[Bug 1082841] Re: Brightness control not working after latest update

2012-11-25 Thread bcbc
I downgraded to confirm the old version was working (it was). Upgraded
again and this time the Fn keys weren't working, but the brightness
slider was present. There is also so much general instability (multiple
crash reports and lockups) I couldn't confirm that the problem is
related to g-s-d.

Same with me Ubuntu 12.10. Following some updates Restart and Shut down
from the graphic interface no longer work bringing up to the login
screen. I have several graphic interfaces and they all fail - Unity,
Gnome Shell, xfce and lxde. You go to the login screen when you select
Power Off or Restart from the graphic menu. On the login screen these
options do nothing. Terminal sudo poweroff and sudo reboot commands
bith work fine, but it is rather disturbing having to open a terminal
and type my password each time I want to turn off or reboot my machine.

None of the suggestions in this thread worked for me.

This issue seems to persist in Ubuntu for more than a year now. Anyone
having any ideas how to fix it? I can't believe it doesn't bug you
having to power off using the terminal every time. It should be noted
that it worked initially on 12.10 and got broken only following an
upgrade,

Since there is a simple patch that appears to work it would be good if
someone who knows how to do it could incorporate it. I suppose they all
have more important issues to deal with however.

[Bug 1082901] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in _IO_vfprintf_internal()

2012-11-25 Thread melchiaros
Following the headline this here might be a dub of

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/945378

, but the procedure to archive the crsher is different(they only access
the trash folder) and the stacktrace looks only simliar in it's steps. I
could not say if it is the same. They have also not used gksu as far as
I have seen.

[Bug 241736] Re: support EPUB format

2012-11-25 Thread Javier Lorenzana
Evince *should* suport epub. Having a handful of apps, clearly labeled,
to handle out-of-the-box all of the most popular content formats is one
of the best selling points for Ubuntu in my experience.

I read the Ubuntu Brainstorm idea turn down - the approver showed very
poor judgement.

Okular supports epub because it is expected of it. Evince is already
years behind Okular. Let's hop a little closer.

[Bug 398816] Re: Key bindng for Back and Forward functionality

2012-11-25 Thread Denis Bitouzé
I agree with ijk that evince should provide keybindings (customizable,
if possible) for as many functionalities as possible, and least for:

  * navigating through the history,

  * reaching the page number field.

Thanks!

[Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity Global Menu

2012-11-25 Thread Alistair Buxton
Mark, YOU broke this, so it is YOUR responsibility to fix it. Not mine.
Not the guy commenting above me. Not any other contributor to Ubuntu.
You alone drove through these changes in the face of massive resistance,
and by doing that you have taken on all responsibility for ensuring they
work properly. If you don't want to make it your top priority that's
fine. As long as we all know where we stand: that fulfilling your
responsibilities toward the community is not a top priority for you.

We can all make mistakes; when we do, we take responsibility for them.
[except when it isn't a top priority.]

[Bug 1082916] [NEW] Please make Ubuntu navbar patch Unity-specific

2012-11-25 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

For the Ubuntu GNOME Remix, we're trying to ship a nearly pure GNOME
experience on Ubuntu. This can also be useful for Ubuntu designers and
developers as they can simply run XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME gnome-
control-center so see the GNOME user interface.

It would be nice if the 60_ubuntu_nav_bar.patch would not apply to GNOME
sessions. Personally, I consider it bad UI to have a button (All
Settings) that does nothing when clicked when looking at the System
Settings overview.

[Bug 1082922] [NEW] Open with bar breaks the extra pane with

2012-11-25 Thread Dario Ruellan
Public bug reported:

Description:
When you insert a media that can be handled using a specific app, Nautilus
shows a bar with an Open with button, on were it suggest a proper app.
If you have the extra pane active (F3), this bar forces the pane to expand,
narrowing the other one.

Test case:
Insert a media containing, for example, music (if asked for an app, just close
the window).
Open Nautilus
Create another pane using F3.
Select the inserted media.

[Bug 1043769] Re: Monitor image not clickable in display settings after the first time

2012-11-25 Thread Alexander Adam
I have the same problem in x64 Ubuntu and Gnome.
Since 12.10 display management absolutely doesn't work for me on new user
accounts.
Displays are rarely selectable and switching to some unspectacular
configurations lead to graphical errors, black screen or logouts.

I use an ASUS Zenbook UX31A with DELL U2711 via HDMI.

[Bug 1082937] [NEW] Ubuntu froze when creating symbolic link in terminal

2012-11-25 Thread James M. Roche
Public bug reported:

I typed (while in ~/) ln -s /home/username/Dropbox/Linux/.todo .todo
and the system froze. I could move the cursor like an inch or so maybe
once five to ten seconds, but then the system would not respond to any
input from the mouse or keyboard. Ctr+Alt+Delete, Ctr+Alt+Backspace,
Alt+F2, Alt+F4/F5/F6, etc all did nothing. I had to hard reset.

This has happened to me quite a lot, including in earlier versions of
Ubuntu, often but not every time I create a symlink in the terminal.
What is going on?

Description:Ubuntu 12.10
Release:12.10

Expected: Creation of symlink in home directory.
What happened: System froze and would not respond.

2012-11-25 Thread RaduStoica
Related bugs:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=674793 - this was fixed in
Adwaita, then later it was rolled back.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/light-themes/+bug/988240 (i
marked this as a duplicate).

Seems like an easy fix in the theme styling, unless there is some other
underlying technical reason for which they had to roll back the fix in
Adwaita.

[Bug 1052481] Re: Nautilus's split pane lacks an indicator for the active pane

2012-11-25 Thread RaduStoica
What has to be done is simply adding something like:

.nautilus-inactive-pane .view {
background-color: shade (@bg_color, 0.8);
}

in the gtk-3.0/apps/nautilus.css file for the Ambiance theme. Varying
the coefficient (0.8) will make it lighter/darker. Or we could use
another color instead of the default bg_color.

After doing some googling, it seems that the extra pane does not exist
in Nautilus 3.6 (https://live.gnome.org/Nautilus/Roadmap/3.6 and there's
also a discussion here http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2012/08/ubuntu-12-10
-may-ship-with-older-but-more-featured-nautilus). Probably this is why
the styling was removed from Adwaita trunk. So, we should ask around if
Ubuntu plans to stay with 3.4 for raring, otherwise this bug has no
relevance.

[Bug 974963] Re: [soundnua]: hdmi audio missing in sound settings

2012-11-25 Thread Diederik
I have a similar hardware setup, and the same problem. When my HDMI TV
goes on standby or of, the E350 integreated graphics card's HDMI sound
out is no longer listed as a audio device under sound settings.

My workaround is to log out and back in again. Unpluging the HDMLI and
plugging it in again also brings the sound back to life.

Restarting pulse does not work for me, neither does it help to send
noise to the HDMI port. I see Beltrachi says it works for him, though
that was from bringing the machine up again from suspension. My PC
stays on.

I am using Ubuntu 12.04 with unity.

Attached is the output of also-info.sh when the sound works. The sound
not working case, will fillow shortly.

[Bug 1052481] Re: Nautilus's split pane lacks an indicator for the active pane

2012-11-25 Thread Dario Ruellan
Hi RaduStoica. Thanks for taking the time to investigate this.

About the Nautilus versions issue, Ubuntu is using the 3.4 branch on its
LTS release, and even if they backport an update to 3.6 (unlikely), the
majority of users should keep the 3.4 for 3 years at least, so I think
it worth fixing.

[Bug 1082974] [NEW] Musicbrainz shows tracks from first disc for all subsequent discs

2012-11-25 Thread Steve Holmes
Public bug reported:

For a box set, insert the first disc, Musicbrainz returns details of the
first disc. Extract the disc.

Insert the second disc. Instead of returning the details of the second
disc, the details of the first disc are returned again, i.e. if the
first disc had 5 tracks and the second disc had 7 tracks then you would
see the 5 tracks from disc 1 (including durations) and then the first 2
tracks from disc 2.

This has happened with two different box sets I have been importing
recently. It is particularly annoying because the correct durations are
overridden, which makes it impossible to correct the information
manually and extract the disc.

I appreciate that this may be a problem with the Musicbrainz API rather
than Rhythmbox itself, but even if it is, it should be possible to
create a workaround (e.g. ask the user to confirm that the disc info is
correct, and if not, discard it, or make durations editable, etc.)

[Bug 989866] Re: System monitor showing inaccurate CPU%

2012-11-25 Thread Cruz Bishop
Hi, Adam.

Gnome System Monitor by default does not divide CPU usage by the number
of cores available - In your case, it was fully utilizing the equivalent
of more than one core.

This could have been one full core and some of another, or just part of
each core.

To change this to show a more 'Windows-like' number, you can go to Edit
- Preferences - Processes - Divide CPU usage by CPU count.

Thanks for reporting this anyway :)

[Bug 762058] Re: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty after gnome screensaver, can't click or focus

2012-11-25 Thread Raymund Zacharias
Linx Mint 14 (based on Ubuntu 11.10), current updates, fglrx 9.010 (AMD
Catalyst 12.11 beta (1)), wired USB keyboard.

Sometimes after the screen powered off when moving the mouse to get back
to the unlock screen the unlock text input field can't be focused, so it
isn't possible to type in the password. Pressing the buttons works
though and they also react. Resetting X works but the user then gets
logged out.

Somtimes when working the focus gets frozen and only reverts back to
normal after Alt+F4 closing the last window where the freezing occured.

[Bug 1082994] [NEW] No Ctrl + Shift + Esc keybindings to show System Monitor

2012-11-25 Thread Cruz Bishop
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I was recently showing a friend my Ubuntu installation. He has been
using Windows since around 1996, and so is used to using the Control +
Shift + Escape keybinding to show the (system monitor / process list) in
Windows.

In Ubuntu, there is no such keybinding by default.

For us experienced Linux users, it's probably not a big deal, but for
someone coming from Windows after using it for a number of years, it
could be an issue.

This was tested in 12.10 / Quantal Quetzal. I am pretty sure the same
applies to 11.10 and 12.04

[Bug 359835] Re: Brasero gives confusing message (No space left on resource) when device containing /tmp is full

2012-11-25 Thread Sebastian Carneiro
According to what is stated in upstream bug, brasero handles /tmp use
differently now, which basically means that this bug report can be
resolved / closed.

Is this the right way to deal with this ? Shall we close this bug report
according to what upstream did ?

Thanks.

According to what Pedro said on #3 comment, this has been fixed.
Looking into the corresponding commit in upstream git repository, and

RE: [Bug 838792] Re: Restart logs out, even when there are no other people logged in

2012-11-25 Thread Margaret Mackintosh
Hi,

Sounds like you are able to do more things. I do have anything. Can only
get my home folder and get online by pressing F3 for home folder, then
Help and click on 'Get Help Online' in order to get the web browser up
so I can do things online. Otherwise I have nothing. Hope to Download
Ubuntu when I have the time. That should fix my problem, I hope. Will
let everyone know if I succeed.

 people logged in

Same with me Ubuntu 12.10. Following some updates Restart and Shut down
from the graphic interface no longer work bringing up to the login
screen. I have several graphic interfaces and they all fail - Unity,
Gnome Shell, xfce and lxde. You go to the login screen when you select
Power Off or Restart from the graphic menu. On the login screen these
options do nothing. Terminal sudo poweroff and sudo reboot commands
both work fine, but it is rather disturbing having to open a terminal
and type my password each time I want to turn off or reboot my machine.
None of the suggestions in this thread worked for me.

This issue seems to persist in Ubuntu for more than a year now. Anyone
having any ideas how to fix it? I can't believe it doesn't bug you
having to power off using the terminal every time. It should be noted
that it worked initially on 12.10 and got broken only following an
 upgrade,

[Bug 792085] Re: Automatic remount of safely removed drive

2012-11-25 Thread Rod Zazubek
This problem has not gone away with
Linux Mint 14 (Ubuntu 12.10) on my
pc with the nvidia chipset.
In fact, it is now worse because
Safely Remove Drive has been removed.
See launchpad #1067876.
So to safely remove my portable hard drive
I now need the following 4 commands:
 udisks --unmount /dev/sdb1
 udisks --detach /dev/sdb
wait for remount
 udisks --unmount /dev/sdb1
 udisks --detach /dev/sdb
Replace sdb with whatever your drive is using.
Add more udisks --unmount commands if you have
multiple partitions mounted.

[Bug 1077696] Re: mounted samba share stops working for file access

2012-11-25 Thread Rob Tongue
I have this as well but not with VLC. When using anything that isn't
aware of the workings of fuse/gvfs, so it relies on the mounted folder
that it creates. With things like Shotwell, MusicBrainz Picard, etc,
after a few minutes of doing its thing importing stuff, gvfsd-fuse and
all associated processes keel over on me and cannot be killed. Seems
there are some sys calls that are confusing it that these apps may use.
I can provide any info that is needed, as long as I know how to retrieve
it.
