the following:

# strace -p 1928
Process 1928 attached - interrupt to quit
restart_syscall(... resuming interrupted call ...

In .xsession-errors I saw the following but I don't know if they were printed
by gnome-panel:
Προειδοποίηση διαχειριστή παραθύρων: Log level 8:
meta_display_unregister_x_window: assertion `g_hash_table_lookup
(display-window_ids, xwindow) != NULL' failed
Προειδοποίηση διαχειριστή παραθύρων: Άκυρο WM_TRANSIENT_FOR παράθυρο 0x3a1
που καθορίστηκε για 0x3a3 (Ανώνυ).

The first line translates to window manager warning,
and the second one to window manager warning: cancelled WM_TRANSIENT_FOR
window 0x3a1 that was defined for 0x3a3 (No nam...)

gnome-panel --replace did _not_ work the first time, it resulted in the same
non-functioning panel without menus,
but it worked fine the second time I ran it.

I should also note that LTSP fat clients are using SSHFS, just in case someone
finds out it's related to file locking or something.
We weren't experiencing it in 10.04 with NFS /home (300 schools, worked fine
for 2 years), but that was Gnome 2 though.

[Bug 648424] Re: Export doesn't deal with different files with same filename

2012-11-14 Thread Michael Hendry
And again in 0.12.3.

I rarely use the export feature, and I'd forgotten about this bug until
it bit me again today, as I collected together a slideshow of winning
entries from our Rotary Club's camera club for a presentation.

The image for each competition are stored in a single directory, and
because the filenames are constructed from the members' surnames, with
places in the competition indicated by a prefixed digit, there is a lot
of duplication of filenames. Modesty forbids me from mentioning my own
successes, but one of our members is an Associate of the Royal
Photographic Society, and he has a lot of 1bowen.jpg entries!

I didn't file a request-for-change ticket last time - if I'm not side-
tracked again I'll do it this time.

[Bug 1078839] [NEW] gnome-terminal memory leak

2012-11-14 Thread Asa Romberger
Public bug reported:

I am running gnome-terminal with multiple windown (9+) on a continuous
basis. At least 7 of those windows are running processes that put output
in the window on a continuous basis. gnome-terminal starts with a
footprint of 516mb but within a day, the memory footprint is up to
1540mb and continues to grow and the system gets more and more sluggish.
This did not happen until I upgraded to the new release. After about a
day, I need to terminate and restart gnome-terminal in order to get the
system responsive again.

[Bug 296585] Re: Archive Mounter action should open mounted folder

2012-11-14 Thread Thomas-sisson-1
I consider this broken, not a bug. Is anyone still working on this
project; this is still not fixed four years later. Has anyone done
anything with this? Seriously, Microsoft has been able to have this
built in since Windows XP.

Additionally, Linux now has a way of defining universal default
programs. Why do programs still complain that they can't find one or
another program that isn't installed by default because hasn't been to
touched in years?

[Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME

2012-11-14 Thread William Engisch
I have this bug with my Dell M1330 laptop that is running Xubuntu 12.04
64bit with Thunar as my file manager. It appears that it has nothing to
do with file manager. I remember when I fresh installed, I had some
problems with lightdm causing slow booting that I fixed with a patch:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1970326page=5. All of my
.goutstream-* files seem to be associated with shutdown. For now I'm
just periodically deleting the files when I notice a stack of them, but
it would be nice to get a real fix for this. I'd rather not autorun a
script to delete these benign files, but that is a temporary workaround.
Hope this information helps in the quest to nail down this minor issue.

[Bug 1078928] [NEW] brasero leaves process running

2012-11-14 Thread rooijan
Public bug reported:

In Gnome when I right click on an ISO and Open with Brasero to burn I
noticed that even with a successfully burn there was always a process
left running. So next time you try to Right Click Burn nothing will
happen. This was true for the last couple versions of Ubuntu. Although
on 12.04 the CD also did not eject correctly on finishing.

For me the following fix worked. Basically calling brasero needs the
-i switch.

# diff brasero.desktop /tmp/brasero.desktop
7c7
 Exec=brasero -i %U
---
 Exec=brasero %U

I found some information at these two locations:
https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2158
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=771012

Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit with brasero Version: 3.4.1-0ubuntu3.

** Affects: brasero (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1069207] Re: Alacarte ignores XDG_MENU_PREFIX

2012-11-14 Thread Clint Byrum
Hello LaChild, or anyone else affected,

Accepted alacarte into quantal-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alacarte/3.5.5-0ubuntu1.1 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
