Re: [Bug 1080591] Re: shotwell fails to authenticate with non-primary address

2012-11-20 Thread Ketil Malde
Lucas Beeler 1080...@bugs.launchpad.net writes:

Are you using the Ubuntu Online Accounts control panel to set up your
Google account or are you configuring it directly in Shotwell?

The latter, but it is hard to tell, since it is all `not mere web links,
but solid code immersed into the desktop'. I think I saw a popup
window which looked like a web page asking for Google authentication at
one point, similar to the picture in:

  http://www.iloveubuntu.net/online-accounts-landed-ubuntu-1210-default

I guess I am using UOA, I tried to delete the authorization info I could
find in the gconf.xml files under .shotwell, but it didn't seem to
change anything. I'll try to hunt and destroy any UOA stuff.

 Note that
since you're running Quantal, unless you built and installed Shotwell
from source, the default build of Shotwell that comes with Quantal has
been patched downstream to use the Ubuntu Online Accounts system for
Google authentication. Hence, this could be a bug either with Shotwell
 or with Ubuntu Online Accounts.

Right, thanks.

I really wish people would stop the immersing thing, it just confuses
things and makes them more complex and fragile.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a

[Bug 1040244] Re: Couldn't add bookmarks to the sidebar

2012-11-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The feature was disabled by upstream because it was hard to make the
distinction between dnd to the sidebar to add a bookmark or dnd to the
sidebar to copy into a bookmark already listed, they decided that you
can add a bookmark through the menus and keybindings since that's the
less frequent action and that dnd will do the copy to the bookmarked
location (which is likely to happen more often)

Thank you for your bug report, that issue seems to be fixed in nautilus
3.6 in raring, closing the bug. The new version got quite some
refactoring though and it's not likely that the fix is easily
backportable to older versions, it's an annoyance but not an important
issue either so not a priority for a stable update.

[Bug 1081041] [NEW] Double ckick attachments opens tmp directory instead of file

2012-11-20 Thread mmalmeida
Public bug reported:

Method:
1) Double click a pdf/ODT mail attachment

Expected:
- File to be opened with the default program (evince, libreoffice). Ie, same
behaviour as double clicking the file in nautilus

Actual:
- Nautilus is opened in ~/.cache/evolution/tmp/ directory (which contains a
version of the attachment)

I'm in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, using Gnome 3.4.2.1. The attachments have their
defaults defined (eg: properties of the PDF displays document viewer in
default application). I've upgraded from previous verisons of Ubuntu.

2012-11-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

2012-11-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Can someone backport this to Ubuntu 12.04?

Not likely, the fix is rewrite most of the backend code to use another
dbus client library, rewrites to use new technologies don't qualify for
stable update, they are too hard to review and with a high chance of
regression in the update

[Bug 36413] Re: Drag-drop column ordering

2012-11-20 Thread Chris Wilson
Comment from the developer:

The basic idea is pretty simple. The track list GtkTreeView will emit
the columns-changed signal when the user reorders columns, at which
point you could extract the column order and write it to GSettings.
After constructing the track list (possibly in
rb_source_bind_settings), you could rearrange the columns using
gtk_tree_view_move_column_after to match the settings. When the value
in GSettings changes, repeat that process.

Making it behave sanely is another matter. If you only have one
setting for column order that applies to all sources (which makes
sense since the settings for column visibility apply to all sources),
it needs to deal with sources that have different sets of columns. I
haven't thought too much about how this would work.

[Bug 181244] Re: libcdio GPL/license violation

2012-11-20 Thread Rockyb
cdda2wav code in libcdio is only for its paranoia library. When we
became aware of the mixing of licenses, the paranoia portion was split
off from libcdio and put into a separate package and the two packages
have separate licenses.

So again and more specifically, libcdio version 0.90 from Oct 27, 2012
does not have any paranoia or cdda2wav code.

[Bug 1077696] Re: mounted samba share stops working for file access

2012-11-20 Thread bwat47
I've seen this problem on a fresh install of 12.10. It doesn't happen
often but when it does its impossible for me to kill vlc or unmount the
share, I have to log out and back in.

I've found a good workaround to avoid the bug completely though (this
work around also fixes a separate problem with vlc, where videos played
from mounted smb shares do not respect VLC's network buffer setting,
because vlc treats videos opened via gvfs as local files). Instead of
double clicking the video in nautilus, drag and drop the video into vlc.
Doing this uses vlc's inbuilt smb access module instead of gvfs. Note:
for this to work you probably need to go into vlc's settings and fill in
your smb username and password (tools preferences all input and
codecs access modules SMB)

[Bug 1008268] Re: Custom keyboard shortcuts stop working after reboot

2012-11-20 Thread Tim Peeters
I set the following keyboards shortcuts in System Settings:

Keyboard Shortcuts Windows:
Toggle maximization state = Alt+Control+X

Keyboard Shortcuts Navigation
Switch to workspace 1 = Alt+Control+1
Switch to workspace 2 = Alt+Control+2
Switch to workspace 3 = Alt+Control+3
Switch to workspace 4 = Alt+Control+4

But whenever I reboot my system (12.10, on a Lenovo Ideapas U300s),
these shortcuts are gone. So I have to set them every time after I boot
my system.

[Bug 304345] Re: File chooser dialog doesn't provide network access

2012-11-20 Thread Hoeflerb
Re: Sebastien and Gary

Yes, the problem is application-specific. Core GNOME applications like
GEdit and Evince include mounted network shares in the Volumes list.
Other applications like Firefox do not. From what I understand about
GtkFileChooser, this functionality has to be added explicitly because it
requires GIO. The default GtkFileChooserDialog does not display network
shares.

The other, related, problem mentioned by Mossroy is that bookmarked, but
unmounted, network shares don't show up in any application except
Nautilus. If you inspect the ~/.gtk-bookmarks file, you can see entries
like smb://server/share in the file, but only Nautilus recognizes these
URIs. On 12.04, GEdit and Evince also recognized them and displayed them
with the other bookmarks (Documents, Downloads, etc), but Firefox did
not. On 12.10, only Nautilus recognizes them.

Re: [Bug 1048059] Re: Adding ACLs to /media/$user does not work

2012-11-20 Thread Shane Pearson
Hey Martin,

OK, I did it. For whatever reason I couldn't get wifi with your account
so I logged back out and into mine and I have net. Well, I've have wifi
issues since 11.10

You are welcome to install whatever and do whatever. Just when I think
I'm Ubuntu savvy, something comes along to let me know that I'm not.

So I'm a bit lost on how you connect to my netbook. But it's all set up.
Just let me know what other info you need.
Thanks again,
Shane

Oh, that's not a command. Create an user account for me (e. g.
pitti), and copy the contents of
 https://launchpad.net/~pitti/+sshkeys into
/home/pitti/.ssh/authorized_keys, then I will be able to log in. As I
will need sudo to run udisks, please set some password for me and
create a /home/pitti/password.txt with the password so that I can see
 it once I'm logged in.

For the record, I might have to install a couple of packages
(udisks2's build dependencies) to build udisks2 until it's fixed. I
will remove them after I'm done.

 Thanks!

[Bug 1081234] [NEW] Main menu not visible when active (top) dock

2012-11-20 Thread Evertjan Garretsen
Public bug reported:

Using the GIMP in Unity is anoying for everytime a dock is the active
window, you have to first click on the image window to be able to see
the main menu.

For example:

when you just selected a tool, you have to click on the menu before it
appears. This is one unneeded extra step and in the GIMP the main menu
is very important for functionailty.

[Bug 304345] Re: File chooser dialog doesn't provide network access

2012-11-20 Thread Hoeflerb
@Sebastien

Yes, gtk3 is new, but it is hard to say if the problem is with gtk+ or
the way the applications themselves are implementing
GtkFileChooserDialog. On the latest Ubuntu 12.10, there is a mix of gtk3
(GEdit, Evince, Nautilus) and gtk2 (Firefox, LibreOffice, GIMP,
Inkscape, Gnumeric) applications, and the behavior is mostly the same.
With the exception of Firefox, both the gtk2 and gtk3 applications seem
to display mounted network shares in the Volumes list. None of the gtk2
or gtk3 applications, with the exception of Nautilus, display bookmarks
of the network share variety (smb://, sftp://, etc).

2012-11-20 Thread Timothy Arceri
@Sebastien

Yes you are right the applications that are not displaying mounts are
using local only mode (which is the default) this is because they do not
rely on the GIO backend and cannot be assumed to handle all the
different network protocols. What my patch is about however is enabling
FUSE mounts were available even when in local only mode as FUSE mounts
provide network locations via a local path. I have not looked into the
bookmarking issue as yet although its possible it could be solved using
similar logic.

dual-screen setup under gnome-2d, as can be seen in .xsession-errors and
Xorg.0.log.
Sometimes metacity crashes then, as it was the case recently, when I had
verbose logging-mode on.

Last 1000 lines of the log before the crash are here:
http://paste.ubuntu.com/1373239/
Line 764 looks to me like the reconfiguration due to a 'flicker'.

Console output of metacity (started from there with METACITY_VERBOSE=1
METACITY_USE_LOGFILE=1 metacity --replace)
metacity:ERROR:core/boxes.c:1165:meta_rectangle_edge_aligns: code should not be
reached

and there is
/var/crash/_usr_bin_metacity.1000.crash

which I will attach.

I do not know, if the two problems are really related (metacity crash, xinerama
re-init), but it looked like (happened at the same time).
Any debugging hints to find the reason for the xinerama re-init are welcome.
Sometimes it is impossible to work due to high frequency of re-inits.

[Bug 304345] Re: File chooser dialog doesn't provide network access

2012-11-20 Thread Timothy Arceri
By the way when I say when available I mean FUSE mounts should always
be available on a default Ubuntu install its just on other OS's that GTK
runs we must check (also on systems where gvfs-fuse has been removed/
not installed).

[Bug 780117] Re: Brasero finishes without error but unusable media [on-the-fly mode] (Ubuntu 11.04 -12.04)

2012-11-20 Thread Nico Zanferrari
Hello, I confirm that the patch works fine on Precise. So,

+1 for going to release on Precise

Technical details: a 32 bit Precise fresh live usb was confirmed to have
the bug with the default Brasero 3.4.1-0ubuntu1 and a DVD RW. After
enabling the proposed repository and the update to 3.4.1-0ubuntu1.1, the
problem is solved (even without a reboot, on the same DVD, after
blanking it with the dvd+rw-format commands).

Many thanks to all,
Nico

It probably thinks those text files are subtitles but then
checks/handles them incorrectly...

Possibly, but it shouldn't read subtitles at all without already running
a media file, but rather just skip them. :)

[Bug 991085] Re: application specific details prompt offers too limited options

2012-11-20 Thread Andreas E.
This crash happens almost daily and it is quite disturbing to see how apport
has been sending (since then) maybe 50-100 worthless bug reports. I would like
to help fixing it, but apport does not let me add correct information.
If this can't be fixed in totem, because the bug reports can't get through, I'm
seriously thinking about uninstalling totem.
